5 stars - my go-to Equinox location Equinox Studio City is my home gym and I'm here pretty much every day. I've been to Hollywood, DTLA, West Hollywood, Glendale, Santa Monica, and Studio City is still my favorite overall. Biggest thing is cleanliness. For how busy this place gets, it's always maintained. Towels are always stocked, locker rooms are constantly being cleaned, and I've never walked into a shower that was out of products. There's always staff in there keeping everything in check. Another huge win is Erewhon Studio City right next door. You finish your workout and immediately have a solid post-workout meal ready. Nothing beats that. There's no Earth Bar here, but honestly you don't even need it because Erewhon is better. You do have to time your workouts though. Early mornings before 8am are the best, weekends early are even better and usually empty. After 9-10am it starts getting packed, and evenings around 5-7pm are honestly tough if you're trying to get a smooth workout in. People complain about parking because the plaza gets busy, but I've never had an issue. I go early, get a great spot, and I'm out before it gets crazy. One issue I've raised multiple times is people bringing oils into the steam room. When they pour it in, the whole place smells, it sticks to your body and hair, and I've had allergic reactions from it. It happens less now, but when it does it completely ruins the steam room. Feels like something that could be controlled better. The vibe here is more low-key, which I like. People mind their business and just work out. Compared to Hollywood, which can feel more social and sometimes uncomfortable, Studio City feels way more normal and focused. Front desk and trainers are hit or miss. Some are great, some don't even acknowledge you. Trainers here mostly keep to themselves unless you hire them, while other locations feel more welcoming. Not a dealbreaker, just noticeable. Music is at a good level too--it doesn't interfere with your headphones, which I appreciate. At the end of the day, I'm here daily for a reason. If you figure out the timing, this is one of the best Equinox locations in LA. read more

Almost $400 a month for a single floor gym? No thank you. I couldn't put my finger on it but something about this place just wouldn't allow me to relax. Something just felt very busy and crowded about the space. I never feel anxious working out .. and I gotta be honest I was expecting more. The gym floor just feels CRAMPED. All the cardio machines felt on top of each other. There's a mirror in the center of the floor by the dumbbells that doesn't look secure since it shakes when people drop weights or walk by .. what's that about? If you're someone that likes to do hiit or has your own routine where you just need a little section to exercise, they don't have that. There's people everywhere. There no turf or anything. There's a small stretching area next to the group exercise classroom if you're able to squeeze in and find a space. I do like that they offer theraguns for use in that stretching area. The locker room was probably the best part. Very cozy and very clean. Second best part was the yoga class I took, I enjoyed that. It's nice to have so many classes available, but I'm not one for group classes. Oh yeah, they DID have a versa climber which is rare to find in a gym these days. Joey was incredibly kind, patient, and helpful. He showed me how the machines worked, helped with exercises, and made sure my form was correct. I came back with questions multiple times, & he never once made me feel uncomfortable or brushed me off. He even helped me stretch after my workout and used the Theragun, which felt amazing! My workout was a genuinely positive experience because of him & is the reason I am considering joining Equinox, Studio City! I've been a member of Equinox for about 6 years, but my recent experience at Equinox Studio City was extremely disappointing. I visited the location around 9:30 PM on 3/19 to validate my parking ticket, which is a standard member benefit. While I was inside, my friends were waiting outside for their car. During this time, a front desk employee (tall, blonde male) made a rude and unprofessional comment telling me to "tell my friends they're blocking my entrance." At first, I thought he might be joking, but his tone was serious and dismissive. When I asked for clarification, he repeated that they were "blocking the gym" and added that it was "annoying," even though they were simply waiting for their ride and not obstructing any entrances. When I asked for his name, he responded with, "I'm Mr. Equinox," in a sarcastic and unprofessional manner, which was honestly shocking coming from a front desk employee at a premium fitness club. As a long-time member, I expect a much higher level of professionalism and basic courtesy. This interaction was unnecessary, rude, and completely out of line with what Equinox is supposed to represent. Very disappointing experience overall. read more

It really is a pleasant experience, going to this gym. It has its busy times, but in my opinion, even when busy it is not as overcrowded as most other gyms in the area. The equipment is all in great condition. I've never seen a broken down machine. Everything is clean, and it's easy to get a workout in. My only reason for not giving 5 stars is the parking situation. Unless you go earlier in the morning, the parking lot is usually jam-packed. Half of the lot is tandem parking...which is just not something I'm willing to do. read more

i received multiple ads for a 7-day trial here, but since my friend already has a membership, i figured it would be best to go through her for my trial. they only offered a 3-day trial through her, even though she asked for 7-days, they insisted they could only do 3. i missed the first day i could go, i went the second day, and missed the third as well. so i was only able to check it out for one day. i came on a thursday and it was packed. the facility is beautiful, they have a lot of scheduled group classes and a cute lounge area for chatting or working, as well as a beautiful outdoor deck. you check in downstairs, pass by a store for merch & vending beverages, then up the stairs where the group class room is at the top, the lounge to the far right, the spa area to the left, and the floor + locker rooms straight ahead. the locker rooms are really nice; they have self-locking lockers so you don't need your own lock, they have many mirrors, a vanity area with 6 sections including blow dryers, straighteners, and a scale. they have all the toiletries you could desire, fresh towels, functional spacious showers, and a nice, large sauna in the shower area. there's always someone cleaning the locker room which is nice. the locker rooms are the best part of this gym, as well as the lounge, although i didn't experience the spa or a class on my visit. there are a decent amount of machines but the gym is so packed there was only one treadmill available at a time, and 6 stair-masters which are always taken. you have to have a strategy when coming here and waiting for machines without waiting over someone. i felt like i was the only person using cleaning wipes and ran out halfway through my workout, and couldn't find someone to replace them, and i looked around for at least 5 minutes. there was a treadmill that was broken that would just stop after 3 minutes, and people kept getting on and off of it because it was hard to find someone to alert. as packed as it is, the staff are either busy with a client or in a back office, nowhere to be found, it seems. it takes you more time waiting for machines than it takes for your workout, and i felt pressured by the sales team who would email every day asking if i still wanted to sign up. i let Kris know that i was offered a 7-day trial multiple times online, but since i went through my friend, they said it was 3 days max. since i was only able to visit one day, i was not impressed enough to start a contract with them and i would need a few more trial days to determine if it was worth it. he offered one trial day which wasn't enough, and i really wanted to love this place based on its location. if: they actually offered 7-day trials, all their machines were working, they had cleaning wipes always available, staff available, more amenities included, sales team wasn't pushy (there was a special going on for may), and weren't completely packed at all hours (not to mention that they aren't 24/7), i would consider their membership to be worth it. but after my only trial day, i'm not sure it's worth it at this time. read more

This club is in the same complex as the Sportsmen Lodge, Erewhon, Tocaya, and several other shops. Parking is validated by the Club for 2.5 hours for members. The place has a lot of machines for various forms of cardio, which is always a great way to get warmed up. Alternatively, they have a mat area for free-form exercises. A great room for weights and machines, a room specifically designated for (heated) yoga, a room for stationary bicycles, a Pilates Reformer room, and one for other types of classes (like Mat Pilates, and other proprietary classes). The members are friendly. Great spa/restrooms. I love the eucalyptus cold towel service. read more

This was my first day back at Equinox since the pandemic where I had the opportunity to cancel my membership without jumping through the usual hoops, so I did...but after much consideration of the other options available to me including private gym/clubs and group fitness, I decided that this was still the best option available and reactivated my membership. I approached my first workout at Equinox Studio City with much consternation as many of the reviews of this location haven't been kind. To my surprise or maybe it shouldn't have been a surprise, it was exactly what I expected. First off, parking at the Sportsmen's Lodge complex is beyond horrendous. It was 2pm on Black Friday and there aren't that many stores here and I considered myself lucky to have found a spot under 10 minutes. I walked up to the gym and of course was not greeted by anyone at the front desk and there was no one present at the front desk, so I just walked in. I actually needed to talk to someone at the front desk to get my picture taken to active my barcode on my app, but since no one was manning the front desk I just walked in. It was pretty apparent to me that if you acted like you belong there, you too can workout here without a membership. This is probably the newest Equinox in Los Angeles with the new design aesthetic that was started when the Century City location opened. The design carries over at this location. That's a positive. What's not a positive was the size of this gym. I understand that Equinox is trying to regain its boutique status, but that would entail a membership limit at each location. Unfortunately, that's not their business plan at least to my eye. For a new location that was built to spec, this was a very small gym. There were two weight racks and two squat racks and a handful of machines that were oddly laid out, not utilizing the space efficiently. The stretching area was smaller than the one offered at the Glendale location and while you can utilize the group fitness class room, it felt like being in a fishbowl. However, there was a nice relaxation area at the top of the stairs with access to the outside patio, which seems pointless. Cardio equipment has always been a plenty at every Equinox I've been there and it was the same here with Life Fitness and Woodway, etc... The locker rooms were small and for the amount of people that frequent this location, I can see it being uncomfortable in there. For the most part the locker rooms were clean, albeit just on the surface. I have to agree with others who have commented about the towels, some did not feel properly washed and cleaned. The showers like many of its locations are not as advertised. There was no seating area in each shower cubicle for you to put down your own toiletries or towels so you wind up using the exterior hook. Plus, these showers did not accommodate a 6 foot 5 inch man as I kept hitting my elbows against the sides. Definitely another miss. The products provided have been changed to the Grown Alchemist brand, which I don't really have that big of a problem with. Afterall, it was expected once the Equinox Hotel opened with Grown Alchemist toiletries that it was going to carry over to its gyms. Overall, this location is decent if you're here for a class or to do some cardio and your schedule gives you some flexibility. Otherwise, for the cost and specifically this location requires you to have the SoCal Access Tier, I don't think it's worth it. The parking situation, the size of the gym, it really doesn't lend to a high level of expectation that one has for such a brand name. Plus, this location has to figure out the access issue. If I can walk in and workout without scanning in, who is to say anyone else cannot? That's bad leadership and that really needs to be fixed. read more

A friend gave me a guest pass to Equinox and I went to the Studio City location. Trainer, Joey Battista immediately stood out - welcoming, knowledgeable, and attentive, helping me to refine my workout and introducing me to the InBody scan. After the session, his stretching and Theragun work helped me recover quickly with much less soreness. This is a super nice and updated gym if you can look past the horrendous parking situation that many other reviewers also mentioned. The locker rooms, showers, and steam room are updated and well maintained; although if you are coming here to use the weight floor, I would advise not coming here. I've been here at all times of the day and I've always found the weight area to be overly crowded, even if a few sparse machines happen to be available. The weight floor has a very uninviting feel to it when it's packed. I noticed they listened to a few complaints and they added some weight racks, but that did very little to alleviate the congestion. Now if you are here mainly for the cardio machines, there is always a treadmill or stair master available which is great. Unfortunately unlike other locations, there are only two Woodway treadmills and one is usually in need of repair. Other locations such as the Beverly Hills, Century City, and Hollywood locations all have at least 5-10 Woodway treadmills if not more. Below is a picture of all the elliptical type machines that are hardly ever used in comparison to the packed out treadmill area. It would behoove them to take away some of these machines and incorporate more Woodways since that's part of what makes the Equinox experience. Overall, a solid Eqx location. Front desk staff are friendly. It's clean. Layout is ok. The shower drains don't work properly due to the design and the water pools. The pressure is ok. My only gripe would be with other gym goers at this location. They superset or basically use 2 machines at once. They basically expect you to not touch their machine even though they're not actively using it. You're not going to recover for a decent set AND reach muscle failure with no rest in between sets. It's very annoying. I know this isn't Gold's Gym but gym etiquette should definitely be reminded. This location ranks higher than Encino. However I can see how the parking or lack of parking can be a pain. read more

This gym is the biggest scam/ joke of all time. First of all, good luck finding a parking space in their disaster of a parking lot. Also, you only get 90 minutes free and then it costs a fortune (trust me, you'll need that 90 minutes to get anything done at this disaster of a gym.) The gym itself looks nice but the design is ridiculous, the entire bottom floor is just wasted space and a retail store where they sell their overpriced junk. Then you go upstairs to the gym itself which is also poorly designed with tons of wasted space. There aren't enough machines for the amount of members that they've allowed to join, which leads me to my next issue.... They need/needed to cap the amount of members they signed up because this place is always a madhouse and you're always waiting around for everything. Plus, people don't come here to work out and leave. It's become a social club where people just walk around and socialize instead of working out. People constantly filming themselves and other people is extremely uncomfortable. They should implement a rule that you aren't allowed to film in the gym. Dirty locker rooms, as others have mentioned, it's not uncommon to find disgusting things in the locker room. Do yourself a favor and don't sign up for a year of misery at this place. read more

Management and the corporate side is the only issue here with the pretentious attitude and high rates but not best response time and rude employees at equinox concierge again people who actually have money tend not to like when they pay more money but getshitty service. It's been 9 months since I've signed up for this gym and my opinion has changed enough to warrant an updated review. The Good: 1. The Quality: It still feels like a very elevated, upscale experience as far as gyms go. The quality of all the equipment is relatively nice and the locker rooms and bathrooms are very clean and well kept. I'd imagine it would be difficult to go to any other gym after being spoiled at this one. 2. The Training: My experience with training has been fantastic, although not so much for my bank account. Really happy I tried training and would recommend it to anyone who can afford it. If you can, work with Evan since he's phenomenal and pretty much the only thing keeping me coming in! The Not-So-Good: 1. The Size: The facility is small for the price. It is often difficult to find open machines or equipment or even space that is not in use. It can get pretty packed. If they could build an additional floor, that would help a lot. Parking can also get frustrating as it is limited, even at 3pm, before peak hours. Class sizes and options also feel limited as they're usually full or waitlisted. Overall, they just need to expand the whole facility to justify the cost. 2. The (lack of) Communication: It can be very difficult getting in touch with customer service reps or management regrading questions about your membership or anything. In the past, it took weeks to get a response for simple inquiries. Managers are barely reachable or present. For what you are paying, the responsiveness and eagerness to help isn't really there. 3. The Membership Structure: you're required to commit to a full year and you have to jump through a ton of loopholes to pause or cancel at any time. I wish it was more flexible as far as putting holds or just paying month-to-month versus locking into an entire year. I originally picked this gym because of its proximity and the amenities. I wanted to try something new and I don't regret giving it a shot. It was a good experience but not sure if worth the $$$ unless you're training and with a qualified trainer (like Evan). read more

The equipment is never wiped down. I've never seen staff clean the machines like I have in other locations. I was a member of the original Equinox in the upper west side of Manhattan before the Erico family sold the franchise and it became one of the premier upscale Gym chains in America. I often visit Equinox outposts around the country when traveling for business: they're head and shoulders better than any other gym chain. So when I saw one was being built close to my home, I was one of the first to buy a membership, nearly two years before they finally opened. When they finally did, I was so brutally disappointed. The space is just too small to be a full service Equinox. Everything feels cramped and small, like it's an Equinox Lite. The parking situation and local traffic are atrocious, and there's an unmistakeable attitude among the employees that I did not find appealing. It only took one workout to exercise my cancellation option after giving them a sizable no interest loan for a couple of years. I'm sure they have members who love it. They're one of the few places offering premium things like towel service, but this place is not a full sized Equinox which, given the exorbitant price (it costs literally TEN times what my LA Fitness membership costs), it should be. The proximity to the state's best (and easily most expensive) grocery store, Erewhon, is a plus, and now that the other shops in the mall have opened, it's a really nice vibe with a nice mix of shops, several of which cater to the workout set. It's not for me, but I imagine there are plenty who love it. It just depends on what you value most. read more

Love this Equinox, its got great community and instructors. My go to yoga/pilates instructors are Jaclyn Winters, Stephanie Greco, Shannon Branham, and Joseph Seeman, as they are really strong with alignment based yoga, and take it to the next level. Each instructor brings their own brand of awesome... Stephanie with her safe and unwavering vibe of consistency. Shannon with her attention to being gentle yet strong. Joseph Seeman with his awesome Earth reflections. And my current favorite is Jaclyn-- a master of both Yoga and Pilates, able to both keep those modalities separate, or combined in certain moments. She has a keen wit and presence that challenges you and makes you feel attended to simultaneously. Really appreciate these folks and their incredible wealth of knowledge. I hope the classes here never get watered down by some corporate branding looking for absolute homogeny. These instructors know what they are doing and rock a very special gold. read more

I've been an Equinox customer since 2009--at various locations. I wish this location opened back then, because I had to drive to the West Hollywood location. I didn't mind driving back then. The WeHo location is filled with eye candy. After a few years of that, I went to the Encino and Woodland Hills locations when I moved. Great classes at all the locations I've been to, and I enjoyed all the amenities. I quit Equinox a few years ago, and went to yucky 24 Hour Fungus. My gf calls it that, because it IS filthy! I moved back to the Studio City area, and was so happy to see that Equinox was opening here! Woo hoo! It took a looong time to open, but was worth the wait. I understand some of the bad reviews, I agree with the parking situation. The developers should've built a multi-level garage to accommodate all of the businesses in this complex. I workout during off-hours, because if this and i hate crowds. If I can't deal with the parking, there is free valet service or street parking. The gym only has one of the major equipment that most gyms would have minimum of three. 1 leg press, 1 Abe bench, 1, calf machine 2 benches and two squat racks/deadlift platform. There is always a long wait for any equipment during peak hours. The only amenity is a steam room. No dry sauna or any other amenities. Don't wast your time or money. read more

TL;DR 5 stars for the club, location, parking, onboarding and general experience. Location: Northeast of Ventura & Coldwater, takes about 11 minutes on average to travel just over 4 miles from home to club after A/B testing commuting at 5 AM, 9:30 AM and 2 PM. Haven't tried evenings yet. Parking: Just like parking at The Grove, take a ticket and find a spot. Even in the tandem spots, am able to fit a F-150 comfortably. If you're blocking someone in a tandem spot, give keys to valet and they'll give you a ticket. You can validate at the club for free parking. Average time of entering parking lot to parking takes 2-3 minutes. Club: Just opened ~Q4 2022; everything's brand new (interior and equipment). Been going since January 2023 and have been able to catch a machine without waiting (stair master, row machines, squat racks, etc). Reminds me of a nicer Bay Club I used to go to in El Segundo. Tried L.A Fitness and cancelled after Day 6 to join Equinox in Studio City. Personally, if I'm financially able to spend extra on a nicer gym with amenities, better vibe and no wait on machines, I will. It was stressful just thinking about commuting to L.A. Fitness and planning on finding parking and waiting on machines. Experience so far at this club has been stress-free. I won't lie, I was intimidated beforehand assuming fancy attitudes, but I was dead wrong -- members and staff at this club have a friendlier tone and etiquette than L.A Fitness which is rad. Pricing: Opted-in for the Regional package ($277/month) for most bang for buck. Figured if I go to this or any other SoCal locations at least 20 days/month, would come out shy of $14/day, which is less than what I'd spend at lunch commuting/working at an office. I signed up for membership when this location first opened. I usually visit a little over 1 hr 5-6 times a week. Weekdays I'm there early morning. I've had no issues with equipment availability, staff have been very friendly (front desk, class instructors, and trainers) and the facilities seem well maintained. I did opt to engage help from a trainer (Thank you for your attentiveness, Cassandra!) and I feel the investment in my health has been worth the cost. She's helped, and continues helping me engage in fitness and guiding me towards effective growth in the areas I've requested.
