This practice seems to bite off more than it can chew. I've been a patience for about 3 years, since leaving home for university. Although I am a patient of Dr. Knafo, I've only spoken to her 3 of the minimum 9 times I had appointments. The other visits I was seen by two other female doctors. Now this isn't a big issue if you are going for smaller concerns like check ups and well woman exams but I had a continuous stomach issue that the lack of consistency in visits very negatively effected. I ran the same tests multiple times and explained the same symptoms/reactions to the doctors each visit and we ran in circles. I understand this is a family practice and not a specialist, but at some point it's up to the doctors to admit they don't know and refer me to someone else. It took a year of this before I broke down crying and begged for them to refer me. I would like to commend Dr. Knafo on what she is TRYING to do. When I did get to meet with her she was very caring and serious about my mental health. ( I have anxiety and depression ) Although, I believe this effected her judgement a little too much, I often felt like she wouldn't take my other physical health concerns seriously until I started taking medication as she strongly urged for me to start taking lexipro whenever I saw her. I've been doing well with my mental health, and would often express to her the reason behind my being so wound up and on the verge of tears in her office is because I was a 19 year old college student battling a mystery issue and running the same tests every visit. Making appointments is easy, everything else over the phone is hit or miss depending on if they feel like taking your call at that time. read more

Sooo the situation has changed a bit with Dr. Knafo and friends... Briefly, I went in again to check on something that had been detected during an exam for work purposes (at the company clinic). Though there weren't many (any) people there, it took quite a while to see NP Manning. She was just as pleasent and had me take a test to verify the work clinic diagnosis. She had to look up prescription conflicts on the internet and took quite a while to figure it out. She then prescribed some stuff and the issue was caput. She asked why I hadn't gotten the original blood work done that she had requested, and I said I thought I had got the important stuff again done through work. She said that they hadn't checked my thyroid and I needed to get that done ASAP. So I hop over to the QuestDiagnostic (in the same building conveniently) and get that taken care of. *Footnote: I may have mentioned in the last review that needles and I go together like Sandra and Jesse. I'm Sandra, the needles are Jesse: I get nauseous even thinking about it. I have communicated this to Manning. I get a call two days later: Issue 1: "Well, it turns out you didn't have what you thought you had so you're fine, but we need you to come back in and give us another test." Issue 2: "Well, you're fine, but it looks like you have a high amount of potassium in your blood. This can lead to heart problems, like a heart attack. So we need you to come back in and give another blood test. But actually I think the technician might have left the sample out and when that happens, potassium can increase and give a false reading. But we need you to come back in and give another sample, so when can you do that?" Heeeeell no bchz. So essentially I needed to run the goofy tests again even though nothing was wrong with me. I mean, yes I might be cautious if I were a 70 year old chunky monkey, but I was prescribing to the idea of getting a GP as a way of prevention/having a medical history with someone in case something does come up. Fortunately I realized I can say enough already! I'm not sure if I am going to return to Knafo's office. Maybe I need to parouse a few more options before I setttle. read more

I love Dr. Knafo. She has a great "beside manner' and is funny and smart. I'm pretty picky about who I let look after my health, and visited her only after vetting what felt like half the city. I really wanted a specialist in integrative medicine, but that can be hard to find in some cities. Mostly, I want someone who will prescribe whichever works the best in a particular situation- homeopathic or synthetic remedies. But I digress... if I can't find a high-quality integrative practitioner, I at least want someone who understands and approves of my use of a little homeopathy here and there. The last time I came in I had a bit of an unusually long wait (2 hours!), and by the time I was seen I was about to be late to a meeting. So I really had to leave in a panicky way, after seeing Dr. K just long enough to get some antibiotics for my (seemingly) annual sinus infection. This was unusual though- the office was mobbed that day, and someone had come in and had a catastrophic health event of some sort that the staff was rushing around trying to attend to. Normally my wait is less than 30 minutes. The minus one star is for some of the assistants. The quality in that regard is rather inconsistent, and one of them is rather incompetent and even rude. I dread running into her. When I was getting an EKG, she kept leaving my gown completely open with the door wide open, so that the entire universe got a bit of a show. There are some lovely nurse practitioners in here as well as Dr. Knafo though. I feel well taken care of here. Tip: Park in Hermann Park and walk over! Don't use the parking garage, which you'll have to pay for. read more

BEWARE! I made an appointment with Dr.Knafo but on arrival, form out of town, I was told that she was too busy to see me & that I would be seeing nurse Manning. I made the Doctors appointment & drove in because I wanted to talk to the Doctor about an upcoming surgery, not her nurse. When I informed them that the chart nurse Manning had in my exam room was not me, she got upset with me and proceeded to rush me along. They didn't want to send my EKG to my surgeon - just tore it off the machine & handed it to me. I asked about the about the interpretation and was told "we don't do that", but on my bill "EKG w/interpretation" CPT 93000 is clearly circled. Repeated calls to Dr. Knafo were never returned & it took me 6 months to receive my incomplete, patient file, which I paid to get. If I could give 0 stars, I would, as the whole visit was a waste of time. And it was not the first time the Dr. was too busy to keep our appointment. read more

I have been of patient of Houston Family Practice for about 15 years. Dr. Knafo is an awesome doctor. She is kind, funny, and intelligent, amongst other things. It is obvious that she genuinely loves her patients. She takes her time to understand what you are feeling. I never feel rushed. I have had the chance to see the other doctors in the practice, and they are a pleasure as well. The rest of the staff present professionalism and attentiveness. They do a great job of making me feel comfortable. I would definitely recommend anyone to Houston Family Practice. :) read more

This place was a mess, I made one appointment and never went back. The office staff was nice but super unorganized. It took forever for Dr. K to come in and when she did, she wouldn't stop talking. She blabbed about herself, the weather, you name it...I felt like I had to interrupt to remind her of why I came and to guide her focus back to me, the patient. I was not impressed. read more

My first impression was that this is a greedy practice. Signs everywhere saying "One issue per appointment." Geez, ok. I mean that's not normal, but whatever. Of course I had to wait, just like almost every doctor ever, but when Dr. Knafo came in she was warm and very friendly. It felt like she really cared about me, and she took the time to get to know me personally. All was well and good until I had an emergency and Dr. Knafo was booked. I was taken to NP Carol Manning. She was also pleasant, although it took AN HOUR AND A HALF to see her. As I'm dying. No big deal. She gave me some oxygen tank thingy and prescribed me some stuff, and told me to get an x-ray. Which I did. Like some of the other reviews on here state, they DO NOT want to give you results over the phone. But I got around it and had Dr. Knafo's assistant tell me as much as I needed to know. If they had made me come in for that, and pay another $100 or so, I would have been aggravated. Because another appointment was not necessary. In fact, the effort it would have taken to go in would have set me back from recovering. They want you to make an appointment for absolutely everything. Separate appointments. For even the smallest things such as prescription refills. I had a prescription that I needed refilled, so while I was with NP Manning I asked for them to refill it. They said ok, they'd "make a note," but then refused to refill it, even though i was AT THE DOCTOR when I asked for the refill. After my appointment, a lady from the front desk called and said they needed me to come in and take a blood test to get the refill (Why? i have been on the same prescription since i was 15 and I have never needed to make another appointment to refill it when i had other doctors. Never). I asked the lady on the phone why this was necessary, and she said "to check your liver." I said no, this prescription doesn't affect the liver. She asked me to hold while she asked a doctor about it. When she came back, she said that they needed a blood test. That was it. No explanation. I told her how dangerous it was for them not to refill the prescription, as I had been 5 days without it already and it could actually cause death if I missed ANY doses. She didn't care. She was exceedingly rude. I told her that usually, a doctor would refill it and ask me to come in later, due to the nature of the prescription. She said, "well, if you need to find another doctor, we understand." So I said "you've just lost Dr. Knafo a client." After hanging up, NP Manning called 3 times in a row and left a message. But this is the kind of business they run - get as many appointments out of someone as you can. I'm done. ***Tip: don't have rude staff*** read more

Without getting into details, Dr. Knafo may have saved my life. That alone wins her at least four stars, but the fact that she's nice, funny, and genuinely seems to care about you above and beyond the job makes her the ideal doctor to be a primary care physician. For only spending 15 - 30 minutes with me per year (annual checkups) she does an amazing job of remembering who you are. She's not afraid to tell it to you like it is, and is very good at making sure you understand everything and that all your questions are answered. Her staff are all very professional as well. After reading the reviews on yelp, I came about a year ago to get my annual check up with NP Carol Manning. As everyone mentioned she was very pleasant. As school is approaching again, I tried to schedule an annual exam with their PA (I forgot her name) for a Friday appointment at 1:15. I also work in a clinic, and was running late at work. After calling to try to reschedule, the front desk said that they closed at 4, and I said that was fine since I could come in at 2:30. She then told me that their last appointment was actually at 1:30 and put me on hold to ask the PA if she would still see me if I came at 2:30. I told her I was in grad school and could not come any other time because I am in class from 8-4 every day M-F. The receptionist later told me I had to reschedule for a later day and I told her I had to cancel it all together because that was my only day available. They didn't seem to have a problem with it.... 1. they obviously don't care about their patients 2. stop being so lazy and trying to leave 2 hours before you are supposed to close, just because it's Friday... DO YOUR JOB 3. I work in a clinic too and as long as the patient comes before we close, we still see them, because we actually care about our patients. 4. I couldn't have scheduled my appointment any day earlier because it's been exactly 1 yr since my last check up and my insurance wouldn't have covered it. read more

I have been a patient of Dr Knafo and the practice in general for 10years or so. It is a busy and efficient practice, convenient parking and relaxing waiting area. More importantly what has kept me there as a patient is the care and attention the PA, nurse and doctors have with patients (I never feel rushed). I believe a good doctor should be a good listener and Dr Knafo and staff fit the bill. In other practices I feel like a car going to the dealership where unnecessary exams are ordered just in case... In my experience, they only like doing simple procedures they can charge for without putting too much effort into it. I can go there for PAPs and getting my thyroid prescription filled (they do not offer any helpful or insightful information about thyroid issues, I tell them what my dosage is and they prescribe the same dosage). I was having hair loss and abnormal concentration of sebum on my scalp, the PA recommended Head and Shoulder's, which I tried for three months, and returned with the same issue, then she recommended some AVEDA shampoo. She never took a sample to test for fungal infection, or any tests for a hormonal imbalance, or see if may be due to thyroid issue, or anything else, she just recommend something I could pick up at the local Walgreens without diagnosis. The last time I was there, I got a skin tag procedure done in the office and they recommended I put on an ointment such as Neosporin to avoid infection. I did not know I was allergic to Neosporin, and had a terrible allergic reaction, and this was a few days before I left for a trip out of the country. They were closed over the weekend, so I called on Monday as I was traveling to Miami, and asked to speak to the doctor about treating this rash, I never got call back. I called several times to see they could prescribe something I could pick up in Miami to treat the rash before I traveled out of the country and they said that they couldn't do that (but neither the Doctor not the PA ever spoke to me directly, even though I requested advice on what to do). I even asked if I could send them some pictures of the rash, so they could advise, and never got a call back from the doctors or PA . I went to an emergency clinic, they gave a pack of steroids and the rash was gone in 2 days. I wished that my doctors, who performed the procedure would have at least called me back to offer some advice. Overall, I don't feel they care, and I do not trust them as doctors. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Knafos for over 15 years. I have recommended her to several family members including my father, cousins, 2 of my aunts and my husband. I have also been of a patient of NP Carol Manning. She & I go back even farther. I will always remember when I overheard Dr. K on the phone sticking up for me with a specialist. I probably would have been sent home if Dr. Knafo had not insisted that something was wrong because she knew me so well. And that I was a good patient. So she sent me for some tests that same day & I had to be hospitalized for a week. I had developed an infection from a procedure I had with that specialist. I even had to have surgery because the fever would not break. I also remember one of her doctors calling my father on a Saturday to inquire on how he was feeling. We had seen Dr. G. Loya the day before. I was impressed & touched because she was so sincere about his well being. I see Dr. K or Carol Manning every year for my well woman exam & for any health issues during the year. I have not ever had any problems with the office staff. At my last visit 2 weeks ago, I had a sinus issue, my wait time was 15 minutes, the entire visit took about 40 minutes by the time I was back to my car. I don't think that was bad. I'm not crazy about the parking though. I usually have to park in a lot for $5.00. read more

I simply love Dr. Knafo I call her my guardian Angel because she save my life when I thought I had a chest cold I was actually having several heart attacks she diagnose my condition perfectly. Great bed side manner sort of remind you of the doctors of old she is caring, very kind, very intelligent and not to mention funny. She takes time with her patients to under stand what they are going through I never feel like I am being rushed in and out. The Houston Family Practice is just what the name says a real family practice the other doctors are just as professional and caring. The Family Practice of Dr. Knafo is beyond amazing. As weird as it sounds, I love going to the doctor when it's time for my yearly check up or random sickness. Dr. Knafo is friendly, humorous, prompt and tells it like it is. She has great bedside manner and is always concerned for the well being of all her patients. After reading reviews on Houston Family Practice, I decided to give em' a try. Dr. Knafo was no available on the day I needed, so I set up an appointment with Ms. Graham. I had a really good experience. The wait was no longer than like 15 minutes, and that only because I did not bring the new patient forms filled out and ready. Ms. Graham was very easy to talk to and she took the time to answer all of my questions. I did not feel rushed and I felt like she actually had a genuine interest in my health. I would definitely recommend! The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because of the parking situation. read more

Over the years this practice has just become tiring. They make little effort to be accomodating. They don't want to discuss lab results over the phone. They always wants to see you even if you are the problem is familiar (sinus infection in allergy season). Once you get there you ALWAYS wait. The vibe you get is that that they just don't trust their patients. When you do seek to change, they go far as to charge the new physician for your medical records. Given what I know now, I'd be wary of starting up here. read more
