My daughter has been getting her hair cut and highlighted by Kate (Kate8) for a couple years and this is a long overdue review. Kate is incredibly skilled with an eye towards detail. My daughter has thick, dark Asian hair and I was concerned that highlights would look orange or fake but Kate has managed to give her that perfect "sun-kissed" glow. The stylist I ended up seeing was super nice, I truly loved her vibe, we had similar tastes, and she was so easy to talk to. She did nothing wrong, and handled everything well. However, the issue lies with how my appointment was managed. I had specifically booked with another stylist whose work I'd admired for months. I chose them carefully after a lot of research, especially because I don't trust just anyone with my hair. I hadn't had a cut in over a year or professional color in nearly three, so this appointment really mattered to me. On the day of my visit, I was surprised to learn that my appointment had been switched to a different stylist, without any prior notice or explanation. I went through with it because my hair desperately needed attention, but I felt completely blindsided. I had planned around my crazy work schedule and made a thoughtful choice with the stylist and salon and that effort was disregarded. While I'm grateful to the stylist I saw, I won't be returning to this salon. Trust is a big deal for me when it comes to my hair, and this experience left me feeling upset. It's been two weeks and I'm still upset and my white hair is already back as well. read more

Has it really been 3 years?? James is the only stylist in my 14 years of living here that I have returned to over and over again. He is THE BEST! James is a fabulous stylist who always revives my hair (because I'm terrible at coming in on a regular schedule), giving me cuts that are suitable for my age but not out of fashion (important), encourages self care and is SUPER professional about his recommendations for hair care. My stylist was nice and the place has a good vibe. However, I had an issue with the quality of the work. I wanted warm highlights that looked natural since I have very dark hair. Unfortunately, the stylist I had gave me more like blonde highlights. When she bleached my hair, I was concerned since typically the highlights I get are so warm that they don't require bleaching. She saw I was concerned, told me that if I didn't like it because it was too light, I could always come back and get it redone, which made me feel better and I appreciated. She continued the work and it ended up being way too light compared to the pictures I had shared and what I had asked for. That evening I reached out asking to get it fixed. She kindly scheduled it for me and I went in after a few days to get a darker toner to get it to what I had originally asked for. However, to my surprise, at the end of that 2nd visit, I was asked to pay $200. I payed, went to my car and cried. I felt that there was an opportunity here for the stylist to let me know during my 1st visit that fixing it would have been at my expense. I appreciate and value their time so I probably would have still come in and payed for it but it felt misleading to tell me on the 1st visit they could fix it early on when the work was being done, to then have me come in a 2nd time and surprise me with a large bill at the end. I went home and despite it all was happy to be done although I had at this point spent so much money and hours on this - but it doesn't end there and this is the hardest part... my hair was red on the back. I didn't notice it at the salon because the front looked fine, but when I got home and looked at the back with a mirror, I had many red strings. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I reached out to the stylist with pictures and she was apologetic and told me she wouldn't have let me leave the salon if she would have seen the red strings. I have a hard time with that statement because she blow dried my hair, there were easily 10+ red strings so there is no way she would have missed it. I ended coordinating coming in a 3rd time. Multiple experienced stylist evaluated my hair at that visit to try to figure out why my hair was red. They ended up realizing the stylist had used a toner that was red based by mistake. Ultimately, one of the stylist fixed it. I was clear from the beginning that I was not expecting to pay for that 3rd visit and appreciated them reassuring me that I did not have to pay for it. At the end of all of these visits, many hours, tears, and $590 later, I was happy to put this behind me and move on. 6months have passed and unfortunately, my red strings have come back. I'm assuming this is as I continue to wash my hair and the toner dies down. My hair is destroyed and very unhealthy at this point from all the treatment. Now I need to invest more money to fix the resurfaced red strings. I am sharing this because I want others to be aware of confirming ahead of time if there is a cost involved should there be a fixing visit that is offered and make sure you look at the back of your hair before you leave. Giving it a 2 star review for the friendliness of the staff and because the experienced stylists looked very knowledgeable. I really wanted it to work out but unfortunately that did not happen for me. I called Salon 1322 after reading the reviews and chose Deb as my stylist because of her ideals on going back to ones natural root color for low maintenance style. By sheer luck she had a cancellation for the next day and I was able to be seen. I hadn't gotten my hair done in quite some time due to my fears of some past bas bleaching, but deb re assured me with time and processing we could get back to my root color. Her keen attention to detail and genuine passion for her craft was very evident. She took the time to listen attentively to my preferences and concerns, ensuring that she understood exactly what I wanted and she also taught me how to properly use my curling iron and didn't pressure me to get any products! I went back the next week to grab some when I tested them out again and I'm really grateful I did! Back in 2018, I found my hair hero, Katie, and I haven't looked back since! She's the wizard behind my ever-changing hair adventures--from blues and purples to my latest situation: a pink and purple split dye that turns heads wherever I go. I'm a bit camera-shy, otherwise, I'd post photos to show off her work. Total strangers compliment my hair almost every time I go out in public. That's the Katie effect for you. Now, let's talk money, because I see a few reviews mentioning the high prices. Yes, it's a pretty penny at this salon, but it's worth every cent. My hair is super thick and hard to lighten, but Katie works her magic, lifting it several times a year without fail. And despite my near-daily heat styling, my hair is still relatively healthy and thick, all thanks to the Salon's top-notch products and Katie's skills. I've had pieces of hair literally break off after a lightening session at cheaper salons. So I'm willing to pay premium prices for a premium experience. Also, the whole team at the salon is just as lovely as the atmosphere at this salon. I've never had a negative experience with ANYONE. And someone always offer me snacks, drinks, reading material, etc. So there you have it!
