Hair trimming and natural blow dry
    Carol M.

Roger is amazing! He's the best hair stylist I've been to in the US. I got my hair layered today and gave it more volume then styled it and I was done in less than an hour. Thank you!!

Before and after my blowout with Mia! Highly recommend!
    Chelsea A.

Came here last Saturday for an 8am blowout before my graduation shoot. It was pouring and humid. I have naturally curly hair (3B curls but I teased out my hair in the first pic), so it takes a little longer to blow out my curls in a way that ensures they don't frizz in humidity. BUT MIA DID SUCH A PHENOMENAL JOB!!! The bounce in my curls lasted a good 4 days even after working out two of those days. I honestly have never had a better blowout and this is my fifth state I've lived in. It was my first time with her, so I had no idea how it would go but she knocked it out of the park I cannot recommend this salon enough.

"One shade darker," according to stylist--went from light brown to dark brown. Don't trust this place.
    Gigi Y.

First, let me start off by saying that I really did not want to have to write this bad review. Despite being bullied and receiving poor customer service, I gave my stylist and the salon manager 3 tries to resolve the situation. This is unfortunate because, I think my hairstylist, Mia, was a brilliant hair cutter. I have searched for someone like her for 3 years in Boston and am very sad that I don't feel comfortable going back anymore. I had to write this review, so people would know how this salon can treat customers and that they be warned before seeing Mia for color. The story begins when I wanted to change things up and add some dimension to my light brown undyed hair and Mia shared that she also does color. I made an appointment and showed up with a picture of something I really liked like that was basically heavy highlights on the bottom 1/3 of the hair. She got to work and made me feel really comfortable along the way, explaining what she was doing, so I didn't think to worry or second guess her work. By the time that it was washed out, the bottom 1/2-2/3's of my hair was a very brassy orange AGGRESSIVE ombre. I was starting to feel a bit nervous, but I thought I probably just needed to see it at home to get used to it. After the appointment I caught a glimpse of myself in a mirror and almost burst into tears at how awful it looked. I wasn't far from the salon, so I made my way back to say that I was unhappy with the color and mentioned that it was very intense and not what I asked for. Mia promptly sat me down and added a toner to the color which she said would help adjust the color that was so blaringly bad to me. The toner was applied and it didn't do much, and I think Mia could sense that I was not happy, and asked me to come again to fix things when I was ready. I was really unhappy, but I was also exhausted with the situation and hoped that I would like it (even though my wallet did not). Fast forward 4 weeks, which happened to be a 5 days before my engagement party in California. I did not grow to like the heavy handed ombre and wanted to look like myself in pictures and revert my color back to my natural look. I figured that since Mia knew I was unhappy the first time, that she would do everything in her power to make sure that I loved the new color. She recommended that I color my hair semi permanent all over one shade darker. I wasn't in love with the idea of dying all my hair, but it didn't seem like there was any other option available so I trusted her. Mia applied the color and washed it out and started to dry some sections to see the color. I wasn't sure if it was the lights in the salon, but it looked DARK. My hair is typically called a strawberry blonde or light brown and it looked like a very dark brown. I wasn't really sure what to think and didn't want to freak out before I had to see it in normal light (and I had a plane to catch later that afternoon) so I paid and left. Once I got home, I was able to confirm that my hair was indeed nearly black. HOW does one shade lighter from light brown mean dark brown/almost black? I was horrified. The reason I had gone to get my hair fixed was to look like myself and now I looked like an entirely different person, with only a few days to fix things before the party. The next day I called the salon, to share my story with the manager and ask for a refund since I would be unable to go to that salon to have it fixed. I mentioned that I felt awful calling, since I like Mia so much, but that this was the second time that I was disappointed with the color and that being told one shade darker took me from light brown to almost black. The manager (male) listened to my story, then said "there are two sides to every story" and said he'd call me the next day after he spoke to Mia. I was really shocked that he would say something like this being in the customer service industry, but thought I'd give him the benefit of the doubt to resolve the situation. The very next day I got a call from Mia, the last person I'd want to talk to regarding this situation until it was resolved. She asked me why I didn't tell her that I didn't like it and to send her some pictures, to which she replied that it looked way darker in the picture than it did in the salon (ummmm, why don't you tell me how this happened!?). The whole exchange with her made me feel very uncomfortable and it was super unprofessional to be bullied over text message as to why I didn't go back for her to fix it. Then I waited to hear from the manager. Nothing. Called and left one message for the manager. Nothing. A few days later, I text Mia and she said he was very busy and would get back to me soon. More time passes, leave another message for the manager. Nothing. A few days for by, text Mia again for help to get an answer from them--radio silence. I'm really shocked at the situation and disappointed because I really wanted to like this place.

Blow out and waves by Shalyn, excellent job!

I've been here about 5 times or so... The best experiences I had so far was with Shalyn who did a wonderful job with my long hair. Would definitely recommend her. I tried using someone else at Enzo, unfortunately did not go as well. I will keep coming back for those last minute blow outs, perfect for a night out.

I rushed to get to my 9:00am appointment for a cut and color (early for a Saturday morning but the only time available). I moved out of state and although I do not get my hair done often, I like quality and am willing to pay for it, and nothing beats EnZo. I had to wait a few minutes for my stylist, Nadia, but parking can be crazy around newberry street and she made up for it by making me look fabulous, serving me peach ginger tea and spending extra time with me at the end. I wanted to do an ombré and use my natural color, a mousy brown riddled with grays as a base. Nadia asked to see photos of what I had in mind, and suggested I deepen the base to bring out my features. Since I have seen her before and loved my hair everytime, I trust her judgement. I'm not sure if it was upselling or just a good eye for color, or both, but I'm glad she didn't just do what I originally wanted because it would not have looked as good. It is a family run business. Nadia and her brother are warm and hospitable. I felt at home despite it being a rather fancy salon. I forgot cash and was told they only accept cash tips, so I had to run to the ATM and come back to leave a tip. I will definitely be back next time I'm in bean town, and really don't want to go see anyone anywhere else. . . ever. Very pleased with my new dew!

The work is impeccable to a level that I've been stopped by more than one stranger on the street post appointment. They have fantastic pricing and easy booking but what really sets them apart for me is the personalized and comfortable experience in the chair. I've been in salons where you can clearly tell you're their hundredth appointment, they aren't listening to you, they just want to get it done and worst of the staff don't get along with one another. That's not ZenaRose. Every staff member at ZenaRose genuinely gets a long and helps one another out; creating a wonderful atmosphere to spend what is some times more than an hour or two for an appointment. I connected with Kelli on my first visit and no matter what time or day I have booked with her over the years she makes me feel like I'm the only client she's seeing. She is kind, fun and her attention to detail makes me feel so confident when I leave her chair. I had my first every professional make up done by Yuliya today and WOW! I went in with no pictures and stunned with the results. As someone who has never gotten their makeup done I wasn't sure what to expect. Yuliya made me very comfortable, most notably making sure to pause to let me blink while she was doing my eye make up. I hadn't even realized I needed to blink and she's pausing for my comfort. Will definitely be back. Last note on booking, I called ten minutes before they closed the night before I needed a morning appointment. Fully expecting that a Saturday morning in late Feb would be booked solid, I got a call back in less than 10 minutes saying they had worked something out and it's all booked. No matter who you chose at ZenaRose you're going to have an incredible experience.

I deducted one star because my appointment was for Event/Glam Photoshoot Make Up and Dyson Bouncy Curl Blow Out, but I didn't end up getting a blow out. She styled my hair with a flat iron but I was still charged for a bouncy curl blow out which I didn't feel was the same value. Other than that, I was very happy with my experience.

I have been to many of the "best" well-known salons on Newbury St. I've always left unhappy with darker hair, ashy, muddy, etc.. it went on for so long. I was even told that your hair changes every seven years and my hair just can't get light again. These colors made me look so washed out. I hated it. I ended up going to a salon in Needham. She refused to put collar on it except for my roots. She lightened my roots and then put a toner on it. She turned my hair medium brown. I was horrified! She washed it out, put another toner on. This was a color I had never seen! I had a combination of orange and the other parts were brownish ash and greenish! I was totally freaked! And I have an event coming up this weekend. I read some reviews never thinking I would get in to anyone last minute. Lynda answered and was nice enough able to squeeze me in at the end of the day. Walking in with multicolored hair, and being told my hair can't be blonde again, I could just tell that she was going to be good. I hit the jackpot with Lynda! I'm blonde, my hair looks healthy, she gives a phenomenal blowout, and I will never go to anyone else again. Lynda is extremely knowledgeable and unbelievably talented! For the first time in so long not only was a blonde, but when I looked in the mirror I liked what I saw and I really hadn't for such a long time. Lynda' is by far the best most talented colorist in Boston! I can't tell you how glad I am to have found her.

She is truly a master of her craft and on top of that, a genuine person. What makes Jessica unique and ultimately, the best, is her ability to actually listen to what her clients want. For the first few appointments, Jessica asked me to show her images of hair I liked and then she really pressed me to detail exactly what it was I liked about the images (darker roots, length, layering, highlights, overall color, etc.). After only a couple of these conversations, I realized that for years I was describing to hair stylist something that was entirely different than what I actually wanted. With Jessica, going through these images and having these discussions helped us to be on the same page about what I wanted my hair to look like both in the moment as well as in the future. Using this information, she created a customized plan and timeline for me; the result is that today my hair is longer and healthier than ever with a color that I absolutely adore. Her skills as a stylist are further complemented by the exceptional level of service that she provides. Jessica is always on time and clear about pricing. She confirms appointments a week in advance and always offers flexibility if you need to reschedule; it's not uncommon for her to come in early or stay late to accommodate a client. She develops long-term relationships with her clients and gets to know them on a personal level so that she can tailor both the service and overall experience to each individual. Jessica is expensive, but I believe you get what you pay for. In this instance, superior haircare services in an exclusive single chair salon with a creative and thoughtful stylist.
