My two-year-old sees Dr. Berman, and we had an appointment scheduled for June 8 at 1:15 p.m. We ended up waiting nearly two hours and were not seen until 3:10 p.m. During that time, we did not receive any explanation or apology for the delay. Waiting that long is especially challenging with a young child, and by the time the doctor came in, my son was understandably exhausted and had reached his limit. The actual visit lasted only about seven minutes, which was frustrating given the significant wait time. I also had to make arrangements for my other son to be picked up from camp at 3:00, so the delay created additional stress and scheduling issues. Dr. Berman was kind and professional, but the office's scheduling and communication process need significant improvement. Patients' time--especially families with young children--should be treated with more consideration. read more

Great staff, great doctors and you can even get glasses there or upgrade your lenses in existing glasses. All the doctors are knowledgeable and caring, but I am especially partial to Dr.LeBoyer, who I have been going to for years. He removed my husband's cataracts...perfect. I have recommended him to many friends and they have all been so pleased. read more

While the staff is friendly, I have done a lot of waiting at this office ( almost 2 hrs now). There isn't that many people in the waiting room but perhaps just one doctor on duty today. The office building is old and everything seems disorganized. I have been to another opthamologist in Skokie and the office was very quick( even with a packed waiting room) so I am a bit disappointed here. On a positive note, i am grateful that they took me in on such short notice. I know everybody is trying to use up their insurance benefits towards the end of the year like I am :) Everywhere else I have called have told me the next appointment is a month from now so for them to be taking patients at this time is awesome to me. This practice was a complete life saver for me! By Saturday AM my left eye was swollen shut and causing excruciating pain and I had no idea why. I couldn't get work done and the only way I was comfortable was in a dark room with my eyes closed. I probably tried ten practices before I was able to reach the incredibly kind nurse at Eye Care Limited who miraculously fit me into their schedule on Saturday. I saw Dr. Bornstein who found a small object lodged behind my eyelid, removed it and sent me home with medicine to help with the inflammation. They also squeezed me into their Monday schedule for follow up. I am so so appreciative of the care they provided --- it saved me a few extra days of pain and potential impact to my vision. Everyone at the office was so kind and accommodating. I couldn't recommend this practice enough! read more

This is my review for the Skokie Office (I typically go to the Highland Park office). I had two follow up eye appointments in the same week. After arriving on time for my appointments, I was stuck in the waiting room both times for 45 minutes past my scheduled appt time. I would have been waiting even longer, but went to the receptionist, called out the delay, and only then was I able to get into the exam. The second time I called ahead to see if they were running on time, and they told me to show up 30 minutes after my scheduled appointment. Even after arriving 30 minutes later, I was told there was still a wait and to take a seat. After waiting 45 minutes, I went back to the receptionist and was told that I wouldn't be seen for another 30 minutes! When I told them that was unacceptable, they pointed to another patient in the waiting room and said that patient has been waiting for over 3 hours. Unbelievable! How can they do that to a patient and think it is OK?! The office staff was apologetic for the long wait times and tried to figure out how to squeeze me in or reschedule me for the following day (I can't believe that this was considered a reasonable option). This practice was disrespectful to my schedule and time. I am willing to give a 15 minute grace period for any office appt, but 45 minutes is rude. I'm willing to overlook one time, because I am not unreasonable and know that emergencies come up, but twice in one week is unacceptable. I chose to leave this practice after these experiences. When I called to ask for my medical records to give to my new Optometrist, I was informed that "it is their right" to charge me for my own medical records and that it would cost $.47 cents per page. I have never once been charged for my records when moving from any medical practice! After that response, I decided to write this review. So my 95 year old father who is diabetic and well 95 had a post op follow appointment at 3. Got there at 2:45 and we were told the doctor was running 30 minutes late. A call would have been nice but that is not their "policy." it was 101 degrees. We waited and waited and my poor dad did not see the doctor till after... 5. We did not get out till near 6! The original hospital surgery went faster. I have talked with other clients who no longer use them due to this being a chronic issue. There are medical reasons at times but this was awful. No one even once told us how long it was going to be. Try making a doctor wait for three hours, let me know how that goes. The doctor tried to apologize but his sincerity was lacking. After my appointment with the doctor, I went to the waiting room which was empty, to buy new glasses. The clerk had just finished with another customer actually doting on her, making her a cup of coffee, and having small talk. When I went up to the clerk she told me she could not help me. When I asked why she couldn't help me, at first she said she was too busy the rest of the day placing orders for glasses, and some other stuff. Then she said she didn't know how to look up the insurance. She had no interest in helping me. I told her that I would go elsewhere and she didn't seem to mind. I have been a patient of Dr. Bornstein since 2005 and very highly recommend him. He is extremely qualified and thorough, giving each patient as much time as necessary. This has sometimes resulted in long visits but the wait time has been a lot less for each of my last three appointments. Dr. Bornstein also discovered a Retina issue that my previous ophthalmologist hadn't noticed. I trust his work and advice completely. read more

Late Saturday night I noticed a flash at the edge of my vision in my right eye and I thought I should call the eye doctor on Monday. Then Sunday about noon I had a flood of floaters and I knew I needed to call right away. It was Sunday plus the office was closed except for emergencies due to the coronavirus pandemic. Nonetheless, Dr. LeBoyer met me at the Skokie office that afternoon (with both of us wearing masks, which felt pretty odd). He quickly diagnosed it as a retinal tear and was able to perform laser surgery on the spot. The time from when I first experienced the flood of floaters to when I walked out of his office was less than three hours. Fortunately all went well and it should be okay with no perceptible vision loss. I can't say enough about how thankful I am for his prompt and professional work. I had my appointment with Dr Bornstein yesterday and as usual he was professional but also very caring and personable. He takes as much time as you need to address concerns. Everyone in the office is so nice from the women in the front to the technicians who test vision and many other duties. Always an enjoyable experience considering it is a medical office. read more

Dr. Berman is actually a Neuro Ophthalmologist, but that category was not available in the Yelp directory. I found him to be likable, efficient, interested in his work, and even open-minded. During the exam, some lab tests that I had not seen were faxed to his office by my lyme-literate MD that confirmed that I had Babesia duncani as well as Lyme. He seemed quite curious about it. I wish he knew more about the ocular manifestations of Lyme and the other infections I have. He said there were no abnormalities to be seen in my eyes. Well, maybe not, but I went to him on one occasion having had double vision for a couple of weeks (which I now know can be a symptom of Lyme). I wish he'd mentioned that, because I didn't know I had Lyme at that time, and I might have started treatment sooner. He also had no opinion on my ocular migraines, flashing lights around the periphery of my visual field, blind spot in the middle of the left visual field, or other abnormalities. Because he seemed curious and open-minded the last time I saw him, I will take him a couple of papers on the ocular manifestations of Lyme and tell him it would have been helpful if he had suggested a Lyme test when I described my symptoms. read more

I recently woke up with blurry vision in my left eye. I thought it was something that would resolve on its own but after almost a week it didn't. I decided to call the Eye Care Ltd since it's very close to my house & I had individually researched the doctors on healthgrades. I'm a registered nurse so I pay attention to everything beginning with my first contact with the secretary. She was very nice and was able to get me an immediate appointment. When I arrived I was seen within 10 minutes by an assistant who started my exam. She was very thorough. I was then seen by Dr Leboyer. He did some imaging and was able to tell me that I had scratched my eye & that the lens had healed with some irregularities. He recommended a treatment followed by a simple in-office procedure. My vision is back to normal. I have a follow up in 3 weeks. I am appreciative to him & his staff that it wasn't more serious. read more

There is always a long wait to be seen even with an appointment. The wait for our recent appointment was 50 minutes from the time of the appointment and 60 minutes from the time we arrived and there was only one other person in the waiting room! I have only good things to say in the 14 years that I have been going here. The receptionists greet you with a smile and can I help you. There are a few times I've had an emergency and the staff has always gone the extra mile to fit me in. In that case, the doctors might be a little behind but hopefully you'll understand if you were in the shoes of the person that had an emergency. All the assistants and technicians are helpful, caring and answer your questions. Also having an optical department attached is very convenient and Janet is very helpful and goes that extra step to make sure you're satisfied. read more

The Yelp reviews that have been posted are right: the doctor wait-times can be long and the waiting room is not luxurious. None of this matters. What matters is your eye sight - one of life's greatest gifts. My eye-glass wearing family of 5 and elderly mother-in-law have all seen Dr. Bornstein (and Le Boyer on occasion) for 15+ years and 4 cataract surgeries. The office staff is helpful and competent. Dr. Bornstein is extraordinarily competent and dedicated and he is a top-notch eye surgeon. The reason he's sometimes behind schedule is that he's saving mine or my husband's eyesight from macular holes and retinal tears. Potentially devastating eye problems can develop rapidly and caring for emergencies can cause high wait times. Know that if you are Dr. Bornsteins' patient and have an emergency that he will prioritize your case. For instance, my husband developed a retinal tear over the weekend. Dr. Bornstein fit him into the schedule Monday morning and performed laser repair at the end of the day. This doubtlessly caused other people to have to wait. read more
