Delicious Ethiopian food. I've been here a few times. Service is good; staff is friendly. The woman taking orders will help you order if you ask. Ordered the beef kaey, beef tibbs, red lentils (favorite), and split peas over the phone. It was ~$5 more to order online through their website, so I called to place an order-- these hidden convenience fees, man, I'm not about it. Beef kaey- slow simmered all day type vibe. Beef is tender and seasoning is delicious. Savory saucy. Beef tibbs- sautéed with onions, tomatoes, and jalapeños. I got awaze and it's a Smokey spicy sauce that comes on the side. I didn't end up using it. I asked for it spicy - had the slightest kick. Split peas- mild flavor in comparison to both beef. You can taste the garlic and ginger. This wasn't my favorite but it was good in between bites of beef to change up the taste and texture. Peas weren't hard but also not mushy- Red lentils miser watt- I love the lentils here. Super flavorful. Savory and spice forward. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance is casual.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They also sell Ethiopian grocery items, like peas etc. The menu hasn't been changed and prices have not gone up.

Grateful for this Ethiopian spot, which also sells Mexican food. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The Spanish music is a little confusing, but it seems like they get a lot of Spanish customers.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The owner is extremely patient and kind as she answers all of my friends' questions when ordering. We had a group of 6 and ordered a mix of vegetarian and meat combos. We had a feast! Everything was solid.

    19. Lamb Kaey - Watch out! Since this has bones in it, and you might be surprised!

My friend and I ordered through DoorDash and the food arrived quite late. My friend ordered the Cubed Beef Tibs Firfir (no picture) with a side of rice for his meal and he found it quite spicy! The meat was also very tough to chew through. it was extremely overcooked! I ordered the Lamb Kaey with a side of Injera (Flat Bread) for dipping and wrapping. I was very surprised to learn that the lamb still had bones in it!! I was not happy with that at all! I also ordered a side of Sambusa (no picture) which shows a picture of four Sambusas in the picture on DoorDash, however, don't be fooled... It only is served with one of them! My friend could never finish his meal and ended up throwing it away. I felt bad for him. Then again, I couldn't finish my meal either, and I did not want mine at all, so he ended up taking it with him, however, he didn't end up taking the flat bread so that went into the trash as well. Needless to say, we will never ever be ordering from here again and it's a shame.

Vegetarian and Meat Combo of 6 for 2

This is a very unique restaurant that serves both Ethiopian and Spanish cuisine. I came here for the Ethiopian food and was confused if I was in the right spot when I walked in! I ordered the vegetarian and meat combo of 6 for 2 ($36). You can choose any combination of 6 from the menu (some exclusions apply). I went with the lamb kaey, beef kaey, chicken, split pea, red lentil, and collard greens. Chicken and lentils were our favorite! Everything tasted good but I wish the spreads were a little more flavorful. I also wish the food came out hotter. All things considered this was a solid 4/5 place. The food took 10-15 minutes to come out. A little bit of a wait but not bad. Our server was nice and was able to provide helpful recommendations on the menu.

This restaurant kind of had me confused for a bit because it is a combination of a Mexican restaurant and an Ethiopian restaurant. The restaurant looks like a Mexican restaurant. There was definitely a Hispanic crowd when we entered, which had me think I was at the wrong restaurant. However, we were there for the Ethiopian food. We got the vegetarian platter for 2. The difference between this place and other places is that they would put injera bread on the plate and then place each of the food on top. Also it is not as flavorful as other restaurants. The gluten free injera was not as fresh either. The workers were very nice. The food took a while for it to come out and they forgot to bring out the gluten free injera bread so we had to wait for that.

Manna bistro is a locally owned business and came highly recommended. Located in a plaza, there's plenty of parking. It's a very small place casual place but the Ethiopian food here is authentic and flavorful. We ordered the combination platter of 6. We were able to pick 4 meats and 2 veggies. The spongy injera was soft and tasted similar to sourdough. The assortment of meat/veggies were all packed with flavor. The spicy beef was my fav meat dish although it wasn't very spicy at all. Prices are very reasonable and the staff was friendly.

When I walked in, I thought I might be in the wrong place. Turns out they serve Mexican as well as Ethiopian food! Ordered quickly, and my carryout was ready in less than 10 minutes. Ordered the vegetarian platter and chicken doro wat. It came with plenty of injera and was well packaged to prevent spilling. The miser (red lentils) was my favorite! Chicken a little dry. Made three meals our of two dishes. Will be back!

Chicken Tibs, Spanish rice, lentils, Cubed Lamb Tibbs, and red lentils

My wife digs this place, which serves both Ethiopian and Latino food - we prefer the Ethiopian. This was my first time finding an Ethiopian dish I like, in this case Chicken Tibb (with Spanish rice, because I hate the sponge bread stuff). My wife enjoyed the chicken and the bread, plus some lentils, Cubed Lamb Tibbs, and red lentils. The chicken tacos I got as a backup option were actually my least fave thing.

I've only tried carryout from Manna once, but that's all it took to win a top rating from me. The gomen wat (collards) dish is just right--so flavorful with just a bit of spice. And everything else in the vegetarian combo platter (messer, kik, atakilt, and fosolia) was delicious. My friend and I ordered through GrubHub and got fast delivery with no problems. I would definitely order from Manna Bistro again!

Ambiance is casual. It's a small restaurant at a strip mall (the restaurant's capacity is 85 people). This place always has customers but at peak dining times, there's a wait out the door- yes, even during summer sometimes, but especially when it's cold or raining. Their pho is spectacular, as is their vermicelli bowls, spring and summer rolls. Banh xeo is mid-- there's a specific spice that throws it off (maybe turmeric). I stopped by here recently and noticed they have new menus. Quick skim: pho prices haven't changed, but certain menu items have gone up about $1. If you're looking for a sweet treat after lunch, there's a Sweet Frog 2 doors down, Okaeri next door (Japanese soufflé pancakes and lattes), Paris Baguette a few yards away. There's plenty of parking but you might have to park a few yards away when it's busy.

The meat portion was generous, which I appreciated. We also ordered the cha gio, but it wasn't worth it in my opinion. It was pretty underwhelming and not something I'd order again. Service was fine, and while our table was slightly sticky, it wasn't a huge issue or anything that affected the meal. Overall, it's a solid spot if you're craving a decent bowl of pho, but there wasn't anything that really stood out enough to make me eager to return.

We started our meal with the vegetable Sambusa. The wrapper was perfectly crispy, not greasy and, while flaky, didn't fall apart. The dipping sauce that accompanied was a perfect spicy complement to the lentil filling. A great way to get your tastebuds ready for the main event! For our entree, we went with the Special Combo for two with beef and chicken/doro wot. We allowed our helpful waiter to select the vegetables, and he did a great job. We enjoyed the yellow peas, spicy lentils, cabbage, spinach, scooping it all up with the sour injera bread. The service is excellent and the music makes the meal complete! We will be back soon to try more of the menu. This restaurant is a Herndon gem. I would give six stars if I could. Don't be stupid, like us, and wait too long to try it!! Go now!

When we finally found ourselves in the area, I was excited to see if it lived up to the hype. We ordered the veggie combo, and it was flavorful and satisfying. What really made this place stand out, though, was the customer service. We ordered takeout, and after getting home about 40 minutes later, we realized part of our order was wrong. I called expecting the usual response--either that I should've checked the bag before leaving or that I'd need to drive back for a replacement. Instead, I got a genuine apology and an offer for a full refund. Since we still had food to eat, I didn't feel right accepting it. They insisted on making it up to us the next time we were in the area. True to their word, on our next visit they treated us to the same veggie combo on the house. You don't see that level of follow-through very often, and it really left an impression. That's how you earn loyal customers. Big shoutout to Emmanuel for taking such great care of us. We're looking forward to coming back.
