We have been patients of Dr. Simms for years, and I do believe she is a good doctor. Both of my children have seen her, and medically we have always felt they were in good hands. Unfortunately, our recent experience with the office staff -- and ultimately the decision not to see my daughter, was extremely disappointing. We had an appointment for a routine ear tube follow-up from a surgery that took place over a year ago. My husband had recently started a new job, so our insurance had just changed at the beginning of the month. It was only the 5th of the month, and we were still waiting for the new insurance cards to arrive in the mail (the insurance company had told us 7-10 business days). I explained the situation to the office staff and offered multiple solutions. I told them I would send a photo of the insurance card as soon as it arrived, and I also offered to pay entirely out of pocket for the visit that day. Despite this, we were still refused the appointment. What made the experience even more frustrating was that we sat there for about 40 minutes trying to work through possible solutions and get insurance information through my husband's employer. During that time, the office staff was not helpful or kind. We had driven 30 minutes to get there and had pulled my daughter out of school for what should have been a quick routine check-up. In the end, we left without having her ear tubes checked at all. As a parent, that is upsetting. I now worry whether everything is OK, and I feel it was irresponsible not to see a child for a follow-up appointment when a parent was willing to self-pay and resolve the insurance details afterward. read more

Unfortunately, my kids' chronic ear troubles led us here, but who knew seeing a specialist and needing (multiple) surgeries could be such a great experience?! Clear communication, easy availability, amazingly gifted with young and scared kiddos... she has presented herself as an advocate for what's best for my kiddos since their charts entered her hands and it is so reassuring as a mom to know that their medical provider is considering the whole child- their future- their present experience, etc. She is incredibly patient, creative, and a true expert in her field. I couldn't be more impressed with Dr Simms! She put my son and me at ease and was AMAZING!!!! I felt totally comfortable with her, and I have a masters in nursing so I'm a tough customer! My only disappointment is she's not a general pediatrician so we can't see her more regularly!!!! read more

Dr. Simms-Edwards was quickly able to diagnose my son's problem. She couldn't perform the necessary procedure in her office. So, she and her front office quickly contacted a colleague and got my son a same day appointment for the necessary procedure, otherwise we would've ended up in the ER - again. I cannot say enough about Dr. Simms-Edwards. She is beyond amazing. Her bedside manner is exceptional and she is so warm and kind. My son needed his tonsils and adenoids out and we were both nervous about it. Having your child need surgery is scary. Dr. Simms- Edwards made this process so much easier. She is so friendly, and made me feel much more at ease with the surgery. Her front desk staff was also very helpful. My son absolutely adored her too. I wanted to award Dr. Simms-Edwards a badge after I saw her yesterday. Not a police badge, but something like a Sherlock Holmes badge because of her terrific detective skills. (Only, quite honestly, she's much nicer than Shersock was reputed to be.) I came to see her after 3-4 other unsuccessful attempts with other doctors. I handed over to her the growing bag of clues, all of them mis-diagnosed by the others, and she made short work of solving the mysteries. She was able to tie in a lot of seemingly unrelated symptoms to a comprehensive, understandable diagnosis and methods to deal with it. Further, she was able to see it so easily, and she made it clear to me why her suggestions, completely different from those of anyone else, were obviously what was going on. Made me feel like I'd gone into the dark mines with all the other doctors, and never struck gold. But she... she was able to say, "Hey! Why don't we turn on a light down here?!" read more

Dr Simms-Edwards was great. I had a nasty sinus and chest infection that wouldn't quit, and her information and perscriptions were exactly what my body needed. My primary care physician had prescribed an antibiotic that wasn't the right fit, and Dr. Simms-Edwards knew what would work and also what not to take while on it. I read the other reviews, and was surprised about the wait. It's always a challenge to visit the doctor on lunch break and have to wait more than expected. Suggestion to try to book the appointment in the early morning so you're one of the first in the office. Dr. Simms-Edwards is great. She was very friendly and took the time to explain everything to me. I wouldn't see anyone else. read more

In late afternoon, my son ended up in Children's Hospital ER with an object in his ear and they were unable to get the object out (an Orbeez!!!) The following morning, Dr. Simms-Edwards and her office accommodated our family and Dr. Simms-Edwards saw our son in very short notice. She was very calming and reassuring, and her bedside manner was superb. She's an angel and we are very blessed that she was able to help our son. I was very nervous entrusting my child to a doctor, knowing it involved surgery. I was relieved by the stellar recommendations I got from other pediatric physicians and peers in the community. My 8 year old daughter was suffering from strep throat a lot and asthma. I was so concerned with her being sick all the time, I asked our pediatrician to refer us to a specialist. She recommended Dr. Simms. I called the office made a appointment with her staff which was very helpful with school notes and insurance information. Aweful, do not go here. They will reel you in promising you are covered and wham! you will get hit with a crazy bill and the disclaimer that they are "not responsible for your medical insurance." Sure but then don't say you accept an insurance when you don't! This has never happen to me before. I'm not a rookie. Called them and double checked day of appointment at the front desk. Took my daughter to see her, we were concerned she had polyps. the Dr. was fantastic, personable, patient and did a great job with our 9 year old - in what was a really uncomfortable procedure. She thoroughly explained everything to our daughter so she knew what to expect, did the procedure quickly and then gave our daughter a lollipop, which she thoroughly deserved after having a tube shoved up her nose. Dr Simms-Edwards is the best. We first saw her because our baby had a minor lip tie that was affecting breastfeeding, so the doctor gave the little one a small snip and the feeding improved. We then saw her frequently to assess our baby's ears, which suffered from mild but chronic ear infections during her first year. Our baby wound up getting PE (pressure equalization) tubes after a second serious ear infection. Dr Simms-Edwards performed the surgery at Children's Hospital Oakland, and although I was a little afraid of the whole process (full sedation), they all did a wonderful and top-notch job. I love Dr Simms-Edwards' friendliness and professionalism, and how she handled the decision to move forward with PE tubes: she didn't resort to this option too early, but ultimately made the recommendation to avoid future illnesses and to promote better language development in the baby. read more

I could never express how happy and please my family and I are with Dr Sims-Edwards. She has been nothing but amazing and sweet to my 2 year old along with myself. After seeing multiple Drs who had no answers and were not sure what was going on and leaving me confused , scared, and worried about my little girl Dr Sims-Edwards has given me nothing but answers. If i could have her as a pediatrician I would! My has performed two outpatient surgeries on my 2 year old in one month. You could imagine all the emotions a mother would be going through, but Dr was always cheerful, smiling, comforting and always gave me the reassurance that everything is ok. My 2 year old has come to know who she is and is quite fond of her as well. Even when I had questions that may have been not so important but seemed urgent to myself, she was there answering her cell phone after hours reassuring me that everything I was concerned about is normal and if it wasnt she had me in the exact next morning. All while still in a cheerful mood and laughing. We are going on 3 months of having follow ups every 2 weeks with her and she in nothing but thorough and explains everything to us as well as answers all our questions. I could never thank her enough for how well she has treated my daughter and family, how comforting she could of possibly made me feel with each surgery. I would give her 5+ stars! she is great! I think Dr. Simms-Edwards is competent and friendly but not great on follow through and her office staff is horrendous. She operated on my 2 yr old daughter on a Friday, we noticed swelling on Sunday and tried to call the answering service but could not get through to anyone. Called on Monday and her assistant basically told me something that I knew incorrect and said I'd have to wait to speak to the Dr. until my post-op meeting on Weds. Turns out Dr. Simms-Edwards was OOTO until Weds. When I met with her at the post-op she said, "oh, I thought I should have given you my cell phone just in case". Seriously!?! You just operated on my 2 yr old - of course you should have given me your cell phone number just in case! I thought my daughter had nerve damage but have come to realize it was likely due to a birth defect that became more obvious / pronounced through the surgery. However, I kept following up with the Dr. on it b/c I was obviously nervous about it. At our last meeting she said she'd call in 3 or 4 weeks and never did. I am not impressed. I think there is something seriously wrong in this profession. Perhaps she is too busy to keep every patient in mind and give them the care and concern that they need - or she's just desensitized to it. Whatever the case may be, I think she needs to be reminded that it's the patients that keep her in business and good service as well as a great skill set, is what we deserve. read more

She was able to see my daughter immediately after a sports injury (broken nose) and also fit her in to her surgery schedule the next day to make it possible for my daughter to travel to an important out of state tournament the next day. As a college athlete herself, we truly appreciated that she understood how important this event was to my daughter. She was kind, upbeat, professional and thorough. Every time, I called the front desk, she told me she will text to Dr and let her reply to you. But I have been waited for 10 days, no response at all. So I have to change the doctor. read more

I really like Dr. Simms Edwards, but cannot recommend her due to the shocking way her staff treat patients. It's common to be cut off, put on hold and never spoken to again, have weekly calls never returned, etc. I wish I could say they are overworked or busy which is probably the case, but the practices are just plain patient abuse. I am forever grateful to dr Simms Edwards. One year ago my newborn daughter had a thick attached posterior frenulum and was unable to breastfeed. She had been seen by two prior skilled ENT surgeons and had frenulectomies that were incomplete. I went to see her for a consultation and was sure I would not do any more procedures as I was so disappointed in the care I had already received. As a physician myself I was blown away by her knowledge, expertise, and compassion. She did the procedure that day and did it correctly. I was able to breastfeed right there in her office. I don't think she knows what an impact she made on my life. My daughter is now turning one and still breastfeeding. Thank you dr Simms Edwards! read more

I agree with the other reviewer that it takes a while to get an appt (4 weeks for me) and they run behind schedule (close to an hour) but i felt it was worth it as she was great. she is super friendly/outgoing/interested and doesnt rush you or the appt in anyway--probably the reaon for the wait--so i will do that trade anytime as i didnt feel rushed at all. she was very thorough and thoughtful and answered all of my questions and she was extremely competent. so i would highly recommend her as a dr with the caveat that if you have an urgent situation it would be an issue as she books 4 weeks out. read more

I called the office on 7/15/08 to get an appointment with Dr. Erin Simms-Edwards. The soonest available time was 3 weeks later on August 5th. The Front Office Staff sent me an e-mail requesting to pre-register information. The day before my appointment, like a good Patient, I attempted to enter their registration site 3 times to pre-register but to no avail the system would not let me. I contacted the office and the staff said, "oh yeah we've had some calls regarding that. Just come in a bit earlier to complete the paperwork." I showed up about 5 minutes early for my appointment. I completed requested paperwork and upon turning it in I asked if the Dr. was running behind. There was a pause from the staff and then they stated that she was running about 30 minutes late. OK, I get it. I want good service as well so I really shouldn't gripe about 30 minutes because hopefully she'll give me the same attention. I went to sit back down and waited..... waited..... waited. Finally 50 minutes past my scheduled appointment I asked the staff how much longer. Really they didn't have an answer. I proceeded to ask if I reschedule would it take me 3 weeks to get another appointment only to wait again in the waiting room and they said yes it would take 3 weeks. Frustrated I sat back down and waited. Finally after 1 hour past my schedule appointment I had enough of waiting. I'm sure Dr. Simms-Edwards is a good Doctor; she's quite busy but I fine it rude to keep a new patient waiting after it taking 3 weeks to get the appointment. Oh and they kept telling Patients walking in that she was only 30 minutes behind. Maybe me leaving speed up her timing. I, on the other hand, was late for my next appointment! read more
