I had an absolutely wonderful haircut with Allan. It's always scary going to a new place and getting a "new" hairstyle. The place is really nice. Also a plus that there's a wonderful coffee shop right there. They're located on a cute little walk through off the Main Street with plenty parking out back. The only reason I rated enV 3 stars (and really wanted to make it a 1) was the fact that a political discussion was going on about Brett Kavanaugh's accuser. They were obviously finding things wrong with the accuser and I began to shake. I quietly walked over and asked them to please stop the discussion as I was upset by it. I come to a salon to relax and escape, especially when I'm paying for the experience ($65 for a cut and blow). The beautician started explaining. I really didn't want to hear and get into a discussion about it. I wanted to get back to my hairdresser. After the haircut I was checking out. I apologized to her if I caused any uncomfortable feelings because it wasn't my intention. The hairdresser explained that she is the owner and began defending herself again. I told her a personal story and tried to explain. I then told her some of my concerns and she said there's another side. Maybe there is but I Don't Want to go to a salon and feel uncomfortable. I stopped going to a dancing studio because the owner kept putting what I believed down. She made others feel uncomfortable. She was not considerate. Now that I found out that she's the owner, I'm undecided about what to do. I don't think this is a good way to run a business and I don't believe I was treated well by the owner. I would have liked it if she simply said, "I'm sorry you were uncomfortable. We should watch political talk here." Instead I felt again, worse. I liked Allan. I had a wonderful haircut and we'll see. read more

Salon EnV is a very clean, upscale salon. My stylist, Roxanne, is fabulous and is a whizz with short fine hair. I'd reccomend her without hesitation. I'm not keen on their Covid changes. Firstly, I'm a front line clinician and cannot have services unless I quarantine for 2 weeks. This is discrimination as I work in very high level PPE and am safer to be around than the general public. Secondly, while everyone is wearing a mask, the chairs are closer together than 6 feet and people waiting for services are waiting inside. This creates unnecessarily crowded conditions. Finally, there is no way to socially distance in the pay area and there were 3 of us waiting to pay. They are doing better than some but there is still a great deal of room for improvement. EnV took in my ratty mane and made the color flow, covered all the gray, added life back into it with dimensional color and showed me that my fine, limp hair could have blond after all. Erica did an incredible job with a Vitamin C treatment before color and then nourishing the hair as the process went along. read more

I wanted to take the time to give enV Salon Color bar a fantastic shout out. I have been coming here for over 3 years and truly feel at home. Erica is my stylist and part owner of enV. She is very professional, talented, caring and listens to what I need and look for when I get bored with my hair. I have moved a lot over the last few decades and I can say she is the best hairstylist I have ever had. Now let's talk about the atmosphere and staff of enV....everyone treats me like family and has from time to time shared their drinks and food when I forget to eat before my appointment. In short, this is a nice salon, but: 1) be careful about who you book with and 2) always request an appointment confirmation in writing, email, etc. I had a consultation prior to my appointment (which I very much appreciated!) and was under the impression that my stylist and I were both on the same page as far as what I was looking for. However, during my actual appointment, my stylist never asked to see pictures and kept telling me they "got it"...fast forward to the end of the service and I ended up with a color that was much more electric and less subtle than what I was hoping for. To make matters worse, I called back to try to get an appointment to remedy the situation and ended up having a miscommunication about the date and time; fortunately, I was able to book quickly at my old standby salon (that I will be returning to exclusively from now on). Bottom line, DO give enV a try if you're in the area; it's a cozy, clean place that has potential...but proceed with caution. read more

Wow! I am so glad I found this place. They fixed what I thought was un fixable. Make sure to check out my before and after photos. My hair hasn't look or felt so good in years! I decided to give this salon a try after reading good reviews here on yelp. I went on there website and made appointment for the next day. I got Erica as my stylist. I was very nervous about getting my hair cut and colored. I use to have beautiful long thick brown hair. But I went to a salon over a year ago and started having them dye it platinum blonde on top and dark brown on the bottom. One day all my blonde hair started to fall out about 2-3 inches from the root. I was to embarrassed to ever go back to the previous salon. So I just let it grow and kept the odd color for almost a year. Well today I went into the salon and they got me right in the chair. I explained everything to Erica and she said not to worry that she could fix it. Some of my hair was very long, other parts very short. It was blonde in some parts, brown, and black. A mess and it looked horrible. I would only wear it up. Erica cut some off and colored my hair. She even dyed my eyebrows which look absolutely fabulous! They are normally very light and I have dark hair. What a difference. Than she cut my hair and blended the different lengths. Than she styled it exactly like I would. She was a pleasure to talk to and there was another woman with short blonde hair who washed my hair who was very sweet! My hair looks absolutely fabulous! It's a bit shorter than I wanted but my hair was dead and she did what she had to make it look great. I didn't stop there! I got my eyebrows done by Cary and they look great! I am extremely happy with everything and will be back in a few weeks. read more

Absolutely unacceptable! I made an appointment 3 or 4 weeks ago and today they called me 1.5 h before my appointment that Erika (owner) is running behind and can't do my hair today! If sometime next week would work. I don't have any other day and I planned in this! I asked them to cancel someone else because they already had made two appointments out of one for my daughter and actually charged twice for the haircut that was done only half before the coloring, it was just to be finished up (3 weeks later!!) when she had time again to do it. We will never go there again! This kind of arrogant customer service for that amount of money is just ridiculous. I would not recommend going there. If you want to go there, be prepared to be called on the day of your appointment and to be cancelled just like that. Do NOT go there. That's my recommendation. read more

Incredibly happy I found Env! I'm always a stress case when it comes to making sure I have a great colorist. While it's hidden away, Env's location creates an experience for me. It feels cozy and tranquil and provides a bit of respite from the crazy life of being a mom. Carie never disappoints and is honest with me which I appreciate. When I wanted to chop off all my hair in hopes of looking like Sophia Bush, Carie and I discussed the pros and cons of the look and were able to go for a style that looked cute, was shorter than what i currently had but still functional and able to pull back into a ponytail- an essential concept for any mom with a 10 month old! Allen is fantastic! He spent half of his day with me getting black dye out of my hair and bringing it to a pretty dark brown with reddish lowlights. It looks so much better and I am so happy with the outcome. It wasn't cheap, but I'm willing to pay the price for a job done right the first time. After a career of haircuts in the military that made me look like a Q-Tip on a weekly basis, I was a bit conditioned to $6 cuts where I did not have to say much about what I wanted. I tried some chain salons and ended up frustrated about what a hair cut can cost once you wander away from a military base. Then I was introduced to enV. My first experience at enV was picking up my wife from an appointment. She was still under the scissors when I walked in so I figured I would head over to the waiting area to check out a Sports Illustrated. Within seconds I was greeted and asked if I wanted a beer. Hell yes I want a beer. This prompted me to make an appointment. Now nearly a year later, I look forward to my visits to enV. The price is definitely more than $6 - but what a relaxing experience enV creates. It starts with a beer, moves onto a shampoo/massage and ends with a haircut where I do not have to say a word about what I want. For me a trip to get my hair cut could not be any better. read more

I went to this salon after getting desperate for a local hairdresser that wasn't going to turn me into a little boy, a librarian, or Mary Tyler Moore. Well, Hayley (I hope I spelled that right), my hairdresser, did none of those things. I can finally say that I have a hairstylist whose work doesn't make small children question my gender, my occupation, or my taste in haircuts. She made my concept happen, while gently correcting the delusions I had about what my hair would do. I didn't feel belittled or put down, by the way; I was enlightened. The proverbial lightbulb clicked on. And then I got very annoyed that none of the other hairdressers that have worked on my hair had ever said anything specific about *why* they couldn't make the cut I wanted work. (One of them was a family friend, so perhaps she thought I'd be hurt by it, but the rest don't have an excuse.) As for the cut itself, it's a major departure from the 'do I've sported for the last... uh, for a long time, and it turned out brilliantly. Hayley told me how to recreate it at home, and what tools I'd need (if you don't count the blowdryer, a round brush is all I need -- she didn't try to sell me anything). She also broke out a bottle of SLS-free shampoo to use on me, and didn't try to push any products, either. My first day at work after the haircut saw me getting showered with compliments to the point where I was getting a little nervous. Great job. Will definitely return. read more

After having visited enV every 6 weeks for the past, almost, two years, I've just made the determination to not go back here. My last few appointments had been canceled at the last minute and the options provided to me, to return, were less that satisfactory. I have an extremely demanding job and making changes to my schedule last minute doesn't generally work out. Additionally, the last time I was there I was not seen to even 10-12 mins after my appointment time. To clarify, I got to the salon 15 mins before my appointment, checked in, and was told that my hairstylist was finishing up and would be with me soon. Well, 30 mins later, after seeing everyone ahead of me acknowledged and me ignored, I walked out of there and won't be going back. Given the time and money, I spend at enV, it didn't make sense for me to keep coming back if there service was going to be poor. read more

My sister and I really wanted to get a last minute haircut so we called enV salon with our fingers crossed, hoping that they could take us last minute. We were pretty lucky and they scheduled us immediately for both of us with Justine! As soon as we came in, we got checked in and were asked if we wanted anything to drink. I sat in the chair first and showed Justine pictures of the haircut that I wanted. Unlike other hairdressers, she asked me a million questions (which is a good thing!) before she got started. One thing that I really appreciated was that she showed me how much she was going to cut off and if that was okay...something that most other hairdressers don't do! Once she cut off the amount of length she had mentioned, she took off my cape and asked me if I liked it or need it shorter. After that she finished up my haircut and gave me a great blowout. My sister had the exact same experience as I did so neither of us had any complaints. Will definitely be back to see her! read more

I recently moved to RTP area from WA State and needed to find a Goldwell Color Salon and stylist. I googled near by Salons and Env Salon Color Bar seemed like a good choice. I read the Bios of the stylist and was really impressed by Erica's credentials as well as experience overall. I arrived to my appt. on time(had trouble finding the sign tho) and was pleasantly impressed by the layout of the Salon as well as the cute boutique feel of the shops surrounding it! After my quick consult and my input to what I would like and what I had been doing(I brought my formulas for Goldwell color) Erica, added her insight and suggestions. I was completely open to her suggestions and expertise as well. I felt comfortable that she understood and was capable of giving me the highlights I wanted. Erica was quick and confident and gave me a great shampoo! When the towel was removed I was in love with the tone and placement of the highlights and low lights...even while it was still wet! She nailed it! I'm super picky about my highlights in the front/sides of my face as they frame everything...she did it perfect! I had not had my hair done for almost 4 months since my move and I was bleached out from the summer sun and had 2 inches of roots. She gave me a warm tone and still gave me the pieces of highlights to showcase the blonde I love so much. I'm very happy I found this lil gem in Apex! I set up my next appt. before I left the salon . I have gone to see Tracy twice now, and I will be scheduling my third appointment very soon! I think it can be hard to find a stylist who completely understands how you want your hair cut and colored on the very first appointment, but Tracy did! On both of my visits, Tracy seemed to understand exactly what I was looking for and executed it flawlessly. She helped me correct a very bad color job to one that exactly matched what I had been looking for all along. I was also very impressed to find that from the first appointment to the second one (about 7 weeks apart), that she remembered EXACTLY what she had done to my hair the first time around. Definitely will be sticking with Tracy at enV for a long time! As for prices, I've seen a lot of reviews saying enV is pricey, but I would say it's not outrageous and you get what you pay for. read more

A friend and I followed Alan when he moved from another Salon to EnV. Wonderful building, easy parking out back, great historic downtown area. Better yet, the salon is staffed by very friendly, efficient, and talented people. I love seeing what Alan has done with the person before me every time I come in - it always looks good. I have very thick, very straight, greying hair and he manages to cut and style it in a way that makes me look good. Yes, even with keeping the grey. I should keep his cards with me because I get compliments all the time. He also cuts it in such a way that I can go a much longer time between cuts without it looking like a bush. That's nice on my budget. This place is the one splurge I allow myself because an excellent haircut/style is worth the cost! read more

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this salon, AND LOVE, LOVE, LOVE BRITTANY!!! I moved here about a year ago and tried a few different salons in the area.... they were ok, but I didn't LOVE them. Finally, after driving/walking by Env Salon too many times to count, I decided to check them out. I made my first appointment with Brittany in February and have been seeing her for cuts, colors and highlights ever since (even today as a matter of fact). Brittany is fun and personable, and I always look forward to going to see her. While there is a "getting to know you" period, where you and your stylist figure each other out, I can tell you that this girl goes out of her way to make sure that you are happy when you leave. I even went back a day or so after my first appointment just because "something" didn't look /feel right, she gladly fixed it and I again, left happy. I find the post from 5/29/15 to be laughable, and from looking at all of the reviews this person has left for others, she never seems to be happy with any service she gets. Brittany knows plenty about cutting hair, knows plenty about color and styling it. I can't let someone try and ruin a girls career. Please do not let one persons review taint your thoughts of going to this salon and making an appointment with Brittany or any of the other stylists. read more

Last week I got my hair cut by Erica and was very happy with the results. 2 of my friends had gotten cute haircuts from her, so I thought I would give her a try. For the past year I have been bouncing around to different salons, trying to find someone competent. I was getting SO frustrated because the last few times I got my haircut, I even had photos showing how I wanted my hair cut or how I wanted to grow my hair out to, and even with those, the stylists screwed my hair up. Well I went in and showed Erica some photos of how I want to grow my hair out to. She said my hair was too short (which I already knew) and said she could do a shorter version of that hairstyle. New to the area and booked here for a partial foil. I see a stylist every six weeks, and I was looking for a spot to become my NC hair go-to. This will not be the place. My stylist seemed nice enough, but in more than two hours, she barely spoke with me and made no attempt to engage. I was also charged $30 to dry my hair! They called it an "a la carte blow out." I understand if I just went in for a blow out, that would cost $$. But I was spending a good amount on services. Seems like a crazy money-grab when a client is paying at least $100 for other services. So the expectation is that people leave the salon with wet hair unless you want to pay to get your hair dried. And if I'm paying that much to get my hair dried, it would have been nice to get a nice scalp massage, but it was just a so-so wash. read more

So I love this salon... I've been here many times and always, ALWAYS love my new haircut or color. Today I called and scheduled a bang trim, and the lady I spoke to said they had time for me at 1:15. I show up at 1:15, and they let me know my stylist was still working on her client. Which is totally fine, I normally have to wait 5-10 minutes. I waited until 1:25, and then my stylist came and told me she didn't have time for me. She asked me when I scheduled, and I told her today. She kind of made me feel like it was my fault because I scheduled last minute.. but my thinking is, I was told there was time for me. I would've understood if I called to schedule and they said no, but I was told yes and given a time. I was disappointed, since I had just drove on my lunch break and skipped lunch to get this done. She said she would try and see if she could get someone else to do it, but eventually came back and said they didn't have time for me today. Just disappointing and lack of organization on their part. The overall manner and way it was taken care of left me feeling unimportant. It just felt like, "oh well... sorry." I never leave bad reviews, but I'm pretty bummed and was really looking forward to my haircut. read more

The owners do not treat employees well! They are not good with people at all. One owner is so so and the other is awful! The salon itself is nice and clean. My issue was with the stylist. I brought my 12 year old daughter in for a haircut. I introduced my daughter to the stylist since she did not introduce herself. I explained to her exactly what my daughter wanted (she's shy) and then instructed my daughter to speak to the stylist directly to communicate anything else. I returned to the waiting area ..a bench and one chair. My daughter came up to where I was waiting with the sad eyes. I could see that the stylist did what she thought was best instead of what I asked -which she admitted too. She said "so decided..." I was very specific, if the stylist had a suggestion, she should have spoken to me (yes, I checked to see if she said anything to my daughter). I was very disappointed as it seems that some hair stylists do exactly what they want regardless of what is asked. I would have been open to suggestions given that she is the expert but she did not communicate at all with either of us. It was a 55$ haircut (which I also wasn't told ) and I was quoted 125-150$ for a purple streak. The hairstyle is cute but I felt it was or is too old for her and it also requires heated styling tools that far exceed my daughter's skill set. Worse yet, it will be months before this haircut grows out and can be done the way she wanted it in the first place. I did not confront the stylist as it would have just made my daughter self conscious and that's the last thing you want for your tween daughter. I was very excited about trying this salon and then very disappointed...maybe you will have better luck than I did, I will not be returning. read more

The only reason I'm not giving one star is because of service. I always feel very welcome here and I feel my business is very appreciated. But, let me detail my horror story. In summer I came here looking to get a lot of length off, bangs, and dye my hair gray The first time, I achieved this. My hair was a little ashy blonde, but it still looked good. I went a second time, and this time the color was even deeper and I loved it so much. Then began the horror. The third time, halfway through dying it, my hairstylist said "I made it a little darker than normal," which I literally had not asked for. She decided on her own accord to make it darker. So, it was black when I left. Then, as I started washing my hair, it started to come out BLUE. I had never ever mentioned the word BLUE to my hairstylist and I was walking around with BLUE HAIR. First mistake. I went back, thinking that this was just an honest mistake and that I would get the color I actually wanted. I said "Don't dye my hair blue." Then, halfway through dying it AGAIN, she told me to lighten my bangs now we would have to bleach them. WHAT THE *#%"? Again, NEVER asked her to make it darker. I came out with BLACK HAIR AND NOW MY HAIR IS BLUE AGAIN. I hate this place with every fiber of my being. I will never, EVER be back and will NEVER recommend enV to a friend. STAY FAR AWAY IF YOU VALUE YOUR HAIR. read more

I recently moved back in the area and was looking for a new change in my hair. I found myself with an appointment with Cristina. I wanted to try color and not just any color but PINK! I was a little nervous so we started off with some peekaboo pink. I loved the experience so much that I went back and she made my hair look like a masterpiece of fun. I get so many compliments about the colors and everyone asks me where I got it done. I can't recommend her enough because she listens and helps me find the best thing for my hair/vision. I recently visited this salon after my stylist relocated here. I have gone to Somar for years to style my hair. She is a very warm, energetic and knowledgeable person that I consider a friend. When she relocated to enV from a local chain of hair salons I was a bit bummed because I would have to make a further drive to see her. But once I arrived at this location I felt the new location was well worth the drive. EnV is in a historic building in the middle of downtown Apex. If you have not visited downtown Apex you are missing out on a true gem. I had a hard time spotting enV at first due to permits from the historical society a sign had not yet been posted on the outside of the building that it was located in. Though this was a tad frustrating I got to walk through several of the buildings and locally owned shops. I got a great birthday gift from a local gift shop while I was searching for enV. Back to my experience at enV: The salon is very modern in a charming historical building. All of Somar's coworkers were very friendly and added to my wonderful experience. The products they use at enV are all natural and lack a lot of chemicals in traditional hair products. Highly recommend this facility to anyone looking for a longtime salon and a very personable staff! read more

Writing this review about 6 months late - so here it goes. I am a 20 year old from Austin, Texas who has been seeing the same stylist for the past 4 years. I am a bit OCD when it comes to haircuts and have found it hard to find someone who can really cut a man's hair with precision (meaning they don't just whip out the clippers and go to town). Well, this past summer I did an internship in the Research Triangle Park area and found myself without a stylist in a state I'd never been to. I let my hair grow as long as I could before I couldn't make it look professional anymore. Finally, I shuffled through pages of salons all around the RTP/Raleigh area to find an upscale, highly rated studio whose pricing matched what I was paying back home ($25-$30). Low and behold, I found this place. It was a bit of a drive during rush hour, but I finally made it to my appointment one day after work and ran in to see what the hype was all about. I was scheduled to meet with Melissa (I'm not sure if I have her name right, but the gal who cut my hair was extremely pregnant and from NJ with a pretty thick accent). She was very professional, took me over to get shampooed and put my in the chair. As I was sitting there trying to describe how I wanted it cut, I realized that after 4 years of seeing the same person, I don't really know what to say. She quickly saw where I was going and started asking the questions. During the cut, she kept me entertained and made me laugh several times. After wards, she trimmed the eyebrows and left my sideburns like I asked. By far the best cut and experience I've ever had and needless to say, I left impressed. read more
