We visited Epicure last week. It was the first time visiting since it had been "remodeled" from the old Fantail seafood. The first thing we noticed was the place was pretty dark both in the lighting and the interior. We were greeted right away and seated. April was our server and was very knowledgeable with the items on the menu. We ordered and it didn't take long for our food to arrive hot and fresh. April checked on us regularly. Did I mention that the place is pretty dark? I had to use my phones flashlight to read the menu. With that being said, the food and service was very good and the prices were very reasonable. I've eaten lunch here for the past 3 days. I have gotten the meat and 3 on every occasion. Tuesday I got the hamburger steak, greens, mashed potatoes and gravy and the Italian donuts with the caramel sauce. The food was good however the hamburger steak was overcooked and dry and the gravy was thin and watery. Wednesday I got the country fried steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, Spanish corn casserole and mac n cheese. The casserole wasn't very good and I didn't finish it however the mac n cheese was very good. Thursday I got the meatloaf, mac n cheese, okra and mashed potatoes and gravy. The meatloaf is wrapped in bacon and covered with a Masterpiece type BBQ sauce. It was good but a little dry from being a little overcooked. The gravy on the mashed potatoes Wednesday and Thursday was nice and thick. The best sides by far have been the mashed potatoes, mac n cheese and okra. The greens needed more seasoning. Overall though the food is pretty good and the atmosphere is very nice and upscale. There is however some deceit on the ticket. There is a claim that you get a discount for paying cash but you don't. You just don't pay a surcharge for using a credit card. This place has a lot of potential to be a great restaurant. They need to work on the consistency and drop the sides that aren't very good. read more

Wife & I decided to give Epicure & Jack's Tavern a try on a Saturday evening. Arriving around 6:30pm, we did not have to wait for a table more than a couple of minutes. Our server, PeeWee, quickly took our drink orders and put in for an appetizer of Fried Green Tomatoes. My wife got the Bikini Martini and I asked for an Old Fashioned. While I enjoyed my drink, my wife was not a fan of hers. The FGTs were excellent and we very much enjoyed them before our entrees. She had the Red Jumbo Shrimp Platter and I ordered the Chicken Parmesan. Both of us asked for the Senior portion and found both entrees to be plenty of food. The cocktail sauce for her shrimp was excellent, and she enjoyed both the shrimp and the side of fries. I thought the chicken was seasoned very well and complimented the pasta nicely. The marinara sauce was good, not extraordinary. Overall, we were both very satisfied with the quality of food and portion size. The service provided by PeeWee during our visit was very good. He was friendly, answered questions and was knowledgeable of the menu items and restaurant. Good dude! We enjoyed the atmosphere of the waiting area and the restaurant. It's obvious that the owner has put a lot of time and effort into crafting a somewhat eclectic and interesting atmosphere. There's pictures/paintings on the ceiling, seafaring decor around the place and many antique pieces. Pretty cool. Oh, and a H.R. Giger painting in the men's bathroom LOL. The tavern side of the place has a substantial bar and was somewhat raucous with the number of people in there along with a small jazz band. Overall, a very unique and cool vibe. We look forward to our next visit to try other drinks and food! read more

First off this place is great! The menu changes!! Which is so nice! I posted them bc I wanted people to see the type of food they offer. Really impressed with the whole experience. Service 10/10 (A.Jenkins) she recommended some good food, food 10/10 atmosphere 10/10. I travel a lot and get to experience a lot of different restaurants and I'm a foodie. I really search out the best food in the area. This place is now my local favorite. The bread was bread. It's was a good hunger breaker if you didn't get an appetizer. I had the Trigger fish with Shrimp and my wife had the Philly and fries. Both were great. I was a little skeptical at first but I was quickly surprised. Food came out fast and delicious! They talk about the steaks so next time steak will be ordered. It's a big place and it feels like it's two places in one. A tavern and a restaurant. If you are looking for a drink and live music on Friday and Saturday this is the place to go as well. I would have to say it could be the best restaurant in the whole area. We frequented Epicure several times, but will never be back after the bad treatment from the owner. We took 3 friends because we loved the place, but one of the people had an allergy to shrimp. If you have an allergy to any food, I don't recommend stepping foot in here. The owner will belittle you and make fun of you for having a food allergy. He offered to bring chicken that had been cooked in a pan, and that would have been great if the chicken wasn't pink in the middle. He definitely needs a course in customer service. Fan Tails was much better. Do not recommend the new place. This account is very accurate. You served my friend chicken that was pink in the middle after you made fun of her for being allergic to shrimp. You also belittled our whole group of 5. You even yelled at me on the way out the door. Don't say this didn't happen because it most certainly did happen. If you have a food allergy, DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE! read more

It was my first time going to this location at the recommendation of a coworker, but unfortunately it would be my last. The service could have been better. The server seemed very rude and didn't seem welcoming throughout the evening. My friends who ordered soup came out cold, and my entree was completely forgotten until near the end of the evening. Another friend's entree had a mix up between chicken and shrimp. What also seemed inappropriate was that my friend's checks were provided even before their desserts came out. As someone who worked in food and beverage before, this wouldn't be appropriate especially since a mandated tip was part of the bill. Overall, a pass for me. read more

Ladonna was a fabulous bartender/server. She was friendly, pleasant, professional and efficient. And she struck the perfect balance of being attentive and overbearing. The menu looks fabulous but we were only in need of a snack tonight. Calamari was light, crisp and hot. Nice touch throwing in some thinly sliced breaded peppers. The homemade Italian Vinaigrette dressing was delicious (but next time I would ask for it on the side). The shredded parm thrown in was an excellent addition to a verified salad. Back again the following night. Taylor and Shelly handled a very busy bar like a well oiled machine. Great teamwork. The pork chop was fabulous. (Not traditionally flavored but delicious). however, $8.00 for a "loaded" potato seems pricey but it was good and the price was clearly stated so no legitimate complaint, I guess. The scallops were cooked to absolute perfection. Delicious! The pesto dressing the fettuccini however was creamy pesto not straight up pesto . Different. The "light sauced"request was not honored. My wife liked her chicken pasta dish. I had fried shrimp and triggerfish. Never had triggerfish before. It was good. Cooked good and like restaurants cook fish. I like my fish dryer. No fault of theirs. It's a personal preference for me. The shrimp was not cooked all the way. Fries were warm, not hot. Prices are pretty steep. Had an excellent waitress. The first time I went the food was very mediocre but I liked the atmosphere and I am here working for an extended amount of time so I was determined to find a place to feel like home. I went again tonight and had A very bland chicken parm sandwich and a couple of beers. This was at 5pm on Halloween. When I got my tab at 6:00 it was $59.00. Seemed high but I'm used to that and went ahead and added a 20% tip for my bartender that gave me good service. When looked harder at the bill I realized that they charged me a 25% "tip for band". There was NO BAND! I immediately scratched out my tip. I feel bad for the bartender. She can collect it from the band if she can find them. I couldn't. The owner should be ashamed! You are hurting your servers. I own a bar in SC and we pay for our bands, not our customers. read more

I highly recommend eating the baked potato ("loaded" if you choose) skin and all - crispy and salty. Dined here for the first time on a Tuesday night and it was early so there were only two other tables occupied. I was greeted promptly by the hostess who offered to sit me at the bar (why do they do this for people who wait to be seated?) and I opted for a table. I perused the menu for a few minutes and enjoyed the Sinatra Sirius XM music and the unique decor. The decor is very casual but the prices are not. I did think that the menu had a good variety of choices but I was pretty surprised at the prices ($8.50 for a loaded baked potato) for example. The server approached me after a tolerable wait and took my drink order and I told her I was ready to order my entree as well. I saw on the top of the menu in very small print that the meals included ONE complimentary piece of bread and more would cost $2.99/piece. That really rubs me the wrong way particularly when I didn't receive any bread at all. It's just a level of arrogance I don't appreciate that they are so proud of bread..good grief. I opted for the "blackened" triggerfish which is served ala carte so any side dishes cost $4 - $8 extra. I opted for onion rings and I asked the server if they were home made and she said that they were. I was really looking forward to the meal as I love triggerfish and I love blackened fish so what could go wrong? The entree arrived about 15 minutes later which I was pleased with. The fish looked like it had been grilled and there was zero appearance of blackening seasoning. I also like to have lemon on my fish and there was none on my plate. I asked the helper who delivered my food if she could bring me some. She said she would and left my table. She never brought it out. I at my onion rings for a few minutes and waited..and waited..and waited. Since my Triggerfish was getting cold I walked into the bar area and my server appeared out of the kitchen and I asked her for the lemon. She returned to the kitchen and brought it out to me without apologizing or taking notice that I had to leave my table to ask for. Very poor attention to detail. So, I had half way finished my onion rings (they were good) but the Triggerfish was a HUGE disappointment. It was overcooked and tough. There was no discernable blackening or cajun spice flavor at all. It was just bland and cold..perfect combination (sarcasm). Actually the highlight of the meal was the deep fried "stone ground grit cake" which seemed to be grits and cheese breaded and deep fried. I thoroughly enjoyed that. The onion rings were good but the fish was not good at all. At $30, it should have been excellent. Far from it. I ordered a soft drink so my bill with tax and tip was over $50. It wasn't worth half that. As I said, there were virtually no other customers and having to wait for refills and lemon is just ridiculous. The entire experience was very disappointing and indicates that there is weak management and no attention to detail. No way I would ever return. read more

Seemed a little tucked away off the busy road, but the amount of cars out front told me this was a pretty good spot for lunch. Wow! Delish, delish, delish! What a hidden gem. I was just traveling through and found this gem. Only a mile from Highway 65. The chicken parm was incredible - chicken was cooked, cheese was plentiful and gooey and seasoned perfectly. And the carrot cake was off the charts. They make their own cakes and cheesecakes and they all looked so good, it was difficult to choose, but I think I chose well.
