I had an absolutely horrible experience with Enterprise at this Enterprise - 586 US-22, Hillside Township, NJ 07205. On Saturday, September 28, at 6:39 PM, I reserved a van for a family trip with seven people. The reservation was confirmed last week, so I expected everything to go smoothly. However, the day before Thanksgiving, I was hit with a series of issues that left me and my family stranded and ruined our holiday. When I arrived, I was informed that I could not rent the vehicle because I was considered "high risk" due to a vague incident from 2021. This information was never communicated to me when I made the reservation or during the confirmation call. Why wasn't this flagged earlier? Instead, I was led to believe everything was set for my trip. To make matters worse, they refused to allow my spouse to take over the rental because I was the one who made the reservation, leaving us completely blocked from renting. Adding insult to injury, they also claimed they didn't have any vehicles available, which makes absolutely no sense since I reserved this van months in advance. Their excuses were vague, and the lack of accountability was infuriating. I was told corporate would call me, but they never did. Honestly, I believe they just said that to get rid of me. Enterprise directed me to their support page (https://www.enterprise.ca/en/help/contact.html) to resolve this issue. When I followed up, I was rerouted to risk management. I have been calling for weeks, yet not a single person has responded. This level of disregard is appalling. It's clear to me that Enterprise does not respect its customers because they are a billion-dollar corporation and believe they can get away with this kind of treatment. As a result, I couldn't secure a vehicle elsewhere because most places were either fully booked or outrageously expensive due to the holiday. This trip was a family reunion--the first time everyone was going to meet. We had family flying in from all over, and I had to make the heartbreaking call to let them know we couldn't make it. Instead of celebrating with my loved ones, I'm stuck in NYC on Thanksgiving with kids who are upset, a house in shambles, and no resolution in sight. This was an incredibly disappointing and unprofessional experience. Enterprise's lack of communication, poor handling of reservations, and vague reasoning for denying me the rental have ensured I will never use their services again. I plan to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau first thing Monday morning. Avoid this location at all costs if you value reliability and good customer service. read more

Incredibly professional service. We arrived to the Hillside Enterprise one hour early and they had the car ready for us right away! No lines at all. The girls working there are so friendly and sweet. No issues when it came to returning the car either. If you are flying into EWR I highly recommend this location over the onsite airport location... saved over $300 by going off site and it was only a $10 uber fee to get there. So worth it! read more

I was tempted to give this location a one-star rating. In the winter, no one was in the store while the store had "open" hours. The manager was the only one working, and he was dropping people off/picking people up. Took more than half an hour of waiting for him to come back, and then another 15 min to get my car reviewed. If not for the fact he said I could just drop the car off at the dealership instead of him driving me over there, this place would've been rated as "never again". read more

Great place. I rent here a few times a year, never really had a major issue. Just a few tips if renting here, I've had times that I walk in and I'm out of there in 5 minutes and there have been times I waited up to 45 minutes to get a car, in both cases I had a reservation. It can go either way. So be warned. Also, fully check the inside of the car, cup holders, steering wheel, back seats, I've rented at least three cars with people's leftovers and cup holders full of gooey mess. Not cool. Couldn't get to the rental...because RONNIE decided that he didn't need to inform me on the rental policy that I questioned...and decided to HANG UP ON ME after raising his voice and telling me that he could not transfer me to the reservations number. Which any person who ever worked in customer service knows...YOU CAN ALWAYS TRANSFER A CUSTOMER TO RESERVATIONS. Hopefully, Enterprise will realize that employees like Ronnie and the phone are bad matches. If I can give this location a negative I would. I have never in my life dealt with a manager so rude and to top it off she slammed the phone and hung up on me. We rented 2vans for a week. First the vans were not ready so we had to wait over an hour for them to clean it. Once we got the van there were fingernail clipping in the cup holder and a dirty sock in it. I was told by whoever it is that does the survey that they would credit us $125. One month later and many calls it still haven't been resolved. When I did call the location we rented it from, I must of gotten the winner of the year for the most rude and disrespectful Manager. Her name is Carla and do not rent from this location unless you want to have a dirty disgusting car and rude service. read more

Probably the worst experience ever. I was hit by someone and the autobody shop was kind enough to set up a rental service with this Enterprise. The man was really great who gave me the car but returning it was an utter nightmare! I got there at 3:05pm on Christmas Eve and not told what time they closed just that to be there for 3pm. I got there 5 minutes late because of traffic and the woman was so rude. She said "you need to leave we are closed" the manager came out and helped me and we worked everything out. They were going to process my refund the day after Christmas. I just called today to find out why my refund 3 days later has not been put in my account and it took 30 minutes for them to answer the phone. Then the woman gave me an attitude when she answered and told me they refunded it and it was not their problem. Needless to say, I will not be using this place again...ever. read more

Rented a car from Enterprise at the hillside location, new jersey through hotwire.com. Unfortunately they do not pick up from EWR airport. So had to take a cab there, which cost about $ 27. Aside from that, everything else about Enterprise hillside, was fantastic. Allen at the desk was the most wonderful, courteous, nicest gentleman i ve met and was a pleasure doing business with him. His manager Chris was extremely nice too. Wanted to commend these two guys for the good work they do, on the enterprise website, but seems their email contact is not working right now, so here is my thumbs up and 5 stars for these two guys. read more

I recently rented a car at the Hillside Location. I called the night before to confirm the hours to get picked up and what time they opened. Next day I called in the morning to get picked up but was told that the hotel I was staying at was outside their area. I explained I didn't know and I was told it was no problem the night before. They made an exception with no problems. The Customer Service from Mr. Gasin at that location was top notch. He was very professional, gave several options and we rented a larger vehicle. As a frequent traveler, it is professionals such as Mr. Gasin is the reason why I rent from Enterprise. Renting again from this specific location is a no brainer. Want great customer service? Terrible location! I had to deal with them when I got into an accident and insurance sent me to get a rental while my car was being repaired. They pressured me to sign up for the damage waiver and even after I canceled , when I returned the rental car they told me I still had a $94 balance. I informed I would pay in a few days but 2 days later they withdrew $50 from my account with no authorization from me , not even a phone call to ask if they can take that amount. When I called to confront, the manager Karla pretended she had no idea what I was talking about and said that it must have been corporate. I then called corporate and was told they don't have any billing information , that the branches do the billing so the manager straight out lied. I called back the branch and Karla continued lying and then threatened to send to collections even though it's been 3 days that I returned the car. Stay away from this branch, they will charge you with no authorization then lie about it. read more

I really had a great experience at this location last year. My car was totalled & the other persons' insurance covered a rental car from Enterprise for my use. I called their location to say I was coming that evening. It was very busy when I got there & it was near closing time. They made sure I left with a very nice SUV. I did have to wait a while for service but it was worth it. Wonderful customer service. I will use them again if the need ever arises...hopefully no more accidents!! read more

DON'T RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE! They will rob and cheat you without warning! They don't tell you the fees when you ask. They like to surprise you with huge fees after the fact without disclosing in advance, even after you call and ask so that you will not be surprised. This location charges exorbitant fees for not dropping off at the right location - AFTER they close and lock their doors and gate their property. Then they lie about it and blame it on the airport property, which doesn't charge ANY fee. These people are not honest and cannot be trusted. Enterprise cannot be trusted. This is the worst enterprise location I have ever gone to in my entire life, mind you I use enterprise very frequently when I travel. Because of my experience at this location I will never EVER use enterprise again. I was forced to rent a car because someone hit my personal car and their insurance paid for the rental, I purchased enterprises waiver fee which is around 22 dollars a day baize I figured my luck at that point wasn't good and I was only going to have the car for a week better to be safe than sorry. Once the body shop whom was fixing my vehicle let me know that it was going to be in the shop for 3 week k immediately went into that enterprise location to cancel the waiver fee and I said I would just pay for the days I had it on the car which was 4 days. they said ok no problem we will only barge you for the 4 days, well when I returned the car 3 weeks later they slap me with an 800 dollar bill and said I never cancelled the waiver. I told the manager to check the cameras and she said she was going to review it and she never did. She also stated she would contact me the next day to figure this out which she never did, mind you I tried to contact her for 3 days after that incident and she dodged me then she charged my credit card 800 dollars without any notification or explanation of how she tried to help me. Worst manager ever and the staff there is completely unprofessional. Don't waste your time going to this enterprise trust me. ... The issue was finally resolved and my money was returned to my credit card after I made a big deal about the issue and had to contact corporate office and after my credit card was overcharged and I had to pay fees on the credit card for being over my limit... read more

If i could give them 'No stars' I would! Terribly dissapointed. I rented a Nissan Sentra from here for one day upon recieving the vehicle the woman showing me around the car even noticed how dirty it was. When we did the round about check I started pointing out spot to her and she shrugged them off by saying it was a "bad wash job" and one spot she was able to rub off so i took her word for it WORST MISTAKE EVER. Not only did i recieve a DIRTY white vehicle but it had suspect spot on it that was hard to tell if it was a mark or dirt. As i said I swiftly looked around with her and said ok and initialed. Reluctantly I decided to just use my insurance and not go thru the 22.99 a day because I felt there was no need. When I go to bring it back today the man notices a tiny dent then charges me my $500 deductible. I am 100% sure nothing happened to this vehicle while in my possession and this was already there. The man was rude and didnt want to listen to a word i had to say and just charged my car. Not only did I have to drive in a dirty vehcile during my time with it but I got charged $500 for something I didnt do. WORD TO THE WISE DO NOT RENT FROM THEM! So I just walked into Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Hillside, NJ and I can't believe my experience. Furthermore, I can't believe that this is the type of person that works for Enterprise now. My friends, my family, and myself, have rented from this branch along with many other branches of Enterprise in the Union County/Essex County area for years. I always tell people to choose Enterprise and anyone who knows me can confirm that. In fact, I was once an intern for this this company so I know all about its customer service policies and that is why I always recommend them. As a customer in recent years, I have been let down time and time again but I have continued to rent from them because I am loyal. This morning, however, was more than a customer service failure, it was a human failure. This morning, I was not a customer - I was a member of the community who walked in and asked if I could have windshield wiper fluid. I was driving on Route 22 E during this snow storm and suddenly ran out of wiper fluid, since I could not see much I didn't realize I had just passed a gas station. To be clear, anyone with $4 bucks in their pocket can afford wiper fluid so it wasn't about me not being able to afford it or not "wanting" to buy it or being lazy, I just needed help and was admittedly desperate. As a former employee, I knew they kept wiper fluid there and simply asked for some and offered to PAY for it if necessary. RODNEY TORRES, the employee who took my request asked if my car was a rental, I said no, and he therefore sarcastically and rudely responded NO. He said they cannot "give me wiper fluid." I responded and said with a baffled tone "so I can't see out of my car if I crash you are okay with that?" He then said with a disgusting tone something along the lines of "You can walk yourself back over to that gas station and buy yourself some because we pay for it you can buy your own." Keep in mind I offered to PAY for the one they had if I could, but lets be honest its wiper fluid, what is the big deal if it can help someone be safe, someone who was right there in front of you asking for a hand. Like I said before, I passed a gas station and didn't notice it, obviously if I saw it I would have just gone there. I guess I thought I would find kindness from enterprise employees. It wasn't about money it was about principle and clearly for him it was more important to be cruel than to be kind in that moment. He wasn't even able to be kind enough to at least kindly answer the question. Even if their policy obligates him to say no to non-customers, why not say that to me kindly. He is clearly a disgruntled employee and I was clearly at the wrong place at the wrong time and was the recipient of his wrath. For me, the point is that, whether I am customer in that moment or not is irrelevant. I am a person asking for help and could have been a customer one day. what if this was my first experience with enterprise? This person who works for this company outright says no? What kind of society do we live in where a grown man cannot help a young girl out in a situation like this? I did not ask him to shine my shoes or anything that would deserve that kind of response, I asked for wiper fluid. I was not a customer today but I have been and I would have been again and again if it were not for Mr. Torres. In fact I was planning a trip to upstate NY this weekend and needed to rent an SUV, if I go, it certainly wont be an enterprise rental. I will never recommend Enterprise to anyone again, my mother rents 8 times a year, every year to move my sisters in and out of their dorms, well NO MORE. My aunts, my friends my cousins, they travel constantly and rent from enterprise due to my recommendation, well NO MORE. This is not the first time Enterprise has let me down but it WILL be the LAST. Anyone who reads this can make their own decision on whether to rent from them or not, just beware, you may not have an optimal experience because as both a paying and non-paying customer I've been slighted. read more
