It was ~$5 more to order online through their website, so I called to place an order-- these hidden convenience fees, man, I'm not about it. Beef kaey- slow simmered all day type vibe. Beef is tender and seasoning is delicious. Savory saucy. Beef tibbs- sautéed with onions, tomatoes, and jalapeños. I got awaze and it's a Smokey spicy sauce that comes on the side. I didn't end up using it. I asked for it spicy - had the slightest kick. Split peas- mild flavor in comparison to both beef. You can taste the garlic and ginger. This wasn't my favorite but it was good in between bites of beef to change up the taste and texture. Peas weren't hard but also not mushy- Red lentils miser watt- I love the lentils here. My friend and I ordered through DoorDash and the food arrived quite late. My friend ordered the Cubed Beef Tibs Firfir (no picture) with a side of rice for his meal and he found it quite spicy! The meat was also very tough to chew through. it was extremely overcooked! I ordered the Lamb Kaey with a side of Injera (Flat Bread) for dipping and wrapping. I was very surprised to learn that the lamb still had bones in it!! I was not happy with that at all! I also ordered a side of Sambusa (no picture) which shows a picture of four Sambusas in the picture on DoorDash, however, don't be fooled... It only is served with one of them! My friend could never finish his meal and ended up throwing it away. I felt bad for him. Then again, I couldn't finish my meal either, and I did not want mine at all, so he ended up taking it with him, however, he didn't end up taking the flat bread so that went into the trash as well. I ordered the vegetarian and meat combo of 6 for 2 ($36). You can choose any combination of 6 from the menu (some exclusions apply). I went with the lamb kaey, beef kaey, chicken, split pea, red lentil, and collard greens. Chicken and lentils were our favorite! Everything tasted good but I wish the spreads were a little more flavorful. I also wish the food came out hotter. All things considered this was a solid 4/5 place. This restaurant kind of had me confused for a bit because it is a combination of a Mexican restaurant and an Ethiopian restaurant. The restaurant looks like a Mexican restaurant. There was definitely a Hispanic crowd when we entered, which had me think I was at the wrong restaurant. However, we were there for the Ethiopian food. We got the vegetarian platter for 2. The difference between this place and other places is that they would put injera bread on the plate and then place each of the food on top. Also it is not as flavorful as other restaurants. The gluten free injera was not as fresh either. The workers were very nice. I love Ethiopian food and I was pleased to find a place that makes great shiro. The women running the place were lovely to talk to and they even gave me a shiro sampler. The injera is fresh and nicely sour. The shiro was flavorful and smooth, I gobbled it up. I had several other vegetarian dishes that were also wonderful, including the spicy lentils. It's a very small place casual place but the Ethiopian food here is authentic and flavorful. We ordered the combination platter of 6. We were able to pick 4 meats and 2 veggies. We usually order cubed beef tibbs, and the choose six sides selection. The six sides we have tried are in general, cubed lamb tibbs, beef kaey, chicken doro alicha, split pea (Split pea in Turmeric sauce with fresh garlic, ginger, basil, and selected herbs and spices), lentils, and mitten shiro (chickpeas). I absolutely love the split pea and the cubed beef tibbs. The beef is tender and the split peas are very flavorful. My husband also enjoys the lamb tibbs and beef kaey, but they are on the spicer side. Every side we've tried is delicious, but some are spicer than others. We have only done takeout, and every time it is always packaged nicely and ready to go for pickup. The injera is fresh and tasteful with all the sides. What a little gem! Manna Bistro & Bakery is a small Ethiopian bakery that also offers Mexican entrees, located in the Centreville Square Shopping Center. I had a huge hankering for sambusas, so I decided to check this place out while I was in the area. I ordered 8, which were made-to-order! It took about 20 minutes or so, which I didn't mind. The sambusas were SO DELICIOUS! They were the usual large sized, about the palm of your hand, with a thin flaky super crispy crust, filled with a generous portions of lentils, onions, ginger, and their house spices. Honestly, I could have ordered more and just eat these like chips! Because they were literally right out of the oil, they were super piping hot and SO crispy! No need for any sauces. The staff here were very welcoming, friendly, and very sweet! There is a dining area, but locals seem to call ahead and do pick-up orders. I'd love to return to try out the rest of their menu, especially their Ethiopian entrees. First time here - very authentic and great flavors. For an appetizer, I had the Sinig (jalapeño stuffed with tomatoes and onions) - very hot but great flavor. My entree was their tostadas - 3 crispy tortillas with refried beans. My wife had the beef kaey - it was amazing!!! I loved it so much I ate half of it. The injera was authentic Ethiopian. We got: -Sambussa (think samosa but lentil filled--yum!) -Awaze Tibbs (such delicious chunks of beef, marinated an an aromatic sauce with jalapeños) -vegetarian combo for two. 5 veggies--generous portions! After serious deliberation, I decided my absolute favorite is the red lentil, followed up by the carrots and green beans, and then the cabbage. For some reason, the yellow lentils and collards don't do it for me as much) -more injera than you can imagine! I'm going to freeze some for later. I was able to get dinner for two, lunch for two, and there's still a tiny bit left over. Everything was ready right in time. Happy to see this place is still doing well. read more

So I remembered when this place first opened years ago and I was not a fan at first but Im really glad I tried it again recently! We got carry out for the following: Minchet Abish Kaey (ground beef) - loved the flavor of this dish, floral but savory Split Pea - Sweet, light and mild Red Lentil - deeper more savory flavor Collared greens - personally not my favorite but my husband loved it. I didnt prefer the Collared greens to be chopped up so finely and they were not as flavorful compared to the other dishes in my opinion. And when I saw they served Mexican food and Ethiopian food, I assumed they weren't good at either. Having only tried the Ethiopian food here, I recommend it. If going will a small group or hungry partner I recommend getting a meat dish and the vegetarian combo platter - the one person portion is still a lot and you get to try a variety of veggies! Most of the dishes are spicy (which I love!) But there are options that aren't spicy, be sure to ask! I've only ever seen one lady work the two times I've gone, not sure how many cooks there are but be prepared to wait. It's not fast food. But the lady is kind and helpful. What to expect? The spices and seasoning were amazing. Red and yellow lentils over rice were the perfect comfort food. My boyfriend and I had so much fun enjoying the food! I tend to be picky, but since going vegan I've "opened my horizons" to new flavors and textures like never before. I did not sit down to eat so this review is only for the takeout injera (ethiopian thin, spongey bread) I was looking for injera and the place near my house is closed on Sundays so I ventured to Centreville to pick some up from Manna. The injera was large and plentiful, stacked on shelves in a corner of the restaurant. They also sold various lentils and canned beans. I didn't see berbere (ethiopian red spice) on the shelves so I asked the cashier and she poured some into a container in the back and sold it to me by weight. She was very friendly and helpful. For enough injera to feed 5-6 ppl and also a small container of berbere, I paid only $10. I did think, however, that the lentils were overpriced - it was cheaper to buy them from your local Hmart or Lotte. The injera was tasty and fresh. Perfect texture but I prefer the flavor to be more pronounced (more sour). read more
