So I brought my 2004 Chevy Silverado in to get the headliner replaced because mine was falling off and was quoted for 285. Dropped my truck off around 10am and got a call around 419 from a random number with no voicemail when I called back they said my truck was ready but they were closed but they could wait for me to come get it. I felt bad for being late to pick my truck so I paid before I got a chance to inspect the work. Big mistake on my part. They did a decent job on the headliner but it looks like they attached someone else's sun visors either that or they destroyed mine pretty bad....Also the stitching on the material around the visors looks pretty ugly and not finished and also now I have some horrible looking mirror that's severely damaged on my passenger side visor. (My mirror had no damage or scratches) I'm very disappointed in the quality of work and how badly they damaged my passenger side visor mirror. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND read more

This was my first experience with this shop. I had two seats that were repaired and only needed the seating surface leather replaced. Javier was great! The shop was definitely messy, but who cares if they put out a good product. Communicating with the shop was definitely a challenge. Several unanswered phone calls and no response to text messages. I was given a verbal quote for the repairs when I dropped off the seats and was charged substantially more when I picked them up. I was not given a written quote and should have demanded one prior to the work being started. My bad! I don't mind the extra cost, but it's good business to contact the customer and let them know it's going to cost more than the quoted amount and why. I told the person who "Cashed" me out that the price was quite a bit more than quoted, but they didn't seem to care :( Live and learn read more

Van Driver Seat Repair. You can not go wrong with these guys. They are the best. I had my driver side seat repaired. I told them I only needed the side of the seat repaired and I wanted it to match the rest of the chair. I have a 2008 Toyota Sienna Van and I have been going in and out of the van for the past 9 almost 10 years. I also wear jeans and I had a light blue color on the seat. They were able to clean up the seat and repair the 7-inch rip on the side of the seat. Also, the bottom of the seat on the side is cracking. They did a fantastic job. They also told me that they do work for 4 dealers in the area. One is Toyota of Carlsbad. I checked. Toyota Repair is very happy with Encinitas Custom Upholstery. read more

These guys were GREAT. I had a separation in my boat upholstery. I contacted several other shops and they all wanted to recover the entire seat which concerned me that the color may not match. I brought it to Encinitas Custom Upholstery and they said they could just re-stretch the material and re-stitch it and they did it for about 1/3 the cost. SHOCKING! Took 7 weeks to finally get my 2 chairs re upholstered. I had to bring one back 3 times to have it fixed and they are still not right. I will have to bring them somewhere else to be fixed because I have lost faith that they can do it. "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!" Very nice people - but the reupholstery was horrible. These guys are great. I don't understand what is up with the negative reviews. I have taken a number of pieces to them and they have done fine work, for a good price and they have been on time. Plus they are extremely friendly and helpful. If they lag on occasion it's probably because they are busy AND good. If you want good upholstery work done at a good price these guys are excellent. Maybe you have to wait a little bit for it but it is worth the wait. There is another upholstery shop in the area that does great work on time but THEY ARE TWICE THE PRICE. read more

I took a small chair in to be reupholstered and was told it would be ready in 2 weeks. In a month, after several unanswered voice messages, I drove by on a weekday at 3 pm (thinking they would be there) and the neighboring business told me they had just left. I looked in the window and there was my chair, exactly where I had left it, untouched. I made several more calls and was finally able to pick up my chair (still untouched). I have no idea if this company would do a good job or not, but I certainly wouldn't leave any thing there that I didn't need for a long time and I definitely wouldn't believe them when they tell you when it is going to be ready. A little informal in giving quotes/estimates, but overall very pleased. Had a large 8+ foot kitchen banquette that needed reupholstering of base and back. Javier's pricing was almost 1/2 of any other location and time to complete again almost 1/2 (one well known location quoted 3-4 weeks to complete). While it took a bit longer than original estimate, timing was still only about 1 week. Javier helped estimate fabric requirements and sourcing (again required less fabric than others). Took my Jetta to Bob Baker VW as the lumbar support had broken on the driver seat and the broken piece had begun to poke a hole through the leather on the back of the seat. They wanted nearly $1,000 dollars to put in a whole new lumbar support mechanism and to completely re-upholster the seat. Giant rip-off. I asked a friend for recommendations and they sent me to Encinitas Upholstery. The gentleman I worked with laughed at my story and told me he could repair the lumbar support and the hole for $125. There was a small bracket broken and a popped rivet in the lumbar support mechanism. The repair looks fantastic (can't even tell it was broken before) and I'll definitely be recommending it to friends! read more

This is the second time I'm reviewing Javier's business and his work. In 2016 they (Encinitas Upholstery) redid my outdoor furniture and it came out wonderful. So when I decided to have my living room couch redone, of course I called Javier again. I picked out the fabric I wanted (at UFO in Vista) and gave it to Javier when they picked up my large sectional. They were there on time and took my couch away with my instructions on how I wanted it done. I stopped by the shop to check to see if they purchased the right fabric, they did, and to see if they understood my instructions. Also unnecessary as they were doing the work exactly as I wanted. This past Saturday they delivered my couch as well as my matching ottoman and also 2 other ottomans that matched the fabric from last years work. All of it was beautiful!!!! I received a personal referral for Javier and Encinitas Custom Upholstery to replace the material on expensive mid century modern chairs. I provided the material, and received a fair bid to reupholster both of the chairs. When they picked up the chairs from my home, I was told it would be about 10 days before I got my chairs back. They do beautiful work; perfect in fact. The material was placed correctly on the chair, it was tight, the buttons were placed perfectly. The other "bird chair" had the foam replaced, and it saved my from paying $1500 for a new original cover. I could not be happier with the workmanship! The reason I gave them 1 star off is that they did not keep their word about the delivery date. My suggestion to anyone who deals with them, is get a commitment in writing about the return date, with a penalty clause. They have so much work, and their reputation is excellent, I believe they are too optimistic in their ability to determine an accurate completion date. Would I use them again? You bet. I want the best craftsmanship. Javier did give me a surprisingly generous discount for making me wait beyond the promised date. I am now a happy customer, and I will be returning with the rest of my projects. read more

Avoid. So I brought my Tacoma in here on the recommendation of an employee at a Toyota dealership after they told me they didn't do steering wheel repairs. The leather on the top section was worn and peeling off, so I brought it in to see if they could fix that section, and they said no problem. Flash forward, I drop it off and pick it up and inspect the section and see there are gaps on both sides where it meets the side sections of leather so I'm like hey, can you fix this? I bring it in another day, they fix it, it still looks shoddy, but I'm like, "whatever, I can live with it". Flash forward three more months, and the new leather looks like the old leather! It's already peeling off leaving black stuff on my hands. So I buy this steering wheel skin kit off of Amazon specifically for my truck, call them and ask them if they could install a whole new skin. They said no problem and I thought it was awesome cause they were crediting me for the past work and I was to pay the difference. So I drop off and pick up my truck once again, inspect the work, and it looks good, I mean all they had to do was stitch it, figured what can go wrong, right? Wrong. I get home and something looks off. I realize there is this gap in the steering wheel where i can see down from the top into the assembly where the air bag, horn, etc is. I go down there the next morning, show them the issue, and they tell me they didn't do it. I shake my head, try to say it wasn't there before, but how can I prove it? I didn't take pictures of the steering wheel before the installation, so I'm like whatever and leave. Mind you I bought this truck certified pre-owned a couple years ago and take it in for regular servicing. Had there been an issue, trust and believe the dealer would have said something. Anyways, so I took it in to a Toyota dealership and they told me the entire steering wheel needed to be replaced, can't be fixed... thank god I got the extended warranty otherwise I would've been out over $700 plus the $180 I paid Encinitas Custom Upholstery. So I was covered. I did lose out on about 4 work days of having my truck, having to Uber back and forth, and the money paid. Again, avoid, I'm sure you can find better upholsters. read more

I needed the headliner in my car replaced. I called my longtime auto mechanics and they recommended Encinitas Upholstery. Apparently, the proprietors have been in the business a long time and headliner replacement is a routine job for them. I called and received an estimate on a Tuesday. I brought my car for a color-match the same day. I was able to get an appointment for Wednesday so I dropped my car off. Encinitas Upholstery finished the job and I picked up my car Wednesday late afternoon. Between the initial phone call and picking up the car was about 24 hours. The headliner looks good, though there is a strong smell of new synthetic fabric and glue. I am currently airing out the car and expect the smell to dissipate. Overall, I am pleased with the results. The replacement headliner is basic and looks pretty close to OEM. The office has a small family business feel and the proprietors were cordial and responsive. The price was very reasonable and the work was completed quickly and with a level of quality that matched my expectations. read more

This was the worst experience ever! Don't go there!!!! I took an ottoman and armchair in to be redone and some fabric to make pillows. It took numerous phone calls to finally get them back. when I did the armchair was covered in the wrong fabric. they took the chair back.....many more phone calls and many more promises of completion. another 6 months gone by.....so I stopped in. My chair was shoved in the rafters with not chance of being done. These guys are the worst.......and they ruined $200. of fabric. read more

Nice guys, but their work (auto interior) is terrible. Numerous problems from losing parts, somehow messing up wiring in the car (not sure how), and the interior work was not fixed properly- it took me 3 visits to get it at least to the point I could drive the car away and take it somewhere else to get fixed and not have to pay twice for the work. read more

I had patio furniture that was torn along the seams and brought it into Javiar. They were able to repair in 2 days, and even replaced the zippers since they needed it. Pricing was fair, service excellent. Only thing is to call Javiars cell 7609087718 which is not listed online or to drive shop and pull around to back garage if front door is locked before 4pm M-Th and 3pm in Fri I believe. We inherited a high-end couch from a friend of mine which was in good shape except that the seat cushions needed to be reworked as they had lost their firmness. We called Encinitas Upholstery. After giving us a free estimate, they came out and picked up the cushions also for free. Initially we decided we would just have three of the 5 seat cushions replaced as the other two were in relatively good shape. Encinitas Upholstery guaranteed that I would be happy with their work and if I was not, they would rework the cushions to my satisfaction. As it turns out we were so happy with their work that we decided to have the remaining 2 seat cushions redone as well as 4 other Bergere chair cushions done. They are apparently a second-generation family business who prides themselves on customer service and quality work. I would recommend them and use them again. read more

Zero stars if I could! I should have just walked out the first time I walked in. I dropped off my ottoman 2 months ago with a promise date of one week. After the first month I just stopped checking in and figured it was a lost cause. I randomly stopped in two months later and he asked me how he could help. I said well how's my ottoman doing? He said oh great it's done glad you came back, guess his phone was broken. He brought down some completely different ottoman right color wrong design. After telling him it's not mine for 10 minutes, they finally dig under pile of crap in the attic and find mine untouched. He apologize prophetically and I just said put it in my car and don't say another word. I looked at him in disgust and drove away. Sorry for the bad grammar but I'm still fuming! In December 2015 I brought my car in to have the drivers side seat re-upholstered. When I picked up my car later that day it completely stank of chemicals, I drove home with the windows open (in the rain) figuring the smelll would dicipate over time. The next morning when I got into the car I noticed the leather that had been put in was peeling and was a completely different color underneath, upon further inspection it was clear this leather had been recently painted to match the color of my cars upholstery hense the chemical/toxic smell. I took my car back to Encinitas Upholstery where they said that the leather they put in was definately faulty and their supplier must have given them a bad piece??? Unfortuantely the supplier was now out of stock of this leather and they would order a new piece which should arrive the beginning of January 2016. They replaced the peeling piece of leather with a temporary piece (which does not match). I was really hoping not to give such a negative review but we are now in March and I have not heard anything from them. I would only trust this company if you bring your own fabric/leather as the workmanship seemed ok. I however will not be going back and just thankful that my car does not stink anymore! read more
