I used Jacobsen Transfer to move my Knabe 6'4" mahogany grand piano out of my house to a piano re-builder. They had to bring it down an outside double stairway, one stairway very narrow and steep. I have moved this piano three times before, both in New York City and then across the country. I last brought it into my house thirty years ago, and I know the weight and difficulty first hand as the original movers back then showed up with only two men. I had to assemble some neighbors to assist and bring it up the same stairs into the house. There were five of us, all untrained, yet we somehow made it. This time, Jacobsen correctly had the five men as needed, as well as the proper tools and clearly the experience to ensure the safe descent. It was like watching a well choreographed team as they worked together with singular guidance to bring it down to street level without a hitch. If I ever bring in another piano, I know who I'll call on again. Also note that we had to reschedule the job a few times due to wet weather, but they would not risk the move unless they could ensure a safe environment as well as having enough men for the job. While some lighter pianos could be moved with fewer hands, they well knew the size and weight of my piano required five and wouldn't attempt without, nor would they add any risk that might be caused by inclement weather; exactly the right protocols. I had a client who needed a piano moved from a moving client and my clients asked to move it from an apartment to their home....the apartment had three flights of different twisting stairs. My clients had a home with one flight of stairs and one small turn.... when they came to the piano lesson the following week I asked them how is The Piano in the house and she said they told them that they couldn't take it upstairs and they shoved it into the garage paid a $400 bill and I was stunned! I've used this company before to move my grand piano several times through the years and to my surprise, I called the office and left a message with this secretary Sally, yet no one had ever returned my call when I filed a complaint. I have never been so unhappy with this company and I'll never refer this company again to any of my clients. Very very disappointed when I look at the photographs of all the tricky staircases that they have maneuvered why couldn't this piano be brought up one flight of stairs into a home? I find this utterly ridiculous I'm still questioning why I never had a return phone call??? read more

Jacobson Transfer is awesome. We are replacing our floors and have to lift our piano onto a dolly to move it around the house during the renovation. We didn't realize that it may be difficult to find someone to do a specialized job for a short duration of time and for a reasonable fee. Jacobsen Transfer were able to schedule us on the same day, came promptly during the estimated window, were very friendly, taught us how to move the piano on the dolly safely, and were very fairly priced. Ever tried moving a piano? I have... those suckers are very heavy. There should be strong man events for piano pulling. Why not! They weight just as much as small cars. Recently, we sort of inherited a new baby piano (the square kind) and had to move it from 4 miles to our new house. The piano's pervious resident had one flight of stair, containing about 13 steps. Moving a piano down any type of stairs can be tricky, however, Jacobson Movers over came this challenge with ease. With the help of their dolly and three giant men, Jacobson Movers carried the 500lbs + piano down the stairs and up into their moving truck (Truck had lowering a lowering tailgate, a must have device for any professional movers that makes transporting heavy equipment easier). When arriving at my house (promptly.. might I add), the movers lowered the truck's tailgate and pushed the piano into the house to my desired location. The whole process took less than a hour. The price was around $200, which is considered a fair price for such a heavy object. Price goes up if you have more stairs. Overall, I highly recommend Jacobson Movers with anyone with piano transportation needs. read more

These guys are the best! I purchased a 7'6" Yamaha C7 from out-of-state - before I did that they were able to come out and evaluate whether or not it could actually fit in through the door of the house. There's a difficult 90-degree bend in the front entry. They were good enough to give me the odds and then said they'd do their best - turns out their best was good enough, and it needed to be to pull it off! The office manager Kelly is very responsive and friendly. She tried to help to coordinate with my schedule, and provided reasonable and transparent price quote, including price per stair. Just this weekend my piano was moved by Jacobson Transfer, and I am impressed! They arrived on time, had my piano in the truck and were on their way to my apartment in about ten minutes. My boyfriend had gone to get gas before they arrived and wasn't even back by the time they were gone! They beat us back to the East Bay from the Peninsula by five, ten minutes. It is obvious they are very experienced. No hesitations, quick, smooth movements, and got it up the narrow stairwell to my apartment, into place, and the top and front piece back in place in about fifteen, twenty minutes all together from arrival. The communicated well with each other throughout the haul up the stairs, and we talked a bit about their history. My Baldwin Hamilton upright was no stranger to them. Side note: I had everything measured out, and I did have some concerns with the narrow turn in the stairwell as they said it was unnecessary to visit the site based on the measurements. I asked a few times if they were sure, and they assured me it was nothing they couldn't handle. It was truth! My piano is in the exact condition from when they first picked it up. Being someone of the renting persuasion, I've had to have my upright piano moved three times. I've gone back to Jacobson transfer each time. They arrived promptly with three men for my appointments, and carefully and expertly hoisted up my upright piano onto their special dolly. Once arriving at the new place they made sure to put it exactly where I wanted it. Very friendly, easy, and reliable. My piano was much less out of tune upon arrival than with other companies. I think they charged me about $150, and that was within Menlo Park and with no big obstacles like stairs. Definitely reasonable to me! read more

I almost didn't write this, since Jacobson already has so many positive reviews... But mine is a particularly heavy piano. I have an antique Andrew Kohler upright, it's really really heavy. Three guys showed up, took it down 6 steps to get into the truck, up 10 steps to get it into its new home, and didn't bat an eyelash. Ok, they remarked on how heavy this particular piano is. But they never stopped, stumbled, or waivered even in the slightest getting this thing into the tight space in my living room. They moved it down two indoor steps, and slid it in next to the stone fireplace without a hitch. They knew where to put the blankets, and had the thing tucked in neatly before they removed the pads. The truck was in my driveway at the new home for maybe 20 minutes. Guys were (as stated elsewhere) friendly, experienced, great. I will recommend Jacobson to any friend needing to move a piano. read more

I just purchased a piano from a private party and Jacobson Transfer moved this piano for me. From the beginning to end, I am definitely impressed by their professionalism and how they take great care of the piano as well as the surroundings. They are also the nicest guys, too!
