We visited Equus Run while spending the weekend in Frankfort. Will was our tour guide and was amazing - so knowledgeable and passionate about wines and the wine making process! He even let us try a Concord grape right off the vine! The grounds are beautiful. After our tour and tasting, we sat on the porch for the live music and shared a charcuterie board. The wines tended to be a little sweet for my taste but that didn't impact my experience - we got to sample 6 of the wines (our choice) and I did enjoy the Equestrian Chardonnay. We were actually looking for the distillery that was supposed to be in same area and saw this winery. Turns out the distillery was at the same place. It looked empty but we decided to go inside the tasting room and to our surprise there were several people at the counter tasting and it was really cute inside. A beautiful wooden table and chairs were right when we walked in. We decided to sample the wines and the Chardonnay and the Cabernet were delicious!! They have many different wines they make and you can choose 6 for $10. We then asked about what the distillery makes and they make brandy and tequila. You can only buy the spirits there they do not sell anywhere or ship. I bought the red and white wine and a bottle of the bourbon barreled tequila. The young guy behind the counter was very sweet and helpful. Definitely glad we stopped here and you should too!! read more

Easily accessible off I-64 with tastings for purchase. Must say they have remarkably cute labels on their sweet wine collection. Small area inside and a disengaged staff member this visit, questions annoyed him and we left empty handed. Equus Run was a pleasant surprise to the Kentucky wine scene. The grounds are beautiful and inside minimal with rustic accents. They grow the Chardonnay, Pinotage, and Cabernet Franc on the grounds; all other grapes are brought in and finished on site. Their tasting was $10 for (6) tastings which was very modestly priced. The staff warmed up to our group which was great to share the background of the winery, recommendation of wines, and other events the winery has to offer. The group's favorite was the Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Pinotage. I highly recommend stopping by if looking for a good winery in the Lexington area. read more

What a great little vineyard! We arrived just as they were opening. There were grapes being loaded into the presses which we were invited to try. We chose to have a wine tasting and, really, none of it was bad! We each took home 2 bottles of excellent wine. The bartender was amazing and the tasting was reasonably priced, as were the bottles. We often visit Equus Run when in Lexington. The staff is very dog-friendly and always so helpful. They also give a military discount, which is appreciated. My wife loves their wines, and there are several beers for me to choose from. The area outside of the tasting room is great for relaxing on the deck or in the shade of their trees, and we can walk the dogs on the circular path that runs along the nearby creek. Great wine; great service; and beautiful grounds. What more could you ask for? read more

This is a former tobacco farm converted to a very scenic Winery/Vineyard with some good wines. Found this on a recent trip based on it's reviews (thanks fellow reviewers) so we picked up lunch and headed there for a tasting. We bought Shakin the Blues (blueberry), Grenache Noir and Bella Rosso (a Port style), and had a bottle of Reisling for (a long!) lunch. This appears to be a popular place but there was no wait at the tasting hut. The grounds are very scenic, surrounded by horse country. read more

This is a lovely spot to visit when we're in town visiting family in Georgetown. We've given and received this wine many times and it's always a hit. Really pretty grounds to explore and would be a fun place for events. We had a fun time doing a wine tasting there and trying their wide variety! Looking for a quaint, relaxing place to enjoy time with friends? I highly recommend Equus! This local vineyard produces its own wine, located slightly outside of Georgetown. I've tried pretty much all the wine they offer and they have all been delicious. I recommend the Grenache Noir. They also offer some snacks, including a nice charcuterie plate. In the warmer months, there is usually a live band playing ( I believe on Sundays?). There is plenty of outside seating, but many bring their own chairs to have a picnic or social gathering with friends. The garden is beautiful in the spring and summer, all also grown by the Vineyard owner Cynthia. Needing to stretch your legs? You are free to take a self-guided tour throughout the grounds. I believe there is also a guided tour available to see the "behind the scenes" of wine making. Parking is easy and pl;entiful. Also, it's not far at all. From the Hamburg area, it takes me around 20 minutes at most to get here. read more

I would like to update my review. A couple of years ago, my sister in law and I visited Equus Run Vineyard. The experience was not so good (felt rushed) and they were out of most of their Red wines. This time my friend wanted to go and I wanted to give it a second chance because I read the other reviews (which were good) and hoping that they had all their red wines fully stocked. As I described in the my last review, the Vineyard is gorgeous! Loved the spacious tasting room and the mood. Walked in and was greeted by staff. They were really friendly and took the time to give us descriptions of their wines. The tasting this time is $7.00 which you can try 6 different types. This is what I tried: -Sauvignon Blanc- A beautiful pale yellowed colored white wine with lots of acidity. Herbacious and vegetal aromas pervade the nose. An almost electric acidity pulses in the lemon and grapefruit notes on the palate. It has a vivid freshness with a medium short finish. -Rose'-Cabernet Sauvignon Blanc de Noir- A very popular light bodied Rose' of Cabernet Sauvignon wine with a hint of black cherry and a tease of residual sugar finish. -Tempranillo- This medium-bodied red is of medium tannins. The nose is of cherry and plums with hints of cloves. -Cabernet Sauvignon- A dry deep red wine, with a bouquet of dried fruits and a mix of ripe berries and fig. Well integrated oak, soft tannins and a long finish. Aged perfectly in American and European Oak! -Pinotage- Best described as pinot noir on steroids. Developed in South African, this dry red is a cross of pinot noir and cinsaut (known in South Africa ast the time as hermitage, hence "pinotage"). -Cabernet Franc- This dry red was one of my favorites and I had to buy a bottle ($23.99) Very smooth finish. They did not offer oyster crackers/crackers which was fine because I purchased a bag of Neva Betta crackers ($2.75) from them and I was able to take it to other wineries if they were out as well. This visit was definately much better than the last and I'm glad that I returned to give them a second chance/update my review. I highly recommend their wines. Equus Run Vineyard is a great place to hang with friends. From the friendly staff to the gorgeous landscape and atmosphere! They offer a pretty large selection/variety of wines and are affordably priced. A group of friends and I packed a charcuterie picnic and just hung out for hours enjoying the beautiful scenery and tasty wines! The two types of wine we purchased were rosé and white Riesling. Most of the wines I have tasted from here are more on the sweet side, so if that's your go-to for wine, you will enjoy Equus Run! read more

Initially liked this winery, on 2nd visit we were rudely discriminated against due to requiring a well behaved service dog. I assume the young girl was trying her best to do her job but was neglectful of service animal laws and demanded proof of certification (which is not legally required in KY) and that we walk back and put a vest on our service dog (which is as you guessed it, not legally required by law in the great state of Kentucky). I calmly tried to explain this, but she was adamant about us showing paperwork, so we walked out. Will no longer be recommending this vinyard. read more

Equus Run is the CUTEST little hidden vineyard you ever did find! And their 'Tunes in the Vine' Sunday concert series is the perfect way to experience it for the first time. They have a great little tasting room/bar with snacks, and of course a HUGE piece of property to wander. My favorite area was the gardens where the music was played. So peaceful and picturesque. We exclusively drank the Tempranillo, which was delicious, and I'lol be back to try much more! read more

I love the layout of this Vineyard. It is absolutely beautiful! If the wines were better- it would be 5 stars. The landscaping is so pretty and the grapevines are so well kept. There are a couple of Gazebos, lots of picnic tables, a creek, an amphitheater, fire pits and a cute courtyard. I am not sure how many acres this place has but it very spacious. We stopped by a couple of weeks ago on our way to Lexington and enjoyed a wine tasting followed by a little picnic in one of the gazebos. We felt like we had the place to ourselves. It was so peaceful. You can taste 6 wines for $7 so not bad. They sell cheese, crackers and snacks but we also brought our own little picnic which is fine. We did buy beer cheese but it was $10 so we probably wouldn't buy again. My only complaint is the wine is a bit pricey for the quality. They do have a few dry wines that are fairly good but they are about $20-25 a bottle. read more

Less than impressed. The place is very dirty and out dated. Uneven floors and just over all unclean. There were spider webs everywhere. I spent most of the time whipping the webs of my clothing, not to mention the 2 I walked through just going inside the place! We went for a small concert this last Sunday and the band that was scheduled to play only played for a total of 30 minutes and took breaks for the remaining hour and a half. Not that I minded as when they did play their voices were drowned out by their own music! Wine was sub par. Did the 12 option tasting which said we get to keep our glasses - yet we were told that was an old menu... I've had better wine from a gas station. Their modern bathroom was a joke. Huge open window with no curtains or blinds to close. Just an open window for anyone to see everything!!! DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE. If I could give negative stars I would. Waste of my time and money. Epic let down. read more

I cannot believe I have lived in Lexington for almost my entire life and have never visited this wonderful place. It took a yelp elite event to get me there apparently. I will definitely go back, especially on Sundays when they have live music. I met the owner, a wonderful woman who was very welcoming and generous to our group. We tasted almost every wine available and they gave us a beautiful charcuterie board as well. As I walked around the grounds with my puppy I talked to several of the couples who are regulars. They said that this is the best winery they have ever been to, very laid-back atmosphere and a beautiful setting. I have to agree! Best of all they are expanding their winery to offer other choices so definitely check them out. There's even an Airbnb on site as well as a huge amphitheater that I'm excited to visit when they have their next concert. read more

Poor service. If you want to feel like an inconvenience, make sure to stop here. Ally would pour us wine and then walk back to another group and socialize with them, rather than explaining any of the wines to us. I tried to convince my wife to leave after pour 2 (you get 6 with a tasting), but my wife being the nicer one wanted to finish the tasting. At the end Ally asked my wife if she wasn't a wine drinker, my wife being polite stated we were and stopped me from my reply. We are down from Ohio enjoying a kid free weekend and this was just not what either one of us were expecting. read more

I have been a wine club member at this vineyard for almost 5 years and it's one of the best vineyards in KY. If you're a club member then you get a free tasting when you visit (which is about $5-$7) at other vineyards. Equus Run host a lot of events throughout the year with live music and local food trucks. One of my favorite events is the murder mystery dinner. It is a little pricey but highly recommended. The vineyard has made several improvements to the grounds. They added a small putting green, kazebo with lots of benches around, and a small creek/water flowing near the putting green. read more

This is the vinophile's version of a country club. With courtyards, a little amphitheater, event barn, and...oh, right...WINE, a quick drive into Midway feels like a world away. The servers are as friendly as can be, and the wine is fantastic. I tend to like the drier stuff, which isn't always a bluegrass strong suit - Equus Run proves to be a blissful exception! If you do like the sweet stuff, not to worry - the summer white and passionate kiss are unbeatable also. To top it all off, if you can make it for one of the many events, you won't regret it. There are concerts, murder mystery parties, wine and canvas nights, and themed dinners. I highly recommend all of them! read more

Went out to get my new Qtr. release. We been going out to Midway since 2011. This place changes for the better every time we go out. They have completely upgraded and enlarged their tasting room. It is very roomy and can hold a lot more people than the old one. I also think the wine has gotten a lot better. They are so friendly and can help with almost anything relating to wine. They have a number of events scheduled for the spring and summer and we plan to attend some of them. We also like to support the local products. They are reasonably and competitively priced. If you visit the Midway area give them a try. You won't be sorry you did. read more

This is such a lovely (and family friendly) winery, I can't believe it took me so long to check it out. I thought their wines were better than those of other wineries in the area, the staff was welcoming and knowledgeable, and they encouraged us to explore and enjoy their grounds (including a mini golf green that my kids LOVED). Coming to enjoy live music here one evening over the summer is high on my "to do" list, AND they're about to open their own (on-site) distillery. Had a great visit here the weekend after Thanksgiving! We stopped in for a wine tasting and ended up getting a membership! They have a pretty decent selection for a small KY winery and the reds are better than most midwestern reds. I also appreciated that the fruity wines were naturally sweet without much - if any - added sugar. We look forward to our future visits! read more
