While Tim understands that I want to save $$ he is very good at pointing out potential problems before they occur.

These guys are great. I've used them consistently for my vehicles over the past 4-5 years…read more Today, I took a Mercedes in and it was found I had some issues with the exhaust. Project that would have likely cost me several thousand dollars. Ian, their advisor, instead shared with me that I had an extended warranty with Mercedes and I could take it to them to have the work done for free. I've never dealt with a shop who's ever done something like that. Highly recommend

OVERCHARGING - I brought my 2005 Jeep Wrangler here as a new customer to replace the driver-side…read moreseatbelt buckle. I supplied the part myself because Jeep no longer makes it, and I asked for an estimate for labor only. I was quoted $480 and was explicitly told this was a high estimate and that the final cost would likely be lower unless the job turned out to be unusually difficult. This repair is very straightforward and, based on standard repair information and widely available tutorials, should take about one hour. This is not a complex or labor-intensive process. There are four bolts to remove the seat and one other bolt to remove the receptacle for the seatbelt. When I picked up my car, I was charged the full $480 with no explanation. The invoice did not include an itemized breakdown of labor hours, labor rate, or how the charge was calculated. After I questioned the charge and pointed out that this is typically a one-hour job, they reduced the price by $50, bringing it to $430, which is still extremely high for this type of work. They later offered $100 off as store credit if I brought my car back, but I'm not comfortable returning, since my concern is being overcharged in the first place. This shop had an opportunity to fix the issue by issuing a fair refund, and they chose not to. I was hoping this would be an honest, reliable shop for all of my future repairs, but they have lost my business. If you're a woman, I'd recommend coming here with a man so you're not overcharged based on assumptions. After reading other reviews, I noticed that another woman described a very similar experience of being overcharged, which makes this feel like a pattern rather than a one-off mistake. I left feeling like I was taken advantage of. Once I pushed back, the cost suddenly dropped, though still not to a reasonable amount. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this shop. Transparency and fair labor practices matter.

I spoke with Todd there, and he was able to help me with every single thing that needed to be done with my car---they even gave me a loaner car to drive while they worked on my car---super helpful and a GREAT perk. They are friendly there and never tried to upsell me on anything that wasn't needed---super important to me as a woman/person who doesn't know much about cars. I just want to put in my key and drive, lol! Todd was very honest and took care of everything I needed. The oil change was very reasonably priced. I needed brakes and also a new back tail light, which Todd found the same exact light outside of the dealership that saved me money (everything on Lexus is $$$ to replace). I appreciate that, as I don't have the time to search for parts and other places to get a deal. This is my new, one-stop shop & so happy I found it! Thanks for the great customer service, Todd! I will be back for my car needs! I highly recommend this place.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I am extremely upset with my experience at Pep Boys Encinitas,…read moreand I hope someone takes this seriously. On Friday, June 5, my dad brought my 2013 Scion FR-S into Pep Boys Encinitas for an alignment while I was out of town. According to him, the appointment seemed to go fine, and an employee even commented that he couldn't believe I was selling the car. The shop also mentioned that the car had other repairs that would cost around $1,500. However, after the alignment, my car began having a serious issue it had never had before. When turning, the steering wheel would get stuck at an angle and then suddenly snap back into place. The car also started losing traction when going around bends, even while driving under the speed limit. This was extremely scary and unsafe, and this problem did not exist before the alignment. On Tuesday, June 16, I brought the car back to Pep Boys for an inspection and explained that the issue started after the alignment. The employee helping me dismissed my concern and said it had nothing to do with the alignment, even though I was explaining that this was a brand-new issue. I dropped the car off at 9 a.m. and asked several times when it would be done, but I was repeatedly given vague answers and no real estimate. To make the situation worse, even though I gave them my phone number and I was the person driving and dealing with the car, they called my dad when the car was finished. My dad lives in Mammoth and was not the person available to pick up the car or handle the issue. I found that extremely unprofessional and dismissive, especially after I had been the one communicating with them. They then told my dad the problem involved a rod or bearing and that the repair would cost around $1,500. When I came in to pick up the car, they again insisted it had nothing to do with the alignment, despite the fact that the car did not have this steering or traction problem before the alignment. I understand that cars can have existing issues, but I do not feel my concerns were taken seriously at all. A serious safety problem appeared after the alignment, and instead of properly addressing it, the shop dismissed me, gave unclear communication, and called my father instead of me. What I find unbelievable is that after I described a steering and traction issue, they still let me leave with a car that did not feel safe to drive. I left feeling ignored, dismissed, and extremely uncomfortable with how the situation was handled.
