Five stars for the medical team, zero stars for scheduling, phones and leadership…read more I've been dealing with EMA for nearly two years and it often seems as if no one there below the rank of physician can operate a telephone. The causes of this collective developmental disability are a mystery, but the bureaucratic disease is real. The office is fully staffed. I know that from firsthand experience because I've been there five times. The parking situation is awesome. The location is stellar and easy to reach. But the front desk? The folks working the grill at McDonald's look like rocket scientists by comparison to EMA's admin people. Why is answering the phone in 20 rings or less so hard for them? Why can't EMA call referral patients to book appointments with them? Every time I cite EMA's Wesley San as my preferred physical medicine specialist the referring spine doctor tells me EMA will be calling me to make an appointment. However, that promise has not been fulfilled once in five tries in the two years since I tore up my back. And no one answers when you call EMA's main number at 253-272-9994 to try and make an appointment. Especially around lunch time, which apparently runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at EMA. Good luck booking at EMA via MyChart, as you can with nearly every other MultiCare office or affiliate, because EMA doesn't use it. Why? Apparently, managing physician Kashif Saeed thinks they're so incredibly efficient they don't need it. I've had a wonderful experience with Dr. Wesley San at EMA, who is awesome, but I'm no longer either healthy enough, persistent enough, nor intelligent enough to navigate my way through the EMA front office team to him. I know I'm not the only frequent flier at EMA who is sick of this crap. Because their reviews are full of similar stories, What's the moral of the a story? When you create an administrative situation where the only way a patient can get through to their physician at EMA is to write a negative review online, guess what you get? You're reading it. Look Kashif, if you are too busy to run the admin side of the business at EMA then hire someone else to oversee it and focus on physical medicine. Because this isn't working.

Conner helped to alleviate my concerns for the outcome of an MRI I had done on my cervical spine. I hadn't yet met with my doctor to discuss the results and the various descriptions preceded with "moderate" and "severe" weren't helping to relieve my anxiety any. He educated me on the terminology, used graphical software explaining the precise areas and explain what the radiologist's assessments were saying. Big relief until my doctor was able to meet with me. I had three appointments with him and found the physical manipulations/massage and exercise assignments to be super helpful in increasing range of motion, developing supportive strength and improving my posture, which will in turn strengthen my neck. He suggest I download a free app so he could update it on his end with videos of the various workouts and stretches I could perform during the week at home after trying them out with him in the gym. Any which were too difficult for me, he had a modification which could work the muscles needed. What a relief! The videos are INCREDIBLY helpful in both reminding me to do the exercises and to ensure I was maintaining proper form to prevent injury, work the appropriate area and make the most out of each movement. Due to the tingling and numbness going away (yay) I cancelled a couple appointments I had booked in advance. I may need more after some travel I will be doing this fall. Planes always seem to aggravate my neck and upper back. In the mean time, I will continue to practice the stretches and strengthening exercises Conner Naccarato assigned specifically for my needs and abilities with hopes that the plane trips won't have an adverse effect on me after all. But if they do, I know where to go now!

I bought my sister a gift certificate of $180.00 for her birthday to enjoy a massage at Rapture…read more When she was filling out the form they asked her to provider her pronoun. This was not an optional question however it should be since its personal. She declined to answer the question online and by doing so could not complete the form. She went to Rapture in person on her appointment date to fill out any forms needed for the massage. She's been to spas before so she knows the routine is pretty straight forward when you're there. In this case however, it was not. While there she was told by a Rapture employee that she would have to answer the question and disclose her pronoun that she prefers. She explained to them that this is not necessary and that she doesn't feel comfortable disclosing this information to them or to anyone else for that matter. Rapture declined service due to this unnecessary, and what should be optional question to answer. They literally told her that they can't provide a massage service that has already been paid for through a gift certificate because she wouldn't disclose her pronoun preference. The employee also said this was required in case of an emergency. What emergency service would actually care or even ask what someones pronoun is? They don't. Furthermore, Rapture didn't even offer to refund the GC even though they weren't providing the service. The least they can do is provide a refund. That would be the descent thing to do. Not decline service and keep the money. Rapture, I have issued a charge back on to my credit card for services not provided.

Like many others, I have been overwhelmed by our current social context, work, and trying to assist my kids with schooling at home. Time for self-care, right? (Insert sadness). I started work earlier today, moved meetings, and left early, so that I could make this appointment. Needless to say, I was looking forward to some compassionate, skillful care. (Insert more sadness). I arrived five minutes early as instructed. Knocked and waited. Knocked and waited. An individual come to the door and explained that she was part of another business and asked me to wait while she checked with Carol downstairs. She came back shortly and explained that my appointment had been cancelled? Pardon me? "Yeah, your email didn't work, so your appointment was cancelled." "My email?," I asked incredulously. "Yes," she confirmed. Stunned, I went back to my car to check my email. After all, I may have missed the cancellation email. After searching my email, there was no cancellation email. Instead, there were THREE emails, including one from yesterday, affirming my appointment (photo below). This is advertised as a woman owned, minority business, and it's on the Hilltop! I was looking forward to supporting this business. Miscommunication happens, client error happens, we all miss the mark sometimes. I get it. Those things do not and should not define this business--but the mark was missed today. You could have helped to correct some of this by: (1) ensuring you cancel appointments, to be considerate of other's time. (2) It would have been a small, but kind gesture to come to the door, meet me yourself, and explain. The lack of the aforementioned has left me even more weary and feeling unvalued as a potential client. (Super sad). Yelp fam, have any suggestions for therapeutic massage in the Tacoma/Lakewood/Steilacoom/University Place/Fircrest area? Please send me a private message.
