Never again. I was renting an apartment from Oak City Properties for a year and a half. This summer…read morea mold outbreak developed and went full force all over on everything by July 18, as a result of mold spores in the ventilation system. After it made me sick and began to destroy my stuff, I evacuated, but couldn't relocate my items for fear of cross-contamination. Finally, cleaners were brought into the picture. Chris, from ServiceMaster, came out for an estimate on August 24th. It sounded like he didn't want the job. The following Monday, after review of all estimates, Oak City Properties selected ServiceMaster to do the job. They came for all of my things -- art, books, clothing, furniture, etc. -- on September 1st. At that point, I'd been living out of suitcases elsewhere for a month and a half. My things then sat in ServiceMaster's humid warehouse for over three weeks before all clothing was sent to the dry cleaners. They'd cleaned my kitchen items, but I only knew that since I went by to grab some clothes and his staff was present. There was no communication updating me of the status of things otherwise. During a time of such turmoil, communicating to someone gives them reassurance. I visited the warehouse on October 13th with the insurance adjuster and landlord. At this point, they had had my things for a month and a half and determined the job was done. Chris was present, but had an air of condescension about him as if I was the one causing this inconvenience to him and he was the one forced to live out of suitcases. I was devastated at how much was deemed uncleanable, but also concerned at how disorganized they seemed. Pairs of shoes that could have been cleaned were strewn about and my things sat too close to other people's belongings. My things would have to sit there another month until I could close on a place to live and it could be sorted out with the insurance. As soon as I knew of my move-in date to a new place, I notified Chris. Getting an email reply or call back was rare and difficult, but I persisted. We needed to confirm this. He said his team would be able to return all of my items -- cleaned and uncleanable -- on Friday, November 25th. I offered to come to the warehouse that morning to review the loading of my items into their trucks. At the warehouse, I'd observed how closely my items sat to other people's belongings. He said that there would be no issues and two of his guys would arrive at 10am. They arrived promptly at 10am and began to unload. I was surprised, but not shocked that they'd even brought someone else's things back with them. I told them those things were nice, but not mine and they should take them back. Some things that entered my house were clearly not cleaned. I sent clothing and other items back to be cleaned. In the next 24 hours, I discovered that items were missing. Washer and dryer hoses were missing. Glasses -- some were family heirlooms -- were broken. Water stains were on my dresser. Dust was on my bookshelves. One of his guys brought back some cleaned items the next day. I appreciated him doing that so much that I sent him home with a really nice craft beer, since I'd heard him talking about that the previous day. The following week I called Chris to check on the recleaning and scheduling, as well as compensation because, shocker, he hadn't called me. Not one apology, call, or email. Once again, he was defensive and rude. Last Friday, December 2, two of his guys came back. One guy was there to clean the carpets to make up for their disorganization. He smelled like weed. The other guy brought a check and stuff back and kept saying, "well we have to make sure YOU are happy before we leave and hope to never see you again under these circumstances." Really? Way to leave on a good note. This week, I've noticed that my brand new ski goggles and DVD player are missing... The remote is here, but not the DVD player. I also discovered that they brought a cloth box with mold on it into my bedroom! It's been sitting in my brand new house for a week and a half with mold on it and, because I'm still getting settled, I couldn't have inspected every item right away. Not impressed. I would never recommend this ServiceMaster franchise/location. If that's the way you're going to do customer care, communicate, and provide a service, you shouldn't be doing it.

By 6PM Chris had multiple crews on the ground working. Tuesday, August 2, 2013 the Town of Chapel Hill sent a team to inspect the 45 flooded units. They came with condemned signs. Their intentions were to condemn the structures, which would've displaced the residents of 45 units and hurt property values. They commented that of all the flooded sites they inspected, ours were in the best shape. After a lengthy discussion the town gave us a deadline of the next day at 10AM. At the deadline we needed to have all the flooring and 2 feet of drywall torn out of each flooded unit. Chris Dowdall called in extra help and by 10AM the next day we passed inspection with flying colors. The units were not condemned. ServiceMaster Rapid Recovery continued to help dry out the units until we were able to start rebuilding. Chris's crew and expertise were invaluable during this crisis

They also did our attic - we had squirrels that had been residing in our attic- they had made many little homes in the pink insulation - looked like they had been having a huge party up there with their babies . All insulation had to be removed and replaced. Incredible job .My husband and myself are physically feeling much better since all the mold and other " animal debri, etc" was cleaned, scrubbed , was removed. Would not use anyone else!!! We are now sleeping well and are confident that we are not breathing in mold from humidity crawl space issues nor animal excrement. This is the way to go!!!!

This company is anything but reputable, honest, or willing to stand by their reputation. After…read moreresearching and contacting multiple companies I hired Atlantic Corp in Fuquay because the sold me on their long-standing reputation in the community, all their certifications, high quality of work, and frankly telling me how much better they were than any other company doing this work. I hired them in October of 2024, and paid almost $1,100. For the work, which was reasonable based on other estimates and the work was done on time as scheduled with no obvious issues at the time. Due to ambient temperatures mid-October my heat and AC weren't really running and my bills were less than $30. In November my heating bill went to $220 (significantly higher than last year) and in December it jumped to $340 and my home was not maintaining heat. Ridiculously high bill for a cold home. I first contacted an HVAC company who determined that my system only 2 years old was working perfectly. They diagnosed that I likely had a problem in my duct work which could have been torn and or disconnected during the October cleaning and that was why my house was pumping heat but staying cold. I had to call this company dozens of times before anyone answered the phone or returned my call. I left several messages which were never returned. I even informed them that I had to hire someone to investigate the duct work so I could have adequate heat, but wanted to give them a chance to make it right before I did that. Minimal effort was made on the part of the company to communicate with me, much less help address the issue - this was mid January with sub freezing temperatures. I contacted a second company who was able to find the damage in the duct work and repair it. I asked Atlantic Corp to pay the $409 for the repairs it cost me. I didn't ask for anything for the increased bills I had paid, a refund for the cleaning itself, or the three days I had to take off work to address this. This seems very reasonable considering two professionals put on their invoice that this was due to damage during the cleaning. They deny that they did this damage or had anything to do with it. They offered me a $100 refund with a denial. If you are looking to use a company who stands by their reputation, I do not recommend.

Green Home Solutions are truly the best to work with for mold remediation. I unfortunately live in…read morea place that it is very hard to keep moisture out of, because I have a shared crawl space with a whole row of townhouses that is not enclosed and my HOA will not enclose it, and I cannot enclose just my portion. I used Green Home the first time at the end of 2020 and while the price was a little bit higher than some other mold remediation options, when reading the description of what their service did, I could tell it would be worth the difference. Other services are killing mold with harsh chemicals, that intended to kill on-contact and at that point in time, but if you have mold elsewhere that you can't see or get to, then those products won't kill that or prevent regrowth as it quickly spreads back from the unreached areas. With Green Home's product, it's more like with insect fumigation, so they treat the worst areas on contact and then spread the treatment that is an enzyme that continues eating other mold, to cover anything airborne or that you can't see/reach. Although I will warn you that the treatment may damage the paint around areas that have significant growth on them. The paint cracked quite a bit around my air vents, but they warned me that it would before they did that, so I knew what I was getting. I'm not sure if traditional mold treatment methods do that or not, but I guess I figured that with mold all around two of my vents (where the AC comes out most concentrated) that it made complete sense that removing it effectively would damage the paint underneath. The treatment did not damage the paint job in the rest of the house at all, just in those few highly concentrated spots. I recommend moving or covering any furniture or clutter that is underneath concentrated spots, because I forgot to do that this most recent time they came and I ended up with chips of paint all over some clutter that was under one of the ceiling vents, because I completely forgot that part. The first time they treated my house, they did air testing afterwards to ensure that the air did not have more mold in it, and when mine did, they treated again at no cost and helped me figure out why it wasn't working optimally. It turned out that in addition to the unsealed crawl space, several of my windows were OPEN at the top by about an inch, behind the top of the blinds where I couldn't see. The windows are old and the top halves weren't staying up anymore, but I had no idea. I had only owned my first home for about a year, and the windows not staying closed hadn't come up in the inspection. They recommended replacing the windows or adding dowel rods to hold them up, and they also recommended I get a dehumidifier, and told me what range of humidity I should keep it under to slow any future mold growth. Then they came back and tested again after the second treatment and it was all good! Mold regrowth started again about 3-3.5 years after the treatment, but I knew it would, and I'm certain that a standard kind of mold treatment would have had it regrowing sooner. I admittedly waited for it to get worse again because I needed to save up to do another treatment, so I just had it redone in Feb 2025, as well as having my car treated. The young men who came out to do the treatments were so kind, thoughtful and careful. My only complaint was that they forgot to reattach one of my vents, and two screws were missing and it was on the ceiling over my stairs so I couldn't put a step stool up to replace it myself, but I called to let them know and they apologized and sent someone out to put it back up and brought extra screws. Not a big deal and an easy fix. After these two treatments, I forgot to schedule the follow up air quality testing and I just reached out yesterday because there is a bit of mold regrowth in the car (it is a broken down car that's not getting used, so it's hard to keep it from stagnating) and they said they'd be happy to come do a quick refresh on the car and then test inside the house to make sure everything is good after this past treatment. They really are so great to work with, and I highly recommend.
