This review is specifically for Dr. Alexa Williamson. I can't personally attest to this particular office since I wasn't seen here, but the fact that she's part of this team already tells me you're in excellent hands. Dr. Williamson is the kind of doctor who genuinely exudes humanity -- and the kind of dentist who actually makes you want to go to the dentist. In just a few short minutes, she showed what it means to be kind, gentle, caring, and truly empathetic. She does not make you feel judged or pressured, and she doesn't diagnose based on what's financially beneficial to her. Instead, she clearly explains your options, gives her honest professional opinion, and lets you decide what feels right for you. I hadn't been to a dentist in years before seeing her and was extremely anxious because of past bad experiences. I chipped a tooth over the weekend and needed to see a dentist urgently. Dr. Williamson immediately put me at ease -- my anxiety completely disappeared. If you have the chance to be treated by Dr. Williamson, take it. I met her once and I can confidently say it was enough to thoroughly convince me that she is someone who genuinely cares about her patients as human beings and is eager to provide the highest level of care. read more

My kids (ages 3 and 5) had their first appointment here today and loved it! The dental hygienists were so friendly, explaining what they were doing each step of the way. Thank you Dr. Spencer! My daughter was totally traumatized by a different dentist. Dr. Spencer Maseuth was incredibly patient and worked with her over multiple appointments to get her comfortable - started with just meeting in the lobby, then visiting the exam room, then sitting in a chair, etc. He was super patient and recognizes that making kids comfortable with dentistry is vital to ensuring they continue to have dental care throughout their lives. Best dentist (especially for children) ever! It is always the nicest dentist visit for my child I have ever been. From making a quick first appointment, to entering with a kid who just looked like he entered Disneyland, waiting time, to meeting the dentist, everything was just a positive experience. i usually leave the dentist (the one we went to prior to here) with my kids and a long list of estimates and charges for things that they recommend we need to do (sealants etc). what a refreshing experience to come here and just be told straight up what the kids actually do and do not need! everyone was super kind and we really liked the dentist we saw! felt like i could trust his judgement. no extra charges or hidden intentions. it was so easy and positive and quick too! guess we found a new dentist. thank you! read more

Contradicting their website they do have several patients waiting in the waiting room. Next you have the receptionist sitting at the front desk constantly talking on the phone with NO MASK! See picture. They had four chairs but instead of using every other one, they use the 2 chairs next to each other. Yes, they are 6ft apart but here you are working in the mouths of two patients without masks at the same time for an extended period of time. SHM Makes me question their disinfectant practices too. This office clearly doesn't have our well being in mind!! My family will not be returning. read more

The entire TEAM here is fantastic! We just moved here and everyone was very welcoming and friendly. They have TV screens in the ceiling for the kids to watch a movie. We didn't feel rushed at all, and they had good covid restrictions in place (masks, temperature checks). Dr Spencer is fantastic and clearly explained everything to the kids, as well as the adults. Was able to squeeze my child in when she had tooth pain while on vacation! Xrays Monday and fixed all of her cavities on Friday! My daughter (Callie) and I loved our visit with Dr. Spencer yesterday! His staff was very warm and welcoming, and the lobby was very inviting (and full of toys). I wasn't quite sure what to expect, as my daughter is only 16 months, and does not like having people stick their fingers in her mouth. The appointment with Dr. Spencer went very well. The hygienist kept my kid entertained while Dr. Spencer educated me on dental health, told me what I should be doing different, and what I was doing correctly. He gave me the run down on how diet, and bacteria can effect our dental health. Near the end of the appointment he poked around my daughter's mouth. Very painless, and not traumatic! We even got a complimentary tooth brush, balloon, and small toy. I have heard negative stories about dentists encouraging mothers to wean their breastfed babies and toddlers, but Dr. Spencer said nothing negative about it at all, which I really appreciated. Although we did not get any type of dental work done (cleaning, etc),if we need any we will most definitely get them done here. Five stars all around! read more

We have been a part of this practice since they opened. We started in the Carmel Valley office 12 years ago. We moved to the Encinitas office because they are closer. They are the BEST. And once Covid started and they were able to open back up, they have made it so easy for us to feel safe and well cared for. The front desk ladies are the sweetest and they always have there masks on even though they have the shield up too. My son has anxiety and all of the doctors are gentle with him and he loves going to the dentist. We love Dr. Kristen. She is the best adult dentist EVER. There aren't enough stars! From the moment you walk in to the the friendly, comfy waiting area (with great toys) until you leave, you feel taken care of! My kids (3 &5) are so excited when they know it's time to get their teeth cleaned. The hygienist, Stephanie and her staff are stellar and always go slowly with the kids explaining every instrument and what they are going to do with it. And Dr. Spencer.....like literally THE NICEST, most warm dentist I've ever met! He's great with the kids and addresses all of of my concerns and questions. The kids always leave with balloons and prizes and beautiful, clean mouths. I should add that I travel from Oceanside just to go here. So worth it!! read more

All I used to know about teeth was that Dracula had/has some seriously developed canines (is he immortal?). Now at least when I make my biannual pilgrimages to Dr. Whetsell's office, I know two things are going to happen: 1. I am going to get my entire mouth detailed to a degree that makes me want to leave a massive tip. 2. Dr. Whetsell is going to have a straightforward conversation with me about how I'm doing on my brushing and flossing now that my parents are not making me do it. That second point is crucial to me because finding a good dentist is as important (and challenging) as finding an honest mechanic. Why? They are both essential for preventative maintenance and when something does go wrong, you REALLY need their help. Translation: you're willing to pay anything to solve the problem and unless they are a true advocate for you, you're going to pay a lot more than you should. Luckily, Dr. Whetsell falls squarely into the patient advocate box. I've been to dentists seem to always be trying to sell me something and others who just check the "annual cleaning" box and send me on my way with no actual assessment of my actual dental health whatsoever. Dr. Whetsell is a far cry from either. She's extremely personable, takes the time to communicate with me in terms that I can understand, and is very candid with me about what she sees that may need attention. She tells me if it's serious, if it can wait 6 months, or even if it's something I can correct on my own by improving my flossing technique - and yes there is an actual technique. Apparently, once you get the floss in between the teeth you are supposed to sort of wrap it around the tooth on each side in a little half-circle (rather than just going straight up and down). You're welcome. Thanks to her expert tutelage, I haven't had a cavity in 10 years and the future looks denture-free (#37&denturefree). Anyway, here's how I know what she's about. A while back our candid mouth-centered conversation went into the dreaded arena of gum recession. We knew the gums on my inner bottom four teeth we're a little thin, and Dr. Whetsell informed me that sometime in the next year I should see a periodontist (or "perio" as they say in the biz) just to be safe. I said I would look into it and a couple of months later, in an uncharacteristically proactive moment, I actually made a few appointments around town. The range of prices I was quoted for the gum graft surgery was confusing and scary. One came in at $3500 and another (who was particularly proud of her countless certifications) came in at 6K! I took my numbers back to Dr. Whetsell and she immediately assured me that these quotations were outrageous and that the procedure I needed should be no more than $2500. She referred me to two periodontists that came very highly recommended and sure enough, they came in at $2200 and $2400 - and the latter quote included extending the graft to one additional tooth on either side to make the graft bulletproof. Thanks to Dr. Whetsell's council, I got the graft and when it came time to pay, I actually felt good. This necessary surgery had restored my gums to their original, root protecting glory and I knew that I had not been overcharged. I now live in Florida but since I visit Cali a few times a year, I still only see Dr. Whetsell when it comes to my teeth. I bragged to the receptionist about this and she surprised me by saying that I'm not the only patient who books his/her appointments from out of state. So I ask you, is your dentist worth traveling 3000 miles for? read more

Each member of the staff, from setting my appointment with Emily to the cleaning with Dr. Kristen; posses a level of care and passion that is unmeasurable.
