Encinitas custom upholstery to the rescue!! A few years ago my console lid in my car started tearing and peeling. It looked really ugly. So I decided to try to dyi it and I ordered the piece of leather to have it recovered. Fast forward a few years (it looked even worse, procrastinate much?) and I decided to attempt to do it myself. Yeah, not a good plan. I took apart the pieces and tried to stretch the piece to fit. It was not going to happen and I didn't want to break anything. Admitting defeat, I did a Yelp quote request to several companies, but they were to busy for a small job. Frustrated, I let it sit in my car with the lid off for a few more months. I finally got to the point I couldn't look at it anymore and brought it in to Encinitas custom upholstery on el Camino real. The woman looked at it and gave me a quote. It was worth the price she quoted just so I didn't have to look at or think about it anymore. I returned a week later and it was done. I reinstalled it and it looks good as new. I am a designer. Don't walk, run. Horrible experience. Javier is absolutely beyond rude, untrustworthy and passive agressive. He agreed to do a custom project for me and we had a timeline which he pushed out multiple times. After several months, I finally gave up and had to pick up the materials for the job (fabric, hardware and wood) ...they were in a junky storage room. His workshop was messy and dirty and he had to search for two days to find missing hardware. Somehow things work out for the best. I selected Encinitas Upholstery through the Neighborhood App recommendation and after checking reviews on Yelp. I wanted to upholstery two very fine custom ordered French wingback chairs that I've had 30 years. My goal was to upholster exactly as they originally appeared . Encinitas Upholstery did an extraordinary job at a very reasonable price. As a note, you must be patient in how long it will take because they are backed up with orders through January and part of February. I was quoted two weeks and it took a full three weeks. I brought my valuable 1900 era rocking chair to be reupholstered 2 1/2 months ago and it was promised to be done in 2-3 weeks. Each time I called after the 3 week time, I was told it would be ready in another week and it wasn't. I went to the shop and the door was locked (during open hours) and both phone numbers disconnected. I went around back and found the door open and talked to the guy who upholsters cars and the chair was not there. He said he'd text the guy who has my chair but I didn't hear back. I texted the disconnected number and didn't hear back. I FB messaged and emailed and finally heard back! The chair was done... but guess what? It was done with the wrong fabric! I just paid, picked up my chair and left. I do have to say that the craftsmanship was excellent, it just has to be redone because he used the wrong fabric. read more

This is the best place to have anything re-upholstered. Javier and team re-upholstered both the driver and passenger seats of my Volvo and replaced the headliner, all work was perfect! Recently I had a chair re-upholstered. They had a wide variety of fabrics to select from and with their help I found the perfect color and print for my room. They also added padding to the cushions and cleaned up the wood. I am very happy with the finished product. They also repaired the driver seat on my 2017 Toyota Prius Prime this year. After being rear ended the seat moved slightly so Toyota Carlsbad Collision took it to Javier to be repaired. It is perfect now! I brought my car to Encinitas Custom Upholstery (ECU) to have my two front seats reupholstered and to replace the carpeting inside the car. Javier is a super nice guy and very easy to get along with. ECU did a superb, professional job on my reupholstery project. I am extremely pleased with the results. I asked Javier if there were any extra carpet left over if he could save it for me so I could cut out some floor mats. Instead, Javier said he would re-do my existing floor mats and bind them with the carpet material. I had arranged for my neighbor to drive me over to ECU to pick up my car when it was finished, but my neighbor got sick and had to go to the hospital instead. Javier sent someone to pick me up and drive me to ECU so I could pick up my car. The service and quality of workmanship from Javier and ECU is something you would expect from yesteryear and is very uncommon today. I had purchased a used car from a dealer. I noticed a urine smell coming from the car. I followed my nose and it ended up coming from the driver seat. I got it detailed and even suggestions from detailers, but cleaning it wasn't going to fix it. The cushion needed to replaced-period. I thought replacing cushion would be in the thousands. I called a few places but no one could do leather ventilated seats. I took my car to Toyota Carlsbad who referred me Encinitas Upholstery. I got a quote from them to replace the bottom cushion entirely and clean the leather was just over $200. SCHOCKED. The old cushion was absolutely disgusting and the new cushion looks great! Sincere employees, but poor customer service; messy shop. I can't attest to the quality of their work, but their customer service isn't the greatest. I brought my car in for an estimate and was told that my seat could be repaired as long as I dropped my car off between 8-3pm. After figuring out a good date (switching cars with my wife), I called four times and left two messages over a three week period to confirm drop off. No answer. I brought my car in on the planned day, and the employees told me that they were booked out for the rest of July. I'm just glad I didn't have to take off a day of work for this. I should have read the other reviews more closely. The shop is a mess - I shouldn't have had an expectation that they would be organized enough to quote me a time over the phone. I was able to schedule an appointment in person (I hope). I'll update this review once I can verify quality of work. read more

There are other places to get upholstery work done that are better, cleaner, quicker, and the same price. I had automotive upholstery work done and the results were mediocre. First of all, the promised deadline was missed. It took three weeks to get covers installed....no custom work involved at all. Second, the shop is a messy disaster. If you cherish your item, don't go here. My seat had a stain on it from who knows where. Lastly, their prices aren't very competitive. I went to another shop to get work done and got better results in a fraction of the time and at the same price. read more

Don't use this business unless you don't care on how long your job takes & a moody owner(Javier). I waited 3 months for one chair to be completed. I was promised over and over, week after week! Still he never worked on my chair. The only reason I'm giving 3 stars instead of 1 is I finally got my chair. He also inconvenienced me by not having his credit card machine available. He said he was changing companies??? I called the credit card company to ask why this might be and they said people who need cash right away might be the answer. For whatever reason, I might have not done my repair had I known I would have to shovel out hundreds of dollars!! I will NEVER use them again. Visit the mess of a business and I'm sure you will go elsewhere. There are better and more professional business out there esp in our area!!! read more

I highly recommend this place for all of your upholstery needs! I needed a 9.5' custom cushion made for my bay window seat. I described the cushion to them over the phone, and they gave me a reasonable quote. A representative came over to my house to measure for exact dimensions, and following the appt, I was provided with the amount of fabric required to make the cushion. I purchased my fabric elsewhere and brought it in the shop. I was quoted a lead time of 3 days only, and sure enough, I received a call on the 3rd day to inform me my cushion was available for pick up. The seat cushion is very well made and so comfortable, and has become our favorite seat in the house!!! read more

So I brought my 2004 Chevy Silverado in to get the headliner replaced because mine was falling off and was quoted for 285. Dropped my truck off around 10am and got a call around 419 from a random number with no voicemail when I called back they said my truck was ready but they were closed but they could wait for me to come get it. I felt bad for being late to pick my truck so I paid before I got a chance to inspect the work. Big mistake on my part. They did a decent job on the headliner but it looks like they attached someone else's sun visors either that or they destroyed mine pretty bad....Also the stitching on the material around the visors looks pretty ugly and not finished and also now I have some horrible looking mirror that's severely damaged on my passenger side visor. (My mirror had no damage or scratches) I'm very disappointed in the quality of work and how badly they damaged my passenger side visor mirror. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND read more
