Truth be told, it was our tour guide's (second) least favorite, so it really wasn't even on the itinerary. What a fun surprise and excellent experience it turned out to be. We arrived without reservations but were fortunate to have been greeted and quickly seated by our absolutely engaging host, Julius. He was perfect for our group because he was knowledgeable for those that had all the questions and entertaining for those of us who were just enjoying the experience. I was with industry folk who speak the language and technical jargon, but I just know if I like the wines or not... and I enjoyed Ektimo's wines overall. To the end I have a (shared) case of Pinot Noir futures coming next month as well as a couple bottles purchased for Thanksgiving. Casual, outside patio was perfect for this lovely NorCal weekend. And do you know who purchased the other half of that shared case? Yes, indeed...our guide! Ektimo will definitely be on our itinerary going forward.

And the ambiance was inviting and good energy was in the room! There had to be 6 wineries there today and it was a good friendly environment for everyone!! I tried most of the wines and there are good wines being made everywhere I often say this and it's true! The Mad Marvus winery and Cidery was who I started with! And all of her juice is Organic and made with no SO2 which is a probiem because the no sulfur idea is not good and in general causes funky flavors all through the line up! And then I went over to ONWARD WINES - and these were very good and delicious on the whole then I took in a break outside in the heat but covered outside area. Then back inside to start again with SCHEMA WINES - it's her first release and she makes 2 wines, the first being an Aligote white wine much like the Aligote's of Burgundy France, as she described it like a cross between Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc and she also makes a very clean tasting Cab Franc. Nice Raspberry flavor juice. And then after that I went to TANSY WINERY, a nice but unknowlegable girl was working at the table she was sweet enough to get by the lack of knowledge and they were all Italian varietals and very good. Then I went to try the wines at the Grenachista which were overall delicious wines. Then another break and then I did the eponymous winery, the Two Sheperds Winery and most of what they're producing was great and delicious!! All in all I had a great time and experience talking to the winemakers and tasting through their wines!!

The wine was delicious, Susan (who take care of us) was amazing, and the outdoor setting was very pleasant. They were kid-friendly (and have chickens!), which we appreciated. All the wines we tasted were great - they specialize in reds. Our favorites were the Pinot Noir, Luminous, and Syrah. Susan was wonderful. She was warm, friendly, and knowledgeable. She is also great with children, and made my 3 year old feel very welcome! Out tasting took place outdoors, and the setting was casual, rustic, and quite pleasant. The chicken coop on the property was a big hit with my daughter (she loved feeding them corn!). We had a lovely tasting here (we took home 6 bottles of our favorite wines), and look forward to returning!

I recommend this winery only for those who want to drink real natural wine made the same way as 120…read moreyears ago. However, if you prefer Napa Valley or commercial wines, it's better not to visit. The taste is completely different from modern wines. This is probably what the original taste of wine was like. As the name suggests, it has an "Old World" flavor. If you like Georgian wine, the original natural wine, you should definitely visit.

About 4 months or so ago I ran across this wineries name in an email I had received. I checked out…read moretheir website and liked what I read so I then check to see if they had a Yelp page, which they didn't so I quickly created a page and then bookmarked it as I wanted to visit this tasting room on my annual day after Thanksgiving yearly wine tasting with my friend (this year it was postponed by one day but still fun none the less!). Since this seemed like a small winery, I was definitely interested in tasting their wines. I like small wineries, not the big commercial conglomerates, because to me after a while the large wineries tend to be more commercialized and all about the dollar rather than perfecting the taste of the wines, trying to find that right balance. On 11/26/22 I drove us to William Henry Wineworks to start our tasting. There's ample parking outside, a few tables/chairs in front for outdoor tasting and inside there are several options for your seated tasting from table/chairs, a couch to barstools at the bar. There is also a television set and a record player (yes you heard me correctly, record player as in vinyl albums) so you can pick all types of music to listen to while you are tasting. We were greeted by Mark Ray, owner and winemaker who is originally from South Carolina. Marks wife, Melissa, does the sales & marketing for the company. They actually named the winery after their 2 sons, William & Henry. Mark went over the various tasting options that he had to offer and we decided to let him be our guide! We started with a 2016 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay called Melissa Kelly, named after his wife. My friend and I liked it so much we each bought a bottle. Actually, I bought 2 bottles as one was for my daughter. From there Mark took our palates on a world wind tour of their fabulous wines! We tasted in the following order: 2021 Grenache, Dry Creek Valley, Emmitt-Scorsone Estate 2021 Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley, Balletto Vineyards 2021 Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley, La Vista Vineyards 2018 Perception Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley, Bernie Orsi Vineyards 2012 Perception Pinot Noir Charlatan, Russian River Valley, Pinot Noir 2012 Zinfandel, Russian River Valley, Collins Vineyards, Old Vine (1934) Though, for me, it would be hard to choose a favorite besides the Chardonnay, I'd have to say I really enjoyed the Grenache as it was a lighter body Grenache. I really liked the 2018 Perception Pinot Noir over the 2012 Perception. And nothing can beat that Old Vine Zin! But they were all very good! I ended up getting a bottle of the Grenache to go along with the Chardonnay that I got and my friend purchase a mix of 4 bottles. This is definitely a tasting room that I will take out of town friends & family as well as good friends that love to taste wines! Who knows, I might be persuaded to cancel my current wine club and join theirs! Mark also mentioned that they were going to adding charcuterie and cheese plates in the future, which will pair splendidly with their wines! Expect your offerings to be on the more expensive side: $100 per bottle. The experience starts with a booking and quickly followed up by a phone call, which your concierge learns a bit more about your specific taste and determines to build a portfolio that is geared towards it. When you finally make it to the property, which looks like a house, you're greeted by a set of already poured wines. At which point your concierge walks you through the offerings. For those that don't know, the Spire collection is a curated set of small batch offerings from select vinters coordinated by the Jackson family (of Kendall-Jackson fame and largest producers in the region). The offerings provided were from all over over the region: Knight's Valley, Anderson Valley (near Mendocino), of course Alexander Valley, and even as far away as Italy and Australia. Honestly, it wasn't the price point of the wines themselves that warranted the more mediocre review. It was the offerings themselves, which by all means are extremely fine. But nothing I had was sufficiently exceptional that I felt compelled to buy, especially at the higher price point. Nor did I feel like I got to experience the best that Alexander Valley got to offer, which was the point of my driving out there. I'd have preferred a much more local experience but maybe that was a miscommunication on my part. I ended up waking away with a great Can Franc from Tuscany, I wish it was something from Alexander Valley.

A nice compromise between the old style Sonoma Chardonnays which were fruity, sweet and crisp - with a more modern clean tasting Chardonnay. Grade: B+/A- 2012 Vineyard Select Rose of Petit Sirah "Heritage Block" ($20/btl). This was surprise #1 of the day. I don't normally like Rose wines, but this rose of Petit Sirah was pretty delicious. Nice balances and flavors, and tastes good with a picnic on a hot summer day. Grade: B+ 2008 Vineyard Select Merlot "Andre's Block" ($25/btl). Tasted like your typical merlot, very fruity and soft tasting. Cherry undertones. I was hoping to like this wine a bit more, as they had huge discounts ranging from 10% - 50% off of your purchases, depending on quantity purchases. Grade: B. 2011 Vineyard Select Syrah "Marion's Block" ($25/btl). I'm particularly a fan of Syrahs from the Alexander Valley / Chalk Hill region. This Syrah was nice bodied and full. The flavors were sharp (which I like) and generous with cherry overtones. Grade: A- 2009 Vineyard Select Cabernet Sauvignon "Wally's Block" ($30/btl). KAPOW! This wine had so much flavor and depth, it was like a flavor punch to the mouth! WOW! Tons of dry fruit flavors with a dark cherry body. Amazing! Grade: A 2008 "Staten Family Reserve" Cabernet Sauvignon ($40/btl). Another delicious Cab from this winery. Again, very full of flavors, but I found this a bit more mellow than the Wally's Block. Again, tons of dry fruit flavors and spice, with dark and heavy overtones to the back of the tongue. This drink was what converted me to be a fan of this winery! Grade: A+ 2009 "Staten Family Reserve" Petite Sirah Vintage Port ($50/btl). This port had a HUGE body with sweet cherry and dried fruit flavors. They served this port with a piece of dark chocolate. Both worked AMAZINGLY well together and it put an instant smile on my face! Grade: A+ I also got a bottle of their Chocolate Port Sauce ($18.95) to drizzle over ice cream or to make milk shakes. If it tastes anything like the wines or port that I tasted, I'm in for a GOOD treat! Special kudos go out to tasting room manager & Director of Sales and Marketing - Jason R. He and his staff, Matthew and Josh, did an AMAZING job with explaining the wines and highlighting the features of their products. They even offered to give us a special walking-tour of their vineyards. This place was very busy as there were many groups of people who visited the winery. First class service and professionalism throughout our visit. We walked away with 2 cases of these delicious wines! We had a 1+hr picnic on the grounds. We took a brief tour of the vineyards and took photos with the vines planted in 1894. What else could we have asked for?! AMAZING! I was so happy when I left this winery, I could have kissed my grandma! Special note: This winery has several picnic tables, which make for a super fun visit! We were greeted at the door by someone who was pouring a chardonnay & rosé. We had just come from another tasting room where the chardonnay didn't even taste like a chardonnay. Jigars chardonnay was very buttery & pleasing to the palette. I could've drank this all day! The rosé was light & fruity and is the perfect summer wine! We then had the option of going into the tasting room and trying the wines being poured or into another room to try their library wines - we opted for the library wines. Ever wine that was poured was to die for! The pinot noir, syrah, Cabernet, Zinfandel ask were phenomenal! I could kick myself for not buying a bottle or two of the rosé and chardonnay. Good reason to go back again! Friendly & knowledgeable tasting room staff, great location, quaint tasting room, phenomenal wines and good prices.

Ever since trying Radio's wines at Hazel in Occidental many years ago, we've been huge fans ever…read moresince. Without a public tasting room we rely on restaurants carrying their wines, online sales or one of their open houses, usually hosted twice a year, for our Radio-Coteau cravings. During their most recent open house (sign up for announcements on their website) we sampled some of their latest offerings including Chardonnay, Syrah, and of course their amazingly delicious Pinot Noir's. La Neblina (our favorite) was the first Pinot we tried from Radio and have loved each vintage. While their latest releases are young, we usually just commit to a couple bottles of each, one to drink now and another to lay down for a while. We're not collectors of wine, were drinkers of wine so a year is about a long as we let anything lay about. Radio also offers a lesser priced wine by the brand County Line. We bought a case of their County Line 2016 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir as our "Tuesday night" wine. At $28 a bottle, this is a well priced and approachable wine, but don't take my word for it, go get some. Just head to the County Line website, sign up for an account and order away.

The winery is not anything like other wineries I have been to. The set-up is more like a warehouse, standing room only. Everyone there was casually dressed and not pretentious like some other wineries I've been to. The open house allowed us to roam around and sample the many wine varietals they were pouring that day. We tried Albariño, Chardonnay, Pinot, Zinfandel and Syrah. There was also a few tables full of delicious fresh sliced bread to eat with our wines. One bread that had cheese and shiitake mushrooms in it was so good, we had to ask one of the workers where it was from. I really enjoyed the wines and definitely didn't leave empty-handed. I spent more than I expected but got some nice bottles for upcoming holiday get-togethers.
