Filled with lentils with a little spicy kick. Accompanied with a diced hot pepper relish, which was very good. We enjoyed the Awaze tips, beef tips sautéed in a spicy sauce. The vegetarian platter also was good. A couple of the items were less impressive than the others (I really liked the greens and green beans), but overall a solid platter. It is a wonderful gem, hidden away in a strip center with authentic Ethiopian food. Their lentil samosas are to die for perfectly crispy with a great dipping sauce. We ate our first batch and had to order a second one. We ordered the vegetable sampler large and the lamp stew. Everything was perfectly flavor, delicious and savory. The vegetables were wonderful. I love the incense, the aroma of this restaurant as soon as I walked in it hit me, it felt like I was walking into someone's home. Sometimes I question the validity of Yelp. Years ago, my wife and I ate at an Ethiopian restaurant and we had good memories of it. This, however, was completely different. First, off, we went in for an early dinner and almost walked out as the place is a dive. But we've had some good experiences in places that were a bit run down, and Yelp gave it 4.6 stars! How bad could it be? Maybe it was a pearl in an Oyster--an undiscovered treasure tucked away in the corner of nowhere. The waitress was not the brightest bulb in the pantry. We explained we'd never been there before and she asked if we wanted a menu, so, having never been there, we said yes. She brought the menus and poured the water and two things sprang to mind. First, ask for the pitcher because it's the only water you're going to get and, two, you might want some Lysol because the menus were a bit sticky and one seemed to have a cigarette burn in the middle. As for the food, I asked my wife if she wanted the sambusas as an appetizer, and she said no, so we said we'd pass. Well guess what she she brought out. An order of sambusas! Well, to hell with it. We decided to keep them. Big mistake. The insides were dry and tasteless and they look re-fried. The platter we ordered was okay. The bread was like rubber, but it's probably the way Ethiopian bread is, so that's probably on us. An acquired taste, like grits. It was 3 p.m. and we were the only ones in the place, and that includes the waitress. We wondered if she also was the cook! Finally, ten minutes after we left, my wife and I developed killer headaches that lasted several hours. That doesn't happen, so they probably used MSG. Lots of it. Bottom line, you've been warned. My wife has been all over the world. I haven't. But she said the service was some of the worst she's seen. We should have left when we walked in. If you decide to visit this place anyway, make sure you speak loud and don't leave any room for doubt. We'll never go again. read more

Wonderful spot to have dinner! We came later in the evening hoping for excellent Ethiopian food and had all expectations exceeded. The service was great and made sure we had enough injera for our various dishes. We had the special lega beef tibs (super yummy!), raw kitfo (brother's favorite - loved it), sega key wot (perfectly spiced), and a veggie platter. I lived in Egypt in the early years of my marriage and my husband and I hired an Ethiopian refugee to cook traditional Ethiopian vegetarian food for us. I hadn't eaten Ethiopian food before and then and her cooking was amazing. I've judged every Ethiopian restaurant by her standard, which is hard to beat! Ethiopis meets and often exceeds that standard. The Njera is consistently fresh and well textured, the vegetarian stews are flavorful and generous, and the lentil sambusas are fabulous, even when ordered for delivery. Ethiopis was an amazing dining experience. We were initially welcomed in at the door and the host took our drinks orders followed the food orders. I had the awaze tibs while the wife and daughter had the large vegetarian sampler. I ordered the awaze tibs because it said it was spicy. I made sure to verify it would be the spicy. The host put in the request to make it spicy. It still came out with great flavor but I needed to put on another tablespoon of awaze for it to get to my spice level. We ordered the asa gulash, awaze tibs, lamb stew, and shiro. All four dishes were perfect. The awaze tibs were spicy and tender, the lamb stew was flavorful and tender, the shiro was seasoned so well. And, my favorite, the asa gulash was everything I wanted it to be. This Ethiopian restaurant is a wonderful little surprise in Rockville. My daughter and I went on a Tuesday evening and the restaurant was unpopulated. I'm surprised because the quality of the food is excellent. I had the lamb and a garbanzo, bean, special dish, and my daughter had a vegetarian platter. Both were exceptional. I think this restaurant would do better in a different location, because it's hidden on Rockville Pike. Every time I crave Ethiopian food in Rockville, I go to Ingera Rocks. Their spicy beef tibs are so flavorful and I love when the residual sauce drenches the injera lined along the bottom of the takeout box. In addition, they always give some extra injera on the side which I like to rip up piece by piece to make mini hand wraps. Aside from their entrees, I want to shoutout their all delicious veggie sides. I love eating meat but they could make a meatless Monday so easy with their veggie platter (a mixed selection of 3 sides for the medium platter and 5 for the large platter). Of their veggie sides, my favorite is their green bean with carrot stir fry. I have no idea how they get their green beans to such an amazing stirfry texture while retaining a natural sweetness. I've had better conversations with vending machines. The server looked like I ruined their day just by existing. Absolutely wonderful and we'll be coming back. It's a very intimate and cozy space. Decorated with minimalist Ethiopian touches which give the restaurant a modern feel. Our server was a one woman show. She was sweet, courteous, and so accommodating. I inquired about non soda and alcoholic options (as they have wine, beer, and sodas listed on the menu) and she let me know that none were available. But..... she immediately offered to brew some tea for iced tea. And once delivered, it had delicious hints of clover and cinnamon. The dishes are very traditional and delectable. I had ordered from here before and the food was great! This time around after their renovation, I will not be coming back. Firstly, the food became insanely spicy and was not the pleasantly spiced food from before. I eat a lot of Ethiopian in DC and this does not at all taste right. I ordered the large vegetarian sampler and all of them were insanely spicy including the bean and carrot which is supposed to have a sweet profile. I ended up scraping out the worst offender which was the green lentils that genuinely tasted there was horseradish mixed in. The red lentil stew had too much cinnamon. I could handle the yellow lentils and beets which were the only ones that tasted normal but literally what the heck??? I'm not sure if this was an off day but this was disappointing. So happy to see Ingera Rock open up on this side of the beltway. I no longer have to venture into DC or head to downtown Silver Spring for some legit Ethiopian cuisine! Placing an order over the phone was super easy and my order was ready within minutes after I arrived. When I walked into Ingera Rock, I could smell my beef tibs cooking. It smelled so good in there that I knew my food would come packed with flavor. Service was super friendly and everyone working (3 individuals) were following the appropriate safety protocols put in place during the pandemic. I liked how hand sanitizer was available at the counter so you could use it after paying for your order. For dinner, we ordered the key wot and grilled beef tibs. Although both were good, I definitely enjoyed the beef tibs more. The beef in the key wot was seasoned well and spicier than I thought it would be. Not a bad thing though as I like spicy food! The beef tibs were cooked well, and again was seasoned well. I enjoyed the addition of the tomatoes, jalepenos, and onions to the dish. In terms of the vegetable side dishes, we tried the collard greens ,cabbage, and Azifa (letil salad). My favorite of the three was the collard greens. Luckily I got two orders of this! With each entrée, we received two pieces of injera, as well as some spicy sauce and tomato salad. Although you get the injera with your meal, don't forget to eat the injera that your meat sits on. This is one of my favorite parts of the dish since it soaks in all the flavor from the meat! Parking is available in front of the restaurant and is easy to find. Ingera Rock is located right next door to Island Pride and within walking distance of York Castle Tropical Ice Cream and Cameron's Seafood. It was our first time eating here and having Ethiopian food in Maryland. We had an easy ordering experience over the phone and did curbside pickup. The person who took our order was very patient and explained the different options to us. He came out with full PPE and put the food in our trunk with a positive attitude. The food smelled delicious and the aroma filled our car. When we got home, we saw that it was carefully packed and nothing had leaked. Both entrees were tasty and flavorful- not something I could make at home. Eating with our hands was a fun and unique experience too. The medium vegetarian sampler was warm and tasty, a fun combination of flavors and textures. My favorites were the collard greens and green beans with carrots. They helped cool off the spice! The doro wot (chiken stew) had chicken drumsticks that fell off the bone and a hard boiled egg. Really flavorful and the spicy oil reminded me of the chili oil in Sichuan food. Each of the entrees came with a side salad of tomatoes, onions and jalapeños, as well as two warm ingera rolls. We were two hungry people and still had about 1/3 of the veggie sampler and 1 ingera roll leftover, so the portions are generous. Highly recommend if you want to have a unique and tasty eating experience that is different than the usual takeout options. It was also easy to order and ready in 15 min. I feel like all the 5* reviews in Yelp and google were definetly fake. We went there on a weekday and there was no one there except for one table that was done with their meal. The service is SLOW and only one kid who was the host and waiter. All we asked was for the vegetarian sampler plate and some sambusa. It took them at least 30 minutes to get the meal out. This stuff is precooked because it's never hot from the stove, and there were no other customers. So I don't understand the wait. We had to ask multiple times for the appetizer coz the "host" clearly forgot. The bathrooms were stinky. And the interiors in general was just tacky. You could see they DIYd the walls and it just looked shabby. Honestly I would go back to Sheeba a little further..has better service and same food. The food wasn't cheaper either. read more

We've had doordash deliver for them a number of times. This last time, the food was sorely lacking. There was almost no heat in the food unless I hit a jalapeno. The flavor was short on spice too in the vegetable platter. The durek, beef stew, had leathery meat and barely recognizable as Ethiopian. I don't know what happened to them, maybe too many gringos saying it was too hot, but this was really bland. Some restaurants do heat scales, even up to eight levels three would do and a heavier hand on the spices would be appreciated. read more

It came with a variety of options - cabbage, beets, lentils - and was absolutely delicious. I like that you get what you get, but next time I might ask for some of my favorites (the yellow lentils and the cabbage were divine). I personally will ask for the injera on the side instead of served underneath the dishes, but that's just my personal preference! I also appreciated it coming with a few extra injera, which helped soothe my mildly burning mouth (in a good way). You can't beat the price, either. Their grilled beef tibs were unfortunately very chewy and stiff. It was tough to eat the whole thing. Most importantly, their Ingera was typical. I ordered extra Ingera with my meal but had to go back because they only gave me the extra I ordered and not what the meal also came with.
