I explained to the person on the phone that I had some loose sealed Pokemon booster packs that I wanted to sell and asked if they were interested and if they buy them. They told me they would have to examine that packs in person (not an issue) in case of resealing/tampering but if the inspection went ok they would buy them. After this, I made the drive up since it seemed worth my time. Once I arrive with the packs, he tells me since they loose packs, and not in sealed boxes, that they weren't too interested (different response than the phone call) but that he would look up prices and give me an offer. Another employee showed up and immediately started saying that they automatically were to assume these 3 packs were weighed and possibly x-rayed. Keep in mind, Japanese packs cannot be weighed for "hits" as Japanese anti gambling laws make it so that every pack has to contain a hit, unlike vintage English packs where weight can give away holos/hits. So this place handles TCG's but apparently are not knowledgeable on the topic. Also, paying hundreds/thousands to x-ray 3 booster packs seems a bit ridiculous if I'm trying to sell them. As the initial guy I spoke to was looking up prices, I pulled out a slabbed PSA 4 charizard to ask if they would be interested in it as I was starting to feel my trip would be for nothing. The guy took the graded card and started shaking it constantly to show that the card was a bit loose inside the slab, it's a card from 1997 inside a slab that is over 15+ years of age so with time the card has come loose inside so it moves around a tiny bit, even though a simple wobble or slight back and fourth movement would have been enough. After this he walks to the back after telling me they would still give me an offer on the packs. Then the first guy asks me what I was looking to get for them and I mentioned that I know they have to make profit as well, so anything in the 70-80% market price range would be doable for me. He told me the most they could offer was 20% market value and that they didn't say this over the phone because they don't discuss numbers (understandable) but even a range/estimate on % would've been very reasonable as I've dealt with many shops before and never had an issue like this. He was also sure to mention that they don't discuss this over the phone so that they "dont waste their time." 20% market value for vintage packs was an absolute disrespectful offer to make me, and also a huge disrespect for a possible future customers time which they clearly don't value the same as their own time. This place felt more like a scummy pawn shop than a TCG/collectible store. I've sold, purchased and played TCGs in many shops before and this was by far the worst experience I've ever had in one. Would not recommend this place.

They always have geeky music on too.

The games cafe was empty except for the nice guy trying to interest people in playing games. All the fantastic pinball machines are GONE. The only game left was a video "Simpson's" game. My son played with the other kids whose family made an hour + trip with a bag of quarters. It was such a disappointment. Pretty please use your Megabrains to bring back pinball!

A very cool comic shop with a lot to offer for comic fans…read more With their ever-present Halloween decor and surprisingly organized interiors, Gotham Comics is not your run of the mill comic shop. From new issues to back log, everything has a neat and tidy place, making browsing quick and effortless. They place a variety of mid-level rare comics ranging in price from $15 to $40 near most of the comic shelves, which make for both excellent window shopping and dangerous impulse purchases. They have a nice selection of old and new comics, mostly from DC and Marvel, so Gotham might not be great if you're looking for more obscure or niche comic brands. Similarly, this is a comic shop first, and things like games have a small presence. I also have to mention the staff working at Gotham. The employee was super helpful, going above and beyond in looking for issues that I couldn't immediately find. He made my visit feel extra special. The only downside with this comic shop is that it isn't located closer to my home! Otherwise I'd go there every week!

But if you're looking for mainstream new releases, chances are you'll find them on release day (maybe the week after too). Not too much else to look at, especially collectibles, so your visit will probably be a whole lot shorter than other comic book shops (which is better for your wallet). But if you're in the area and you're in a pinch for that new Batman comic, this is your place. It was a hot day when I visited and they just had a couple floor fans running. Nothing gets me out of a comic book shop faster than sweaty hands on loose/unbagged books. And for parking, expect to circle around a couple times (plan to pay for a meter). The store was empty and as we walked toward the back, there was a gentleman sitting in a small office. He grunted at us when we greeted him. When we told him we were there to see about some free comic books he said those were just for kids. When we told him why we were there - seeking donations for Comic Books for Justice, he grunted again. Whether he would like to donate or not, or agrees with our mission or not, it was the rudest customer service I have experienced in a long time. Had he shown even the smallest inkling of kindness, my wife and I would have shopped the store and likely made some decent purchases. In any event, be warned. This is not a nice guy and not a very nice place.

I have been stopping at a board game shop in every town I have been visiting. This was the best one…read morenear Parsippany, NJ we were visiting for a convention. This was in Booton, NJ, on the way back to Syracuse, NY. The shop was a large room with tables for open gaming and tournaments, and the walls were lined with merchandise for sale--ranging from board games to trading cards. There was plenty of light, and the people playing Magic towards the back were very friendly and welcoming. The gentleman behind the counter was very nice! The coolest part is you can ask for the secret password, based on a quest posted outside the space down the road a little bit, and you can get into the Gaming Lounge addition. When you go in to the Gaming Lounge, it feels like you're stepping into some kind of hobbit hole, and the further back you go, the more space there is to play games with friends. There is even a fireplace! The space is super cozy and features a huge wall of games to play with friends. If I lived anywhere near by, I would go to this shop all the time! The cards they sold were even reasonably priced, so I also love that.

The shopkeeper listened intently while I told him what kind of gaming experience I was looking for. But it didn't go a lot farther than that. I wanted something narratively heavy, with less rule complexity and overhead than Lord of the Rings: Journeying through Middle Earth. He didn't really have an answer for me, and I felt I gave him a lot to work off of. To give you an idea how small this place is - the pictures in this review represent half the games in the store. There's one extra bookshelf that I didn't catch and there's a display case in front with CCG cards. Shopping experience aside, you can tell this place has a good community. There were four tables occupied in the back around 4 PM on a Saturday - maybe representing 10 people - and there's a big communal shelf you can draw from if you want to play in house. I'd come back to play and make new friends.
