The lowdown: I highly recommend this place for a fun date idea. Usually you can find a coupon which lessens the price You get your own personal "coach" to help teach and guide you. It wasn't very crowded on Sunday afternoon when I went. Fun fact: They serve beer and you can ( and should) tip the throwing coach. My friend had 2 coupons that she received in the mail for half off of a 1 hr ax throwing session so we decided to double date it up and check it out. When you enter, you have to go in and sign a waiver (scan QR code w phone). Filing out the waiver was quick and easy. You are then provided a coach, our coach was Zach. This guy was amazing. He goes over all the rules and then give you tips and guides you on how to throw the ax correctly. What I really loved about Zach, other than his great personality, was the fact that he personalized the throwing for each individual based on their unique size, style and ability. He was very kind, patient and encouraging. The 3 rd time that I threw I got the center (then I didn't hit it again the rest of the time, lol). He often even goes and collects the ax for you after each throw. within the first few minutes he had us all hitting and sticking it in the board. Zach stayed w is the whole time and helped us refine our throwing technique. Definitely worth checking this place out. I'm looking forward to going back. I don't think I would go back and pay full price though. read more

Epic Axe was an awesome experience! Learning anything for the first time is hard, and axe-throwing qualifies. Our instructor, Jackson, was extremely patient and he talked us through the swing and the lean motions in a way that finally made sense. As I finally got my first bull's-eye, I realized that this experience was a great exercise in conquering the fears of looking bad. So to Epic Axe and to Jackson, I say thank you! read more

Doing their best during covid is the least that can be asked during these times but Marc and Epic Axe went above and beyond!!! I have never been ace throwing before but I am definitely coming back here. Marc was our instructor but he was with us 100 percent of the time giving us tips and just making it an awesome time. I would have never expected axe throwing to be so fun but I would recommend it to everyone. I never felt in danger which you would expect with "throwing axes." It was awesome and if you have Marc as an instructor you are set!!! read more

Signed up to join the league before the pandemic. It never got going due to the current state. I went on the initial day to learn about it when there was supposed to be pizza and other things. Got there nobody was there other than staff who seemed confused and put me in a back room. I should have known this was going to be bad from the start. I signed up under SE for all info and notifications and got none I missed the first week due to poor communication from the facility. Next we go on a pause due to the pandemic. I called up to cancel since I'm not comfortable being in that environment with no social distancing. I drove by to see people sitting outside not wearing a mask per the EO. I had called for 2 weeks to see about a refund and was told both times it had been processed. Still nothing as of today 6/28/20. I called again and got the same man as last time who said he was the owner and questioned why I wanted to cancel since they were open. I said I don't feel comfortable being around people drinking and not wearing masks. I told him I was following up on what I was told from one of his staff and him and identified them person who I spoke to in the proper politically correct form. To which he questioned me why I had to say what I said. I told him so he knew who I spoke to since there are more than one person working there. I told him I don't have to tell him my reasons and he said well we don't give refunds which is different than what he said the week before. He then said maybe I needed the money and I also said that's not your business. But I did say don't be an asshole to which he said I must be the founding member of the asshole club. I told him I'm not and don't need the money but would make a donation in his name to that very close or one like it since he was so passionate about it. This place and specifically the owner are very unprofessional in the way they treat their patrons which by the way before the pandemic we visited a few times. If you are looking for a family friendly environment where they don't question you about your concerns I would look elsewhere. This place is a joke and I would not support them again in any capacity. read more

I booked 30 minutes for my family (wife and 2 sons, 19 and 22]. We had a blast. Cool atmosphere. Someone stays with you the entire time to give advice and to keep everyone safe. Lots of laughs. You pick up throwing quickly. Awesome feeling when the first axe sticks in the target! After we finished we grabbed a drink in the bar and hung out (local beers on tap). Honestly there are not enough words to express the amazing time that my group had @ Epic Axe!! Marc was phenomenal!! He took the time to make sure that we all felt comfortable throwing, did not mind repeating himself 102 times about what to do or what we needed to do to get that axe stuck. He was right there with us giving high fives, and getting excited when we, well me at least finally got one to stay in that wood. He was far more than an instructor, he was one of us last night!! Our bartender was simply amazing, she checked on us constantly to make sure we had everything we needed, not one time did anyone have to wait on a drink, she would even stand behind us at times and cheer us all on. The location was clean inside and there were several hand sanitation areas. You can tell that they have a great attention to detail!! Again, there are not enough words to fully express the "Epicness" of the night we had but when you and your group walk out with a smile on everyone's face... someone has done something right!! It have been a couple of times but this past time was less than spectacular . Our coach was down right rude. The 2 other times I have been our coach was super helpful & helped each member of our group when they were having difficulty giving advice & tips & cheering us on. This past time our coach made insulting comments "you know your supposed to hit the board with the other side of the axe right?, a blind person could do better than that. I know she was just "joking" but when I pay so much to have fun I don't want insults & would rather have helpful advice. read more

While my boyfriend and I had fun, there's better axe throwing places to go to. Epic axe was way overpriced for a weirdly dim lit room(felt like it was closed while we were there) , and axe instructors who are young and unhelpful. Thank god I went to a better axe throwing place before this where instructors actually gave good advice. The axe boards were in desperate need of a change. Atmosphere was just not there. Save your time and money and go to the other axe throwing places in Raleigh. read more

We had an Axe-cellent experience here! We were fortunate enough to have Billy, the owner, as our coach and he was very helpful in teaching and coaching all skill levels. He helped each individual find their rhythm. He taught games we could play amongst our group and we even had a friendly competition with the group in the lane next to ours. What a great time!!! Everyone was so nice and helpful and the mimosa's were very tasty:). I've never thrown an ax before but within 30 minutes I was hitting a bullseye. Of course this was mostly due to the expert help I got from Ryan. Age doesn't matter. I'm almost 60 and had just as much fun as my 18 year old daughter. This place is Epically Amazing. Great Friends, Great Family, and Great Fun!! The owner has been doing everything and anything to try create a social environment which provides a place for people to get out of the house. Employees wear masks at all times and unless you are eating, drinking, or throwing, you are required to wear one as well. There are plenty of hand sanitizer stations located throughout and soap in bathrooms. The emploees do an outstanding job keeping the entire establishment clean and squared away at all times. I have been a customer of the Wake Forest location since about a week after they opened earlier this year. I have nothing but good things to say about the staff, the facility and the management. They even recently started serving food. This is a great place to grab a drink and throw some axes with your friends or a date! They now have a Lounge for and outside seating as well if you just want to socialize instead of or in addition to throwing hatchets. I am actually the captain of the league and we are always looking to get new people involved. Come try it out and then let me know if you want to join up! read more

Just checked out the Wake Forest location of Epic Axe. Kind of cool place, but not the best place to watch & hear a band. The crowd, (what there was of it) was young and there to throw axes, not listen to music. There isn't a lot of seating and no food. The staff is friendly and that is why I'm leaving 1 star. I was overcharged for 2 drinks. When I called to challenge the total, the guy I spoke to was great. He found the charge, verified my purchases & even called back to confirm that my card would be reimbursed. 4 days later I called back to see if the credit was processed on their end. I spoke to the owner. Not only was he condescending, but he was outright RUDE. I guess he forgot that they made the error. I bought 4 drinks and was charged for 6. This is not a good start. I feel sorry for the staff. I will NOT be back and I suggest you check your receipts before cashing out. There are better places to hang for a drink & much better places to listen to music & dance. read more
