My experience at this salon was beyond horrible.
I walked into this very busy salon for a 1pm appointment. Since I was new to this salon, I was given to whichever stylist was available. Anastasia was my hairdresser, although I wouldn't have known that had I not looked at the business card at her station because she never formally introduced herself to me. I told her that I wanted color, a trim and blow out. She never however asked me my color history which bothered me, but and once I picked a color she started working. I noticed that she was very sloppy, having gotten a glob of dye under my chin, which I had to ask her to remove before any stain set in. She never put any cloth or Vaseline on my hairline to prevent staining, and after finishing just walked away saying she would be back in 20 minutes. Nobody ever offered me a magazine or water, very unprofessional. While waiting, a hair dryer being used by a stylist at the station next to me randomly exploded! Meaning they don't clean the hair and dust out of they're tools, disgusting.
I was brought to the sink for the rinse which was actually painful. The girl was scrubbing my hairline to within an inch of its life, trying mostly unsuccessfully to remove the deep brownish/red staining all along my hairline. I went back to Anastasia for the cut and blow out, which was less than stellar. She zipped through the cut, missing a few sections and left some pieces underneath slightly frizzy and not completely blown out.
After paying $150 in total I left. I realized after getting home and looking in the mirror that a huge area on the right side of my face had been deeply stained and left that way. I've colored my own hair at home several times never leaving that much staining; and I'm not a "professional". I scrubbed with soap and warm water, baby oil and even toothpaste (which was a solution I found online) and nail polish remover. After about 30 min I knew this was bad, and marched back to the salon demanding to speak to an owner or manager. I was approached my a snotty blond who proceeded to tell me she "didn't see any dye, that what I was looking at was my sideburns". So on top of making me seem like a crazy person who sees things, I was also made to feel embarrassed about sideburns that I don't have. Then out of nowhere Anastasia grabs my upper left arm, turns me around and asks me what my problem was. She played dumb too which didn't surprise me, but the grabbing of my arm was crossing the line.
After throwing around a few f bombs, and letting EVERYONE in that salon know that they botched the job, I was asked to leave. I gave the snotty blond the finger and left in a blaze of glory...
I've been to upscale Manhattan salons before and have always been satisfied with the results, but being on a tighter budget these days I thought I would try a neighborhood joint. Huge mistake. I'll skimp on other areas from now on, because my hair is worth the extra money. If you live in Astoria, and are thinking of trying this place out, GO THERE ARE YOUR OWN RISK!!! read more
