You don't have to be a serious "birder" (I'm not) to enjoy David's events. This would be a great introduction for children or teenagers. If you don't see a tour on David's website that fits your schedule, contact him. David added two tours to his schedule just for us. And because others signed up once the new tours were posted, we did not have to pay the private tour rate. David took care of everything, providing binoculars, driving us to and from the hiking spot (which gave us a much appreciated chance to talk with him and learn about the area), and, for the kayaking trip, David brought the kayaks in and out. If you prefer a canoe, just ask for one. For what David provides, these tours are very reasonably priced. This would be ideal for visiting friends and family. My outings with David were by far the two most interesting things I did this summer!

So many cool things about that experience... 1) I used a chainsaw for the first time and now I want to cut down all the trees! 2) We put something that wouldn't fit in our car in our relatively new truck bed... it was sooooo big! 3) While I was there, I bought several jars of their honey (again)! They have completely embraced the "hot honey" trend and are making some amazing honeys that are perfect for a nice "drizzle" on pizza, a Christmas ham or even as a sweetener in your green beans or spaghetti sauce! If you have any climbing, repelling, spelunking, or exploring experience, this is a "walk in the park" for you. No experience is needed and they take care of everything. This is the place to find out what's what in Seymour and Jackson County. It's located inside the…read moreformer Southern Indiana Railroad Freight House so as you might guess, there is a certain amount of railroad theme to the location. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places and inside you'll find exhibits that tell interesting stories from the history of Jackson County, some gifty souvenirs and books about Jackson County. (If you have time, venture into town to the corner of 2nd and Indianapolis Streets to see the mural of John Mellencamp.) One of the interesting stories from county history is the Reno Gang. It's a long story, but the thumbnail sketch is that the Reno Brothers were life-time criminals. After the Civil War, the Reno brothers returned home to Rockford, Indiana with counterfeiters, thieves, bounty jumpers, questionable characters and general ne'er do wells. The gang was soon pulling off numerous crimes but they reached their pinnacle October 6, 1866 when John and Simeon Reno, with gang members, boarded a train and stole somewhere between $12-18,000 from the safe. It was the first moving train robbery in the United States and it wasn't the last train robbery committed by the Reno Gang, either. Witnesses would mysteriously assume room temperature and no one was every convicted of the train robberies. In July 1868, when citizens were fed up, vigilantes stopped a train just west of town. The train was taking three gang members to the county lock-up. The vigilantes overpowered the guards and pulled the three Reno gangsters from the train. The gang members were hanged from one branch of a nearby beech tree. Five nights later, the vigilantes did the same thing to three more gang members, at the same location, from the same branch of the same beech tree. A third and final vigilante lynching happened at New Albany, Indiana after members of the Reno gang were removed from their cells and hanged in the jailhouse. One of those cells is on display outside the Visitor Center. The site of the first two lynchings became known as Hangman Crossing. The beech tree blew down in a windstorm and there is no marker at the spot, but the story of the Reno Gang lives on in Seymour. There may not be a historical marker at Hangman Crossing but when you go to the Visitor Center, you'll meet the center's watch cat. His name is Reno. Stop in and scratch him behind the ears, if he'll let you.

I first got a little taste of DCBB as part of a Yelp event last year, and when I saw that DCBB was doing a special Super Brunch tour just for Valentine's Day, I jumped on and brought my boyfriend, his sister and her boyfriend along for the ride. This special V-Day tour started at Over the 9, where we enjoyed a brunch that paired dishes by Over the 9 and Louisville's always awesome Chef Maria Bell with brews from Falls City Beer, which is made in the same facility as Over the 9. These small bites brunch courses were so fun, and I think we all fell in love with Chef Bell a little more through this event. She explained every dish, and you could tell that she was so excited to be there. And I'm a fan of beer for breakfast -- I know ... surprise, surprise. But it all worked well, as we enjoyed several Falls City creations. After brunch, we walked over to Falls City production facility to learn a bit more about how the beer is made, from the head brewer himself. This DCBB tour in particular included a change of plans. One of the stops -- I can't even remember where it was -- had to be canceled, but Keith rolled with it. And we stopped at Muth's Candy Store instead. Samples of their signature treats, including modjeskas, were waiting for all of us. This was such a fun addition on this V-Day tour, and the shop's owners chatted with the group about Muth's long history. And then we ended at Apocalypse Brew Works. The snow really started coming down when we were here, but Apocalypse was warm and the beer was flowing. If it's the end of the world -- or the middle of a snowstorm -- I'm happy to escape to Apocalypse. Everyone on the tour got another beer tasting and tour, with special welcome and walk-through by the owner. Keith is such an enthusiastic host, and I think that rubs off on the brewery and business owners because they were excited to welcome us into their businesses. Keith shuttled us around in his van and gave us pretzel necklaces and bottles of water to tide us over between stops. He also peppered the trip with historical tidbits about the places we were driving by. You can tell that he has pride for what he does and this city. If you want to learn about several breweries at once, I definitely recommend that you dip your toe into the local brew scene by way of DCBB. It will make for a one-of-a-kind day!

One of the Best Experiences I've Ever Had!…read more We recently participated in a team scavenger hunt with Pedego Electric Bikes Indy and it was an absolute blast! As someone who hadn't ridden a bike in over 20 years, I was a little nervous -- but the electric bikes were incredibly easy to maneuver and so much fun to ride! Scot and Cathy, the wonderful owners, made the entire experience smooth, welcoming, and memorable. Their kindness and passion for what they do really shines through. I'm new to Indy, so solving the clues and discovering local landmarks added an extra layer of excitement. Chatting with Scot and Cathy to see if we guessed correctly made our victories even sweeter! And of course, I can't forget the real stars of the show -- Hamilton and Schuyler, the adorable "employees of the month," who greeted us with wagging tails and made us feel right at home. I may be a little biased (our team did win, after all), but this was hands down one of the most enjoyable experiences I've had. Our boat trip probably had 12 people - give or take. The boat tour was really informative and immersive. The tour guide shares in's and outs of how the cave was found, how they expanded, and how they created the business. You can see some fish, crawfish, and bats. The tour is done in lower level lighting from the light on the boat and with the tour guides flashlight. They also have a little section to "mine" for gemstones. You can buy a few different sizes in the gift shop and that was a fun way to do while we waited for the next tour.
