I recently gave birth here, and the overall experience was exceptional. Nurses were attentive and able to update each other efficiently to ensure continuity of care. In labor and delivery, the nurse told us that the facility was recently updated. All the medical equipment was new, and the fetal monitor they used was even wireless. The only slight hiccup was that there was nearly no room in postpartum care. Fortunately, we got the last room in the overflow floor. Having giving birth in another state, I was extremely impressed by how updated everything was in the overflow room - the shower was brand new, and the bed could be operated to lengthen or sit at various angles. For pain management, I was a little surprised that their policy is to give ibuprofen only upon request. At the previous hospital I was at, they had a regimen switching between Tylenol and ibuprofen. Parking was probably the most difficult part. The main parking lot is a little far, and you have to use a different entrance if you're coming in the evening (rather than the main entrance of the women's hospital). However, when we left, my partner was able to temporarily park in the rotunda to make the commute a little shorter. read more

Omg do you like mazes and puzzles? The. This is the hospital for you. Everything from the parking lot to the cafeteria and outpatient testing and hospital wards you'll enjoy. I got so lost just trying to park and find a level to cross over to the hospital entrance. Make sure you go to ground level and make your way over to the entrance. Nurses and doctors are great. Also there's a hallway connecting the main hospital to the cancer center so you don't have to leave the parking lot to go there. Part of the maze that's not as bad. Parking is $4 on the Kellogg side for up to 6hrs the. It jumps to $20! If you're on the Kellogg side, you can get a parking sticker which reduces it back to $4. On the hospital side I don't think you can get a sticker so we'll be paying $20! If you're in the Evanston area then this is a good hospital option. If not, it's not worth driving from far away. read more

I'm usually one of the more critical Yelpers so when I go against the consensus, I read through to find out why. I'm still sticking with my 5-star review though. Security and front desk people are professional, alert and pleasant. The Breast Cancer/Mammogram department staff are nice. (One was coughing her head off and made me scramble to put my face mask on, but I've been guilty of coming to an office job while sick so I can't totally fault her.) I like that they still have a mask and anti-bacterial station so those who want to wear a mask can do so. Although the mammograms and ultrasounds aren't exactly the most fun thing to do, I post this publicly so women in their 40s will get it done annually. It's important. Breast cancer is not to be overlooked. I've had a positive experience every time. As awkward as mammograms are, and can feel a little like smashing a pancake, the staff does a great job of trying as much as possible to make women feel comfortable. And I've been examined by both men and women. Same deal. I don't have any negative things to say about this location outside of scowling at that piano in the lobby with no piano player. Just give up altogether and get an overhead stereo. Get rid of that "Addams Family" style piano or put a human in front of it. (Not Lurch though.) read more

One of the worst hospital experiences of my life. Where do I begin? I would have given a zero star if staff wasn't so "nice". While staff are very "nice" they are not trained and are spread so thin it's impossible to give quality care. My elderly mom with dementia sat in her urine-saturated bed for FOURTEEN HOURS! while chased down a to change her. Mom is prone to urinary infections so this is the fast track to another one! -The tap water they serve is from some rusted pipe. UN-drinkable. -DOSING MEDS INCORRECTLY- Mom takes levothyroxine. It's a known fact that it's ineffective if not taken on an empty stomach- yet staff continued to give it to her wirh applesauce even after I reminded them twice to stop? - SLEEP DEPRIVATION TORTURE CHAMBER- A place to sleep? I asked two people if I could recline to sleep and was told NOT POSSIBLE. After 2 horrendous sleepless nights sitting upright it took a cleaning lady to show me how the chair reclined the chair flat!!! At 2am, 4am, 6am.... Staff enter blasting every light startling you awake and shouting their names like your deaf and announcing what they are doing despite asking them NOT to blind us with every single light and try to be quiet and just let us sleep ? - INEDIBLE FOOD- The "thing" they refer to as "Small bites Food". I DARE anyone who works here to EAT the faux eggs made and shot water drenched stuff I think might be bread. This food is not fit for human consumption. Disgusting beyond belief. - OUTDATED BATHROOMS - The bathroom shower is like camping or staying at the Bates Motel on Route 66. The so-called shower head was nothing more than a leaking sink hose that sprayed water everywhere with a tiny camping head that offered zero water pressure. Utterly USELESS to shower my mom who stunk of urine from being left in bed for hours on end. The corroded sink faucet kept dripping water non stop and the paper thin transparent toilet paper was hard as sandpaper. - DOCTORS ARE PHARMA SALES REPS The doctors push drugs we don't need and all junky stuff this alleged "protein drink"called "Ensure" - loaded with artificial ingredients, corn syrup and processed sugar. Do they give this to their family members? - I.V. LINE LEFT IN MY MOMS ARM?? A few hours before discharge the charge nurse says she will come back at 5:00 and help us get mom dressed by removing the pure wick urine suction device. By 5:30 she never shows up so I'm left to do all this myself until the end a staffer helps with mom with her shift but forgets to take out the I.V line which we discover lager when we get home! PARKING IS A COSTLY, NAUSEATING EXPERIENCE- Exiting The Parking Garage is enough to get your car sick and have a panic attack circling endlessly past 50 signs that say exit until you finally get to the ticket gate (I parked on the first level!). Paying $20/night for parking when GLENBROOK HOSPITAL HAS FREE PARKING! This is what happens when corporate greed takes over and mergers are designed to cut corners make increase profits. How about PATIENTS OVER PROFITS? How about filtered drinking water and healthy edible food? And how about wellness OPTIONS in addition to the ones you claim have been "tried and tested". like suggesting cranberry juice and avoiding processed sugar if you get frequent UTI? Evanston Hospital USED to be one of the better hospitals on the Northshore. After the merger with Endeavor Health everything has declined to rock bottom. It's no wonder my mom's former doctor quit. I went there for a psych evaluation recently and the crisis worker was INSANELY rude. Her name is Kimberly Sowell and she gaslit my mom and I straight to our faces. I was panicking from the way she was talking to me like im stupid the whole time and called my mom to tell her that I dont want to come home and she confronted her with "whats this about you kicking her out of the house? You need to pay more attention to your daughter!" I am 25 years old. I hate this lady. Everything else was fine tho. read more

About a 3.5: The Center for Breast Health at the NorthShore Evanston Hospital is located on the second floor, and the front staff has always been welcoming and kind. The staff here, such as the nurses and the doctors are professional, informative, and all exercise the highest level of patient care to ensure you are comfortable at all times. I had to go through some tests here, and while no one likes going through these things, the Center really tries making it as painless as possible, which I appreciated! The receiving front desk by the entryway does need work in terms of being fair in checking in incoming patients - they prioritize certain individuals when there clearly is a line that is of a first-come, first-serve basis. Look, I've been here before. I'm an alcoholic...their favorites... The nurses (some) who care get stuff done and should be commended. But, if you happen to be in a critical situation your care team will be rotated leaving everyone confused. I just discharged myself from the hospital because I was told 5 different things by 5 different nurses. I admitted myself for benzo withdrawal. They handled it, like they've never even heard of xanax or other benzos. I've been to detox units for my alc abuse in the past and its a strict regiment. 4 pills at this dose at this time 4 times a day on the dot etc... At Evanston hospital its kinda when they feel like it. One night I was in their I was throwing up from withdrawal so subsequently could not take my meds. They then did the meds thru the IV. Felt fine for up until the next dose. That nurse saw what was happening and swapped the pills for the IV route within 2 minutes she was back. Today, same thing BUT, different nurse...it never ended up happening and that was the straw that made me leave. Prior I was told that they were gonna switch my meds from valium to librium (which is a long lasting benzo to prevent seizure)((Kinda protocol every where else but it took them 36 hours to get that part)). This was told to me at 8 am, I didnt recieve it until 4 pm. So midnight rolls around and im started to feel shitty. I ask hey I was exposed to get two of those, one every 12 hours. which with the math would be 4 am i would be able to take it technically. But I had the ativan PRN (as needed) . Nurse says" Ill go see if they'll let you get the librium early so you can sleep" I say "Hey if not i'll wait to 4 its no problem I understand protocol and all that." He comes back 5 minutes later and says since you took your meds late we cannot give it to you until 8 am....Your probably confused too. I was too. My final conclusion, it's a learning hospital, the majority of the staff is very young and unprofessional. Your treated as a lab rat rather than a patient. To the two or three triage nurse I truly commend you. My advice to this place is: Have a care team for one patient, it helps with the teaching as well rather than scrambling around from different patients everyday. I should know. I was A medical student at one point I know the intricacies and nonsense that come with insubordination and faulty upper management with no organization whatsoever. I have - or rather, HAD - a new patient appointment with a PCP doctor here in Evanston. I set up this appointment months ago. Over the past several days I have received 8 phone calls reminding me of my appointment. I went online to confirm and then filled out all the proper paperwork in advance of this appointment, including a form saying I will be charged if I cancel late or something - I cannot find a copy of this; the Endeavor patient portal is impossible to navigate. The appointment was scheduled for 2:45 Tuesday afternoon. Monday at 5:08pm someone called to say "that doctor is not seeing new patients, we scheduled you with this doctor instead". What the actual f***!?!??! Last fall I researched and chose "that doctor" for a reason. You had MONTHS to tell me that she was not accepting new patients. And: why even have that as an option on the scheduling page when choosing a new PCP?!???? And of course, the offices are closed so I am unable to reach anyone since I did not get the voicemail about the appointment change until 5:20pm when I picked up my phone after work. I cleared my schedule for this appointment AND I don't want to get charged for canceling late, so I'm going to keep the appointment with this new doctor that I know nothing about (and yes, I googled the sh** out of her and at least she has a few decent reviews thank god). This post is just to let everyone know that the MDs in Endeavor's Pain Mgmt. Dept. do NOT dispense pain medication. So if you're in pain and need medication--not exercises--look elsewhere. I have been going to Endeavor for decades. I've had some excellent MDs and encountered some who should be fired. However, none will give you pain medication, even if you're suffering. I've been told this by MDs there multiple times. They're more concerned with liability than providing needed medication to ease suffering. read more

Both my children were born at this hospital. One of my children spent over 2 months at the ISCU here. My mother has gotten surgeries done here. I am a big fan of the maternal fetal medicine group at this hospital. The hospital did a fantastic job during COVID. Pro tip there is mother's parking on the third level! The only downside is you have to pay for parking. And the women's ward doesn't have its own parking lot, so it's quite a long walk! read more

Dr. Ying Hensel is unresponsive and very dismissive. After writing numerous emails over the patient portal on two separate occasions. Not only did I have to wait more than five days while sending a request every day, as well as contacting Patient Advocate to get a response from the staff, not a word from her. The most recent incident, I had already changed primary care physician so I no longer had to deal with her. I needed a prescription re-filled but my insurance carrier had changed and required pre-approval paperwork to be completed by the prescribing physician which was Hensel. Not only did she not bother to respond, she did not complete any of the paperwork and went as far as cancelling the entire prescription and never said a word to anyone. I had to reroute the required insurance documents to my new doctor, where they were completed and submitted within 24 hours. It took time for the new insurance carrier to receive and approve the authorization for my prescription and my carrier told me it would take 24 hours to 30 days!!! I had to self-pay the prescription as I was already days behind. I picked up and paid with cash, to the tune of $1400.00. I have had several conversations with Patient Advocates at Endeavor who all admitted that it was their fault and their lack of commination that caused this very serious issue. To date, all they tell me is that they are handling it internally and I am left holding the empty bag that was filled with cash, but alas, no more. This was a intentional and blatant form of malpractice. Endeavor just doesn't care and this doctor never reached out to apologize or say a word. I guess healthcare is not the primary focus with some of Endeavors doctors. If you want a doctor that communicates, please, please, look elsewhere. This incident has caused financial hardship and is going unrecognized by Endeavor Healthcare. read more

I was super shocked to see such a bad Yelp rating. My 80 year old father just had surgery here on NYE and. the staff was amazing. Dr.Taylor, Grace, Megan , Adrian and Alex are just a few of the warm, professional and helpful names that have been part of my father's care team. The rooms were super clean and they checked in on him often and with such kindness. My Dad is rather tall and they found an extra long gown to fit him properly.. 2 actually! He is well taken care of and I am hopeful this review gets to the supervisors and managers and board of directors because they should know that our experience was top notch. I visited the hospital today for blood work and cardiac imaging. The blood work was done in 10 minutes and the cardiac imaging for an EKG was also done in 10 minutes! The whole process was seamless, 28 minutes total, and so quick that the parking was free. read more

Would given a higher rating since I've been going to NorthShore now "endeavor" I was in the ER today may 2nd 2024. I went into the ER after work "they let me go early" because of since I was practicing in tears asking for Advil / tylenol again. I went in for my ear. I've been having ear infections time and time again. The ER attending Doctor spent 5 minutes max with me after looking at my ears. Proscribed me a plan killer for 5 days didn't bother to ask what pharmacy to send it to. A random ass nurse came in gave me the after visit summary and left. God dam would rather gone to a different hospital. I have family that are doctors and they were like that just happened. By chance this year The Doctor's EKG had an "blip", nothing crazy, but his primary doc decided to let a cardiologist look at The Doctor. The cardiologist scheduled a nuclear stress test on Valentine's Day and immediately checked him into the hospital based on his stress test. So instead of eating chocolate cake and drinking champagne we were in the hospital. On Feb. 25, 2020, The Doctor went in for a triple bypass at Evanston hospital. There was 100% blockage in two areas and 90% in another area. There was absolutely no indication that there was anything wrong as he didn't exhibit any of the common symptoms (fatigue, shortness of breath, chest/jaw/arm pain, water retention, etc.). The procedure went smoothly with no complications. He had an amazing surgeon who rocked that procedure. His surgeon was very pleased with the process and said he could see an immediate improvement in Brian's heart function. He was in ICU for 24 hours, then in a private room and they had him up and moving right away once the tubes came out. Fast forward to today. He is home and doing well. To look at him, you would never know that he had major surgery this past Tuesday. He still has a long way to go in healing, but he looks great. I was concerned about a possible personality change as I have read papers about that...hell look at Bill Clinton. But The Doctor is still the guy that went in before getting cut :-) I am giving major props to this hospital. From the time we checked into the emergency room to the day of the surgical procedure, the staff was amazing! Customer service skills were off the chart! The nurses, PAs, housekeeping, food service, transporters, the staff where the angiogram was done, the people working in the cafeteria, etc. were all so nice. I am saying for the record this was not a fluke, The Doctor was initally in the hospital from 2/14 to 2/20 as they were trying to figure out the best course of action for him, then 2/25 to 2/29 for the surgery. I was at the hospital every day from early morning to late at night to be with The Doctor. Everyone was friendly and seemed to genuinely care...great bedside manners, even the intern Chaplin. I had no idea that hospital Chaplins did internships! During the surgery, a nurse called me every two hours to update me on The Doctor's progress. At one point I was on a conference call on my work phone and missed a call from the nurse on my personal phone. She called the receptionist at the desk in the waiting area and had them look for me so I could get the update from the desk phone, I wanted to be there with The Doctor every day and had no problem getting him ice water when needed it, but the nurses were constantly telling me to call them for that as they would take care of it, even if I needed water. I just felt like I was capable of getting that for my Lil Man to free them up for more medical stuff. I hope none of you ever need heart surgery, but if you do, ask for Hyde Russell for your surgeon. He was amazing, but most important, he was very personable. When he talked to us prior to the procedure, he was reassuring and comforting. After the procedure, he came out to tell me how it went and it honestly felt like he was happy The Doctor did so well. His delivery of the news felt like he was happy how things went, not that he was this great surgeon who played god and save my husband. He stopped by every day that we were there to check on The Doctor's progress and to give us time to ask questions. He didn't look at his watch, he didn't rush us because we loooove to talk things through (that is the Engineer in him and Chemist in me). And I hope none of my Yelp folks in the Chicago-land area never need to go to the hospital, but if you do, this is the place to go. read more

Would not recommend delivering your child here. The nursing staff is so rude. Throughout my 2.5 days here I only came across 2 good nurses, Fere and Marissa. Once having my child I asked to speak to a lactation consultant. I was told that all the nurses are trained in nursing and that there is no specific consultant. NOT True. Found out on my last day there, they do have one and her name was Faith. I requested to see her and after waiting for 6 hours was unable to. I asked at night to be woken up every two hours so I could feed my baby, didn't happen. I don't think there was even an attempt. They looked at me like I was crazy to ask such a request. It's not like I just went under major c section surgery and needed help. Total joke. I had to keep asking my room to be stalked with water, toiletries and baby essentials. They did not provide any diaper cream so my poor baby girl left the hospital with a rash. Only good parts of my stay besides my beautiful child were Fere and Marissa. The rest need a lesson in compassion, common sense and manners. read more

Would give zero stars if I could. My father was in the hospital getting brain surgery, and I went down to the Market Cafe to get food. I told the worker there making my sandwich absolutely NO CHEESE in my sandwich, due to a severe allergy I had. He made my sandwich and after I took a a couple of bites, I took out two giant slabs of cheese in my sandwich. I was fucking horrified. I did not have my stuff in my purse and I rushed to the pharmacy to grab a bottle of Benadryl. In about 10 minutes the hives set in. I couldn't believe that anyone staffed here at a HOSPITAL could be so careless with allergy requests. What if someone's allergy was life-threatening? They could kill someone with that lackadaisical attitude. I'm fucking my disgusted and that guy should be fired and the whole food area should be ten times better about training their people. read more

This is a wonderful hospital for both patients and and staff. If coming to visit family or friends, one can have their ticket validated. The staff is hospitable and welcoming. Free coffee and tea is available for visitors on the patient floors. Don't forget to visit the infamous piano that plays on its own, with no human assistance! There are several restaurants, and a Starbucks close to the hospital. Once inside, there's no need to leave. The hospital has its own cafe and cafeteria. The food that I have sampled has been tasty. Outside vendors come in on different days to serve their delicious cuisine. My favorite was the taco salad from a local Mexican restaurant. read more

Went to ER for an injured knee- waited 6 hours- and when brought back to a room- no nurse- no doctor- no NP/PA- nobody. THis used to be a good hospital Now it is AWFUL! They are treating my sister horribly! She is a chronic pain patient with multiple rheumotilogical diseases that cause severe pain. The doctors that have come to see her have basically called her an addict because she has said that she is in pain despite the two pain drugs they have given her. They have had horrible bedside manners! They have accused her of drug seeking and not knowing her own body. They have basically said that she can wean down on her pain meds or go home. She is in severe pain every day and the doctors there are not listening to her. This is the worst hospital for any chronic patient. Avoid at ALL COSTS!! read more

Since NorthShore has been rebranded as Endeavor the quality of care has markedly diminished. I went in for my annual physical with now my 4th PCP in as many years because the first two doctors did not instill me with confidence in their abilities. The third doctor left Endeavor/Evanston Hospital. I think I understand why after my last experience there. My current and 4th doctor conducted my annual physical. When I received a bill for a copay (which there shouldn't be for an annual physical) I was told she billed for a physical and an office visit. Turns out when she asked me what concerns did I have, she was really beginning to tally up a menu of items that she could bill me for that are no longer considered part of an annual physical. So when she whipped out a depression inventory because I said I am an emotional eater that was added to the list of items considered beyond the scope of annual physical and, therefore, could be charged as an additional service. I actually told her I'm not depressed and the assessment reflected that. Every other item discussed, beyond height and weight and blood pressure appears to billable as an office visit and beyond the scope of annual physical. Getting a referral to a specialist? You guessed it. That's an office visit. I genuinely felt like I was being upsold by a car salesman. This hospital system used to be a reputable place to get quality care. I can't say that's the case anymore. They claim to still be a nonprofit hospital but it feels like anything but that. This is a corporation looking to make as much money off of people as they possibly can. I will not be returning to Endeavor Evanston next year when I will switch my insurance to Northwestern where hopefully they don't practice a la carte health care. read more

Today my 5 year old daughter had a fall at her school playground hit her front tooth, it's bleeding and loose hanging lopsided in her mouth. It's not loose enough to come out on its own. I called Webster to see if they could see her and they told us to take her to Evanston hospital ER because they had a dentist there. When we got there we were told that they didn't have a dentist, and to call our dentist by the nurse who said that the doctor won't be able to do anything except refer her to a dentist. A great hospital for procedures and medical doctor's. But being a patient,it needs a little help. I admit there are worse places, but when talking a Northshore hospital, you have higher expectation. Rooms are nice and bright, brand new beds, that don't work properly. Can't call a nurse, can't control lights or TV. The best no food after 6pm. Came in for a procedure,which means NPO the night before, got to my room at 8pm,starving, 24hrs no food. Btw, which means a sandwich for dinner. But, had a great nurse, so she gave me plenty a snacks to make up. I have to admit, the staff all of them are friendly. With the shortage we have in workers you have to be understanding.
