This is your classic upscale beach town gift shop. You will most certainly NOT see cheesy magnets…read moreor novelty t-shirts. This is a shop for people that own beach houses or have relatives that do. Or who have fully embraced the nautical or "beach" aesthetic in their homes. I do tease. This stores carries a well-curated array of gifts. These include such things as hand-made pottery, jewelry, candles, cards and an array of objet d'arts. There is dominant color palate of blues, greens and driftwood. It is a very nice shop and one that you could easily spend quite a while picking out a tasteful gift for a loved one. The Steamer Trunk has a lovely inventory. And it of course carries merchandise emblazoned with "Catalina Island." It's just that it's the same inventory I've seen when I've visited my mother near Rehobeth Beach. Or the Waterfront in Baltimore where my sister lives. It would have been nice to have seen some more local artists/artisans represented. As you might expect, the gift shop wasn't on the cheap side, but, to be fair, for the quality of the goods for sale it was reasonable. Resort towns (and California and especially Catalina) are typically on the pricier side. This is an economy fed primarily through tourism. But, again, prices were not exorbitant. When I visited there several other shoppers in the store and the woman tending the register was answering question for them. I felt like I would have no problem getting helpful answers. So, while not unique, definitely a place to find some beautiful gifts.

About my bouquet, I chose flowers that reminded me of loved ones who passed away: sunflowers for dad, roses for my grandma and lilies for my Aunt Lily. Because my husband was allergic to lilies, she removed part of it so he wouldn't be a sneezing mess haha. As for the store, there were lots of good quality items from clothing to accessories. I can tell the store had a lot of history behind it as evidenced by pictures of her family along the walls. I was pleasantly surprised to know Brittani was a USC alumni like me. Go Trojans! It is a very cute gift shop. They sell cute woman's clothing. Sweaters were 10$ off (not sure how long this sale will last). There were several cute sweaters to chose from. They had a sign on the door for $20 UGG boots but don't be deceived they aren't authentic UGGS (obviously). They also have super cute wallets and comfy beach clothes (too bad it's too cold to wear a cute dress right now). Definitely a cute store to check out.

This year, we decided to look at their "Epic Magnet Wall". To be fair, I don't know if I'd consider the wall "Epic", but not only did we find a magnet for ourselves, we found several other items, and at a price that didn't hurt my head or my wallet. The lady that checked us out couldn't have been more friendly and personable, and let us know that she was the "Official Merchandise Tester" with a sly smile. She absolutely made the visit more fun, and we couldn't be happier with our purchases.

Cozy Fabric: In October, Catalina Island can get pretty chilly at night time! Before quickly walking over to the movie theater, I stopped at this cute store and picked up a fuzzy-wuzzy sweater jacket to keep warm & it totally worked! Not your typical printed embossed stuff, mind you, but old-school embroidered. I found one design I particularly liked on a sweatshirt (not the season for one where I live, but it was perfect). I brought it to the register where I met Dina. When I mentioned how pleased I was about the quality of the embroidered work, she smiled and explained they were embroidered "in the back." I was impressed. We continued talking and I mentioned how much I loved the unique designs, nothing I'd seen anywhere. She smiled even more and admitted she'd designed them! I asked more about how (I do some graphic design work) and turns out she does them by hand. By hand! Not using modern technology, but true art. Please, if you visit Catalina Island, check out this shop. It's the middle storefront at the Hotel MacRae, the sign was missing on my visit. Buy one of Dina's embroidery designs. Buy several. Our visit to the island was amazing and we will be back. Each trip I intend to bring home a Dina original.

They have everything like seashells, wind chimes, signs, shot glasses, souvenirs, and more. Most things are made from sea shells and the colors are so pretty. We really like the seashell chimes and dream catchers here. Everything is reasonably priced and very well made. The workers here are always so friendly. They package the purchased gifts for customers very well too. Definitely come in to find some cute gifts if you ever visit Avalon!

This shop is located near the cafe and inside metropole market place with other retail locations. It is located off the main broadwalk in a busy shopping center. Highly recommend coming to this shop prior to making any purchases as most everything on the island is not refundable or returnable.
