We had a major travel SNAFU.. realized on a Saturday that my passport was set to expire less than the required 3-months after our departure from Greece. Husband and kids were good to go, somehow it slipped through the cracks after months of planning that mine was not. We are flying to Greece on Wednesday! I spent the evening researching all of our options and decided the only sure way was to get a same- day appointment at a passport agency to renew my passport. I was lucky enough to secure an appointment at the Buffalo Passport Agency for noon on Monday- 2 days before our departure to Greece. I booked a last minute flight from NC and made it to Buffalo NY. I arrived at the passport agency about 90 minutes early and they let me in. I breezed through check in (pro tip- have all your paperwork and required documents ready!) My number was called, I shared my flight details and renewal forms- and the most wonderful employee told me to come back between 3pm and 4pm to retrieve my new passport. Flew 300 miles from Baltimore to get a last minute passport for an overseas trip the following day. Friendly and efficient is the best way I can describe the experience at the Buffalo Passport Agency. From the security guards to the agency staff, everyone immediately put me at ease and they were processing my application, less than 10 minutes after I passed the security screen. I had the passport in hand at 1:55pm some 5 hours later. I didn't want to wander too far since I didn't rent a car, so I checked out a local cafe (on the same block) and walked to the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library (which is really nice too). So the immediate reaction to a last minute passport renewal is - long lines, sullen employees, 50/50 chance you'll get what you need. My experience started the same way - due to Covid, Bahamas required a passport that was valid for 6 moths past the travel date (duh mine expired 2 months after). Answer? Being from Philly - get an appointment for something "local" - no such luck. Philly, Boston, NYC, Washington DC all booked. Options were Buffalo NY, Portsmouth NH, Denver CO and New Orleans. With covid-cancel running rampant i decided on a drive - Buffalo NY it was. Still with some trepidation - would i get it? Would someone give me a hard time? Most importantly, if i failed would my wife give me YEARS of crap for screwing it up. Result? (If you like this kinda thing) - a nice 6hr driver from PHL to BUF - stayed in a nice Westin about 6 min from the Passport agency and got ready for my 9:30am appointment. Arrived at 9:10 (early is better always) - was ushered in, submitted my paperwork and was told "looks good - come back at 12pm for your passport". Parked out front at 11:40 - got personal cell phone call saying "you're passport is ready! Come on in" - in/out 10 minutes. I really don't think I've ever EVER had a better experience that what i had today at the Buffalo Passport Office! Davidia checked me in, David got my stuff in order and Heidi delivered the final product - start to finish - 3 hour and then i was on the way home. We made a passport appointment in Buffalo from NYC. It was the closest appointment we would get. Drove 6+ hours because we were traveling overseas in a couple of days. The last thing we wanted was to have to deal with rude employees or being given a hard time. We had 4 passports to pick-up, same day! Me, my wife, and twin daughters. I could of believe how quick the process was. I had an 11am appointment and arrived at 10:30am. I was greeted by super friendly security personnel. There were about 5 people before me and I went to the first teller who was already aware of my issue (getting my daughter's passport processed. He had a copy of the application I had previously submitted to the state. I then waited about 5 minutes later to be attended by the person who would process my new application. He was so nice and put me at ease. I was out by 11:00 am with a return slip for me to pick up my passport at 3 pm. Apparently passports get picked up between 3 and 4 so I decided to tour Buffalo with my daughter. I was overwhelmed by the whole process but this was by far the smoothest step. We are very lucky to have a passport agency here in Buffalo! My passport was set to expire soon and my plan was to renew it the usual old way. And then I booked a surprise trip to Europe and suddenly only had a few weeks to get a new passport in hand! (Most countries can refuse your entry if your passport has fewer than six months of validity left.) At the Buffalo Passport Agency, you can get a new passport pretty much immediately if you have travel booked within two weeks. You just need to bring your photos, payment, and your application with appropriate documents. I got there just before closing on a Tuesday and picked up my passport that Thursday. You'll pay a premium for express service but if it's an emergency, it's worth it, right?? Appointments are preferred and can be made on their website. going on 15 weeks still no passport for my husband. applied March 22 and received March 29. called June 22nd to get it expedited and 1-2 day shipping. status goes from "in process to not available". called locator 77 number and the lady states that number is not for the public and to call national passport. which I did and they couldn't tell me much either except to pay for expedited. contacted senator /congressman and filled out privacy forms but have yet to hear anything back from them. this has been extremely frustrating. my son applied same day ended up in same locator 77 was routine shipping and his took about 11 weeks.15 weeks with no information is crazy. read more

Hands down the BEST government experience I have ever had!!! I am still blown away at how kind, fast, affordable, and easy this experience has been... there are a lot of thing in the US that don't work well.... Many processes are inhuman, burdensome, and expensive. Why make it such a hassle to get a last minute passport renewal? Why only have a few locations for emergency passport renewal in the country? I don't know. BUT, for all the ways I have felt dehumanized by other bureaucratic systems, the Buffalo Passport Agency is a light in the dark. They were FAST, incredibly kind, caring, and supportive. They allowed the process to be easy. They did not make it harder. I was in and out in 15 minutes, and will pick up my new passport in a few hours after it is printed, same day. Not to mention, I was greeted by incredibly KIND security guards at the door in and out, who genuinely cared to know me and support my process. Unreal. They saved my trip. I have a new passport, renewed in ONE day, (two days before my flight) - yes I had to drive 6hr each way to get here but I enjoyed the trip, and Buffalo Passport Agency saved the day. For those wondering - yes - just bring all the proper criteria, your new photo, prints of your upcoming plane ticket , and the correct renewal form from your post office and your old passport if you haven't registered it as lost and you will have your NEW PASSPORT in a few hours for a GREAT price.
