I made an appointment for an Aescape massage after someone from their team contacted me. Before then, I had never heard of Aescape but looked into it and was shocked once I found out this was an AI robotic massage. I booked my spot at Equinox Bryant Park (my first time at any Equinox location) for a lower back, glutes and hamstring massage. The price for 30 min was $60 but Aescape gave me a code to try it out for free. For background, Aescape is a pioneering lifestyle robotics company aiming to revolutionize the wellness industry and reimagine how people get massages. The company boasts the benefit of a robot massage as "personalized, precise, and predictable." I arrived early for my appointment and when I checked in, I was given what to wear and the Equinox studio manager let me know there was a lounge area with seating and candles where I could wait until my appointment time. The "lounge" area in question was in a small hallway in the spa center with one chair, a few candles, and a tea and water cart. Fortunately, I brought a book. I made myself a cup of tea and read. About 15 minutes later a person came out of the room I assumed was where the Aescape massage was going to take place. The studio manager came down and walked me into the room and explained the entire process which was super easy to follow. I then changed into the required shirt and leggings (they were kinda cute and form-fitting for the purpose of the massage). I noticed that no one had come in to clean the table after the person before me left so I grabbed a few disinfecting wipes and cleaned the table where I was going to be laying. Here's how the process with Aescape goes: - After you change you lay face down on the cushioned massage table and begin to adjust the table and head rest on a screen that is right in front of your face. The prompts on the screen run through all the details and then it asks you to stay still as the scanners analyze and scan your body. - Once the scanning is complete, a reproduced X-ray image of your body shows up on the screen and counts down before the massage begins. The screen also shows you music to select from, adjust the pressure, what part of the body will be massaged (grouped by location), and for how long. You could also change the screen view from the x-ray to a relaxing scene such as water or a jungle. I chose to stick to the X-ray view and the rain sound playlist. - Two white orbs appear on your X-ray representing the two robot arms (one on each side of the table) and the orbs show you where the arms are massaging your body. It was so trippy at first. - It's important to stay still. If you move too much or put your arm or hand in the area of the robot arms, it stops immediately and you have to do a rescan and the massage picks back up where it left off. And that's basically the entire process. After your time/massage is done you get undressed and toss your top and leggings into the laundry basket in the room. Now for the feedback. First, the plus: - I can see this as an option for someone who either has an issue with or is hesitant when it comes to human touch, would prefer to be fully clothed during a massage, and/or has had an inappropriate experience during a massage with a person. It's a very solo experience and I can understand how that is appealing to some. Now for the not-so-fun stuff: - I had to clean the table myself - The screen is in your face the ENTIRE time. I book massages and wellness-related activities to get away from a screen so this was disappointing and took away from my overall relaxation. - This is not as "personalized" as Aescape claims. When you book or check in they don't ask you to fill out an assessment inquiring about many problems or target areas. It's an already curated massage that honestly did nothing for my lower back pain. Only 8% of my massage was focused on my lower back as per my treatment region breakdown. For $60 you'd hope that the front and back of your body will get treatment but it's only the back. So I can't justify the price for half an experience. - Lack of human interaction. I prefer having a qualified person doing my massage so I can communicate any problem areas. - Lack of immediate post-massage care instructions: I received an email with general post-massage care the following day which seems rather pointless. - After my massage finished and I was undressing, someone from Equinox walked in on me fully undressed! There was no apology or acknowledgment of the accident and I just quickly got dressed and left. (Obviously this has nothing to do with Aescape but I was still embarrassed and shocked that this person didn't think to knock before entering) Overall, I would not do this again. It's an innovative concept but there are too many negatives for me to recommend it. As I always say, it's for someone, just not for me.

I have not been able to use Crunch for about 2 months because of a serious medical issue. I provided medical documentation from my doctor's office confirming the condition and asked for a medical freeze. Crunch gave me a one-month "courtesy" freeze (a.k.a ended up being the month that I paid in advanced in signup, laughable it's called courtesy), but refused to extend it unless I go back to my doctors and get a separate custom doctor's note on letterhead specifically for Crunch, stating the recommended duration away from gym activity. This is a monthly gym membership. Not a disability benefits filing. Not a government agency. Not a court proceeding. A gym membership. The way this policy comes across is almost comical: even if you were dealing with terminal illness, better make sure you ask your doctor for the special Crunch gym paperwork on letterhead before you die, because apparently normal medical documentation is not enough!!!!!!! No common-sense exception. No discretion. No recognition that someone with a serious medical issue may not want to waste doctors' time generating custom paperwork for a gym freeze. To be fair, the local staff responded quickly and politely. But the policy is ridiculous and this experience was outrageous enough that it motivated writing a negative review.. You would expect less b.s. than this paying $120 a month "Signature" tier. Maybe it's not the local branch's fault, but change the disgusting "corporate policy" please.

Milan…read moreapproached me about becoming a trainer and invited me to work with him one-on-one after his 12:30 p.m. classes to help prepare me for the role. I entered this process expecting professional mentorship, constructive feedback, and a supportive environment. Instead, I experienced repeated belittling, harassment, and inappropriate behavior from someone who held influence over my opportunity to become a trainer. During my first class with Milan on June 22, 2026, he made an inappropriate comment after class that he "enjoyed the view" while watching me work out. I found this comment objectifying and completely unprofessional, especially coming from someone who had approached me about becoming a trainer. The situation escalated on July 15, 2026, during a practice session. Milan was dismissive and spent time on his phone while I was speaking instead of providing the attention and mentorship expected during training. He repeatedly referred to me as "green" and compared me to an "unripe fruit," using the comparison to diminish my abilities and credibility. He then told me, "It's ok, you're just not smart enough or fast enough." When I told him that those comments were inappropriate and untrue, instead of taking accountability he responded, "But it is true, it is fact." After we left the studio, Milan continued making inappropriate personal remarks, telling me I had "low self-esteem." This was unrelated to training and felt like another attempt to undermine my confidence and character. During the same interaction, he put his hand directly in my face, which I found invasive and cowardice. What is especially concerning is that Milan was the person who encouraged me to pursue this opportunity and offered to mentor me. When I asked questions and sought clarification during our one-on-one sessions, he later dismissed his role by weirdly saying, "I'm not your father" and "I'm not your personal trainer." My understanding was that these one-on-one sessions were intended for learning the format, asking questions, and receiving feedback so I could improve as a future instructor, especially because Milan had told me that the audition would not take place until August. Instead, expectations changed without clear communication, and I was met with criticism, dismissiveness, and harassment rather than the mentorship and support that had been offered. I brought my concerns to Liftonic's co-owner, Radan, but my concerns were not addressed and no accountability was taken. I believe he has a responsibility to address unacceptable behavior and ensure that the training environment is professional, respectful, and safe. Only insecure men feel the need to belittle strong and intelligent women to make themselves feel more powerful. A true mentor/trainer builds people up; they do not diminish others to compensate for their own shortcomings. A professional training environment should be built on respect, communication, and constructive feedback. My experience with Milan and Liftonic was the opposite. I would strongly caution anyone considering training here.

When you walk in, you are given some long shorts and a shirt in your size to change into in one of the three dressing rooms. You can then leave your belongings in one of the lockers and start your workout. Your instructor will wet a suit and then help you put it on and get all hooked up to the machine. This suit is a $5 one time rental or you can rent more permanently I believe. Afterwards, you will workout for 15-20 minutes doing some movements guided by your instructor, who also adjusts the intensity of the pulses the machine emits. They let me know this equals about 4 hours in the gym. The workout does get quite intense as most people are not familiar with the machine's pulsing sensations, but tensing your muscles does help! Afterwards, they encourage you to rest, stretch and drink water. There are showers available here as well. As I only went for the trial session and am not too familiar with this kind of fitness, I can't speak on the total efficacy of consistent sessions, but I will say the soreness I felt was real, and I imagine that this would probably be beneficial to some looking to diversify their training, especially those that might not have a full hour to devote to a workout that day. They're on ClassPass as well and super easy to book!

Unfortunately, my experience was one of the worst gym experiences I have ever had. When I arrived for my tour, the person who was supposed to give the tour wasn't there. Another employee named Mike stepped in. Before even getting to the tour, he started asking me a long series of questions. The entire interaction gave me a very uncomfortable feeling. The best words I can use to describe the experience are pretentious and patronizing. Instead of feeling welcomed, I felt like I was being interrogated. The questions kept coming one after another, and the overall tone made me so uncomfortable that I decided not to continue with the tour and left. Afterward, I texted Mike and explained how I felt. I told him that I felt interrogated and that the interaction had made me uncomfortable. To his credit, he apologized and offered for me to come back the next day for a tour and an hour-long training session. I agreed and returned the following Tuesday. What happened during that training session only reinforced my impression that the questions from the day before were not being asked from a place of genuine concern for my goals, health, or fitness journey. The reason I say that is because despite having spent a significant amount of time asking me questions the previous day, Mike appeared to remember virtually none of it. He asked me many of the exact same questions all over again. Even when I answered, it often felt like he wasn't really listening. The workout itself felt strangely structured. The first thing he had me do was get on a treadmill for 30 minutes. Personally, I usually stretch before working out because I believe in preparing and priming my body before exercise, but there was no stretching. I was simply put on the treadmill. While I was on the treadmill, he talked about being in a specific "fat-burning range." I am not convinced by that explanation and did not find it particularly convincing. He also told me that the walking I normally do is not enough. From my understanding, movement is movement, and fat loss primarily comes down to maintaining a caloric deficit. The advice left me questioning whether the information being presented was actually accurate. After putting me on the treadmill, Mike walked away. Thirty minutes later he came back and told me that this was not normally how he structures workouts and that normally exercise would come before cardio. That left me wondering why the session was being run this way in the first place. When we finally moved on to the exercises, I felt talked down to. For example, when he brought me to a hamstring curl machine, he asked whether I had ever seen or used a machine like that before. Maybe that question was innocent, but given the overall tone of our interactions, it came across as if he assumed I had never stepped foot in a gym before. What made that especially odd was that he had already asked whether I had a gym membership, and I had told him that I did. So being repeatedly spoken to in a way that felt dismissive or overly simplistic became frustrating. Another thing that stood out was the way the gym's equipment was discussed. GymU uses Panatta equipment, so I asked what specifically made the equipment special compared to equipment at other gyms. The answer I received focused primarily on the fact that it was expensive and that it was made by a famous bodybuilder. I was expecting an explanation about biomechanics, functionality, training advantages, or something related to performance. Instead, the emphasis seemed to be on prestige and price. Throughout the conversation, Mike repeatedly spoke about GymU as though it were the best gym in the world. Personally, I found that difficult to reconcile with my experience. There are many gyms with similar amenities and strong reputations, so I was left wondering what specifically justified that claim. After my training session, I used the sauna. In my opinion, it was surprisingly lukewarm. I barely broke a sweat. Then came the worst part of the entire experience. I went to take a shower, and when I stepped out, there were no mats or other visible slip-resistant surfaces where I exited. The floor was wet and slippery. I slipped, fell, and injured my right elbow. As I write this review, I have extremely limited mobility in that elbow. I have been doing nearly everything one-handed. I don't yet know the full extent of the injury, but the pain has been significant enough that it has affected my daily life, school responsibilities, and ability to get ready for my day. The experience was upsetting enough that I nearly had a breakdown from the frustration and pain. What disappointed me almost as much as th
