How I found this hidden gem was solely based on the luck I had today. I simply wanted to go on a hike where I would avoid other people. And this place is exactly that (or I picked the right day with very few hikers and bikers.) Cloudy Sunday afternoon, the temperature was in its upper 60's. When I got to the Ethel Harrold trailhead, there were only two other cars parked. And this is a very small trailhead (just so you know.) This Walker Ranch loop is a loop but it's QUITE lengthy. if you take the whole loop, it'll eventually take you to Eldorado State Park. I didn't go that far as I started late (past 2pm.) I took the right turn simply based on my instinct when the trail split on the way. If you take the right turn, you'll come to a very tiny (mini) cascade to your left. There is a good elevation gain so it's a great trail to get your cardio going. I occasionally jogged where the trail wasn't so steep. When I reached this vantage point where there was a bench, I made a u turn to come back to where I started. But the view at that vantage point was absolutely breathtaking. During this time (mid June), all kind of colorful wildflowers decorate both sides of the trail so you'll have ample opportunities for photo taking. I'd say it's beginner and family friendly especially the first mile or two. Since I didn't get to see the rest of the trail, I can't really speak for the rest of it, however. If it gets too difficult for you, you can always make a u turn.

It's worth the hike up for your kids to have experiences you won't be able to find anywhere else in the world with life long core memories that build good character. I HIGHLY recommend enrolling your kids here even if it's for one week day camp, or a focus group. I also LOVE that it's been operating for over 70 years by the same family running it today. You won't find anywhere else that has not only a turn key, organized, professional establishment but that's run by heart, soul, love for the outdoors, community, respect for one another, and tradition. It's also a great place to have your wedding or any special event!!

The owners Lynn and Mike are incredibly easy to work with. All the staff are well trained and very attentive to the children and help stretch their comfort zone in fun challenging activities. This year camp was cancelled due to COVID-19. As an alternative, CMR has been hosting single family activities to ensure social distancing. We took the opportunity to do this and we had a blast. As parents, we really didn't know much about how the kids spent their time on the ranch. Spending time up there made me feel like a kid again. The staff made the whole experience fun and easy. The measures that CMR are taking to reduce exposure to the virus are as good as any place I've seen. They sanitize every piece of equipment and touch point between each family and keep the flushies sparkling. Oh and hundreds of acres to spread out the guests. After several months of quarantine and more to come, CMR's 2020 family program was much needed. It's also worth mentioning that various special needs grants and scholarships will cover the family program.

They have GF clearly marked on the menu, I ordered items that needed no modification. I did not have a reservation as I was by myself both nights so I sat at the high top at the bar. This place seems visited regularly by the locals/regulars and I heard more than one state it was the best happy hour in the area. I ordered the same filet both nights, with a dinner salad to start. I loved the butter lettuce and the herb dressing, it does get soggy quick...be prepared it is not crisp. The steak was cooked how I ordered it, medium, both nights. The second night they did charge me a steak meal that came with spinach and mashed potato ( I did not order and did not want). I did try a bite of the mash and they needed some seasoning. I did not ask for a refund on the items I did not order. Overall, great place. Expect a bit slower service when seated in the bar area. Very nostalgic for the past and take a moment to look up at the unique ceiling fans.
