I came in for a wash, cut, and blow dry with Isabel after another salon canceled last minute. While I appreciated being squeezed in, this is clearly a high-volume chop shop -- clients were in and out within 10-15 minutes. I have long hair. The wash was bare minimum (I had to brush it myself), the cut was a rushed straight-across trim, and when a small knot couldn't be removed, that section was simply cut shorter. The blow dry was almost nonexistent and only done after I insisted; it wasn't fully dried and was finished with a flat iron. The entire service took about 20 minutes and cost $90. These prices might make sense in LIC or Manhattan, but the service here isn't remotely comparable. The space is run down, there's no atmosphere, and no real customer service. I have been living in Jackson Heights for a decade and decided to try this salon. Isabel greeted me. My hair was long with dead hair and very thick. I had my hair already wet by accident but we could begin with the haircut. She is amazing with her craft. I can trust her and the blow was out of this world and felt like spa and I could enjoy myself. She wasn't pulling my hair and it wasn't hot. For the whole experience it was $75 and well worth it! Walked in on a Friday noon for a change of hair rut, it wasn't a long wait until my turn. I have personally asked Isabel of the charges for a mere trim without wash or any sort, I was told that trim/cut must come in a package with a pre-wash and it costs $40 for the services. I had no choice and thought wouldn't mind to give it a try. It was a quick rinse without any proper massage but the shampoo girl was sweet and chatty so I kinda had a good time chatting up with her about the neighborhood niceties. Done washing, Isabel seemed knowledgeable about what she's doing so I let her take control of my hair while she explains to me I could probably try another hair cut with long sides and short back (which i declined). The whole cut took about 5-8 mins, she just trimmed away an inch of my hair, thinned my bangs and that's all. She didn't do a great job on blowing/ styling my hair, I felt it was a half hearted job done, my hair felt flimsy, the half bottom of my hair was def frizzy and not properly blown straight. Today is the 2nd day after my first wash and my hair felt frizzy and burdensome. I regretted going to hers and tipped their services after she wrecked my hair. read more

Isabel's is a great find for this neighborhood. She's a really good hair cutter plus there's a new men's barber working there now. Vinny runs the back of the salon where all the product is sold. They have a ton of product from shampoos, conditioners, gels, sprays etc. to European hair color. Isabel's has the best selection of product outside Manhattan stores. iiii liked her. Went there today after making an appointment an hour before, and Isabel was very considerate of what I wanted. I asked her to clean my dry and dead ends, and to cut a few inches off, and she did exactly that. She also gave me advice on how to treat my hair so that it's less dry and won't fall out as much. She was also telling me what products she was putting on my hair, but never tried to sell anything, or be pushy in any way. She was quick, and my hair looked great afterwards. And I do not say that lightly, because I have big curly hair, and it's not an easy task to make a decent haircut style out of it. Only thing that i didn't like so much was that when I called on the phone before to ask about the prices on the haircuts, the male receptionist said he couldn't discuss any prices on the phone with me. I'm mentioning it because that might be an inconvenience for people who don't live in the neighborhood and can't just drop by just to ask for the prices. This review is for a men's haircut from Isabel. For guys, your option is to either see the barber or see Isabel. I suppose the main difference is that the barber will give you a traditional barber buzz-cut and Isabel will give you a wash and use scissors for a more styled coiffure. Of course you'll pay a little bit more for Isabel. I thought it'd be worth the extra $$. After walking in on a busy Thursday, Isabel and I scheduled an appointment for the next day during my lunch break. That day, I arrived on-time and noticed Isabel was finishing up with another customer. No big deal, customers overlap. I had to wait around 20-25 minutes before the washer saw me. When I came back from the washer, I noticed Isabel took another customer while I was away. This made me really angry. I felt sort-of expendable at that point and wanted to up and leave, but damn I needed a haircut. I waited another 15-20 minutes before Isabel finally saw me. The haircut was mediocre. It wasn't a bad haircut, just OK. The customer service just rubbed me the wrong way and therefore I will not be returning for that reason alone. read more

I used to get my hair cut here 10+ years ago before my hair fell out ...haha The cuts here were good.. Even when I was losing my hair Isabel would cut it to sheild my hairloss from view. It was more expensive than the regular hair cuts men can get for $10 standard around the hood, but Isabel did a great job each time. If I still had hair I would still be going here every couple of weeks for a trim while i do my food shopping across the street. read more

I love Isabel!! I've been going to her to have my hair cut and styled for 15 years already. She's worked my hair through years of different styles and she always knows how to cut my hair just right to keep it light, easy to style, and best for my face shape. She's also styled my hair for various occasions. Prices aren't crazy, and she's quick. I took my teenage daughter back to have Gina take care of her hair. All I said was that she wants to look like a teenager and voila she was. It took long to cut her hair because she have really thick hair but Gina was super nice about it. As a matter of fact she was very encouraging and did not rush us at all. My kid was super happy. Gina dried out her hair after the cut and straightened it so she can ensure that it was as intended. She did make a few extra fixes after she dried out her hair so that she got it just right. I love isabel's hair salon! I have finally found a salon that knows how to handle dark brown hair and with brown skin tone! So many salon's I have gone to just did whatever they wanted without considering the coloring of the skin tone, or the health of the hair. Isabel told me exactly what would look good on me and my hair and she was on point. I have gone to have hair colored first in dark caramel hair with light highlights and when they finished I felt like JLo. I loved it and Isabel blows out my hair in such a beautiful way!! I can't believe it's been so long since anyone reviewed! Isabel is amazing. I've been going here for two years now, the first time being immediately after a salon down the street butchered my hair. Isabel took their mess and made it into a hairstyle I've kept for two years: a graduated asymmetrical bob (think Victoria Beckham) that constantly gets compliments, including from other hair stylists. I'd tried getting this haircut done at other places that charged $60+ in Manhattan and they never got the line right, but Isabel gets it perfect every single time I go, and for only $28! She's also super friendly and always remembers me when I come in, even when I skip going for several months. The place gets packed with regulars on weekends as she's the only one cutting women's hair, but she's also open fairly late on weekdays for after-work cuts and usually lets you know if you should come back another day to avoid a long wait. They also have a nice shop in the back full of hair products, and Isabel makes great recommendations on things that work for your hairstyle that are easy and not too crazy expensive. I definitely recommend giving Isabel's a try if you're looking for a great haircut at a great price in Queens. read more
