We're a young married couple - foodies to the core. So moving from Greenlake to Edmonds was fraught with fear of losing our large host of delicious go-to places for happy hour and bites. However, we have been so happy with downtown Edmonds, and Epulo in particular. Their happy hour menu is just fantastic. Always a nice selection of beer, decent house wines, a fantastic home-muddled ginger to pair with higher-end house bourbon. Their happy hour bites are reasonably priced for the portion size and quality. Can't miss the cauliflower, and on a cold day the shortrib papardelle is rich and satisfying. My aunt from the East Coast found this wonderful bistro. I had a French Chardonnay that was incredible. We had a pizza for appetizer and I had the chicken dish. I agree, the dessert is a must. Debra our server gave high quality service and has a deep understanding of individual food items and how they are prepared. She made great suggestions of the red wines too. The place has potential... the flavors are good but two times we were there the chicken was undercooked! Which is crazy because chicken is definitely not a medium-rare-type-of-meat and it is so easy to cook it anyway! After asking to finish cooking the chicken, waitress brought it back 30 seconds later barely any better. This cute restaurant in downtown Edmonds is a great place to stop for lunch. The owner is very attentive, and I loved the specialty pizzas (we ordered 2 and shared). My husband was not a fan of the polenta fries (I liked them), but he loved his sandwich. The dessert with the chocolate shots and cookies was clever, and the cookies surprised me by being shortbread-ish, which I liked. I'm at something of a disadvantage in writing this review, because I ordered the short ribs for my dinner and it was so breathtakingly wonderful everything else about the meal has receded from memory. The short rib (only one, but it was huge) had obviously been cooked very gently and was more tender than any I'd ever even imagined - and I make pretty good short ribs myself. It was served with a wine reduction sauce and mashed potatoes both of which complemented the short rib well but didn't make any special impression. I have some memory of a large fresh salad with pancetta and a nice dressing, good bread with olive oil and an aged balsamic dipping plate, a nice by-the-glass shiraz. The service was friendly and capable, the price was reasonable, and the ambience is visually pleasant and not over-loud. The hard wood benches are not as uncomfortable as one would expect, but some cushioning would be nice. But that short rib - what an experience! I can't wait to repeat it, and see if it really can happen twice. Several other items on the menu sound interesting, but how will I ever know? read more

Very Nice After a glass of wine at Dahne's, we looked for a place to have dinner early on a Sunday night. We got lucky with Epulo just up the street. Everything we tried was excellent: lamb skewers, clams with chorizo, mushroom bisque and the NY strip with bacon and mushrooms. We had excellent salads as well. We were served in the bar and the bartender and other wait staff were superb. This restaurant would hold its own in Seattle or anywhere else. For Edmonds, it's excellent. read more

Came here right after purchasing my wedding dress with my mom and maid of honor, and boy, was it the perfect place to discover! We didn't sit down and eat a full meal, but instead opted to enjoy the bar and take advantage of happy hour. I loved the atmosphere, low lighting, rustic but chic decor, lots of wood paired with dark metal, edison bulbs (I adore!) etc. The bartender was incredible, kind, funny and engaging. Coming down from the high and stress of wedding dress shopping we didn't know what to order, so he made us one of his specialties, not on the menu, but worthy of cocktail awards (if there is such a thing) many times over - a basil pear martini with a honey rim - we're talking knock your socks off incredible people. A must sip! Clean flavors, slightly complex, not too sweet or too busy, exactly what a cocktail should be. And he just kept the amazingness coming, that guy has some serious cocktail talent! I dare say they're the best libations I've ever had the pleasure of sipping, from Seattle to New York! Off of the happy hour food menu we ordered the short rib pizza and roasted cauliflower, both absolute bar food perfection. Cheesy, crispy, salty, smoky. That pizza, oh that pizza! Perusing the dinner menu was a delight, there wasn't a a dish I wouldn't be excited to order. And the plates that came through bar headed towards the dining room looked absolutely incredible. We will be back many times I'm sure, both for a great drink and fantastic food! I sure wish we had a place even close to this caliber here in Bellingham. Epulo is well worth the trip! read more

I have been to Epulo a couple times now. Overall, I would say this restaurant is great. We have always had great service, and their happy hour offers a great variety of drinks and food. The entrees are fairly generous sizes and the salads are great. The atmosphere is very posh and modern. My only complaint with the restaurant is oftentimes I have noticed the food to be EXTREMELY rich. The last two times I felt sick to my stomach about a half an hour after eating. The pastas are presented nice, but again, much too rich for my taste. Some may like this though. Give it a try if you are in the area though. read more

Wow, an awesome little bistro in Edmonds that has really well crafted food. Four of us spent $250 and had a fun filled six hours from drinks to dessert. Every item was delicious and a good value. Don't miss the Cauliflower appetizer and Grapefruit martini....the tortellini was a religious experience, the wagyu ribeye an oralgasm.. So to speak... a not outrageous but high $15 dollar corkage fee, the house wine list was very good... Lots of premiere local wines. A new stop for us, but we will be back repeatedly. Epulo's ambience overshadow's it's minimal menu. A first glance inside predicts a delightful meal. However, upon seating, I was shocked at the limited offerings for different tastes. I ordered the pasta with clams and was shocked at the small plate (and this wasn't off the "small plates" menu section) that was presented. Perhaps a 1/2 cup of undercooked pasta with perhaps 10 clams. The music, although lovely, was far too loud considering how close to tables the pianist sat. Would I try it again? Perhaps. Maybe for lunch, or brunch. But definitely not dinner. read more

Dessert is the most important part of the meal in my book - I love the oatmeal shot and oatmeal cookie - excellent way to cap off a meal! My favorite dish is the wild mushroom pizza. This was our first visit to the new restaurant and we had great hopes. We were seated at one of the booths with wooden bench seating. It was very uncomfortable and asked if they had regular table available. We were able to move. But the regular table just had one regular chair and the other seat was a another very uncomfortable bench seat. There appeared to be only one table in the restaurant that had chairs only. We both ordered the Pear and Brie salad to start. The plating was nice but the dressing was very bland. When the owner or manager came by and asked about the salad we did mention the taste of the dressing. He said he would check with the kitchen. He came back and said the problem with the dressing had been corrected and offered to bring us new salads and would not charge us for the two we were served. We did appreciate the manner that problem was handled. We were brought a small portion of the small so we could try it was the proper dressing. The dressing was better on the second try. Our orders were the short ribs and the pasta with clams. Again the plating for both dishes was nice but the favorers were just okay. The meat of the short ribs was very tender but didn't have a lot of favor and the demi sauce was just so so. The sauce with the pasta and clams was just so so. We did have their panna cotta for dessert and it was very good. While we were at the restaurant several people did order the pizzas and they looked very good and from the reactions of those eating the pizza they apparently were very good. I don't usually like to compare restaurants but I do have to say that the food prepared by Shell Creek was much better. Hopefully Epulo can improve on some of the short comings with the sauces and dressings. I was really looking forward to a new restaurant in Edmonds but from our first visit this was a disappointment. read more

So if you have not been here yet....you need to go ASAP! I've been here for both dinner and brunch, and was amazed at how delicious everything was. The head chef Shubert was extremely personable and came up to our table to ensure that everything was to satisfaction. Their cured meats are phenomenal, but you cannot go wrong with whatever you order. The ambiance of the restaurant is great, definitely a good place to go with friends or a night out with that special someone :) The bottom line, you need to check this place out it will not disappoint! I love the Happy Hour Menu. LOVE it. Can't go wrong with anything on it. and it is a great price! My personal favorite is the Short Rib Papperdelle....creamy, great portion, lots of shorts rib with great al dente pasta, and a glass of the Syrah and I am heaven, add the little Zeppole with caramel sauce and life is awesome. I go there as often as I can, it is mine and Hubby's date night spot. :) For Brunch the Prosciutto Benedict is hard to beat! read more

Edmonds is a retirement community, so finding good drinks, interesting decor and non-bland food is a real treat. My wife and I were seated at a very small table where there was a couple on either side of us. We could hear their conversations during the entire meal. Even with a reservation that was made a week earlier, it did not make a difference regarding the seat selection. The food was ordinary. We had the margarita pizza that tasted just like any frozen pizza you could buy at the grocery store. The service was good and the atmosphere was nice. I went with a couple of girlfriends last night during happy hour, and had the most amazing truffle fries and mixed drinks. I have been a few times with the hubby too, and they consistently have gone way above and beyond with the food and drink quality and service. I am pretty picky about my mixed drinks, and I would say their drinks are some of the best I've ever had. During the fall, I had a pumpkin martini from FRESH pumpkin puree that was to die for. Love this place for late night happy hour. Their food is to die for, especially the flat bread with carmelized onions. The normal bartender there (forget his name) is the best part about going in there. Sit at the bar and watch him make some fantastic cocktails. And I love their Truffle popcorn. Be mindful of when they close though, sometimes they close early, and if they're closed, it is so rude when you ask for things anyways "just this once???".
