Parking is one of the main things that should be addressed for a large volume center. Whether you are part of the large workforce in the many hospitals or a patient visiting the clinic or ER, parking should be easy. Some of garages are designed badly (two way traffic in narrow lanes and lots of blind spots). It can routinely take more than 10 minutes just to park in a garage, on top of travel time in Houston. As part of the business, parking seems to be a large source of income. I have gone to several locations in TMC, and the cost of parking is $$. Some garages charge $5-10 for the first hour, but I never have been in and out within an hour. Most garages are $10-20 for an average, single appointment. If you have lots of appointments, just parking alone gets expensive quickly. In addition, public transportation in Houston is not a good option. While the cost of a bus ride is much more affordable, the time you need to spend looking up routes and the time spent waiting and getting the bus can be easily 2-3 hours, if you aren't already inside the inner loop of Houston. Since TMC is a large campus, you would think that there might a regular bus loop for the different parking garages and hospitals and other buildings. However, since there are several different, large healthcare groups, each of the groups only provides transportation services to their own group of buildings. Privileges for a student or staff for UT Houston and Baylor College of Medicine are completely separate.

Finally, I decided I had had enough, after losing 10 pounds in two weeks and missing three days at work I went to this clinic as the last resource last Monday. The staff was really nice. I'm sure they could tell from my face the level of despair I was in. Immediately, they put me on a wheel chair, offered me bottle water and proceeded to call the doctor. Next thing, they gave me an IV while waiting for the doctor. The doctor came and asked a couple of questions and immediately told me I did not have the stomach flu but an stomach infection. Got blood tested, prescribed medicine and within the hour they sent me home. Not to mention, the medicine was instant recovery, I was able to eat and finally after two weeks observed some colors on my face. $75 bucks with insurance though! The bad: Opens till 5:30 p.m. Closed on Sunday, hence the four stars and not five.

On the other hand, once I delivered and the epidural effect started to wear off, I was at the mercy of a nurse named Deb. She completely mistreated me. She wouldnt even give me her hand to get up and use the restroom. I asked her to please hand me my purse to take medicine (stool softener because I was really struggling to use the restroom, I was in PAIN) and she said : oh you could get it later. She could see that I am not able to walk or sit on the toilet and she would REFUSE to give me her hand. As I was struggling to use the restroom and crying, as I was living the worst moment of my entire life, she told me : "my mom pushed me at 9 lbs, I am sure she did tear as well." And she was saying this in like a chatty way, as if we were just talking.. while I literally was shaking. Then, she left me in the restroom and left the room. She came back 15min later to find me sobbing by myself in the room and she said : whats the matter? As if she doesn't know that I am in terrible pain and completely by myself. Later, my husband finally was able to come and help me and when she saw him trying to help me get back to the hospital bed as I was in terrible pain, she said : oh you guys are so cute!! i am going to cry!!! I genuinely think that she should not be in charge of taking care of new borns or freshly postpartum patients as she clearly lacks empathy and compassion. I will never ever forget how she treated me and I hope she will experience the same thing someday so she can see how it feels to be completely vulnerable and be rejected help from your nurse. Aside from this, the hospital staff was great!!

Before they would see my newborn daughter for a pretty important visit, they required payment. The payment was 50% more than what Texas Children's charges so I asked to be able to speak with our insurance and verify the charges/review the EOB. They refused and canceled her appointment while we were there in the waiting room. We had to scramble and schedule with THC ASAP because she needed to be seen for a weight concern. I asked to speak with the clinic manager about this but he refused to see me. I called later that day and asked to speak with him and I was told he would call me back the following day. He never did. It is unreasonable to charge a seemingly arbitrary amount of money which is much higher than other clinics and not allow the patient to verify the EOB at least one time. And then refuse to speak to me about it and cancel our appointment as we wait to speak to management. They should have allowed me to have my daughter seen as it was an important appointment and then allowed me to call insurance to verify before paying. Terrible customer service and treatment of patients. It was pretty appalling. And now they did not get paid for that appointment anyway and will not get our business in the future, so they were unreasonable for nothing.

I've never been treated so coldly by a doctor.

I rescheduled for a 5 time and was shocked to receive a call the night before at 6pm noting their lab tech would not be in attendance. I returned their call only to discover there is no way to cancel or leave a message over their automated phone system. The following week I receive a charge of $25 for not showing up. This doctor's office is one of the worst I've ever experienced.

First off, I went to MD Anderson with a recent cancer diagnosis. They were supposed to be my…read moreprimary doctors that would work hand in hand with my local cancer center. However they assigned me a team of oncologists who were NOT licensed for treatment of a patient from the state of Arkansas. They all thought that AR was Arizona and not Arkansas. I had already performed all the tests at my local oncologist like an MRI, PET scans, urinalysis, bone marrow biopsy, etc.... But they told me that it was their policy that I "had to" go through all of the same procedures in case they found anything wrong. I was 5 weeks into learning that I had blood cancer and had never been in a hospital before this experience. So they practically forced me to do everything again at a cost of over $3,000 after the insurance process. They then scheduled my follow up appointments with the doctor so we could determine my schedule for treatment. This was all scheduled in their app and was to be the first of many phone/video calls with my primary oncologist. The day came for my appointment and the doctor was 3 hours late to call me. My son had a basketball game that evening so we decided to drive there and hopefully the doctor would call me while we were on the road. He did call and asked me what I was doing so I told him I was driving to Tulsa OK for my son's game. He said that was way too far away from Arizona for a high school basketball game. I said it was just a 1.5 hours late trip from my house. He then said, no, you live in Arizona, you know ... AR. I said that I could be wrong but my 3rd grade American geography teacher told me AR was Arkansas. He said hold on.... Took 30 seconds to move around some paper on his desk, placed me on hold for another minute. Then he said that he didn't have a license to practice in Arkansas and he would have to cut the call short. I told him that my address never changed from the driver's license I gave them during the registration process and has always shown Arkansas. He laughed it off and said that he's not from America and he didn't take the same American geography class, but I should find another doctor as my primary oncologist because he would no longer be able to or willing to treat me. He then said that I should go to UAMS if I live in Arkansas... they have a cancer center up there. Fast-forward 3 months.... I disputed the bills with MD Anderson to no avail and they said it's not their problem to verify any information where a patient is coming from or who treats them. It's the patient's responsibility to know that from the beginning. It's ridiculous that their staff would expect a patient that is newly diagnosed with cancer to know that they would have to pull the licenses of every doctor that they are about to meet and work with to make sure that their license to be treating a patient from the state that they reside in. I also asked them where was the documentation that stated I needed to do this because they had plenty of documentation in the registration process that verified a whole lot of other items but nothing on being assigned a doctor that was licensed to treat the patient. Bottom line.... If you have a choice, please go to ANY other hospital and/or cancer center than this joke of a place. I'm my experience they only care about the money and immediately kicked me to the curb when they found out that I was not a steady paycheck for them and their industry. Just so you know, I never heard from the doctor again never got a card from them that said sorry we can't serve you or your needs. Just a bunch of bills that now I have to pay twice for because I had to do tests at the UAMS Center because they wouldn't even work with me to get all of my records in a timely manner. Yet they want to bill me for all of these tests that they didn't even use to help me fight my cancer. Again, all they're interested in is money and not the patient. I am now being treated at UAMS Little Rock and have had the most amazing experience that a person could have consider considering it's dealing with cancer treatment . The staff, the nurses the security the doctors are all amazing and I would never choose a different hospital. Please please please stay clear of MD Anderson, and go anywhere else.
