EDIT - This is the second edit for my review, and I'm bringing it up to 5 stars now thanks to their help. After some confusion about pricing for a service (installing a piano dolly on a concert grand) which was scheduled but not performed, I was able to resolve this disagreement with the management team. It was an uncomfortable few days, when I thought I had been treated unfairly, but everyone at Encore hung in there and made sure we resolved the issue. If I could give them a sixth star for being patient with my grumpy pants, I would! I have used Encore to move several instruments, both for professional venues and also for the homes of students and friends. They have been very good about communicating their schedule, which OF COURSE changes throughout the move-day, as they deal with various moves around the Bay Area. I've always appreciated how both the movers on the truck and the office staff have been in constant contact during the day of a move. Best of all they know how to carefully and quickly move a piano. I have seen them manage some daunting stairwells. During COVID times they have been respectful about safety, and stayed masked and distanced during their time working, although I wish they had a policy that required real masks, and didn't allow for ineffective coverings like bandannas and athletic gaiters. read more

The Consulate General of the Republic of Korea gifted us a beautiful black Yamaha piano in perfect condition. Since he is moving back to Korea, he hired Encore Piano movers to deliver the piano to our home. Their moving price was $430 and other comparable movers provided an estimate for $600. Since their price was competitively better, the Consulate went with this company. Encore Piano movers texted me that they were 30-40 minutes at 6:58am. I was in the back room breastfeeding babies and my husband was working from home, so we both had our hands full, but we were prepared for their arrival and to let them know where to place the piano. Just looking at the piano from standing in front of it, everything looked perfect. My husband briefly looked around standing up and walking around the piano, and didn't see any damages. He never thought of crouching down to look at the piano closely like an investigator (ie back and bottom corners of the piano). Well, the next day, I had help with the babies and cleaned the piano, and found several scratches and dents (even broken wood in the back upper corner!). One would never see this unless you looked closely. I am livid. I hired professional Yamaha piano cleaners and they can't believe how this perfectly maintained piano arrived to our home with dings and scratches everywhere. We moved this summer, and had two pianos moved and stored by Encore. They were quick to take our business and pick up the pianos. But, when it came time to set up delivery, it was like pulling teeth to get something scheduled. Nobody picks up the phone, and more than once their voicemail was full and unable to receive new messages. When I finally did get a call back, I was told I had to block out an entire day for delivery because they wouldn't tell me what time of day the delivery would be until the night before. As a professional musician, and mom to two kids whom I commute to school 30 minutes one way each day, it was exceedingly hard for me to block a full day. It's not like I can work remotely, get paid time off, or just not take the kids to school. But that was quite honestly the least of my issues with Encore. More of an annoyance. My pianos we're finally delivered on October 9th. I found that one of my piano benches had been significantly nicked up, and they agreed to take it back with them to repair it. Worse though, when setting up my grand piano, one lone guy put the legs on, and then, by himself, tipped the grand piano from it's side back onto its legs. There was already a small hairline crack in the front right leg. Unsurprisingly, the force of the piano coming down hard onto that leg split the leg significantly. When I pointed it out, the lead mover tried to say that the original paper work already showed a crack so they weren't responsible. I pointed out the brand new wood dust/chips around the base of the leg, and he admitted that yeah, he'd noticed that too and finally admitted that it was them. It was disingenuous, at best, for them to try to deny culpability when they already knew it was their fault. They agreed to come back for the leg when their repair guy had time. Repair was scheduled for November 18th, almost 6 weeks later! They left it as is, and my husband had to put a vice around the leg to prevent it from splitting further under the weight of the piano. On November 18th, they came back for the leg. They placed my piano back on its side against the wall of my studio, and it's been living there for over a month now. I haven't had my bench in my possession since they took it back to be repaired on October 9th. There has been no contact from Encore about when I can expect my repaired piano leg and bench to be returned to me. At this point, Encore should reimburse me the moving fees to compensate for the loss of use of my instrument! I hope to update my review with a positive outcome... read more

Encore Piano moved my Yamaha NU1X from San Francisco to San Jose and delivered it in perfect condition on schedule. Initially we did a number of calls and emails to make sure the team knew the layout of where they were picking up and delivering, i.e. steps, overhead clearance, tight turns. So be sure to take a few pictures you can send to them beforehand. They came as scheduled, those guys are strong and took the piano down my stairs, which are fairly steep, easily and safely. The movers called last night to ask about the stair situation at my house- I sent photos last night so they knew how many people are needed to maneuver my very narrow stairway with a baby grand piano. The movers called 30 minutes before delivery, the delivery was made WITHIN the promised time frame. The guys that showed up are super professional, extremely hard working, and well put together team . I was so impressed with their work ethic and respect for my house and the piano. All the surfaces were protected and they took utmost care not to damage anything . In fact - there's not a single scratch on the walls or the piano. We had a service to move our piano and we unfortunately had a bad experience. Maybe they were just having a bad day but I would not recommend these movers. There are movers with 5 star overall average reviews that are better options. We requested an advance courtesy call before arrival and we were not provided one as requested. The movers ultimately arrived and were rude. We asked them to please wait outside for a minute while we open windows due to Covid-19 precautions. They barged in and did not follow our requests. Highly unresponsive and unprofessional. They delivered the WRONG piano to our house, and damaged the exterior of our home in the process. While they got us the correct piano in a couple days, and promised to fix the damage to our house, after six weeks they have still done nothing. We hired Encore to move an upright piano from Southern CA to our home in the Bay Area. The movers in Southern CA were professional. The movers in the Bay Area delivered us someone else's piano, and did not bother to check whether their delivery truck's height was greater than the cable and electrical lines connecting our house to the poles across the street. They pulled the cable lines down and pulled the awning of our garage off in the process. PG&E and AT&T had to come to repair the lines. Despite Encore's promises to fix the structure damage, it has not been fixed. Pictures are attached. While one of their managers (Mike) promised to take responsibility for the damage and repair the garage, after six weeks and multiple phone calls to them, we have received no response. I called a month prior to schedule my move for April 8 since they only schedule piano moves on Fridays. Ever since I booked my move, I've been coordinating with Maria, their receptionist to purchase additional insurance since their company only insures up to 100K. I hadn't received a call the morning prior to my scheduled move as told, so I called them with no answer. Upon leaving several VMs, Andrew finally called me back in the afternoon. After explaining to him that my piano is a Bosendorfer Imperial concert grand piano & required additional insurance before the move, he assured me that Kim was working on it. He then noticed that the receptionist who wrote down my information misquoted me & didn't have enough men/muscle to complete my piano move. On top of it all, Andrew asked me if their company could do a same-day delivery instead of having my piano delivered on Saturday. After hearing that, I told him that I hadn't agreed to having my piano stored & that I was under the impression that I clearly scheduled a same-day-move! Through ALL of the back & forth calls/texts along with my patience, I am left feeling that I was being jerked around for the simple fact that I was misquoted for a cheaper price than what the actual cost of the move was. Therefore, Encore didn't want to fulfill their agreement with me hence, purposely chose not to communicate with me. Compounded by failing to assist me in buying additional insurance to fulfill my move, I was forced to reschedule since it didn't make sense to go ahead with the move without having my Bosendorfer Imperial concert grand piano fully insured. Upon calling Encore last month to schedule this move, I actually believed their words on their website & trusted them since they claimed to have been in business for over 35 years! I felt confident in calling on a company that had been moving pianos longer than I've been alive! Boy was I fooled! When I called Andrew to follow-up regarding the additional insurance, his reply was that he couldn't guarantee that he would be able to provide me with it before my move. He sure sounded relieved when I told him to reschedule. My gut tells me just because his receptionist misquoted me half the total price of what my piano move would cost, he's choosing to jerk me around just so that I'll take my business else where. I've honestly taken this GRAND sign as a blessing in disguise that this company is unprofessional & that they DO NOT deserve the honor of touching my Bosendorfer Imperial concert grand piano. After reaching out to John/Jhon the scheduler to confirm that Andrew notified him of the cancellation for my move tomorrow, he responded with "Wrong number". As if his phone call to me scheduling an 8A-11A window for arrival didn't happen? Instead of being able to give themselves the credit of moving such a rare piano, they now have the record of it being a missed opportunity due to their administrative negligence. These guys are great! ..... professionals, careful and efficient. I just had a George Steck Baby Grand delivered to my house. John knew exactly what to do. Together with George and Christian , they took great care of bringing down the piano, 13 steps. I was a little nervous, but everything went seamlessly. After delivery, they reassembled it. No dents or bruises . Easy to contact their office, too. I highly recommend them. Great price , they have insurance, and they came at the time promised. There was some confusion at the beginning. The person on the phone didn't quite know what she was doing or was easily confused. I had to do a couple follow ups, but my questions were quickly answered. When they showed up they were super nice and very careful. They looked over the piano and pointed out some places where the piano had damage. I moved a piano from Petaluma to Martinez. It was picked up one day and delivered the next which worked out perfect. The people in Martinez weren't as nice. They didn't really address me and were more concerned about getting the piano delivered and moving on to wherever they were going. Still they took great care is moving it and placing it where it needed to be. I would use them again. 1 star taken off for the confusion at the beginning and the delivery guys at the end, but great service overall. read more

Disappointed. I called earlier this week, on Monday 3/12, to schedule a move for today, Friday 3/16. I spoke with a woman that was very nice and explained the process. She confirmed they could move my piano on Friday 3/16, and that I would receive a phone call the day before confirming the pick-up and delivery windows. I explained during our conversation on Monday that I was available all day on Friday, except for a 1 hour timeframe between 12:30 - 1:30pm because a meeting. She said that it was not a problem. I received the call late Thurs 3/15, around 8pm. Thankfully, my friend who had to be at the pick-up location was still able to make arrangements to be there during the window on short notice. I suppose I was expecting the call to come during business hours. Today, Fri, 3/16, I received a call from their movers to tell me because of issues with trucks, they would not be able to move my piano today, and that someone from the office would call me to reschedule. I received this call 15 minutes before the scheduled pick-up window. About 20 minutes later, I received a call from the office. The woman that left a message told me that BECAUSE of the 1 hour I was not available, and because of the weather, they had to reschedule me. I am frustrated, because I made this clear on Monday. On Monday, the person I talked to said it was not going to be an issue and that she would indicate it in the notes that I was not going to be available for 1 hour during the day and that they could still do the move on Friday 3/16. I don't appreciate being partly blamed for something when I made it clear at the time I scheduled the appointment. If it was going to cause issues, I would have understood that, at the time I made the appointment and would have selected another day. I understand weather delays, and frankly, if they told me it was because of that, I would have just rescheduled with them. Since she went out of her way to point out it was partly due to something she told me would not be a problem, I have no desire to use this company. I get that things happen, but overall, still disappointed in how this whole experience was handled. read more

Dramatically more cost effective than anyone else. Very reasonable, very respectful, very good communication before and during each part of the move. Moved our 1916 rebuilt Steinway up two flights of stairs, safely stored it for a few days, delivered exactly when they said it would be 120 miles away in perfect condition. These folks are amazing. We have a heavy upright piano, and hardwood floors that were recently refinished. We didn't want to damage the floors when moving the piano. Well, we sold our house and bought another, so we had to move it. Two guys from Encore showed up and I told them my concerns. In less than ten minutes, they had the piano on their truck and not a single scratch to the floor. They delivered it with equal care and efficiency at the destination.
