Where do I even begin to start?. I worked for EVS for years and this company is by far the worst. Starting with the management, Jon the operations manager, lies to the customers and to the employees. Matt Sowell, the general manager, is a con artist and he's very good at what he does. On numerous occasions ,before we were dispatched, Matt would tell us, his employees, not to mention the shuttle charge on the paperwork to the customer even though there was no need for a shuttle charge on the job.  EVS has made thousand and thousands of dollars on that "little lie" through out my employment.      On most of the "more important" pack jobs, the ones that had customers with "thick wallets", we were asked to use as many boxes as possible. He also wanted us to use more dish packs and small cartons than any other box because they were not only the most expensive for the customers but the cheapest for the company to purchase.     Another one of Matt Sowells big schemes was to reuse cartons from previous job pickups and charge the customers full price as if they were new. If a customer questioned the used cartons we were told to tell them that "we were experiencing a box shortage due to the covid shut down and that the office would correct the price. I dont know if they actually did but I feel bad for the customers that didnt question the cartons.    Matt was notorious for telling customers one thing and telling us something completely different. On every job we ever did, before we started, we would have the customer sign a contract called a "moving agreement". This contract listed all charges and the final cost of our labors that were previously agreed upon by both shipper (customer) and carrier (EVS). The amount of times that we would show up to the jobsite and find out that the Moving Agreement's final cost would higher than what the customer had originally agreed to is without number. And those are only the ones I know of. How many more thousands of dollars do you think EVS was able to shovel into their pockets with this "lil trick".     EVS will hire ANYONE just to have the man power to do their jobs. There are illegal immigrants hired to do all their dirty work in the warehouse. There is no screening process to be an employee. Child molesters, drug addicts, people who just got out of prison for anything from grand theft and identity fraud to violent crimes. It didnt matter. I personally wouldnt want to bring someone into my home who would want to harm my family or worse. EVS would always warn their employees before they are going to be drug tested so all the addicts can hopefully get and stay clean long enough to pass.    EVS would overwork their employees. A crew could get done at 3 a.m. and be expected to be back at 7 a.m. or fear losing their job. This is what created the problem that I see most in these other reviews that ive read. angry, rude employees. Of course they are angry and rude. They do one of the hardest jobs ever, with no sleep, 6 days a week, getting paid garbage wages. While Matt, the con artist, lines his pockets. read more

This was my THIRD move by Ernie's over the last 10 years. I was impressed when I moved in 2002 from Lake of the Pines (Auburn, CA) to Belmont, CA with 10,000 pounds. I had many imported antiques and they handled each item with respect and care. The second move was from Nevada City, CA to Grass Valley, CA and the two men arrived at 7:45 AM and loaded their truck, moved 5 miles to Grass Valley and unloaded; they were done and down the road at 9:15 AM and were embarassed that they had to charge me for the 2 hour minimum! Another quality and respectful move at a fair price. My latest move on October 15, 2012 was from Grass Valley to Napa, CA -- all on the same day. For the third time I was totally satisfied. I would recommend Ernies/Atlas to anyone with the highest rating. "Grandpa Ernie" set the standards in 1935 and his family still provides quality service with the greatest respect to a client and his/her household goods at a competitive price. Ernie's was highly recommended and we were impressed from the reasonable estimate to the final step in our relocation with a period of storage between homes. They are very professional and showed up on time. They went above and beyond dealing with our very steep driveway and even waived the "long carry" surcharge they probably were entitled to. We were amazed at how careful they handled our large travertine buffet top, by building a crate on site and padding it. It arrived in perfect condition, as did all of our belongings. The two crews were professional and experienced. I can't recommend Ernie's highly enough. I rarely write reviews, but am disturbed by the very negative comments on Yelp from previous people. Don, Sergio and Justin were the best hardest working crew ever! Not only did they work fast and efficiently, they were stellar humans who we enjoyed working with. My parents moved out of their 4000 plus square foot house they had lived in for almost 40 years. They spent their life collecting art and antiques. Many of the items were difficult to move and very precious to them. The boys showed up, worked quickly and carefully asking pertinent questions and gave us confidence that they understood how to handle their pieces. The entire experience was beyond expectation. Not sure if you can request a particular crew, but if you can, ask for these gentlemen. You won't be disappointed! Worth every penny spent. Great value for the effort put out. read more

We were very happy with Ernie's van and storage, they were reliable, friendly and treated our possessions with care. We used them to move us across town as well as a storage facility for our piano. All items arrived in good condition and the movers were very willing to put them where we wanted. We gave them 4 stars instead of 5 because there were 2 items that they couldn't fit on the truck. We had the impression that there was nothing that they could do about it. We moved those items ourselves. In all fairness our road was difficult to navigate with a large truck. In retrospect we should have requested a call to management to help get the items moved . Despite that we would definitely use them again and recommend them as movers. read more

Let me start by saying Christopher Wright was great. However, the company they contracted to move our household is deplorable. Don't Do it! Not for any amount of money... It's simply not worth it. I contracted through Atlas Van Lines. The driver misplaced 2 boxes, and failed to deliver a desk. After almost four months of follow-up (by me) I finally got my desk delivered. Unfortunately one of the boxes that was not delivered had all my son's memorabilia. He's 28 years old and now has no tangible pictures from his youth. All yearbooks, awards, and memories have vanished. So heartbreaking. The poor customer service and shady business practices only make it worse. Please don't do it... read more

So happy with them that I used them twice ! I moved into a new home and it was such a smooth and easy move. The movers were courteous and fast and even put my beds together for me before they left. I had such a great experience I used them a few weeks later when I had to move some furniture out of storage in the bay area up to nevada city. They did it even though there was an insane storm happening. No worries when you use them. The operations manager, John Luc , was so helpful through the entire process. Ernie's was the final leg in delivering a large leather sectional we purchased for our mountain top vacation home. As luck would have it, we were snowed in with multiple storms and our sectional was 'trapped' at Ernie's in Grass Valley for a couple of months. Once the snow cleared and our home was accessible, Michael scheduled it's delivery. His delivery crew was prompt, courteous, efficient and professional. I have a extensive art collection: large paintings on canvas, sculptures, glass works and artifacts. Moving has been nerve-racking because of my expensive and irreplaceable pieces. Ernie's movers were equipped with carriers designed to deliver art safely. Once I saw the system they used, I was relieved. They did a great job! Everything arrived in excellent condition. I recommend Ernie's to anyone who mentions moving. I've used expensive big name movers before, but not with the satisfaction that Ernie's provided. read more

I am thrilled I hired these guys. They pulled off some amazing stuff for me moving from Roseville to Reno. Their bid was a little higher than the lowest bid I got BUT they were efficient and almost everything that was moved came through in one piece. Very few issues at all considering we filled two 26 foot trucks with our stuff. I only had $200 in my wallet or I'd have tipped the guys even more than I did for their service. If I move from my house in Reno - I will call Ernie's in Reno to do the move. read more

Update: Spoke with Matt-SCARY DUDE! First asked me how I was doing and when I said not good I can't find my stuff and it's all scratched up he went off in a tirade! Now I know what OJ's wife must have felt like before he slit her throat! This Dude is SCARY ANGRY!!! You need to take an anger management course or three. Had a great experience with this moving company, they were on time and worked till the job was done.. Jordan & Doug were our movers, and they were friendly and pleasant to be around from packing everything all up to unloading it 3 hours away, They never hesitated when asking to move something and always offered to give us a hand moving boxes around.. I contacted Ernie's about moving our antique baby grand piano (over 100 years old) to the Bay Area. John was great on arranging the move - coordinating it another delivery in order to keep the cost reasonable. Communicating with him was so easy. The moving team, Josh, David, and James were fabulous. They took great care with the piano - in packing, driving, delivering, and assembling it at my sister's house.
