I have waist length hair, and the whole process took about 3.5 hours, including the treatment, wash, perm, drying, etc. This is a small mom-and-pop salon run by a lovely couple, and they made me feel comfortable from start to finish. They took the time to explain each step and made sure I was happy with the results. The worst experience ever. I was getting my hair dyed. the hair dresser put the dye in my hair and on my skin and wouldn't let me wipe it off my forehead for some weird reason. the hair dresser Heesun is a sadist. she dyed my hair at the same time she was doing someone else's hair when she washed my hair. She still had hair dye from the other person on her hands. I told her to wash it off but she wouldn't she also over charged me in the end. And my forehead was burned and so dry from the dye. Heesun did an amazing job! I did my color myself, but ended up frying part of my hair with the toner I used. I then cut it myself, trying to get the dead ends off and messed my hair up righteously! i moved not too recently, but long enough now that i needed a haircut. it was a spontaneous decision on a saturday, and i found arirang hair touch and noticed a few pictures that had a similar style to what i wanted. i wasn't in the mood to travel very far to flushing or murray hill, and so i called in and made an appointment for that same evening. about an hour later, i was on my way. i am definitely happy with my cut, and i was also really happy with the experience! i walked in about ten to fifteen minutes before my appointed time, and my stylist was finishing up and saw me almost immediately. she then took a really careful, thoughtful time to do my cut (i was going pretty short, with bangs) and also gave me a lot of suggestions after for how to style it. i was not being rushed around, even though it was close to closing. while i was getting my hair cut, someone else came in for a men's cut, and it was clear that this person was a regular (as was the other person who came with them). it was great to see that arirang had such good relationships with local people, and it reminded me of having my hair cut growing up. my cut, wash, and dry was $50, which is pretty on par with other salons but will probably vary depending on what you might need. i'd ask on the phone when making an appointment to get a ballpark. i felt confident and great when i left, though, and i am pretty certain i'll be visiting for my next cut. read more

*DID NOT WEAR MASK OR WHEN SHE DID IT DIDNT COVER NOSE* My girlfriend came here to get her hair cut and dyed like the picture below. The haircut was great! Lady cut it way shorter than instructed but overall still looked good. However I wish she would've honestly admitted she didn't know how to dye hair as my girlfriend asked her if she could- and she claimed she did. Long story short, she didn't. Not only were the colors completely wrong, she and her husband tried to yell at us to accept that the hair was done correctly while bad mouthing us in Korean (we don't look it but we understand Korean). When we tried to tell her we'll pay for the materials used but obviously not the service she grabbed me by the arm and refused to let us leave. We offered to pay $100 to let us go peacefully as we were both feeling threatened at this point in which they accepted and let us leave. Horrible and traumatizing experience. I had an amazing experience with Gina at Touch hair salon. I came in with long hair for magic straight perm, and she just made amazing job. I am very sensitive with my bang, most of hair stylists don't really care about style of small bang, ,and so many times, I disappointed at making nice style of it, but she really carefully listens to and cares about my opinion and this was my best experience ever. I really appreciated for her. She is a very skilled stylist and very special and knowledgeable at perm, and also very friendly and sweet (she fed me yummy BLT and coffee :p). Would give this place a negative if I could. Trusted the woman to do my hair and she literally ruined it. I asked for a simple highlight and somehow ended up with blue, silver, brown, white and patchy hair. What's worse is that she tried to charge me $400 saying that she is tired and it took so long. Then she tried to explain that the blue would wash out of my hair and become brown magically. She was extremely rough with my hair and even ripped out and earring during washing my hair and didn't even apologize. Both her and her husband kept complaining that it's too much work to do but if they couldn't provide the service they should have said no when I came in. The man accused me of trying to scam them when I said I wouldn't pay $400 for a botched job and become very confrontational. They couple spoke Korean and was saying extremely impolite things in there language as well because they didn't realize I understood their language. Was overall a very negative and uncomfortable experience. Please go somewhere else if you value your hair. ***Also did not wear masks while working or wipe down any chairs after customers came in and out. Not following covid protocols at ALL. read more

Flushing was way too far me, so Arirang seemed to be a great in-between. I've got to say this NY's best kept secret. Gina is absolutely the best!! 5 months later and my keratin held up beautifully! Came back to Jina for a touch up and a haircut and she is truly a master of her craft. She was so thorough and spent extra time making sure my hair was just perfect. Keratin for my length cost $200 and haircut was $40. I rarely go out of my way to do anything on Yelp, but this is the first time I've been so incredibly happy with the outcome of my hair and the general atmosphere of this place. I contacted them through their website to set an appointment, which was not easy as it was all in Korean--but I prevailed. Heesun shortly contacted me by phone to clarify what it was I was looking for, which I didn't even know! I said I wanted a haircut and was curious about any treatments that would add volume to my very thin, very flat Asian hair. She then asked for a photo of my hair and suggested an appointment slot based on what I imagine made sense for her schedule. It's a very short walk from the 7 train. The shop is quite small with a mom-and-pop feel. There are two visible seats--one for the barber and one for women's hair--and an additional seat in the back so three people could get serviced at the same time. I was pleasantly surprised to see a diversity of customer ages during the 2.5 hours I was there. During those 2.5 hours, Heesun went nonstop on giving me a root perm and haircut. She was dealing with what she vocalized was incredibly long (think past the hips) and thin hair. The entire time, she was doing something precisely and efficiently while her partner would also diligently make himself helpful to her between his own customers. It was lovely to see them interact so seamlessly. Based on prior positive Yelp reviews, I decided to let Heesun do her thing, and it turned out even better than I could have imagined: the root perm makes it so that as long as I dry my hair with my head flipped, I don't need to use any appliances or extra styling tricks for the volume I'd been desperately craving. What's more, the hair length she decided on was much shorter than what I would have asked for, but seeing myself in my full-length mirror, the proportions feel just right. I'm seriously impressed with how a vague description of past hairstyles and a photo of some celebrity with fluffy hair led to such a great outcome. The total for the root perm + cut came out to $300 not including tip, which I found incredibly reasonable for the time and labor involved. This is the first time in my eight years of living in NYC that I think I have found The One. Definitely consider visiting this spot and supporting a small business. *COVID note: due to the rigorousness of my appointment, it was necessary for me to take off my mask (think some weird, inflatable steam bag + intense combing action for electric rollers w/ a huge machine attached + multiple washes and soaks + some hollowed out neck cushion to catch drips). Heesun would occasionally put her mask down to her chin when she was doing something intensive. Her partner kept his mask on the entire time and regularly spritzed and wiped down surfaces and floors with sanitizer spray.
