This is a cool little distillery to stop into. We tried a tasting and got to sample 7 different whiskeys. The tour cost is $20 but they let my husband and I taste together. It is really cool because they do a decent amount of speciality bottles that are one and done. So once sold out, the are out for good. I really enjoyed the Vietnam light whiskey. I still am thinking about how unique it was. The bourbon 30 was also not bad and for $40 it would be worth it. The rest of the bottles are on the expensive side with most being over $100. Inside, seemed a little disorganized but everyone was nice nonetheless. Overall, I may be back for a light whiskey because I am still thinking about the one I tasted. Check it out, especially if near buffalo trace.

We had a wonderful tasting with Rick who was knowledgeable about the bourbon and made plenty of cheesy dad jokes! First time here, long time bourbon fans! Not overly crowded, and the cats on premise were sweet! Highly recommend!!

As you approach the outside of J. Mattingly, you wouldn't expect too much after visiting a few other distilleries that have extravagant entrances but don't let that fool you. Once you walk inside, you're in a different world. You are immediately greeted as a friend so you're quickly put at ease. Now come the options which range from a simple flight of bourbons to a full out session where you become a master blender and blend several different bourbons. The former will take an hour and the latter a little longer but worth it (doing this next time). Our master of experience was "Senna" and she was indeed masterful, carefully explaining the heritage, the brand story, and the flavor notes of every single bourbon and whiskey tasted. I walked out smarter just from this initial flight tasting. Imagine if I had chosen the full out course! This translates to a very personalized experience, not what you would receive at some of the larger and busier distilleries. This truly is a Master Class in understanding Bourbons and Whiskeys. The icing on the "bourbon cake" was a quick tour of the facility and the opportunity to sign a barrel! Totally unexpected. Finally, we had to walk out with a few bottles and merchandise which included some premium shirts with the label "Next Level", so be sure to grab them given their great fit and premium texture. Hands down, this a MUST so definitely ask for "Senna" or any of the family members: Savannah or Jeff, both of whom I met. Jeff said it best when we gave each other brotherly hugs: "You come in as a friend, but you leave as family." That's exactly how I felt.

We loved our experience at J Mattingly. It's a small distillery with LOTS of history and lots of fun. They have two distillery cats, one named Benny and one named MJ and they love the life. The staff was awesome - welcoming, accommodating, and fun. The bourbon brittle is delicious too, don't miss out. We will definitely be back.

Great experience. Tete was an amazing host. Very knowledgeable, friendly & helpful. She went above and beyond to make our experience one to remember. We learned a lot about aging bourbon and the stave aging they do at this distillery. Highly recommend.

Well, another great offering and you're at a low key place! The tastings are really worth it and good pours too! They've got great Kentucky bourbon and merchandise too.

A very unassuming building opens up to a beautiful distillery serving brilliant bourbon. Our host Daniel was phenomenal.

Two delicious ryes!

I have visited the new J Mattingly facility twice and thoroughly enjoyed both trips. My first visit was shortly after they opened in November 2023 and the second was a Sunday in April 2024. Both times, the staff was welcoming, friendly, and enthusiastic about their brand and their offerings. Their spacious tasting room and gift shop is comfortable to spend time in, with a seating area at tables and benches. The whiskey is really good! They do custom blends of sourced whiskey that are all VERY Small Batch. If you taste a blend you like, buy it now, it'll never be reproduced. You can do your own Custom Blend experience or buy from their shelf selections. They offer bourbons, ryes, and light whiskey. All delicious. Check them out when you're visiting a nearby distillery. They're conveniently located across the street from BT. Look for all the semi-trailers. I took a couple of bottles home from my last visit!

Our tasting! 5 solid pours!

This was our first visit and we were able to secure 5 Trace Tour tickets for our group, which worked out perfectly since two others opted not to go on a tour (they had craft cocktails in the bar area! Win-win). The tour gave a nice overview of the history and the bourbon process. I plan to take one of their other tours in the future for more in-depth knowledge. The tour is free and you get a tasting of 4 of their bourbons at the end (plus a piece of their amazing chocolate.) The gift shop has everything you could possibly want related to BT. They also have nice selection of bourbons available for purchase that I'm not able to easily find in PA. On the day we visited they were giving out samples of their new RTD bourbon lemonade and their bourbon cream with root beer. Needless to say, we purchased all three of these items! We did grab lunch at the John Carlise café on-site. It was delicious and affordable. We had the Bluegrass Melt which was loaded with meat and came with chips. Their chocolate chip cookies are also quite tasty. I recommend grabbing a bite to eat here. Overall, I was very impressed with the organization of the BT tourist operations. They efficiently moved hundreds of people through quickly, while still creating a welcoming place. The friendliness of all the staff is commendable. We will return in the future!

Even though some of the buildings were under construction during the summer, the experience was still excellent. Our tour guide did a great job sharing the history of the distillery and explaining the different bourbon flavor profiles during the tasting. He made everything easy to understand, whether you were new to bourbon or had done a few distillery tours before. One of my favorite parts was the welcome cocktail at the beginning--it was really tasty and a fun way to kick off the tour. The tasting itself was well done, and the staff throughout the distillery were friendly and welcoming. The gift shop is also worth checking out. It's one of the larger ones we've visited, with lots of bourbon, merchandise, and unique goodies to browse. Overall, another great experience, and I'd definitely recommend stopping here if you're touring the Bourbon Trail.

The tour was great, even though we had terrible weather with a big storm coming through. The tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly and answered all of my questions without hesitation. The tasting room is super nice and there is plenty of space for a big group so you aren't crowded. I loved that they teach you about the different mashbills and how to tell which is which on their bottles. They have a lot of great items in the gift shop - I bought my dad a shirt and also got one for myself, along with a little baby snifter. Come check it out, you'll be glad that you did!

Old Cranky Dave and his motto: "Bourbon Without the BS" is quite refreshing when compared to the same old talk about limestone filtered water jabber as though the founder of a brand is still stirring mash along the creek. Pretty - not a bit, but this is the reality of an actual distillery. Will Glenn's Creek Distilling try to convince you they're the "first of" anything - no sir. What this site is, is the real deal, on a small scale, and a bit rough around the edges. It's not everyone's cup of tea, and there are many sites visitors can see pretty grounds hosted by some young folks who know nothing more than a company line. While they do walk-in tastings here, BE SURE TO BOOK A TASTING EXPERIENCE at 10, Noon, 2 or 4, or plan a private experience if you have more than a half-dozen in your party.
