Fresh wood chips from the damage by Encore.
    Kathryn M.

We moved this summer, and had two pianos moved and stored by Encore. They were quick to take our business and pick up the pianos. But, when it came time to set up delivery, it was like pulling teeth to get something scheduled. Nobody picks up the phone, and more than once their voicemail was full and unable to receive new messages. When I finally did get a call back, I was told I had to block out an entire day for delivery because they wouldn't tell me what time of day the delivery would be until the night before. As a professional musician, and mom to two kids whom I commute to school 30 minutes one way each day, it was exceedingly hard for me to block a full day. It's not like I can work remotely, get paid time off, or just not take the kids to school. But that was quite honestly the least of my issues with Encore. More of an annoyance. My pianos we're finally delivered on October 9th. I found that one of my piano benches had been significantly nicked up, and they agreed to take it back with them to repair it. Worse though, when setting up my grand piano, one lone guy put the legs on, and then, by himself, tipped the grand piano from it's side back onto its legs. There was already a small hairline crack in the front right leg. Unsurprisingly, the force of the piano coming down hard onto that leg split the leg significantly. When I pointed it out, the lead mover tried to say that the original paper work already showed a crack so they weren't responsible. I pointed out the brand new wood dust/chips around the base of the leg, and he admitted that yeah, he'd noticed that too and finally admitted that it was them. It was disingenuous, at best, for them to try to deny culpability when they already knew it was their fault. They agreed to come back for the leg when their repair guy had time. Repair was scheduled for November 18th, almost 6 weeks later! They left it as is, and my husband had to put a vice around the leg to prevent it from splitting further under the weight of the piano. On November 18th, they came back for the leg. They placed my piano back on its side against the wall of my studio, and it's been living there for over a month now. I haven't had my bench in my possession since they took it back to be repaired on October 9th. There has been no contact from Encore about when I can expect my repaired piano leg and bench to be returned to me. At this point, Encore should reimburse me the moving fees to compensate for the loss of use of my instrument! I hope to update my review with a positive outcome...

    Safely delivered

I was super impressed with the service today. The movers called last night to ask about the stair situation at my house- I sent photos last night so they knew how many people are needed to maneuver my very narrow stairway with a baby grand piano. The movers called 30 minutes before delivery, the delivery was made WITHIN the promised time frame. The guys that showed up are super professional, extremely hard working, and well put together team . I was so impressed with their work ethic and respect for my house and the piano. All the surfaces were protected and they took utmost care not to damage anything . In fact - there's not a single scratch on the walls or the piano. ANAZING! considering they had to deal with such a narrow stairwell. Great job , thank you so much! Highly recommend!!!!

Encore did an amazing job bringing my piano into my condo. This was no small feat with a 6'4" piano weighing in at about 700 pounds. They were incredibly careful with it and took every precaution to get it inside safely. All three movers were polite and courteous. I'm very pleased with the service they provided and would recommend them to others.

Encore's delivery truck hit the cable lines and pulled them, and the awning, off our garage. They have not fixed it after 6 weeks.

Highly unresponsive and unprofessional. They delivered the WRONG piano to our house, and damaged the exterior of our home in the process. While they got us the correct piano in a couple days, and promised to fix the damage to our house, after six weeks they have still done nothing. We hired Encore to move an upright piano from Southern CA to our home in the Bay Area. The movers in Southern CA were professional. The movers in the Bay Area delivered us someone else's piano, and did not bother to check whether their delivery truck's height was greater than the cable and electrical lines connecting our house to the poles across the street. They pulled the cable lines down and pulled the awning of our garage off in the process. PG&E and AT&T had to come to repair the lines. Despite Encore's promises to fix the structure damage, it has not been fixed. Pictures are attached. While one of their managers (Mike) promised to take responsibility for the damage and repair the garage, after six weeks and multiple phone calls to them, we have received no response. Avoid this company if you are looking for a professional, reputable, and quality piano mover.

Dan and Spence making it easy work with a tight corner and a flight of stairs

Dan and Spence helped me out today. Made quick work of my upright that i rented from Peninsula Piano Brokers. In and out, up and down in less than 30 min. Hardest part was probably dealing with the traffic As long as I am in northern California, I'm sticking with these guys.

Responsive regarding moving quote but beware, the website has not been updated - they do not do tuning and repair at this point.

I used Jacobsen Transfer to move my Knabe 6'4" mahogany grand piano out of my house to a piano…read morere-builder. They had to bring it down an outside double stairway, one stairway very narrow and steep. I have moved this piano three times before, both in New York City and then across the country. I last brought it into my house thirty years ago, and I know the weight and difficulty first hand as the original movers back then showed up with only two men. I had to assemble some neighbors to assist and bring it up the same stairs into the house. There were five of us, all untrained, yet we somehow made it. This time, Jacobsen correctly had the five men as needed, as well as the proper tools and clearly the experience to ensure the safe descent. It was like watching a well choreographed team as they worked together with singular guidance to bring it down to street level without a hitch. If I ever bring in another piano, I know who I'll call on again. Also note that we had to reschedule the job a few times due to wet weather, but they would not risk the move unless they could ensure a safe environment as well as having enough men for the job. While some lighter pianos could be moved with fewer hands, they well knew the size and weight of my piano required five and wouldn't attempt without, nor would they add any risk that might be caused by inclement weather; exactly the right protocols. Hats off to a great company and the team, and much thanks to all.

I…read morewas connected with someone who was getting rid of a baby grand piano which was perfect timing for my daughter who is taking piano. I contacted Brandon at Firsthand who came highly recommended from a friend, coordinated with him a schedule and he quoted me an extremely reasonable price to move the piano. The day of the move he calls me and says, "I've got good news and bad news" He then explained they had successfully picked up the piano but said he did not feel good about dropping it off at my house because it was in horrible shape and would likely not last or even stay in tune. I had agreed to take the piano, sight unseen and was now saddled with a burden of having someone else's trash. This is when Brandon's exceptional care and customer service shined. He offered to reduce the quoted charge, although I would cover the dump fees BUT he had another used piano from a previous job at their warehouse he offered me for free. He again adjusted the pricing very reasonably for delivery and in the end we had a used but good working piano my daughter is enjoying right now. Brandon turned what was potentially a bad day into a win. Obviously not everyone can be assured to get a free piano but this experience showed that they are genuinely good people who will always get my business in the future when I need moving services. Additionally, they demonstrated exceptional skill in moving large and cumbersome objects such as a piano. Cannot recommend them enough.
