I refilled a 1 gallon propane tank and was charged twice the posted price because of a minimum charge of $10. When I expressed my surprise the owner laughed and said it is on the sign outside. While standing there in full view of the large propane tank they use to fill from it was abundantly clear there was no such sign. He then pointed to a small sign behind him near the ceiling, half covered with merchandise that would only be visible to someone 5' tall or shorter because of all of the merch filling the space at head height right at the counter. How about just charging for what you sell!? This kind of BS is way too rampant and it's just wrong . If you have a minimum then actually put it on a sign at the damn pump or instruct the person doing the filling to inform each person before beginning to fill their tanks. read more

Husband went in to buy chips and a soda and they charged him for $6 worth of lotto online besides what he had purchased. He went back in to clear up what happened and the owner tried to say ohhh no this isn't your receipt. Husband insisted on checking the time and the receipt and the owner refused. SHADY!!!! The "Asian old lady worker or owner " at the gas station is super rude and disrespectful. I wasn't able to print a receipt at the pump since the machine ran out of paper, so went into the store to ask for a copy. The cashier printed a copy, but it was not the right one. I asked for the correct version, but she got annoyed and accused me of giving her the wrong pump #. The number I provided is correct. Then she started to question if I really pumped gas and complained that I should have printed it at the pump myself before telling me to come back after the weekend for a copy of the receipt. read more

It seems odd to write a review for a gas station but this place seriously has the nicest employees of any other gas station in Oakland. They are genuinely pleasant people. Energy gas is just a few blocks from macarthur's laurel district. energy is a large gas station. it doesn't seem as busy as quik stop across the ways. this station isn't one to linger at or visit in the evenings. gas drips: -credit cards taken at pump -cash price same as charge -propane gas sold here -large lots, people hanging around -35th street, very fast cross traffic -small convenience store on premises. read more

This is my neighborhood gas station, and unfortunately it is pretty ghetto. Make sure you pull up to a gas pump that has a workable handle you can click open to automate the flow of gas so you can then get back in your car. As of today, half the handles are broken, so those necessitate that you have to stand outside your car holding the handle the whole time the gas flows in-- that is not so safe in this area. They do have car washing services on the weekends that someone else praised in another review here. I haven't used that service. Peace! read more

Use this gas station about once each month. Price is very good compared to elsewhere in the city. Easy access getting off Hwy 580 at 35th Ave. Yes, you can save a few cents many days at the Quick Stop down the street, but that place is crazy and leaves me feeling less safe. Whereas Energy Gas feels safe, plus they have no extra charge for using a credit card. Good point is that Energy Gas has a very large area around the pumps so you don't feel crazy jammed up like at Quick Stop. I don't know much about the employees or the manager because I only use my credit car out at the pumps. My advice is to leave your wallet in the car and lock the door while you pump, just in case someone approaches you. Keeping only your credit card in your pocket. Just a safety factor. Thus far, over the last 10+ years, I have had zero bad experiences at this location. One last point. when exiting and trying to head up 35th to MacArthur, take your time to cross 35th. Even if you have to wait for a full minute or two... Don't rush it. Wait, wait, wait for a open space in traffic. That street is very dangerous with all the cross traffic. Also, I always us a surgical glove when handling the pump handles. Not bad advice with any gas station since you have no idea what the previous customer was doing with his hands. read more

If the gas isn't the cheapest here, look no further than across the street at Quikstop (usually busier). I agree with victor g. get your gas in the daytime from Q.S. or E.G.M, unless you are into shady, sketchy characters asking for money or eyeballing you the second you pull into the pump. read more

I have been coming to this place for years now. Not for the gas but for the propane refills and until recently the weekend hand carwash. The carwash was great and priced right but due to the drought and meddling city inspectors, it was shut down. So there goes 2 stars. But the real reason they are only getting one star, is that when I went to fill up my propane tank today, they put in 2.1 gallons. The price is $3.30 per gallon. When I went to pay, the cashier tells me it is a $10 minimum for propane. I had NEVER heard that before. She says there is a sign. I looked for the sign. Nowhere to be found. She says it must have gone away in the rain. I asked for her to give me back the difference of $3.07 and she said no. And I said that will be the last time I will be here. I have had a great experience with this station. They offer one of the best car wash values in the area. For less than $10, your car is hand washed and hand dried by a very nice crew. For another $3, they will vacuum and dust the inside, including the trunk, and dress the tires. The wash is only offered on Saturday and Sunday, from 9 to 3 or so. read more
