I found Dentist Rappaport in 2018 as a dentist covered under my Dental insurance plan. Most treatments were 90-100% covered. On 5/17/21, I went to Dr. Rappaport for cleaning and dental work (bridge removal). During the middle of the dental procedure, all numb with the old bridge removed, the front desk billing secretary walks into the treatment room and tells me I had to pay for the entire treatment out of pocket today. Secretary said my dental Insurance took too long to answer the phone on Friday 5/14/21 and then placed her staff on hold for about 2hours, and they ended up not finding out what was covered for the 5/17/21 treatment. Secretary said, since insurance didn't answer they could not determine what part my dental insurance would be covered. While in the treatment chair, all numb I called my dental insurance, they immediately answered, there was no wait time, and they did not place me in hold. While I was on the phone with the insurance, the Billing dental secretary walked out of the room. I asked my dental Plan to inform me how much coverage today's visit would cost. Note: this call should of been done by the dental billing secretary. My dental plan told me Dr. Rapaport is "out of network" as of January 1, 2020. And that Dr. Rappaport dropped my insurance, and said the dentist office should of informed me of that change. I asked the dental secretary why would they proceed with treatment without informing me their office did not accept with Insurance any longer. All she said was, I'm sorry I was not here on 5/14/21, I was out on medical leave. Due to lack of information from the billing dental department, I had to leave the dental office with unfinished work, and on top of that I had to pay the full amount out of pocket. Now I find myself with incomplete dental work. I feel their office just took me in knowing they are getting paid somehow, without caring if it was out of my pocket or wherever. I now have to find an in network dentist that can complete the unfinished dental work Dentist Rappaport started. What's worst, the temporary crown Dentist Rappaport placed are sharp in more than one area, and have been hurting my mouth. read more

I moved to San Diego two years ago from Minneapolis, where I had been seeing a dentist every 6 months for 15 years - same clinic / multiple DDS doctors. Haven't had a cavity in over 20 years. My first visit resulted in 11 cavities and one crown - over $1500 out of pocket. The work was great, but wondered why my MN dentist missed them? 6 months later, I went for a routine cleaning. Now, 4 cavities and some additional crown work recommended. Another $1000+ quoted out of pocket. I decided to go see another dentist with a 5 star Yelp rating. No cavities. No crown issues. My wife and 13 year old daughter had similar issues with Dr. Rappaport - multiple cavities and other work. New dentist found everything fine. We believe she was recommending procedures that were not necessary, which we're told is quite common here in SD. Very happy with new dentist! read more

I hate it when you call a doctor or dentist office and ask how much it will cost with or without insurance. You usually just get the runaround. Not here! I called and Christina got my insurance information, went online to the insurance company and found what my coverage was, and told me the contracted price and my portion. That was my first wow. I got an appointment in only two days from my call. That was the second wow. The hygienist, Michele, was the gentlest I've ever experienced, and with over 60 years experience of going to dentists, I have to say, she was the best. That was the third wows. When the doctor came in to review the xrays and recommended treatment, she didn't try to sell me on the most expensive treatment, but instead, with some very old silver fillings cracking in my back molars, she said we should try to remove an re-fill them if the decay wasn't too bad. When I pressed her as to why we wouldn't just grind them down can crown them, she told me that the natural tooth with a filling will last longer that a crown. I found Dr. Rappaport through my insurance and I have to say that I am truly patting myself on the back for finding her. I don't personally see her because I am in the military, however my husband does and he is truly terrified of the dentist but her and her team Ritchell are truly angels. They made my husbnad feel 100% comfortable and they truly involved us in the education of the care and treatment that my husband is going to go through. I can't say enough how truly wonderful they are and it was only the first appointment. They weren't upset or lecturing my husband for not seeing a dentist in quite some time (7+ years) but they are really easing him into the process again. Everything is great from Doctor to the front desk Kristen she is the nicest and she even sits you down ad goes over a detailed plan about upcoming visits, payments, etc. She even called me back and told me about ways to cut cost for whatever my insurance didn't cover because her and the detal hygenist were dicussing our options. Let me begin by saying that I spent an entire summer visiting her office every Monday for about 3hrs at a time. Every time I left, my pain got worse and my teeth worsened. I've never experienced so much discomfort and pain in my life. Erela is a very money driven and cold woman, she does not give off a very personable or caring atmosphere and seems to lack sympathy if you have less than perfect teeth. I spent all my dental insurance at her office and despite me saying I can no longer afford their services, she just kept telling me how that's not an excuse and I NEED to have everything fixed NOW (seriously made me feel like it was a life or death situation). I have since found a new dentist but her office still calls and texts me multiple times a week asking if I can come in. Each time I sit in the chair, I know they are going to give me the best treatment around, AND they are going to honestly tell me when I need to work on brushing here or flossing there or even when an occasional cavity starts to creep in. I do not write many reviews because like most people I'm crazy busy, but when a business blows my socks off with their thoroughness, honesty and professionalism I have to put my two cents out there! My family of four have been seeing Dr Rappaport for over 15 years and I LOVE that I can go to the dentist with confidence. YES confidence! Years ago I fell in love with Dr Rappaport when I inquired about replacing my ugly metal (amalgam) fillings located in my back molars, with the more attractive white porcelain fillings (yes I confess that is a bit vain right... but MANY Dentists/business people would welcome the work and money right? so win win?) Wrong! Turns out that it is not in the patients best interest to perform unnecessary work. It affects the integrity of the tooth each time work is done. Not a good thing for those teeth that we really want to remain healthy and in our mouths for the long hall! So over the past 15 years.... as those old ugly fillings have shown signs of disrepair Dr Rappaport has beautifully and comfortably replaced them. What a concept! Work performed exceptionally well but only when necessitated! I totally trust Dr. Rappaport!
