Sorry this is a long one, but the actors will appreciate this…read more
There's several things I've learned since moving to LA almost 2 years ago. I need cigarettes more than ever, good sleep is a rare luxury, and that headshot photographers are basically the same as the majority of hairdressers out here: they're usually bitter and out to make you look chopped AF. You know the feeling: they'll look you straight in the face with your haircut that makes you wanna cry as a grown ass man, charge you some bloated price and expect a huge tip too, and you just wanna get home so you can hide and cry for a couple weeks till things even out somewhat and you can go on with your weird life. It's usually an identical experience with the overabundance of amateur "photographers" roaming the streets looking to fund their OF addictions.
Istg, I'm BEYOND surprised, shocked even, that I found Marc. I don't think he even REALLY knows how valuable and badass he is as a headshot guy. Maybe he does. I would hope the later.
Yesterday I walked into his studio on LITERALLY an hour of sleep, hair not washed, a million things on my mind, knowing I had work later that day, so basically completely not in any sort of mental state to "give" anything for these headshots that my director really wanted from me,... basically I looked like crap and wasn't feeling myself either. The perfect client
The studio itself has lots of fun art on the walls and his setup is great. After we exchanged pleasantries and established a basic idea of what we were trying to achieve with our time, we jumped into shooting. The poor guy: I kept giving him NOTHING I really wasn't feeling myself like usual and was honestly just hoping I could make it back home in time to catch an hour of sleep before heading into work.
This guy is something else,ONG: clearly a genuine actor at heart. He caught every single instance when I gave false emotion throughout the entire process, and like a seasoned director or a well versed scene partner, was able to actually infuse some much needed energy into our session, all with the miniscule scraps of anything I was physically able to provide him. You know how crazy that is? I was literally not feeling myself AT ALL, I was just fronting honestly, and Marc wasn't just willing and able to make this whole thing work just to cash a check: I could FEEL that he was trying to make something GREAT out of nothing
A clear communicator with a ridiculously sharp eye, he pinpointed what was needed on my part to breathe life into our session. About halfway through, I started to see through my brain fog a bit, and thanks to his hyper involvement style, finally started to feel ENGAGED in the process. I got to see the shots at several stages throughout the process, and again, stayed consistently impressed that he was able to work in such a clear cut fashion.
If you're an actor, you have to understand how rare this is. THE GUY TAKES PRIDE in his craft!!! he genuinely wants his work to reflect his own undeniable talent, and is willing to wade through the mud(ME!), to get to the good stuff.
Sorry, I know this is long AF, I haven't even gotten the fully edited shots back yet, but even just looking through the raw pictures after our appointment, I'm in actual awe. I can actually look through the footage, and pinpoint where I was feeling myself and where I was falling flat
Maybe I'm also just a bit traumatized after dealing with SO MANY subpar, asinine photographers in my short time here LA, but this is worth mentioning. I've only had terrible luck with headshot guys so far, and somehow, on a chance, I ran into someone that could produce something AMAZING when I was at my worst, and I've only known photographers to have me at my best and most polished and attentive, while making me look terrible. There's so many hacks out here, and I actually found a professional.
This is long and kinda ranty, and I don't make a habit of kissing butt. Long story short, I looked through the previous reviews and I get what they were all trying to say: Marc's the real deal. If you want seriously good headshots by someone that knows wtf they're doing, hit this guy up!!! An insanely good experience, if I could give 10 stars on here, I would I found out a bit ago that I finally booked my first big movie and needed headshots that looked professional. I'm happy AF that I picked this place: I'll finally look like I know what I'm doing ONE HUNDRED PERCENT coming back for more headshots in the future. Thanks again Marc, I know the final edits are gonna be sick
