Had a great first private pilates session with Yera at Studio 26 today. The space is beautiful, well lit, well maintained and really clean and all the equipment was in great condition. What really made me want to leave a review though was how friendly and welcoming everyone was, from the receptionist, to the owner Jared, to the masseuse. No one was super salesy or pressuring you to sign up for stuff but rather just clearly really good at what they do (I'm a former semi-pro athlete and qualified personal trainer so am very fussy and know my fitness stuff pretty well) and want you to help you with your goals. Had a private Pilates session with Whitney Tucker - a wonderful experience on many levels! The first thing you notice when you walk in is how clean, serene, and beautiful the space is - someone clearly brushed up on their feng shui before designing the place. The lockers, changing rooms, and bathrooms are all meticulously clean and uncrowded. The session itself was great too - even as an eight-year yogini, I learned new things about my spine and my core from Whitney. Good use of props - makes Pilates even more interesting and fun. Whitney gave good feedback without being intrusive, and I felt like she was truly PRESENT the entire time. read more

This is a brand new fitness studio and wellness center that bills itself as eco-friendly. I've never encountered such a business concept before! But I like the philosophy. They offer pilates, yoga, massage, and personal training in a relaxed and friendly setting. I will write a lengthier review after I've had a chance to avail myself of their services, but I met the owner and had a look at the facilities, and I think it will be an extremely high quality place. The biggest attraction for me are their small class sizes. I think most yoga classes in New York basically suck, because they cram as many people into the room as possible, which creates too much discordant energy, with everyone moving at a different rate and no possibility for personal instruction. I've never done pilates, but I assume it's much the same with that. They seem to be taking a different approach at Studio 26, and I'm eager to see how it works out. I haven't figured out how affordable all this personal attention will be, so I'm hoping it's student budget friendly in addition to being eco-friendly, as much as I appreciate that. Shameless plug: they're located directly across the hall from Gary Snyder ProjectSpace, which doubles during three weekday evenings as my Aikido dojo and may interest some visitors to the fitness studio. Great place, Eco friendly gym with outstanding instructors. The place is brand new but I've been going to Jared for 3 years. Jared told me when i met him that it will take 10 sessions to feel better, 20 to start seeing changes in my body and 30 to completely transform my body. He wasn't kidding! Over the last 3 years I have seen my body change all for the good. I am stronger, fitter, toned, leaner and more flexible than I have been in years. I am always challenged and never bored. I look forward to every session and I enjoy watching myself get better. . I am 47 years and I can run circles around my friends. My husband and I did a couples private Pilates session with Whitney Tucker (co-owner) and the experience blew me away. I felt the difference in my body that very same day in rehearsal - and as a professional dancer for the past 13 years that is saying a great deal! Whitney is a terrific teacher - encouraging, very clear in her directions and very attuned to where you are at as an individual. I started going to Studio 26 to work with a specific trainer, Marimba. She's excellent, as is the space. It's clean and simple, while still architecturally interesting and responsibly green. I love the little touches of natural wood and greenery. sprinkled throughout the studio. The bathrooms are also always immaculate. The only problem, highlighted by other people below, is that it seems like it's hard to get an appointment. And they could definitely fill the space more. It always feels empty. It's nice to have that space, but I would give up a bit of it to be able to go more frequently. read more

I have been working with Whitney at Studio 26 and love it. The studio is beautiful and immaculately kept. They have a great assortment of machines and exercise equipment. I find Whitney an amazingly knowledgeable trainer who is intuitive, smart and creative. Our sessions are always different working on specific areas which need to be attended to. When you walk into Studio 26 you feel immediately nurtured. The beautiful space alone complete with a living wall, tons of light, bamboo floors, and great music made me feel good in the first 30 seconds I was there. I am a dancer and movement instructor who has been all over Manhattan and Brooklyn taking plenty of pilates, yoga and dance classes...but never have I found a staff is as smart and as helpful as Studio 26. Co-owner, Whitney, worked with me and spent time with me talking about my injuries (low back pain and two horrible knees). I immediately trusted her. Her knowledge and suggestions about how to work with my injuries were more informative than the physical therapist I've been seeing for years. Her ease and confidence in our session made me feel valued and nurtured, both in mind and body. She even gave me some homework to do (simple, effective and doesn't require a machine)! I love this studio. The interior is relaxing, full of light and eco-friendly with a beautiful plant wall. It makes it so easy to focus and receive the full benefits of my sessions. They also have a great variety of equipment and props that allow my trainers to keep my workouts fresh and innovative.
