I was a little hesitant to shop in a store owned by Vail resorts, but they do really know what they're doing and are focused on selling a ton of ski gear options. They also had a sale (mid-march), which was actually pretty significant. I was in the market for new ski pants, tried on a bunch of options and settled on a pair that was marked down from $250 to $160, not bad. I then had to stop myself from purchasing other cute fleeces and gear that I really didn't need. I had an easy time trying on and checking out. Overall pretty great experience. read more

I had an excellent experience at Epic Mountain Gear in Boulder -- a refreshing contrast to what happened earlier in the day at Full Cycle. I originally went to Full Cycle with my wife's 20-year-old Specialized XP (size small) to get two new tires with tubes and a basic setup. Instead of simply helping, one of their staff -- a guy wearing a hat and a strange mustache -- was immediately dismissive. He said the bike wasn't worth more than $150 and quoted me $250 for the service. I was still willing to pay, but he continued to criticize the bike and push for unnecessary repairs. The attitude was rude and unprofessional, and he even made snide remarks about my wife's bike, which just needed a simple tune-up. Frustrated, I left and went to Epic Mountain Gear on Arapahoe, and the difference was incredible. The staff there was professional, respectful, and helpful from the moment I walked in. They gave my wife's old Specialized the proper service it deserved -- no judgment, no upselling -- and got it back into great shape. On top of that, they helped me purchase a brand-new bike as well, with no pressure, just solid advice and great customer care. Epic Mountain Gear earned my trust and business. First time in Epic Mountain Gear today while visiting CU Boulder. I've been wanting to get a pair of boots for a while. The sales were great so I sat on the boot bench and Everette came right over to help. He was amazing. He assessed my bare feet, discussed what type of terrain I like to ski, measured my socked feet, discussed the intricacies of my particular foot type and then was completely honest about not having too many options in my size this late in the season. With that he found a boot he did have in my size that might work and worked me through every part of the process for trying to sort out if they were the right fit including trying several different insoles. At the end of the day the price was right but the boot was just a little too stiff at the top, which he agreed with. He never tried to sell me on anything and at then end gave me a road map on his opinion of what I should be looking for. He spent a generous 30 minutes plus with me and I learned more from him than I have in 15 years of visiting ski shops. We did end up purchasing a great Rossi ski jacket for my son but I wish I could have purchased a pair of boots from Everette because his service was truly exceptional. Groot setup my wife and I with custom-fitted boots, skis, and accessories: I've been dreading getting back into skiing solely because of how uncomfortable my boots have always been. Well, it turns out Groot is a closet podiatrists! He was able to diagnose the intricacies of my foot geometry, craft a custom insole into a brand new pair of custom-molded Atomics and BAM! I felt like shredding some gnar, or whatever...This man is a national treasure! Reflecting back on this experience, I feel the only thing missing was perhaps a nice foot massage to ease the pain of trying on so many boots. I mean, could any shop even compete with a service like that? I think not. read more

I love this store. We just moved here this summer and we went in to check it out. It was their end of year clearance sale, and we got a great deal on new skis. Kate was patient, friendly and knowledgeable helping us pick out new gear. We found great prices on new helmets, goggles and gloves, too. I was in browsing, getting a sense of the current market and pricing on snowboard boots as we are planning to fund a gift of a pair to someone who will make his own purchase. I looked here as the bargain end of the range and REI as the more premium. Cool looking stuff but I think I'd better stick to my old skis for myself. We have purchased a lot of gear here ever since it first opened. It has expanded and gone through some ownership changes over the years but it still seems true to its reputation. There was a big sale going on but it was well staffed early in the day and the staff was very friendly and helpful. read more

The Boulder store was so good for so many years, but anymore the service is awful. We've been customers here since the Boulder Ski Deals days. The selection is still the best out there, but the employees (at the Boulder store specifically) now have an elitist attitude and act like the customers are an inconvenience. I won't buy from or recommend this location again. I wish the corporate powers-at-be cared to make improvements, but I don't think that's the case. Such a disappointment. read more

Ask for Fred to fit your ski boots here, and you're gonna have a great time! It'd been decades since I last bought new skis. Just got a full ski equipment set up here. 5 out of 5 honest Yelp stars for superb customer service and simply a great ski purchasing equipment. Shopped hard at 2 other recommended serious ski shops in Boulder. One was moderately more expensive for apples to apples same equipment, and the other was ridiculously overpriced, catering to trust-fund hippies, I suppose. Kept coming back to Epic. Boot fitter Fred is a no/bs wise ski boot fitter who not only tells it like it really is, I also really appreciated his explanations of the how and why boots fit (or don't fit). It's not canned, it's patiently taught from his personal years of experience. So regarding the other different Boulder ski boot fitter store that I spent 3+ hours in the day before before walking out empty handed and frustrated, toes and shin hurting: I tried on and was jammed in about 6-7 different pairs of boots there that just weren't right for me. All hat/no cattle. Night and day purchase/fitting experience: I didn't feel like Fred at Epic Mountain Sports was merely trying make a sale or jam me in a pair of boots that just weren't the right pain-free fit for me. Quite the opposite with his incredible boot and foot physiology experience and ski equipment knowledge, I was 100% super-satisfied with my new boot purchase. Having the right molded boot insert made all the right difference. And I bought and was fitted to the first pair he showed me that also happened to be priced half the cost of that other store. So I shopped and did more research again that evening, came right back and got a great pair of new skis/poles. Again, a textbook awesome purchase experience. Bonus mention to Epic ski clothing sales rep Jen for her patience and recommendations helping me get the right goggles/helmet/gloves etc... Just a great rep to work with. Epic's pricing is dead even with Amazon. Do sign up for their Preferred Shopper program on their website. They emailed me a great $40 off coupon I used then and there. I definitely recommend Epic to all. PS: my new bindings were properly mounted my new tuned skis in 6 hours, promptly notified by email to pick up. Now that's great customer service. read more

Disappointing to say the least. These guys had my skis from Oct 29 to Dec 5 to perform a tune. When I went into the store to pick up my skis they hadn't been tuned. They said there was a crack in an edge. Funny it wasn't there prior to coming in because they inspected the skis in October to see what service they needed. No call, no text to inform me what was going on. They seemed confused and disorganized. It took 15 minutes just for the guy with the tablet to figure how to refund me. Not even apologetic. Unprofessional. I'll never get a tune there again. read more

It's about 3 weeks away from ski-Rex the annual mega sale. I met the manager today, who told me that if I buy it today, and bring my receipt in after ski Rex he will refund me the lowest price. That's what this new manager is going to do. Whether or not he will honor this is still in the air. I will update this in early September. I got dibs on some really cheap stuff, before the Labor Day rush. I got some burton boots for $20. Retails for $199, and online it is currently $140. The guy that helped me out was Adam, he was very helpful and showed me all of the best deals. Also I am very new to winter sports, and he really spent a lot of time with me. He actually juggled 4 customers, but I still felt I had an REI type experience. I loved my experience here, everyone was helpful. I will be back. And I will update this after the big sale. I have feet that are very difficult to fit properly with ski boots. I'm also in my 60s and want to enjoy skiing for as long as my body holds up and my equipment must be safe and forgiving. Last weekend I went into Epic Mountain Gear needing new boots, bindings and skiis. Fred helped select the appropriate equipment and he was amazing. I probably tried many boots before finding the perfect one and Fred was determined to help me find the right fit for me. He also found great skis and bindings to complete my set up. I went skiing today and I have never had boots feel so comfortable for the entire day! I later went in and Mario price matched with an online retailer. 2. My boots (fitted at Larry's) were causing me pain. Hanna, an extremely knowledgeable boot fitter/ orthopedist, modified by boots. She even gave me a list of recommended footwear/ professionals to contact. 3. My kids get new boots and skis every year through the trade up program. I think its $100/ kid? 4.
