Had to come to NY for work for a month in the middle of COVID. Found this gym by accident. What a find! The place is immaculate! VERY well equipped. They are constantly disinfecting. Extremely important to me because I am in healthcare. But the #1 thing about this place are their workers. Super friendly, helpful and caring. I spoke to one of their trainer's, winter. Rare you find people this knowledgeable. I belong to a place back home and having this place to compare to puts my gym back home to shame. Recently joined Equalize. I was excited to try all the new equipment. I'm coming from Blink Fitness who didn't have any free weights whatsoever. The staff is really nice and so are the members. I even received a free shake from their smoothie bar for registering which was really yummy! The only thing I don't like about this gym is the weights are unorganized. You have to play mix and match with the dumbbells. Also, the weights on the cable machine feel a bit odd. A lot lighter than they should be. I honestly wish I'd stumbled across this gym sooner as it's everything I could hope for in a facility. It offers a variety of different training modalities from free weights to machines. I loved the fact that it's geared towards athletic activities too with an extensive indoor space for dynamic warmups and sprints. But the best part of the experience for me was Lisa. She was extremely warm and welcoming! She made every patron feel at home and was very helpful in answering any and all questions. Michael the owner and all the staff are fantastic! It's a perfect gym - open, clean and airy yet you are greeted with a small time vibe (friendly and helpful). The gym has a mix of everything from cable machines to free weights, plated machines and cardio. The equipment is in great condition and if any need repairs, the team is quick to respond. My relationship with Equalize was short, but sweet. The Place: It's very clean and modern- especially the bathroom (you've GOT to check out the bathrooms). They have a nice range of machines (some with TVs attached), and a wide range of group classes scheduled. Only downside is that they didn't have a swimming pool. The front desk has a juice bar, which I never took advantage of. The People: The staff very friendly, and the clientele is regular, so it's easy to make new friends. There is ample parking for drivers, but for those who do not drive- it's a 5 minute walk to the Northbound #6 bus (southbound bus is a couple of minutes more, as you either have to walk to St. John's or the Foxfire School). My only complaint is that the monthly membership fee is a bit pricier than many other gyms. I couldn't keep up my membership b/c I am moving and gotta make cuts to extras. I've been going to this gym for just about a year now. I am usually there early mornings when the fitness director Christopher Daly is there working out. He goes out of his way to help people with tips and tricks on how to maximize each exercise and further explains which muscle(s) are impacted. I recently tweaked my shoulder and he has helped me with proper techniques and has provided me with specific exercises to strengthen my shoulder. I've been coming here for a few years on and off until i finally stuck to my fitness goals and it's been a solid 8 moths now. I love it here everyone is very nice and friendly. I personal train with Diego as well he's great. He pushes me and motivates me to reach realistic goals. That bathrooms are always clean with fresh towels. My trainer Vita is awesome! 5 stars for her. She is the best trainer I ever had (and I had a few) she goes above and beyond for you to feel your best every minute of her time with you. I learnt so many new ways with her even though I thought I was doing fine. she is very professional, knowledgeable and compassionate but also determined. She will explain everything to you and customize the best plan for you. I walk away feeling very good after a session with her and very motivated in my journey. Such mixed signals. Great bathrooms and then you walk into the aerobics room and 12 out of 14 of the the students were in better shape than the instructor. I couldn't bring myself to take a class. Treadmills are old and the belts slip. One of the trainers looks like he was groping his client. No sales people around to discuss membership. I just walked in with a friend and no one even asked for ID. I posted a pic of the gym floor with weights just thrown around. Nice layout, very clean, always friendly workers. I found them by purchasing a Groupon for fitness classes and took a few and enjoyed it. My favorite is the aerial lessons. They also have daycare that my daughter goes to when I'm in class that's only $5 and Ms Charlene is the best. My daughter now also goes to their gymnastics classes at gymcats on Saturdays and she loves it. I just wish their membership prices weren't so steep. It's the same cost of my current gym but they have a pool. read more

Love this gym, is clean, great classes, all the machines work great. The staff is friendly and helpful. The location is is ideal close to the parkway and businesses. They provide clean towls for your workout and showers. The women's bathroom is morden and very clean, they provide a scale, blow dryer, towls, shampoo/conditioner. They have a wonderful smoothie bar and if you have kids within the same building they have gym cats and parisi speed school. They also provide trainers who are very good and listen to their clients. What I like best about Equalize is the vibe. I get the feeling that everyone there, clientele and staff, are working for the same goal -- physical fitness. There's nothing else going on to distract me from that. My wife Susan and I have been training at Equalize, at least twice-weekly with Gerard, for nearly a year. We are very happy with our program. The facility is large and open, very well equipped, clean and well maintained, and pleasantly busy. Complaints are addressed promptly and professionally. I would have given the gym 4 or more stars a couple months ago but recently they started changing their spin classes to "virtual" spin. There aren't instructors even when it says there will be an instructor and they just play a video in the spin room. Very disappointing seeing how I initially joined because my friend highly recommeneded the spin classes. If I had to rank the gym based on the just the front desk it would be 5 stars. I left one of the cheaper gyms to come to Equalize fitness. I am not going to name names but you can figure out who I am talking about. Equalize is a bit more expensive but in my opinion it is worth it. The staff are professional not the immature staff that don't know how to conduct themselves in a work setting. The machines that I use are usually available with minimal wait times. I usually stick to cardio and weights but there are fitness classes if you like and they provide you with a fresh towel for your work out. The bathrooms are clean. CHUBBY PEOPLE BEWARE!! I have been on a fitness journey and recently lost 30 pounds. I am still on my journey to health and wellness despite this gym. The staff is incredibly friendly but the owner is a jerk. He was incredibly rude to me and made me feel terrible about my body. If you own a gym your goal is to encourage people to better themselves. He assumed I was not actually trying to better myself but that I was there for "entertainment". I felt like I was being fat shamed. He never treated my sister, a pageant queen, like that. She is pulling her membership and is devastated she has already spent as much money as she has there. He needs some serious sensitivity training and I couldn't support a fitness and health expert who demeans those who are at least making an effort. read more

Excellent instructors in the group classes do not stay here for long. Long term subpar fill ins have been brought in with the excuse that they are trying to higher new instructors. Dance and step classes were brought in from a near by closed gym and The instructor for those classes was also hired. She does not teach. There is a routine that she and 7 members from the other gym 'perform' and you will be on your own to pick it up. New body-pump and spin classes need to be added, but The person in charge of scheduling has stated several times that she doesn't like those classes. Also, there have been only 2 working toilets in the women's locker-room for months. On the positive, they provide towels and the members and service people are friendly. But don't expect any of the trainers to acknowledge your existence if you aren't paying for sessions. read more

I have to say this is probably one of the worst gyms I've ever joined. I have the ability to say that because I've been to many gyms due to traveling and moving. For the amount of money they charge which was nearly $250 just to join, I'd give this gym a slot right about a planet fitness. The aesthetic of the gym is very nice and walking in I thought it would be on the same scale as an Equinox and that's how they sell it to you. But for the price I paid, the gym is very ill-equipped, they have a limited amount of weights and I'm always having to look for them. They don't have an adequate area to fill up blender bottles or water bottle. The gym equipment is very limited and a few of the pieces of equipment are missing bars. I truly believe the only reason they received "best gym of Yonkers" award which was handed to them in 2014 is because it's really the only gym around and that's why I joined was because it's the only gym around. For the price I paid it was not worth it and I'm truly disappointed. I will not be staying long. read more

The gym is clean, the bathrooms are clean, the machines are modern, and there is absolutely no wait time on the cardio machines! Decent facility with standard, tired equipment, really mediocre locker room. Member for a number of years and consistently have had problems with freezing membership for my son while in college, and recently tried to cancel his and mine and kept getting a run around while they "neglected" to post the cancellation while I keep getting charged, which they refuse to remove. An ok gym if you must and it's convenient, definitely not worth making a trip for though. read more

The one horrible thing about this gym is that the sales people are liar (not shocking I know) & they wont answer your questions honestly prior to you signing up. I joined this gym & one of my first questions to the salesman Adam was what was the termination fee because I knew I would probably be moving in the near future he stated it was $75. A few months later I went in to cancel my membership & he charged me $150, I had called the day prior & was told it was $75 fee as well, but Adam decided to charge me extra I guess. I had previously heard other customers complaining about similar situation like for example putting your membership on hold is not as easy as they make it seem. I would definitely advice anyone joining this gym to ask as many questions as possible & get in writing all they promise you. read more
