And my personal experience was slightly better than my overall opinion of them. They did a good job processing me, partly thanks to my lawyer, and it was a lot less painless than I thought it would be. It's still not a very professional service and the guards at the border... terrible... however for my actual citizenship process they did a good job and personally I am grateful that it's over.

If you have the opportunity, take one of the free guided tours so you can learn more about the history, architecture and building of this masterpiece. There are so many incredible details and so much outstanding art. You can view it on your own (there is some signage about what it is) but you really get a better understanding and experience if you take one of the tours. They are offered on weekdays at noon and are free! The 13th floor houses the council chambers and there is a gorgeous sunburst skylight that is absolutely worth seeing. The thing not to miss is the observation deck. The views from the 28th floor are simply spectacular! You will have to take some stairs to reach the observation level, so keep that in mind if you have difficulty with mobility. Whether you tour the inside or just catch a glimpse from the street of the majestic columns and imposing structure, don't come to Buffalo and miss a visit to City Hall!

One person at the kiosk where you sign in, and by the time they were done, and it was my turn to sign in the party waiting for their number to be called was heading to a window. It looks more like it was just built in Frankfurt or Hong Kong or any one of the shiny new downtowns full of skyscrapers around the world. As glorious as it looks, I don't like what goes on here. I've only been in and out of here once, but I don't like the way I was treated, not on the way in, not while inside, and not by mail before and after that day. In fact I find the whole system to be a little corrupt, but in Buffalo and NY State in general, the problem is quite deep-rooted. NCDSS makes ECDSS seem A-OK. It took me 6 months AND a lawyer from Legal Aid simply to get SNAP benefits transferred to NCDSS from the next-door county! ECDSS knows how to calculate for someone who has freelance employment. NCDSS does not and constantly threatened me about being "over-limit" and kept cutting me off. I was in a Fair Hearing overseen by Albany annually with NCDSS morons, and won. NCDSS can't get paperwork in the mail on time, lies all the time about giving extensions when they're the ones who are late, loses paperwork even if you fax it directly to them or hand it in at the window and get a receipt, and now they even have this thing where people do not have a worker. I was told by whomever answers the phone there that this is because the workers were whining that alphabetical order assignments are "unfair" and make some of them have a larger client load than others as there are far more surnames that begin with C or S, for example, than other letters. So you can't even call someone when there is a problem. Not that they answer the phone there anyway. I gave up after a few years of putting up with NCDSS nonsense and simply cut my budget beyond the bone. Lost a ton of weight. Recently I had to go back an re-apply for SNAP due to the death of my ancient car, so that I could afford a small car payment on another old clunker. Nothing's changed and I STILL had to get a lawyer for approval! For $51 less in SNAP due to Congress and its budget cuts, despite having no real change in income. Those of you dealing with ECDSS who think it's terrible, just remember, it's a LOT worse across the canal! ECDSS is much more competent. I know, it seems hard to believe, but it's true. And Erie Co has a huge client base as opposed to the more rural, less-populated Niagara Co, yet ECDSS is so much better at doing their jobs.
