The 243 Restaurant in Prattville was an amazing experience from start to finish. The service was truly top-notch -- our server kept the pink lemonade flowing, which we definitely appreciated during our late Saturday brunch. I ordered the French dip sandwich with au jus. At most restaurants, the au jus can be bland or forgettable, but this one was rich, full-bodied, and incredibly flavorful. It elevated the entire sandwich. My husband and sons each ordered the chicken and waffles, and not a single bite was left behind. Every piece was eaten -- which says everything. My only small criticism would be that the thick-cut fries could have used just a few more seconds in the fryer. Other than that, perfection. For four of us, the total came to around $80 before tax and tip -- an excellent value for the quality of food, service, atmosphere, and location. We will definitely be back. read more

Wonderful Ambiance 9.5 Bar a little large Excellent service 9.9 Food selection was challenging the appearance was okay but questionable.my Ribeye steak was something that looked as though they got it from Waffle House. Rather thin and rubbery. I requested it with Grilled onions and mushrooms I got a mound of Mush gravy spread over the steak (spread because it was a failed attempt at a Gravy). With raw onions in it. The menus were faintly printed in small script font the seating arrangement is a bit overcrowded as well. We had to move our TABLE for a gentleman in another party to sit at his table. We felt intruded throughout the remainder of our dinner. Their conversation was literally ours. 243 South definitely has the vision of the assignment to bring the next level dining experience to a small town. Lunch with a friend in this delightful restaurant which also sells wine retail. The interior is modern chic, light and airy. There is an area that is the wine bar, serving wine by the glass, or bottle, a nice place to meet your friends after work and share a charcuterie board. Although they have several salad choices to which you can add your choice of protein, I opted for the Chicken Milanese, because I was hungrier than usual. It was delicious. Delicious all the way around. We ordered the charcuterie board which had an excessive variety of Jesus, meats., jelly and other. Both a Caesar salad, and wedge salad. Both salads were delicious. Loved the addition of fried onion rings and jalapeño to the wedge salad. Our main entrées consisted of the chipotle steak bowl as well as the salmon bowl. Fantastic service. Delicious food. Love that a historic building was improved from its former life and is now a trendy restaurant and wine bar (and retailer). I have only been for lunch, but 243 serves Brunch, wine and appetizers/shareables, desserts and coffees, and a rotating seasonal menu. For lunch they have salads, rice bowls, lunch specials and entrees. I needed more veggies, so I had a Caesar salad with shrimp. Dressing was very tasty. And my half and half tea was brewed!! Our server was attentive and brought us new tea glasses when we were 3/4 low. Thank you! read more

Was traveling and found this place on internet search. Seemed like a nice place to stop. We found the menu to be very limited and pricey ( didn't mind the price if the food was great) . Unfortunately the okra fries we ordered were hard to eat as they cooked the okra whole and they used to large of pieces for this. They only tasted ok. We ordered the shrimp pasta and the taste was just ok , not exceptional by any means . A little too Marinara for me . Bread was hard , nothing was served with it. read more

This was my first visit, and I came in with high expectations based on several positive recommendations from friends. Upon arrival around 1 PM, I absolutely loved the quaint, cozy atmosphere and appreciated being seated right away. Our waitress greeted us promptly, which was a great start. However, the experience began to decline after we placed our order. After some time, we noticed that several guests who arrived after us had already received their food. Eventually, our server returned to let us know they were out of hamburgers, which was disappointing, so the order was changed to the French dips. The fried green tomatoes arrived first--they had good flavor, but unfortunately were not hot or crispy, which would have made them much better. After another 30 minutes without our entrées, a manager (I believe) came over, apologized, and offered a complimentary shrimp and grits dish, noting they only had three shrimp remaining. While the gesture was appreciated, it also reflected some kitchen challenges. When our food finally arrived, none of it was hot--everything was lukewarm at best. The French dip lacked seasoning, and the broth was quite bland. By that point, it was already around 2:30 PM, so we chose to just eat rather than continue waiting. Overall, while the ambiance and initial service were great, the long wait times, limited menu availability, and food quality issues made this visit disappointing--especially given the strong recommendations I had heard. We were trying this for a Sunday after church brunch. I have to admit the photos were much more high rating than the actual experience. The food we were served looked nothing like the photos. French toast was dry and much thicker than the picture(which was why I chose them) My husband loves a good salmon eggs Benedict. The eggs were more of a boiled egg and the salmon was not smoked.The grits he had as a side were unflavored.My son had the chicken and waffles and did clean his plate. The server was nice. Our first visit here and yeah, they stumbled a couple of times, but you know what...they owned the mis-steps and worked to correct things. This, in and of itself, set them apart from establishments that offer only excuses. Many have mentioned the noise level, do not expect an intimate conversation setting, this was "sports bar" loud and difficult to carry on a conversation across the table. Now, the food and service; top notch. The pace of the meal was perfect and we felt unhurried. Appetizer arrived, then removed. Entrees arrived and we were adequately checked in on, not hovered over. We were a party of eight and they quickly seated us at a large high top table near the bar which was perfect for a group of golfers. We tried the rib eye, filet, salmon and chicken. Everyone raved about their dinners. Our server Brittany was great. She quickly accommodated our requests and was still cheerful when we requested separate checks. Very nice dining experience, the changes inside are wonderful for ambiance and comfort. This was our first time with the new 243 South and we enjoyed it. The menu was simple but complex, we tried the French onion soup which was perfect as was the Caesar salad. For the main course we chose the ribeye which came out cooked to order. For us no additional seasoning was needed for anything which is a good sign the chef and team are focused to deliver perfect courses. Thank you, we will be back. read more
