Went in for IV antibiotics after an accidental cat bite from one of my rescue kitties. I was an ER travel nurse most of my career and this was the WORST experience I've ever seen in an ER. 1. BP on arrival was 200/103. Didn't ask about chest pain. No telemetry, no EKG. DIDN'T EVER RECHECK IT - EVEN AT DISCHARGE!! 2. Didn't ask about allergies 3. Never asked my pain level 4. Did not weigh me 5. Did not reconcile my home meds 6. [[HIGHLIGHT]]12-year old resident got an attitude because I refused to take the 5-dose, 14-day rabies shot series because I TOLD HIM, the cat isn't sick!![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He's MY cat, and he was sleeping on the bed RIGHT BESIDE ME!! The only reason he flipped out was he does NOT like other cats and unbeknownst to me, another kitty had been hiding in my dresser and it freaked him out when he saw him and a fight ensued. I just got caught in the crossfire. He brought THAT up 3 more times before giving me a single dose of Augmentin and a script (and an xray that I probably didn't need). I specifically asked for an IV loading dose of Unasyn and a shot of SoluMedrol since my hand was swollen to twice its normal size (also because I wouldn't be able to get the Rx filled until after work the next day) - which he purely ignored. My husband was brought by ambulance due to a suspected stroke. He arrived around 6:00 pm. He was seen immediately and had a series of tests and scans. Then he was moved from the emergency room to an observation area. From that point on he had little attention. He asked for something to eat because he'd never had dinner. The answer was maybe in the morning. During the night he was cold and hungry. In the morning he was given nothing. He repeatedly asked for something to eat. I feel that some of the complaints from previous commenters were due to their being an overwhelming amount of patients coming to the emergency department. They can't say go away we are full. This hospital is beyond awful. From the emergency room to the slower than a snail pace of every facet of this organization. I've had loved ones in this facility over the years and have never been impressed-it once took 8 hours to discharge the patient from when dr put in orders. Another time discharge was supposed to to be for that day but the dr didn't get to it so loved one had to spend another night there -like no big deal. Recently had a loved one in the ER for 2days. The nursing staff in the ER is a disgrace to their profession. Perhaps not every nurse but there a lot of people sitting around looking at screens all day when there are a lot of patients that need tending to. I walked up to family members nurse. She saw me coming, got up from her computer and left the room. Nice!! No one comes and talks to family and tells them what's going on and the indifference of the staff this last time made it the last time I ever bring my family to Erlanger EVER again. Very unprofessional, saw doctors on their phones, techs on their phones. Very dirty and the trauma room was 80+ degrees. Wouldn't do simple care, like cleaning wounds, told me I could clean them myself at home. Very slow and nurses didn't follow sterile procedures. I wouldn't go here if my life depended on it. Everyone seemed clueless and didn't care enough to give proper, sterile care. Long wait in the emergency room. Even after having a heart attack. Long wait for a room. Treated in the lobby instead of a room. Had to call my Dr. for help. His call to the heart floor brought a heart PA to me in the emergency room. And helped me get a room faster. According to some here it seems as though their emergency room is more crowded now because of the CV treatment which is causing side effects. Blood clots, stroke and heart conditions. Also. More illegals who don't have a Dr. The weekends are not as busy at the emergency room. I learned a lot by asking questions during a long hospital stay. 5 stars go to the Dr's and staff on the heart floor. Dr Shear may be the best heart surgeon in the world. I was told he does bypass surgery in under 3 hours. But they do not allow family members to donate blood for surgery. You have to accept blood from the controversial blood supply. No way around it. Die without emergency surgery if you won't sign off on a blood transfusion. If this is a concern to you, you might want to have elective surgery elsewhere. I have a relative who is a Dr. here. He warned us that this is a teaching hospital. But that wasn't a problem for us. 5 stars for the hospital cafeteria. Starbucks, Subway and Chick Fil-A are open til evenings. There are salads, veggie burgers, pizza and Chinese food until about 2 pm. The salad restaurant is the only one to visit. 3 vegan options. That is where the Drs eat. But most at the hospital and visitors seem to go for the unhealthy fried chicken. Upstairs for the patients there is a vegan option of veggie burgers for lunch and dinner. Salad and fresh fruit. Don't order the vegan wrap it us too spicy. Just get used to a veggie burger twice a day if you want to eat heart healthy. When you leave, the Drs will tell you to go on a vegan, low carb, no sugar, no fried food diet free of seed oils. If you are a heart patient. They do prescribe too many medications. And they push laxatives. So be careful.So if you are reading this in the emergency room and want to send a family member for food; have them go th through the double doors to the right, and by the restrooms. Head straight back. Make the left when you have to. Go straight back to the 3 brown elevators. Make a right and go into the restaurant area. If you want the Starbucks pass the elevators, keep going straight. Make a right when you see the reception desk. Keep going straight back. When you come to a large room make a sharp right. It's right there. Oh and always park your car in the emergency room garage just opposite of the emergency room. The payment is automated. And you have to use the touch screen to open the gate. Morning rush hour is crazy on the way to the hospital from the hwy. And you will most likely need to use the far right lane. There is a point where the far left lane must turn. Get to the middle lane which then becomes the left lane and your turning lane at the emergency room. Main parking is only entered from the main street in front of the hospital. Plenty of handicapped spots in the emergency room parking area. read more

My mom had a stroke on May 23rd, 2023. She spent 3 long days in the ER. Nurses would leave her sitting in her own feces even after being told she needed cleaned many times, they would still be in the same spot when I would go remind them. It should not take an hour to clean someone up unless theres an actual emergency going on. She was awake and responding right after the stroke, able to squeeze with her left and right hand, she could lift both legs easily on Tuesday and Wednesday, by Thursday she was not on an IV, not getting any fluids whatsoever, her left wrist was swollen, she screamed in pain when it was touched, her right knee was also swollen and hot to the touch. They did PT and OT on Tuesday right after arriving never to return so she was not moved at all. Not a good idea to not move a 88 year old woman that worked all her life up until a little over a year ago so she is very arthritic in most of her joints so of course on top of them being rough with her bc they were mad at me due to me calling them out for leaving her in her own feces for an hour. By Thursday she was incoherent, babbling, not urinating at all due to lack of fluids. She was at death's door. My siblings and I made sure that she was transferred to Siskins before they killed her. The pole holding her iv fluids was covered in blood and other bodily fluids from previous patients, the rooms were absolutely disgusting. The call button may as well not been there bc other than Tuesday they would not come until we called multiple times getting more and more angry with them. No one should be left in an ER for 3 days where there's nothing but cursing, fighting and nudity going on especially an elderly stroke victim. If you have a loved one that had a stroke do them and you a favor, take them to a better hospital than Erlanger. I am convinced that my mom wouldn't be here today had we not gotten her out when we did. What they did was elderly abuse. I had Covid in September and I was having complications with being dehydrated so I went to a Erlanger. I was taken to a room that had maybe six booths in it and then of them had a bed, it was dirty and I mean dirty there was caps off of syringes there was paper trash in the floor you could tell it had not been mopped in a very long time. They didn't even have a hanger hook for my IV bag they put it on a 3M hook! When you are sick enough to go to the hospital with Covid you at least need a bed to lay in. I was in there for hours there's no TV you can't have anyone with you and you have to sit in the chair that is the most unprofessional place I've ever been. read more

Just had my pacemaker installed"again". This trip showed me the professionalism one should expect from an organization such as this. Truely a complete 180 from what I was actually expecting after my first couple of encounters with the place. I was completely happy with every individual I was blessed to encounter. Then came the reason I cannot in all honesty give them a higher rating. The only other profession I can think of off hand, where you might actually be expected to pay for the same job twice is law enforcement, for repeat offenders. I get a call from from their "Mafia" harassment department for my co-pays before I am actually able to sit up and have a conversation. I doubt anyone there would expect to pay me for a rebuild on their Mercedes transmission in a situation where it never worked from the time it was done the first time....Same situation don't you think? read more

My last trip to Erlanger was short, but was memorable. I work at a hotel and one of our staff members fell and needed to be taken to the ER so we used our shuttle and I took her. Kellie the valet over at the Emergency room was a perfect example of what a valet should do to go above and beyond the job requirements. She assisted with getting a wheelchair for our staff member so she didn't have to walk, she didn't mention my shuttle being in the way (Which it very much was) and she did it all with a smile on her face. We took our 17year old son to the ER trying to get him help with his mental health. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The RN Alex was amazing. My older brother was a registered donor, when he passed away at Erlanger hospital in October 2021 where the hospital staff failed to send his personal belongings with him to the donation center in Nashville. The Donor representative noted they did not provide his belongings. My family lives in FL and we drove to TN. Upon arriving to TN, I was instructed by Walden Security to pick up his belongings 24/7 at the hospital. When I arrived about 8pm, the security office was empty and a sign stated call 423-778-7614 for assistance. When I called and reached the second shift hospital dispatcher I asked why the hospital staff did not provide his belongings with his body. As I knew she shad nothing to do with that process. It was a general question and I was looking for who could respond with an explanation. She was extremely rude. I stated I didn't feel like this process had gone smooth and I was stressed having to claim his items. Wallet, cellphone, medication, clothing, shoes, etc. I then overheard her on the office radio to the security officer stating "to handle me or she would". I called the number back told her I had overheard her comment about me and I asked for her name. She refused to give it to me, a coworker was screaming in the background to hang up on her hang up. I said I would file a complaint against her. As I left the office, there was blood drops down the main hallway. The hospital's quality of overall service and cleanliness has completely diminished. If you have a choice, please choose another hospital. My brother did not have choice when he was admitted. I do not recommend this hospital nor the staff. read more

I usually go to UT Erlanger Oncology and Hematology on Gunbarrel, but needed lab work in a rush one week so I was sent downtown. Parking was plentiful but the structure itself felt slightly unsafe and smelled like urine. Comes with the territory due to the location I suppose. Kind smiles and helpful advice on finding the proper elevator from the volunteer staff at the entry door. Love, love, loved the staff at the Oncology lab. You've GOT to have a sense of humor when working with needles and nervous patients. Even though I'm very used to having my blood drawn, I still nearly faint when I stand up. Can't help it. STFD, y'all. Just when things seem to be rolling along smoothly, I swear something awful happens to me. I will spare you any pictures of CN-post-fall. I started running again and on Fri, was 10 ft (no exaggeration) from my front door when I tripped. Face, meet concrete. I laid down for a bit in the vain hope that an ice pack of frozen veggies would help, then realized . . . no dice. Since I don't drive, calling 911 was my best option. From the EMTs who picked me up to every single person who helped me at Erlanger, I was so well cared for and cannot say enough good things about the whole experience (well, the face part sucks but what they did was awesome). Arriving about 1pm on Friday and spending a total of three ish hours there, I saw no less than four nurses and - THREE- doctors/surgeons. After an EKG (at least my heart is in really good shape!) and a CT scan etc, the three all came in to see me because they were individually and collectively amazed that, given the extent of the bruising, swelling and proximity to my eye (basically the left side of my face looks like someone took a bat to it), nothing was broken. I'm pretty amazed, too. Kindness, thoroughness (patient and straightforward answers to my questions), instructions for follow up, how to get hold of a plastic surgeon if (God forbid) I need it, and the use of "laymen's terms" for discussing my condition. A little morphine didn't hurt the experience, either. If you are ever in Chattanooga and find yourself in need of an ER, ask them to do not stop, do not pass go, just GO to Erlanger. read more

Exceptional/Excellent Customer Service provided on January 31, 2021 by the complete staff and cafeteria team at Erlanger East Surgery located on Gunbarrel Road first floor in Building B. Special Kudos to Dr. Huggins (Surgeon), Dr. Tarrent(Anesthesiologist) and Cheryl Bautista, RN for their care, concern and professionalism in not only making my mother and I feel at ease, but also being thoroughly informative pre and post op surgery. You not only could tell but also feel they love what they do and it reflected in their quality customer service. I will always remember not only how they treated my mother and I but also how they made us feel....calm and worry free which is awesome! Dec 12, 2020 my daughter went to Erlanger Baroness Hospital emergency room with severe stomach pain. She had had diarrhea earlier in the week and Saturday started vomiting and was struggling to keep even water down. She arrived somewhere around 10pm and was release around 4am. I have two complaints: One - She was in pain, sick, dehydrated, exhausted and dizzy. At some point during her stay she was given morphine, so I would add to the list disoriented. With all this she was not allowed a support person to be with her, not her girlfriend or even me (her mother). No one to advocate for her or provide her comfort. Two - my daughter was there for over 5 hours and they never put her in a room or a bed. They didn't offer her a pillow or a blanket. They didn't give her a better chair! She spent 5+ hours in the waiting room alone! Sick, in pain, disoriented, dehydrated, exhausted and on Morphine (prescribed by your medical professionals) and had to sit in an uncomfortable chair with no support for 5+ hours. I find this disgusting! It's heartless. I get better service for my dog at the veterinarian's office. I would never recommend this ER. read more

My daughter was treated for a sprained ankle at the ER. Since that day two months ago, I have been trying to get this hospital to give me an itemized bill so that I can see for what I am being charged. I have gotten three separate bills with nothing more specific than "hospital services", or "clinicians' bill". Hospitals use procedural codes with insurance companies all the time, but every person I have spoken to has treated me like I'm asking for something they simply can't help me with. No one gets itemized bills. Knowing this is not true, I'm beyond frustrated. I have a right to know what I am being charged for. read more

So far, so good. Except for the charge nurse, who is apparently nurse Ratchet. Her actual name is Jenny and she is about the rudest person I've spoken to today. When you're at the ER for a fractured vertebrae, you really don't care to hear the transport team berated because they didn't call ahead. I guess Jenny considers herself in charge of reservations. I've missed the names of most people with whom I've dealt since arriving, but my primary nurse is Nikki and she has been so accommodating. I'm sure I'll be here a while, and will probably have more to add to my experience. Hopefully, it'll all be as pleasant as Nikki. Update: second nurse in the ER is Caroline. A very pleasant and helpful young lady who apologized on behalf of Jenny. I'm hoping Jenny was just having a bad day and things got better. read more

My grandpa had to receive a 6 bypass open heart surgery and all went well with the operation and the surgery was fantastic ... however it has bothered me how the staff has been quite obnoxious and inconsistently impatient & trying in his stage of recovery. To piss off a 64 year old vet with patience and understanding after a vital operation isn't necessarily quality hospital care on the staffs end .. at a very highly praised medical hospital you would think the patient care and service would be top tier but after my visitor experience it seems more or less a mediocre , sub-par experience ..I'd hope in the near future that improvements will be made ... read more

Got to hosp at 0415 am for knee replacement for my partner. Because she needed a wheel chair we were last to check in at 0500 hrs. As a result we were last to check in at the floor & now 1125 am she has just gone into surg & all but 2 who arrived after us are finished. She is supposed to get a 2nd knee done but I be dam if it will be here but in Johnson City Tn. read more

My sister was on the sixth floor after having brain surgery. The nurses hardly ever checked on her and took forever to come if she called them. They left her sitting in her own fecies for 2 or more hours at a time. Didn't make sure she had her dinner one night and when she asked told her the cafeteria was closed. My sister was found unresponsive after who knows how long. I wonder if there would have been a different outcome if Erlanger staff cared? I would not take my dog to Erlanger. read more
