It was within walking distance of Joe's on Jolly, and there is a Starbucks directly in front of the property. The filets were crispy and tasty, but not genuine English fish & chips. Our server was young and inexperienced (didn't know what a pale ale or IPA was), but was very attentive and cheerful. An older gentleman, who may have been the bartender, came to our table and gave us an oral history of the building, its owners and various quirks. The only drawback was all the stairs. It's not ADA accessible getting to and from the pub, where we had our reservations. There was a full flight of stairs to go down from the main floor. It was recommended that we leave through the back door to avoid the stair case. Outside, on the terrace, there were some low steps and no handrail to get to the path leading to the parking lot. No one using a wheelchair or walker can access the pub. The building itself, the decor, and outside grounds are beautiful. The gardens are lovely.

Diane's Inn fit right in with the eclectic, historic, artsy downtown Lansing vibe. Our reservation process was easy and personal. Diane was responsive and gathered information about the nature of our visit and our preferences. She was clearly invested in making our experience a positive one. We found her to be pleasant and personable throughout our stay. Diana is so knowledgeable about downtown Lansing and very active in the community that committed to preserving its history and charm. We met our friends for a two-day, one-night social gathering. It was the perfect early September weather for biking the Lansing River Trail and other connector trails. The B&B is very accessible to the trails. Though we didn't have much time to explore the downtown area, it is also walking distance from the capitol, Old Town and REO Town. Fabulous location. The neighborhood is historic and interesting. Seems like a great place for walking. Our rooms were both aesthetically interesting and comfortable. The beds were firm and the bedding was soft. Our bathrooms were spic and span clean with all the expected amenities. The bathroom in the main house, pink room contained a very small shower that would not be comfortable for tall visitors. Our bathroom was outside our room, but private. This arrangement might not be for everyone. The many decorations and pillows were charming yet might also be the source of dust so if you are sensitive, these rooms might not be your most comfortable choice. The outdoor spaces are absolutely lovely. The koi pond is clearly the highlight. Diane designed it and takes great pride in its maintenance. There are garden chairs available to relax and unwind. Beautiful spaces for good weather days. One drawback was the available indoor spaces for small groups to gather and socialize. Outside our bedrooms, it didn't feel convenient to lounge in other common area spaces in the home. Diane is a collector and had many wonderful stories to share about her pictures, quilts, linens, paintings, China and many, many other tchotchkies in her home. For collectors, bargain-hunters, repurposing buffs, and antique enthusiasts, Diane's home would be a fascinating adventure. For those travelers who prefer a more conventional, spartan, spacious environment, it will likely feel cramped and cluttered. The bedrooms are located on the second floor. Stair casing is narrow, lighting isn't the best and hand rails are absent on parts. For guests with mobility issues, these accommodations may not be suitable. We were served a delicious, hearty breakfast of a veggie sausage bake, blueberry muffin, toast, juice and fresh fruit. Coffee was wonderful. The dining room table was a work of art with the best china and napkins. We left for a day of biking quite full. For our open-minded, adventuresome spirits, the Cozy Koi was a fun experience. We would return and would like to try one of the rooms in the yellow house with a balcony for relaxing. This B&B seems quite fitting with the vibe of downtown Lansing.

You have access to the whole house, basically. Kitchen, living room, and a 2-person balcony, along with your individual room that has a bathroom and kitchenette, but no TV. I don't care about that at all, but I can see how others would. There is a TV available in the communal living room. We stayed in the Garden Room, which is very economical, but has a rather old school bathroom and vibe. We were perfectly happy as it was clean and welcoming with windows that open to allow great ventilation. Next time, I think we'd stay in the room with the balcony and updated bathroom, it was very nice looking. You'd have to share the balcony if someone was staying in the room next door, but it's perfect for friends or family staying together. I think it would be really fun to rent out the whole house. The best feature of our room was the kitchenette which is fully stocked with pots, pans, plates, cups, a kettle, etc. If I had to stay in Lansing for work for a few days, I'd definitely grocery shop and cook. There is a lovely separate dining area with a big window. Since you have access to the living room, you could conceivably have people over, even. Breakfast was at 8:30 with a slightly flexible time depending on what time you request the day before. Diane made this delicious baked egg dish with cheese and hash browns that was fluffy and savory and perfect. She served it with fresh fruit, homemade warm chocolate banana bread, ham and turkey bacon since we asked for it. So considerate. Great coffee, juice, and conversation around a family style table with your housemates. Different. Cool. Diane is great at facilitating conversation. Parking can be a bit of a challenge during peak periods when the valets get busy, but I've found that they are more than happy to give you your keys and point you to your car down the block if the wait is too long. The rooms are simply gorgeous, with so many little details like the local zip codes on the bureau. It really feels like someone who knows East Lansing carefully curated each piece for the rooms. There is a great restaurant and coffee shop on site and literally everything you could want within a short walk in downtown EL, including a Biggby Coffee next door. The overall value is extraordinary - for comparison, pricing is comparable or less than the Hampton Inn five minutes away but a FAR more stylish and upscale experience.

If you're on the road near Grand Ledge and need a clean bathroom or a quick snack, I'd definitely recommend stopping at Grand Ledge Rest Area 825!

So of course, we stopped and used the bathroom and the dog was able to use the dog run plus get some fresh cold water. Pulling in, it looks like all the other rest stops in Michigan that I've been to, so nothing different here. But, I will say, this one was really clean and pretty! Plenty of flowers throughout, freshly cut grass and no garbage from what I could see. The bathrooms here are in pretty good shape, and they have a few vending machines in the lobby area if you need something to drink or snack on. What I really liked has they even had a coffee machine. Nice! Also, there's plenty of picnic tables and some charcoal bbqs if you need to stay for longer and make something to eat while on the road. They have courtesy dog runs as well if your pets need to get out and stretch their legs as well. Overall, a nice clean pit stop. Easy in, easy out.

As I travel along westbound I-69 (yes, I realize that odd-numbered interstates run north and…read moresouth), this rest area is one of my favorites. Located just before you get to the Lansing area, it makes for perfect timing after traveling a ways from the Canadian border. The building is maintained to impeccable standards. It is newer and laid out well. Refreshments are available in the vending machines inside the building at either end. With ample parking on both sides of the building, easy access is afforded for all who stop. A word of warning to those who utilize the big-rig lot - as with most rest areas in the state, it fills up during the evening hours and you might find yourself scrambling to park along the sides. It is not unusual to see trucks stretched out along the exit and entrance ramps here. A great stop that I make here often.
