He is a Master Colorist and the products he uses on your hair are simply gorgeous, I have dark brown hair and the highlights and placements of the color around my face made me look younger and my hair had a fantastic shine to it. I am about to turn 50 and the cut and the color he gave me made my skin tone and face look happy and young. I also get a mani/pedi while he works his magic and it makes me feel like a Queen for the few hours I am there, the other shocking thing is his affordable and fair pricing, I was going to a Salon that I will not mention that was charging me double and it did not even look half as nice as what Eric does.I adore his personality and he just has a way of knowing what color and cut is going to make you look FABULOUS! Eric does a wonderful job on my hair, be it cropped to a cm or two to feet of hair down past my rump. He does wonderful highlights, which get more complex the more a few white hairs establish themselves in my naturally black hair. He has done my son's hair throughout his life, taking him through his teenage experimentation, university surfer stage and now in his late 20s, his professional dark blonde hair era. My son looks great when he sees Eric. An order of degree or two more handsome. Eric has always made my hair look its best, giving me gentle nudges when I get excessively lazy. Eric is an excellent stylist for both male and female hair. We've been going to him for ~6 years and totally worth the drive from SF. For men: He does wonders with fully textured, thick hair. No more butchered hair after my husband started going to Eric. For women: If you're an Asian women, you MUST go to Eric. Consistently excellent results. I get lots of compliments-- even after the layers grow out! Wedding hair: There is no one else I would trust with my hair for such an important event. I wouldn't go here again. He charges $75 for a men's haircut and does a mediocre job. I can get the same haircut for $20 somewhere else. The venue is not clean and he spends a great deal of his time bragging about himself which was very annoying. read more

I found Eric as he is located next to my pedi/mani spot! Kendra, the owner of the nail place, assured me that he was awesome so I rolled the dice! I will NEVER regret going to Eric that first time and every time since! My short blond hair had been growing out so Eric had to take this mess of chin length hair and cut it to my favorite length of above the ears (a la' Ellen DeGeneres-ish). Not only did he give me an amazing PRECISION cut, he also colored my hair (foils) to a perfect shade of blond! Having moved to the Bay Area about 2 years ago and looking ever since for a great stylist- I knew my search had ended when I found Eric. My hair is naturally brown. His highlighting is wonderful as I leave a summer blond. My hair is fine, thin and short. He cuts short hair with absolute precision to exactly your specifications! I've been going to Eric for my hair style and color for almost 2 years now and won't go to anyone else! I'm a mature professional woman and have a style that needs to be maintained every 6 weeks or so. Eric is flexible with scheduling and always devotes the time and attention needed to make everything perfect. I have hair that is extremely wavy on the sides and back but completely straight on the top! The style that works for me requires time and attention to detail, especially my sculptured neckline, and that's where Eric excels. He has a cutting style that is extremely artistic. He is meticulous and works with ALL of us to make sure we are happy... that we look great... and we keep coming back. I notice Eric has repeat clientele of men, women and children, of all ages and nationalities. Eric has a great personality, the salon is clean and easily accessable with ample parking and his prices are extremely fair. Does it get any better? I went to Eric for an Ombre and he totally ruined my hair. ( pics attached). I was worried mid way through when his technique was awkward but when he told me he was searching through Youtube videos the night before to look up how to do Ombre's I was very worried, After the first hour of processing, I was in shock to see what my hair looked like, it was just blotches of color, hideous, he was apologizing profusely and told me he can fix it, so I let him go through my hair another time to try to minimize the horror. After the second time, my hair was so brittle and dry and it was still pretty bad but I paid him and went home. When I got home, i looked more closely and under the top layer of hair, the color was even worst. There was a line ( crooked) going through my hair. I had really important meetings that week and was very worried about how unprofessional this looked. I can't even believe he let me go home this way. he can obviously see wha tthe back of my hair looked like and I can't. I text him to tell him how dissapointed I am that he let me go home looking like that. he apologized and told me he would refund my money so that I can go get it fixed somewhere else. I wouldn't want him to touch my hair anymore. I ended up having to spend $200 to get it fixed and I had to cut off about 4 inches of it because it was so fried. The hair dresser that fixed my hair was in shock at how anyone can do this. He should have been honest that he had NO IDEA what am ombre was and NO IDEA how to do one! Furthermore, he NEVER sent me my money with even constant follow ups! and now just completely ignoring it. I will be reporting him to the BBB and the state board as I am pretty sure his practice is not compliant as well - having dropped a comb several times while doing my hair and picking it back up and using it! read more

I've gone to frou frou salons in SF to cheapie chinatown hair salons...no one compares! I drive all the way down from San Francisco to Menlo Park just for a haircut from Eric...it's really that worth it (even with the gas prices being as high as $4.30!). Eric is a great stylist. He is considerate and makes suggestions that he feels are appropriate to enhance your face shape, type of hair, natural hair color, and life style. He is naturally artistic and talented at styling hair. He is non imposing and can and will do what ever you like to create a hair style that fits your personality and needs. Eric is great! I've been going to Eric since he was at Hair International. He's the only one I've been getting my hair cut with for the past 4, maybe 5 years. I get a haircut every 4-6 months, since I have 2 young kids and have a hard time getting away. Eric is very good, he knows that I don't have much time to do my hair and gives me a great cut every time, a low maintenance wash and go cut that looks good for months, until I can go see him again. When my hair fell out after giving birth and my hair thinned, he gave me such a great cut that I had compliments that my hair looked full and bouncy! Eric is the best. I was looking for a new place to get a decent guy's hair cut (not a beauty parlor, but not a barber shop), and I read a Yelp review about Eric. At the time he was at Hair International in the Stanford Shopping Center, and so I gave it a shot. That place is grim, but Eric was great, and he was the shining star there. I have been getting my hair cut with Eric now going on 3 years, and I have followed him to his new home at DJ's Hair Design in Menlo Park. I have been going to Eric for hair-cut for the past 6 years. He is very accurate and patient in his work. He is almost always on time (it has happened to me only few times that I had to wait for 15 min and that was because another customer's job had taken longer than expected). He talks to you about what you'd like to do before he starts to work on your hair and makes sure you are happy with the style. The price is also very reasonable given the quality of cut you receive. For ladies: $40 for students, $60 for others. I highly recommend him. AUGUST 8, 2013 UPDATE: I came back to this page and noticed that there are more 5-star reviews since I left my first review and there are three 1-star reviews. Eric still charges $40 for men (I am not sure how come one reviewer says he was charged $70) and $60-65 for women ($40 if you are a student). I have never done anything but getting a cut with him and I can testify that his cut is still perfect. For the past 1.5 year, he has been cutting my hair short and his cut is really great. You can see his mastery of the techniques when it comes to short hair. When cutting from long to short for the first time, he spent literally an hour on my hair to make sure the new cut is perfect. I have received a lot of compliments on my short hair style and couple of friends have since switched to Eric to cut their hairs short. :-) I have looked around to find a similar quality of cut for a cheaper price with no success. As far as I can tell, his price in the bay area is really a bargain given the quality of work he delivers. I highly recommend him. read more

Eric has cut and styled my hair and my husband's for the last year. We first met him at Hair International at Stanford Mall. In November 2010 he moved to D.J.'s. Eric is a masterful hair artist!! Eric takes a lot of time to create the best look for you. After he styles my hair using only a blow dryer and brush, my hair looks perfect for at least 5 days! My husband is particular about his hair as well and has been very pleased with Eric's work. We really like his new setting. D.J.'s is a lovely salon, it has a very pleasant atmosphere, is comfortable and peaceful! There is lots of free parking just steps away from the salon entrance. My hubby stumbled on Eric (mistook him for another hairdresser who sent out a flyer advertisement for new business, definitely was not Eric, his schedule is packed!) and was soooo happy with him, he told me to try him out. WOW, SOOOOO HAPPY. He's the one I've been looking for all my life! He asked questions like, "how often do you blow dry your hair" or "do you have time in the morning to style it", etc. Basically, he wanted to know what the best and most convenient haircut would be to fit my lifestyle, a working mother of a toddler. He did a wonderful job. Layered my long, shabby locks, perfectly. And most importantly, made it so I could just wake up and walk out the door, just what I needed! So happy we found someone extremely skilled, reasonably-priced ($40 for men, $60 for women), and very nice/kind. He was even gracious when I had to bring in my toddler. Her loud giggling and craziness didn't throw him off at all and he interacted so sweetly with her, showing his true colors as a loving uncle of 3 nieces! He's great all-around.
