The front desk staff greeted me warmly, and then the dental hygienist was extremely patient and was the most thorough and gentle cleaning I've ever had! I was coming into the office with emotional baggage from my last dental experience with a large chain dental office that misdiagnosed me with a gum disease just to make money off of me. I was on guard and feeling taken advantage of by that previous experience, so I was extra skeptical of this new dentistry. Honestly that isn't even my personality, but I asked a lot of questions, which he patiently and thoroughly responded to each one, with no problem. Never did he rush me along and give me the sense that I was just a number on their factory line and he didn't have time to talk me thru things. That helped me relax and I ultimately shared about my previous experience and he deeply empathized. Then throughout my appointment he made sure to tell me what he was doing at every step to help ease my nerves. Then the doctor came in and examined my teeth and said my mouth was pretty boring, in a good way! LOL! Meaning I had no issues and my teeth and gums were in good shape! He was very personable and also totally relaxed and took the time to just chat and ask questions to get to know me. That relational piece is really key for me in choosing who o want to go to for my overall health and well being. Oral health is a critical part of this! They have never taken advantage of us and have only done work when it's the right move. They aren't running a business, they are running a healthcare office! Efficient and empathetic (hint, hint, I've been paying for all of my cavities from my unsupervised childhood) service and caring interactions - that's what comes to mind for me. He had created a crown in his office for my lower molar. That crown had a sharp edge on the inside face which was very painful for my tongue. I told him about this for nearly 3 years and asked him to help. When I finally insisted that he had to either remove the sharp burr or replace the crown he simply stood there and waited for me to leave. I'm a doctor working in the same office building we were in for over 5 years and had referred patients to Dr Stein. I no longer refer patients to him. I see his behavior as a clear breach of medical ethics.
