Diego, the head instructor, is a great guy who genuinely cares about each of his students. Another big plus is there are multiple black belts who train here and they are always willing to go above and beyond to share their knowledge. Whether you want to compete, or just do Jiu jitsu recreationally, there is something here for everyone. I think he even has kids classes. As a brand new student, walking into a BJJ school can be a bit intimidating. Diego and his students go out of their way to make you feel welcome and like you're part of the team from the moment you first step foot on the mat. I've checked out a few other gyms in the past and can't help like feeling the entire room gets that "fresh meat" vibe when a new student comes in. At Diego's school there is none of that. It is a completely positive place and everyone there helps each other improve. I'm completely addicted to BJJ now, and Diego & his team are directly responsible for that. Going to SAS is definitely one of the best decisions I've ever made. My BJJ game has improved tremendously in the short time I've been here and I have no doubts yours will too. I came in, dropped my ego at the door and was ready to learn Mauy Thai. Now I have never officially trained or done a martial art. I've kicked my punching bag at home for about 1.5 years, and got obsessed with working form and trying to learn new kicks. I was expecting my friend and I, who came along with me, to be learning basics. Such as proper form with low kicks, on a bag or something. Instead on day 1, we did a few drills with pairs and then free sparred for nearly the remainder. I asked the rules of the gym and they said no elbows, and can only knee in clinch to the chest. Okay I thought, and I had a few good partners. We were flowing, and they were supportive. Not striking with any steam whatsoever. Letting us both learn and be technical. Then had a dude who was making it a point he could punch me in the face. Multiple times. No head gear or mouthguards were handed out. This guy clearly could tell I wasn't ready to take face shots. He delivered them anyways. Himself having Mouthguard in, headgear on. I could feel the ego war about to happen, I removed myself from the mat and only worked with a few others I felt I could trust. As I had removed myself for a moment I was watching how my buddy was doing. He was sparring someone who easily had a better decade of training under him. I could see my friend trying to learn and take things slow at first. He threw a very slow, no-steam spinning side kick to his opponent, 10% power and 10% speed. I thought to myself "oh they are gonna tell him no spins." Instead the guy side steps a newbie. And launches one himself doing a jump spinning back kick, hitting my friend under his guard. At quadruple the power my friend threw it at. My friend winces and keeps his guard up, throwing back jabs, but not hard jabs. I could tell he was pulling his punches, not wantimg to even attempt to hurt his opponent. His opponent started to escalate the situation. The guy stayed working his body. No sorry, no ankowlegment of him hurting him. As i watched it play out more, I could tell he was trying to get him to drop his guard, to lead him into what you may ask? A spinning wheel kick thrown at about 50% power. Mind you we are untrained. No head or mouth gear. I know this was a messed up envoirmemt immediately after seeing that. As we were leaving they were gloating about how people canceled their memberships and how they were quitters. I contacted them and gave my concerns. My saftey was completely disregarded. These guys only want punching bags that are willing to pay 50$ to be there. Stay away! it's sad too because I bet the BJJ is quality!

It's not too far off from Heritage Hill Brewery, so you can do a two-for and visit both-- however the park is lovely and worth a visit on its own. There's an overlook near the entrance where you can get a glimpse of the waterfall. However, the falls are also within walking distance of the start of the trail. The hill is on a slant and there are steep stairs, so the view may not be accessible for those who have difficulty walking. However, it was so calming just to sit and watch and listening to the waterfall. The day I went, there were others out but the paths didn't feel claustrophobic. I took some time and walked through the woods. The trail I took was relatively short, I think about a half mile total. I appreciated that there was a marker at the start that let you know how long it was. I am by no means a regular hiker (hoping to change that one day!) but this trail wasn't exhausting and was quite serene. This is a great park with a great waterfall and is definitely worth checking out!

When I was able to put it into perspective I understood. This is an overall nice outdoor gathering area. That I am sure is used throughout the year for many things. While I was there, it was just a normal day. The square houses the Soldiers and Sailors Monument which was dedicated in 1911. By 1917 the canal was filled in and expanded the square. As the years go on there are renovations and additions to make the square more usable. The one section you should check out is the section that the Jerry Rescue monument is situated. This depicts William "Jerry" Henry, a recently freed slave being rescued from the nearby jail by townsfolk. This was in defiance of the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850. Breaking into the jail they helped Jerry to escape and make his was to Canada, and freedom.

What better place to do it than at a park. Especially one that has so much to offer. When I arrived I came at this park from the intersection of Madison & Ostrom. When I came here it was bit off putting to me as it was where the intersection was a bit wonky that allowed for vehicular to enter the park. So you needed to watch while you walking that no traffic was coming, or just walk about the grass, which is what I did. Being from out of town I had no idea what this park had to offer overall but I did do a lot of exploring which led me to a lot of different areas. I first just walked through the fields and along the tree lines. I backtracked a bit and stumbled upon the pool area. From there, I found the amphitheater and hung around there for a bit. After that, I found the football field and saw a lot of people using it for multiple reasons. From exercising, playing with their dogs, flying drones and many other things. I ended my time in the park at the rose garden. Roses were still coming into bloom, but I didn't mind that. I looked around at the different varieties of roses they had planted. I then sat on a bench for a few minutes to just take in this portion of the park. When I left, I was off towards Syracuse University campus. This park is enormous, and I am glad I was able to spend some time here.

It's a really nice, open park with lots of space to walk around. I do wish they had some sidewalks or something along the roads going up or down the hills, but that's one of the few issues I can think of. The park is maintained well, has a lovely rose garden (one of my friends volunteers here regularly, actually, which is how I found out about the park - they have a "Rose Day" in mid-June to celebrate, and I'm told that timing is mainly because that's when the roses are usually at their peak), and lots of fun features - like the amphitheater area, where my dog was especially interested in watching some folks who were preparing for a summer play. There's a pool area as well, tennis courts, concession area, and so on... and my pup especially seemed to love rolling down the hills just below the Thornden Park Water Tower (pictures included in this review, of course). It's worth noting that I *have* had a couple slightly sketchy experiences here... including one time being followed around by another park goer who seemed to be experiencing some mental health issues. As with anywhere, just be mindful of your surroundings.

Extremely overpriced, not worth even $80. The best instructions come from your peers, not your trainers. The guys that attend are dedicated and do their own research and that's why they're good. Like others have said the owner and Mike only care about money. It's a very uninviting atmosphere where they constantly hassle you about your payments if you're an hour late. Won't respond to any questions on social media although they ask for it to bug you about why you're not paying them money. One good trainer there is Dennis. read more

Been training here for over 8 years or so now. I have to say this is by far best school around! Top notch instructors all with a variety of skills sets. It is also a great size and clean facility. Everyone there treats you with respect and as a member of the "family" you will become. This place can be for an average joe working two jobs or someone looking to compete at a high level. Tai Kai is so much more than a place to work out and get in shape. Sure, Tai Kai offers excellent Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Kickboxing, Muay Thai and other classes... and it's filled with so many knowledgeable teachers and instructors. But more than that, it's a family, a home, a place to find encouragement and a place to find acceptance. I agree with everyone else. This gym is not worth the price. People are cool but the owner is not. Extremely unprofessional, lessons are repetitive and very amateur in all classes I attended. After 9 months we were still doing the same things. They make their money off of people signing up and going for a month or two then not coming again. Then they start their lessons over. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. read more

Tai Kai has a top notch group of instructors, and the school offers a wide variety of classes geared toward all age, skill, and physical abilities. It is a non threatening environment to learn and train in. Everyone is very welcoming and there is a real family feel to the facility. Do yourself a favor and check it out! Large facility to train, a high level of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu taught, and better still, a staff of professors and practitioners that are more than happy to help anyone on their personal BJJ journey. I do not train in other martial arts offered at Tai Kai, but from observation the same could be said for the other arts: high level, great environment to train. read more

There is one good thing about this gym. That is the other people that pay over $180 a month to attend. For comparison Greg Jackson charges $50 a month and they're the best MMA Gym on the planet. Ken is condescending and only cares about money. It is a gym full of salesmen. read more

Okay I thought, and I had a few good partners. We were flowing, and they were supportive. Not striking with any steam whatsoever. Letting us both learn and be technical. Then had a dude who was making it a point he could punch me in the face. Multiple times. No head gear or mouthguards were handed out. This guy clearly could tell I wasn't ready to take face shots. He delivered them anyways. Himself having Mouthguard in, headgear on. I could feel the ego war about to happen, I removed myself from the mat and only worked with a few others I felt I could trust. As I had removed myself for a moment I was watching how my buddy was doing. He was sparring someone who easily had a better decade of training under him. I could see my friend trying to learn and take things slow at first. He threw a very slow, no-steam spinning side kick to his opponent, 10% power and 10% speed. I thought to myself "oh they are gonna tell him no spins." Instead the guy side steps a newbie. And launches one himself doing a jump spinning back kick, hitting my friend under his guard. At quadruple the power my friend threw it at. My friend winces and keeps his guard up, throwing back jabs, but not hard jabs. I could tell he was pulling his punches, not wantimg to even attempt to hurt his opponent. His opponent started to escalate the situation. The guy stayed working his body. No sorry, no ankowlegment of him hurting him. As i watched it play out more, I could tell he was trying to get him to drop his guard, to lead him into what you may ask? A spinning wheel kick thrown at about 50% power. Mind you we are untrained. No head or mouth gear. I know this was a messed up envoirmemt immediately after seeing that. As we were leaving they were gloating about how people canceled their memberships and how they were quitters. I contacted them and gave my concerns. My saftey was completely disregarded. These guys only want punching bags that are willing to pay 50$ to be there. Stay away! it's sad too because I bet the BJJ is quality!

It's a great gym if you never plan on going to another gym. The owner has no SET price, he charges…read morebased on you much he dislikes you. Last time I was there, it was $20 a month for a new member, and if you left for a bit for a different gym, and come back, he'll charge you more, and that is why the 1 star. Other than that, it really is a great gym, it was my first love. It's really gritty like Pumping Iron (the movie), and you can get your workout done. The basement is also nice if you want to lift heavy. The times I went had little to no people, so that was a plus (if you just wanna get in and out). Also, I don't know what people consider "clean", but one of the reasons I love the place is because its "gritty", so don't expect shiny equipment. The owner is nice enough, just don't "cross" him by going to a different gym, and you'll be fine.

Staff make big deals out of small situations 1) the hot yoga is unbearable if u sit under the vent because she doesn't have directional vents in place. 2) tried to see why my partner couldn't access his account online and the Owner refused to help me......they had no problem when I set up our accounts and when i used his credit cards 3) owner seems unwilling to hear any type of constructive critism and even posted her belief on her FB page about not begging for acceptance from people isn't good.....listen to your client isn't begging it's called having interpersonal skills. 4) wouldn't let me come in class because they were centering but I had been in many classes the instructors were laughing during practice. The class rooms are often over packed and the parking is very limited and near impossible at times. No day time hours either D-
