I love that they offer kickboxing fusion yoga classes which I'll have to come back for next week. Location is great, staff is so kind, and the membership and class packages are fairly priced. The Yoga studio is an open and sunny room that overlooks a lush backyard. The classes are small - I've not been in one with more than ~8 people - which provides an atmosphere conducive to lots of one-on-one attention, and building friendships with the other regular students. The sessions themselves pull from numerous influences and doesn't fit neatly into any category. It's unique, and a little bit different every time, which keeps it always interesting. All that aside, though, the one reason why I kept going back was for the instructor. Michael, an "accomplished American master possessing great amounts of technical & philosophical knowledge combined with a genuine mystical connection to the path of yoga,"* is the owner of the studio, and his passion for Yoga is both immediately apparent and contagious. He lives Yoga. His Yoga passion is so much deeper than it-makes-my-tummy-tight-and-arms-toned, and students learn, through his classes, to practice Yoga in a similarly mindful way. He is a lifelong student (in more than just Yoga; he is also a black-belt and Buddhist meditator), which I found to be very inspiring to do the same. Anne is an awesome yoga teacher. Her classes are accessible without being boring and she makes sure that each person is comfortable and getting the most out of each pose. My favorite class is the Sunday one since it is yin style, with poses being held for a few minutes at a time... I always feel like I've had a massage after class, and it gets rid of all my aches and pains for the week. But if you like a more active, vinyasa style, you should try the Thursday class. Classes are only $15 each if you buy a package which is so reasonable compared to the prices other places charge. I highly recommend!

Last time I was there, it was $20 a month for a new member, and if you left for a bit for a different gym, and come back, he'll charge you more, and that is why the 1 star. Other than that, it really is a great gym, it was my first love. It's really gritty like Pumping Iron (the movie), and you can get your workout done. The basement is also nice if you want to lift heavy. The times I went had little to no people, so that was a plus (if you just wanna get in and out). Also, I don't know what people consider "clean", but one of the reasons I love the place is because its "gritty", so don't expect shiny equipment. The owner is nice enough, just don't "cross" him by going to a different gym, and you'll be fine.

I can tell you as an unlimited member now for two years, my first thought couldn't have done Glow any less justice. Firstly, there's much more than "just hot yoga" (aka Power Flow), the studio offers Yin, Restorative, Slow Flow, and Foundational Classes (great for beginners as well as seasoned yogis to improve their practice). However, as a Power Fow enthusiast myself, I can be the first to tell you, I never get "bored" of doing the "same thing". Glow's Baptiste style yoga is a moving mediation, a different experience in your body everyday you practice, and a distinct vibe with every instructor who leads you. Glow is more than a great place for sweat or stretch, it's a place where you're greeted with smiling faces, can find community, and walk through the doors as you are and leave feeling better than you did coming in. I go everyday not only because I get to go, but because this place has become an integral part of my self care -- both physical and mental.

Class was $25 drop in and $5 for mat rental (came from out of town but otherwise would have brought a mat) for 75 minutes (~60 minutes more intense with a warm up and cool down stretch time for the rest. Had me sweating, engaging my muscle groups, and feeling refreshed by the end. There is also a cafe with coffee and smoothies plus a shop with exercise fits and yoga mats/towels for sale. Neatly curated. I was a bit surprised the class was led by an instructor who just dictated the flow rather than demoed the flow. Probably fine for those familiar but a bit in accessible for newbies. Usually like when instructors demo the movements and also offer alternates to make a position more advanced or more beginner friendly to meet different needs. I think that would be a nice way to improve the class but otherwise it was a good class.

At Tai Kai you leave with so much more. Not only do you get top level training from the original BJJ school in CNY who has the most black belts around, but you also gain a new family, community, a home away from home where everybody knows your name (like Cheers, but without the alcohol). I couldn't be more sincere when I say you earn a new family. And this was evident when my 5 year old son (who also trained at Tai Kai) was diagnosed with brain cancer. Ken, the owner and my friend the past 10 years, put together a fund raiser at the gym to help raise money for my son and the upcoming medical costs. The turnout was huge and was more than I would've ever expected. Ken and everyone else at the gym checks on My son all the time, asking how he's doing and I wish I can bring him into the gym so he could get to see everyone who cares about him. Others had dropped of food for us, donated toys, clothes...etc to help relieve our burden. The 10 years I've spent training Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, boxing, and mma at Tai Kai; the blood and sweat, the physical rigors and soreness from a great workout....it's all been worth it to be able to be part of a family and community that had my back in the most difficult time of me and my family's life. Then I met with my trainer, Devon. At first it seemed too good to be true, everyone was so positive and supportive from just one meeting. Now after 8 months of going, I know it's just the people. When you join KW, you gain this amazing support system. The coaches and staff are absolutely amazing, empathetic and driven people. From the moment I started, people knew my name, always greeted me, and made me feel comfortable. It's really been life changing to have not only someone to keep me accountable to do my weekly workouts, but also to be flexible. As a mom of two toddlers I don't always have control over our schedules and if I have to change a workout last minute my coach is always responsive and ready to reschedule to make it work. No guilt trip, no negativity, just support and positivity every step of the way. The workouts are fun too. Thirty minute sessions of grind, and not as much cardio as one would think. I used to run and loved it, but I will say that was a worry for me. Our cardio comes in different, shorter bursts. Sometimes in the form of games or creative things, not just running or burpees, the boring things. I highly recommend this place for people who need flexibility and support when working on not only their physical, but also their mental and really overall health.
